Chapter 4 ~Annabeth~

The first half of the day flew by. Finally lunch came, and along with it, the chance to see Luke again. I honestly think I'm going insane. This has never happened to me, and I never thought it could happen.

Scanning the school cafeteria, I spotted his sandy blonde head, and my heart began to gallop at 90 miles a minute. He looked up and spotted me staring at him. I blushed and looked away.

I saw Leo walking over to a table with a few other kids at it, and I was debating whether I should join them or not when someone tapped me on the shoulder.

"Annabeth, right?"

I spun around and found myself staring at two cold blue eyes. Oh gods. He was right there. I think I almost hyperventilated.

"Why don't you come sit with us? You seem like a cool person." He nodded his head in the direction of his friends.

I nodded my head in reply, not saying anything because I might squeal like a fan girl if I opened my mouth. Gods that would be embarrassing!

I felt Luke take my hand and lead me to his table. I looked at Leo's table once more, and almost did a double take. A boy with messy black hair and stunning sea green eyes staring at me. He looked familiar, but I couldn't place it. I felt Luke stop moving and I turned my attention back to him.

We had reached the table, and I took in the faces as Luke introduced me.

"Guys, this is Annabeth. She's just starting at this school, so I felt like helping her out and getting her acquainted with some of the other students." He sat down and I took a seat opposite him.

He looked at a girl with long black hair and big almond eyes next to him. She looked like she could be a model.

"This is Drew Tanaka, my girlfriend."

She batted her eyes at him, and smiled.

"Captain of the cheerleading squad." She pretended to fan herself, and a couple other girls started to tell her just how amazing she was at it. Sheesh, this girl was a serious air head!

Then Luke pointed at a couple sitting next to me. The girl looked like a Asian American model, but it wasn't super over the top like Drew. She was pretty in a simple way. Her long black hair flowed over her shoulders, complementing her fair skin. The guy sitting next to her looked the complete opposite. He had rich dark skin, and deep brown eyes, and a quiet, observant manner.

"This is Silena Beuregard and Charlie Beckendorf."

Silena looked at me and smiled. Charlie nodded but didn't say anything. I was fine with that. I was already uncomfortable as it is.

"This is Dylan. He's on the football team with me." Luke pointed at a blond guy next to me. The dude flashed a smile at me, and my first thought was that his smile was too bright.

"And last but certainly not least, Octavian." He gestured to a guy sitting next to him. Octavian looked, well, sickly. He had pale blond hair, and sleepy baby blue eyes. I didn't know exactly what to think of him.

I pulled a homemade turkey sandwich from my backpack, and smiled.

Have a good day! Love, Dad

My dad was special like that. He knew how hard it was for me to move, so he took it upon himself to try and make it easier for me.

"So Annabeth, what do you think of Goode High so far?" Drew looked at me lazily.

"I like it so far. The classes are good, and I think I'm going to do well academically here."

"Oh, that's good." Drew had obviously had enough of me, and focused her attention on Silena.

"Interesting answer. I don't think I've ever heard that answer before."

I blinked. Luke Castellan thought something I had said was interesting?

Charlie was up next to ask me something. "What are your interests?"

I thought for a sec before answering. "I really like reading and art."

Luke's eyebrows raised. "Art? That's really cool. I've always wanted to be a better artist, but I never had the opportunity."

"I can teach you." I felt my face grow hot. What had I just done? Gods I was such a fool sometimes!

"Really? You want to work with me?" Luke looked at me excitedly.

"Sure, why not?" What could go wrong? I mean, seriously.

"You want to do what?" Drew looked at Luke with surprise evident on her features.

Luke looked her in the eye. "I want to learn art. What's so bad about that?"

Drew scoffs. "It just seems like it would take away time for football and us." She looked at me with a look of pure disdain.

"It'll be fine, Drew. Honestly, it's almost like you're my second mom sometimes." Luke with a slight lift of his lip.

Drew flipped her hair. "Ugh, fine then. Come on girls. Let's go." She stood up and a couple other girls I didn't know (it seemed like Luke only introduced the "important" people) stood up and followed her.

Luke watched her go, then turned towards me. "Don't worry about her. She can get very overprotective sometimes. So, how about those art lessons?"

I couldn't believe he still wanted to do them. I pulled out my phone, and handed it to him. "Put in your contact info, and we'll get something together."

After a couple seconds, he handed my phone back to me. "I'll see you after school." He stood up and left. Dylan and Octavian followed him without a word to me. Charlie looked at Silena, whispered something in her ear, and walked away.

"What's your next class, Annabeth?"

"Uh, Art I think." I stood up and looked around the cafeteria.

"I can show you where the class is if you want." She shrugged.

"Sure, that would be great." I was grateful for any help navigating this organized insanity I could get. We grabbed our bags and left the cafeteria.
