Chapter 3 ~Annabeth~

I don't believe in love at first sight. But, I do believe that it can happen. And I'm pretty sure that's what happened to me. I half heartedly listened as Leo rambled on about the school, until he mentioned the art class that Goode offered. I immediately snapped back to reality.

"Where do I sign up?" I gave Leo my best intense stare.

Leo blinked and laughed. "Follow me, m'lady." He turned and led the way to the school office.

"Ladies first," he said with a mock bow.

I stepped in and was greeted with a wave of warm air that was laced with the smell of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. I walked up to the front desk, and an elderly woman with a mane of gray hair peered up at me.

"Hello, dearie. What can I do for you today?"

I cleared my throat before replying. I looked at the nameplate on the desk. Ms. Harris.

"Hi, I'm new here and I need to get my schedule and locker number."

Ms. Harris nodded and turned to a filing cabinet.

"What would your name be, dearie?" She peered at me with deep blue eyes.

"Annabeth. Annabeth Chase."

Me. Harris turned back to the filing cabinet and pulled out a couple pieces of paper. Turning back to the desk, she set the pages down and turned them towards me.

"Alright, dearie. Here's your schedule and your locker number and combination is on the bottom. And what elective would you like to take?"

I didn't hesitate with my answer. "Art. No doubt about it."

Ms. Harris smiled. "Art it is. You'll enjoy it."

She circled Art on my schedule and handed it to me.

Leo tapped my shoulder. "I'll help you get used to the geography of the school and help you make some new friends."

I swallowed hard. I couldn't escape it forever. Putting on my brave face I followed Leo out the door and into the foyer. Immediately we were surrounded by students filing in. I began to feel claustrophobic, and within seconds I was starting to have a panic attack.

I grabbed the shoulder of Leo's shirt as I started to pant. He looked back at me and his eyes grew to the size of saucers. Grabbing my hand he pulled me through the crowd and to the lockers. It took me about two minutes to calm down again.

"What was that?" Leo looked at me with pure concern on his impish face.

I took a deep breath before explaining. "I am very shy and claustrophobic. It's not easy for me to make friends, because I don't like to talk to people. So when we were engulfed in the crowd, I had a panic attack, which is somewhat common with me."

Leo nodded his head. "Well, you're the polar opposite of me. I love to be the center of attention, doesn't matter where we are or what we're doing." A massive grin lit up his face. I couldn't suppress the grin fighting its way out.

Just then the first bell rang. Leo looked around before meeting my eyes.

"Lemme see your schedule. I can probably lead you to your first class if you want."

I couldn't believe he was still willing to help me. I pulled my schedule out of my black JanSport, and handed it to Leo.

"No way!" He looked at me with surprise evident on his face.

"What?"

He grinned even bigger if that was possible. "We have the same schedule!"

At least something was going right today.

"Well? What are we waiting for? Let's go!"

Laughing the whole way to English 3, I couldn't help but feel like this was gonna be ok.
