The Boy In The Window pt.2
It had been a few days since I had learned about the boy in the window. I always caught myself staring at his house and thinking about what reason he could have to lock himself in all day and stalk the others. I was interested in him. He wasn't boring to say the least.
I wanted to talk about the situation all the time, however, everytime I brought him up all Amami and Momota would do is talk shit about him. They didn't have any other facts, just horrible theories.
"Why do you think about him all the time, Ouma. He's worthless." Momota said to me one day.
"Well... Maybe I should talk to him myself, then," I suggested.
"Why waste your time? It's more fun to come up with horror stories than to actually learn the truth. So why don't you just keep it at that?" Amami asked.
Usually I'm all for that, but I couldn't help but emphasize with his lonely and sorrowful face the few times I did see him pop out the window.
That's when I decided I just had to talk to him.
"Is it ok if I take a walk, mom?" I asked, "I need... Fresh air."
"I don't see why not," She smiled, "but since it's late, don't go far."
I nodded, put on a jacket, and left the house, making my way a few doors down.
I stopped at the warm grey house. I looked up at the window that belonged to the boy. I had a plan, but I didn't know if it would work. I scoured the grass to find something I could use, and I found a small pebble. This wouldn't cause any damage to the window.
Hopefully.
I threw it upwards, aiming for the window. I almost failed, but it just barely reached the bottom of the shutters, making a small thud.
I waited a bit, no answer. So I tried again, and again, until I must of tried about ten times. I thought that maybe I should leave him alone. I turned to walk away. Maybe Amami and Momota were right, maybe it was pointless.
However, I heard a small clicking sound, and the creak of old shutters opening.
I instantly turned back around to see a boy standing there in the window, a look of pure terror on his face. "What do you want from me?!" His voice level quiet while his tone sounded like he was shouting.
I stared up at him and looked at his features. He only popped out at night, and he was so far away that I never got a good look. However, now I could see his neat navy blue hair and hazel eyes.
"A-A-Are you here to tell me th-that I'm worthless? A-A creep?" He stuttered. He knew about the rumors, then.
I was taken aback at first, but I finally snapped back to reality, "Nope! Usually that's what I'm all about, but not today!" I smiled. He tilted his head in confusion, "Then what could you possibly want?" He asked.
"I wanna talk," I said.
"You wanna... What?" He asked.
I began to answer his question, "Talk. Y'know, more than one person verbally sh-"
"Yes, I know what talking is," He sighed, "but... Why?"
"You're interesting," I simply said.
The boy in the window thought for a while before looking back at me, "you're friends with the other two boys here, right?" He asked.
"Um... Yeah," I said.
"I don't trust you. So no," He said, grabbing the sides of his shutters to slam them shut.
"WAIT!" I called out.
He stopped and stared back at me, annoyed, "what?" The boy in the window asked.
"Can I at least get your name?" I asked.
"Shuichi Saihara," He said, before slamming his shutters closed.
Shuichi Saihara...
The next day, I told Momota and Amami about what I did.
"Did he sound like a total stoner? Or a demon?" Amami asked.
"No, he sounded normal," I answered.
"Did he say anything creepy? Like... Worshiping you for taking a fragment of your time to talk to him?" Momota asked.
I sighed, "on the contrary. He, quite rudely may I add, told me he didn't want to talk. All he gave me was his name."
"Booooo!" Kaito complained, "I wanted an interesting story."
Amami rolled his eyes, "well what's his name, then?"
"Shuichi Saihara," I answered.
"Nothing too out of the ordinary there either," Amami sighed.
"I'm going to go back tonight," I said.
"Seriously, man?" Momota asked, "it's obvious he's not gonna say anything to you."
"Well I'm not just going to give up," I said.
"Do what you want," Amami said, "just know, you're getting annoying."
I ignored what the two had told me, and went back later on in the day.
I continued what I had started yesterday. Throwing small rocks at the shutters until he answered.
I threw rock after rock, and my method worked again this time around.
The shutters creaked open, and Saihara showed his blue hair and hazel eyed face once more, "Y-You again?!" He shouted, nervously.
"You know it, Saihara-Chan," I called.
Saihara's eyes widened and his face flushed, "S-S-Saihara Ch-Chan?"
"Cute, don't you think?" I giggled.
Saihara rolled his eyes, "I th-thought I told you that I didn't want to t-talk," he stuttered.
I grinned, a mischievous grin. "I don't just give up so easily, Saihara-Chan!"
"S-Stop calling me that!" He shouted, messing with his fingers. I simply widened my grin.
Saihara lied his elbows on the window sill and cupped his cheeks in his palms, "I'll talk for today but that's all..."
