Forty Two: Zyat

Threw the vid above in because it makes me cry tears of laughter xD

I can say one thing for Wayne Manor; the beds are better than mine. The thought comes to me as I sit up, Jason turned away from me, asleep still.

Smiling, I spend a few minutes watching him. He looks genuinely adorable when he's sleeping. I brush my fingers through his hair, gently. It's something I've come to realise he likes.

He stirs a little. I lean over and kiss his cheek, before climbing out of bed. Levi gets up, running at my feet as I grab an outfit for work today.

I take a shower, trying to process the events yesterday. This is just like before; I'm being targeted and I'll have to be guarded. Only this time, instead of a stingy apartment on Crime Alley, I'll be in the most expensive house in this city.

Obviously there will be some guards placed carefully around the office throughout the day. I feel bad; they have to spend their time watching me.

Maybe I should sort out things today in order to work from here, so I want have to leave. That way I won't be an interference...

But then I'll be interfering here because I'll be here all the time.

Well shit.

I dry off in the bathroom and get dressed in long, black, skinny slacks and a red top. When I emerge from the bathroom, Jason is reading something on the bed.

"Hey," I smile, weary of how he might be, after yesterday. My worries are disregarded, however, when he jumps up and strides around the bed towards me.

"Hello," he says with a sharp grin, grabbing me by the waist and lifting me up. I give a little gasp, automatically tying my legs around him, hands on his shoulders.

"What's got into you?" I ask, as he practically spins me around. I smile at him as his expression goes from excited, to concerned.

"It was shit of me, not following you to bed last night," he finally says. I realise that guilt has got him down. I sigh heavily, grabbing his face gently and pulling him in for a kiss.

He gives a cute, pleasured little sound as I gently dag my nails against his scalp.

"I know that's how you deal with things. Now, anyways," I smile softly, kissing his forehead. He sighs, sounding relived as if he were worried I'd be mad. "You know what else I've noticed?"

He blinks, confused. From those pretty emerald eyes of his to those soft lips I will never get over how utterly intoxicating his entire being is.

"This." I run my fingers through his hair again, long nails digging into scalp. His eyes flash like the devils for a moment, before he's turning around, placing me on the bed to loom over me. I grin, "And people say I'm a sadist."

It takes a few attempts to finally get free of Jason. I kiss him goodbye and keep a smile as I finish getting ready, black jacket and heels.

There is worry in his eyes.

Kissing him goodbye, I walk out of the room and down around three halls, before I'm descending the main steps.

"Venus."

Crap.

There are few people on this Earth who can instil fear in my system. Bruce Wayne is one of them. I turn around to face him, walking down the stairs.

"Alfred will drive you to work. At the front of your building, two private security guards will be waiting for you. They'll escort you in and stay near your office the whole day," he explains as we reach the entrance.

"Private, huh? How private?" I ask. I have a right to know who is protecting.

Bruce spends a few pointless seconds staring at me, before answering.

"Heroes in glamour charms. They're young; members of the League's junior Team, but they'll protect you until the end. Is this sufficient?"

I don't judge based on age. Hell; I'd be terrified to face Dami in a fight and he's a baby. I nod enthusiastically, thanking him.

"There will be others staged externally to protect you."

"Miss Meadow, would you like breakfast?" Alfred appears in the hallways leading to the kitchen. I smile at him.

"Thank you Alfred, but my assistant always has my breakfast for me. Thank you, though," I say. I feel bad just for saying no to that lovely man.

"I shall bring the car around then," he replies, before turning around to leave. I tie up my jacket as Bruce opens the door for me.

I walk out into the cool, January air. Snow dusts the grass, softly. The surrounding green of Wayne Manor is a beautiful sight so early in the morning. It glistening with the frozen ice.

"Venus," Bruce says again. He makes me assume my doom is on the way.

He steps out, closing the door behind him. I readjust my bag when I face him.

"I can tell by your attitude towards this that you feel...unnecessary. Like you're not worth the protection. But what you've done for the city, as well as your ability to read someone is a gift that any hero on this planet will die to protect. You do understand that... right?"

Die to protect.

"I don't want anyone to die for me," I involuntarily whisper. Bruce looks surprised at the response. I take a deep breathe to scramble my thoughts back together. "I mean I understand I've done better than my predecessors, but anyone would feel overprivileged with what you're doing for me. I mean you invited me into your home, as well as my sister. You've organised protection and considered my colleagues... I don't know how to thank you for that Bruce. That's the issue," I explain.

Bruce looks at the snow covered ground for a moment, before glancing up at me, smiling.

"My primary concern is my family," he begins. Suddenly, he reaches out, placing a hand on my shoulder. He looks at the manor briefly. "And the way you make him feel... the way you brought this light into the darkness he surrounded himself with... It's made you a member of this family whether you like it or not," he tells me, smirking.

What's a girl say to that?

Alfred pulls up behind me. Bruce reaches out and opens the door.

"You're visiting Arkham today?" He asks. I nod. Kalie must have sent him my schedule.

"Take those guards with you."

"Will do."

Levi and Kira bark in their high-pitched squeaks as they roll and tumble along the grass, trying to get their mouths around the ball Jason had thrown across the yard.

Kira gets it first, running back to him and dropping it, panting excitedly. Levi follows his sister, nipping at her playfully.

Jason tosses the slobber covered ball in the other direction. Both puppies run for it, before Damian's great dane hybrid Titus comes sprinting out of the house towards the bowl as well.

"Titus! Get back here!" Damian shouts, running out of the house. Titus skids to a stop metres away from the two little pups.

"Not kidding. I'll shoot it if he hurts them!" He yells, half joking. Damian gives his best glare before striding off with Titus at his heels.

As Levi returns the ball, Jason's monitor beeps from inside his jacket. He takes it out, reviewing the alert that someone has broken into Venus' apartment.

Slipping his monitor away, he approaches the house. Striding into the living room with little puppies bouncing at his feet, he finds Caelan and Tim in the dining room, discussing some book series.

"My favourite character was always Ghastly," Tim says, leaning on his elbow to look at Caelan. She grins back.

"Mine was Tannith! How weird is that?" She replies, laughing.

"If your favourite character's Tannith why didn't you choose that name to be your own?" He asks. She shrugs lightly.

"Caelan was such a cool guy. Like, he had layers man. I just love the name any-"

"Hey, lovebirds!" Jason finally interrupts. Their attention snaps to him, at the doorway. "Someone just broke into Ven's apartment. I'm checking it out, low key. Watch these two," he explains quickly.

"You don't want help?" Tim shouts as his brother strides away.

"Don't need it!"

He felt exposed, being Jason Todd when dealing with something as sensitive as security.

But if it really is the League of Assassins after Venus, there was no point in wearing a mask.

No one made any attempt at preventing someone else from entering the apartment. Jason thought it bizarre they were not worried about being caught.

Weary, he presses the button for Venus' floor. As the elevator begins rising, he places his hand on the gun in his belt.

3...4...5...

As soon as the door dings and slides open, Jason finds himself looking at a large, calm looking man with a long coat, hat and gloves; all black.

He looks at Jason with a small smile and immediately, he recognises him. Or, his features, rather. Eyes the colour of ice, or a summer sky.

"Zyat!" The man says. Somewhere in Jason's mind he realises he has just been called Son in Law.

"W-Who are you?" He says, afraid of the answer. His eyes dart to the photo fram on Venus' counter, by the phone. In it she is eighteen, the man standing in front of Jason in the photo beside her.

"Forgive me. My name is Anton Salvore. I am Venus' father," the man- Anton -says, his voice soft but excited, thick with a Russian accent. "You are Jason, yes?" He grins.

Jason takes a quick, deep breath to relax himself, before allowing a small smile to appear in his features.

"Yes...sir. Jason Todd," he replies nervously. Jason holds his hand out politely. Anton looks at the offered hand, to the younger mans face, before chuckling heartily and striding forward, arms wide.

There is not time for the second Robin to react as his girlfriend's father wraps him in a bear hug.

"You date Russian girl you greet Russian way!" He says enthusiastically, pulling away. Flustered, Jason lets out an uneasy laugh and wiping his nervous palms on his pants.

"I-I didn't expect to meet you under these circumstances. I'm sorry," he says, shoving his hands in his pockets. Anton waves him off.

"Please please. I did this on purpose- Wanted to know who is protecting my dochka! I see you have quite the security set up for her apartment," the Russian observes, looking around the living room.

"Well, being the DA she has protection from-"

"Your father, yes. And you I suppose. Support everywhere," he says dismissively.

The words confuse Jason. It almost sounded like-

"You think Caelan and Venus' abilities are of their own or their mother's? Bah! It was me they received their foretelling abilities from! Venus with her ability to pick up detail like no other and Caelan being able to see a thought with a touch. Such powers are rare. Such powers, I have. Such powers, I use on the Bat when he visit my city. Russians are smart, no?"

Jason felt as if he should be angry. But something about Anton- his smile, his indifference to the masks his daughter's new family wore. Then again, that made sense.

"This is why I say to myself; This boy will be good for her. They are the same," he grins. His smile makes Jason smile. Oddly, this man made him think of Santa.

If Santa was a badass Russian mob boss with guns beneath his jacket and the most beautiful daughter on the planet.

"You are the same, no?" Anton repeats. Jason blinks for a few seconds, filling the silence, before nodding.

And he thanks whatever God there is when his phone rings. He takes it from his back pocket and answers.

"Kalie? What's wrong, Ven oka-"

"No!" Her voice came out in panic. "No, Jay- She left with those guards three hours ago for Arkham! When she didn't come back I called they asylum and they said she never even got there! I've called the Commissioner already!"

And Jason was out the door with Anton before the phone call ended.
