Part 2
Water dripped from my visor as I stood frozen; shocked and confused at the events that had just transpired. The laughter around me was what actually shook me out of it. Customers, co-workers, and my boss had all stopped what they were doing, and were staring at me with a mixture of concern and humour.
"Are you okay?" one of customers asked and I nodded, wiping my glasses off before starting to prep two fresh smoothies.
"Yeah, I'll be fine."
After finishing the two smoothies—successfully this time—I stayed a while longer to help clean up the mess I made, and when I was finally done, felt relieved as I clocked out and headed down to the break room to change out of the smoothie-covered attire.
"Oh, hey," I said, seeing Malik hanging out in the break room, "I thought you'd be gone already."
He shook his head as I tied my hair up in a bun, trying to hide what a mess it was until I got home. "I figured I'd stay here and watch the rest of the game," he replied, nodding to the television, where the game was now tight going into the last quarter. "You heading out?"
"I have to catch the bus in a few minutes, but maybe I'll be able to catch the last few minutes of the game at home."
"If you want to stay, I can drive you home once the game's over," he offered. "After all, don't you want to see our team come back and win."
I did. I really did.
"You sure?"
Malik nodded. "Yeah, you're not that far out of my way. Plus, it'll be better watching this game with someone who loves this team as much as I do."
"Then yeah, sure," I said. "Thanks."
Smiling as I took a seat beside him, he replied, "What are friends for?"
