Maybe we've been a little too guarded
From things that have hurt us
A bit more than we thought

Jungkook dwindled on the way to the front door, cursing himself for forgetting that they had basketball planned for that day.

But as soon as he opened the door, countless large figures spilled past him without letting him get a word in.

"Jungkook, I brought lunch for us, so I'm popping it in the fridge."

"Jungkook, Jimin didn't let me use the bathroom before we left, so I'm using yours!"

"Jungkook, do you have anything to eat? I forgot—"

He hadn't had any energy to stop them from rushing past and so was still shutting the front door when he heard the pause in Yoongi's words.

"Uh, hello," a lower voice he recognised to be Namjoon let out quickly. "I'm so sorry; we didn't realise he had company."

"No, uhm," Jungkook heard you fumbling as he paced into the living room.

"Guys, I completely forgot that we had a game planned today," he said, "I'm so sorry, can I sit out this time?"

"For her?" the disgust in Hoseok's voice made Jungkook roll his eyes as he silently asked him why he didn't just hold up a giant neon sign telling you that he didn't like you.

"I can go, uhm, wait—"

"I'm so sorry," Jungkook directed his words to you, "Would it be alright if you could just give us five minutes?"

You were quick to nod, rushing into his bedroom straight away. Before Jungkook could preface anything he was about to say, the glare Hoseok had pointed at the door you'd just closed built a lot more tension than he would have wanted.

"What is she doing here?" he hissed, and the rest of the boys exchanged glances, clearly confused by his outrage.

"Hyung, please calm down. I don't really know—"

"Wait," Yoongi interrupted, stepping forward and placing a hand on Jungkook's shoulder. "Is this who we think it is?" While only Hoseok knew what you looked like, they all knew what you did to him.

Jungkook knew they would not leave his place without giving you a piece of their mind. You'd not only screwed him over, he had realised. You'd screwed their friend over. You'd screwed them over.

"Yes, but—"

"That's her?" Taehyung interjected, "The one who messed you up so bad that you can't walk past our university without trembling, or down Princes Street without tearing up. That's her?"

Ah. He'd forgotten about that.

"Hyung, she's—"

"You didn't answer me; why is she here?"

"It's such a long story," he let out an exasperated sigh, "I know you don't approve, hyung, but there was really nothing—"

"Don't approve?" Hoseok scoffed, pacing to the front door, "You know this is a lot more than don't approve."

"Hyung," this time, Jimin was striding over to console Hoseok, "Hyung, stop."

"Does she know what she did to you?" he asked again, and Jungkook realised he'd raised his voice to make sure you heard. "Does she know that she pulled you apart, down to the smallest pieces, and left us to pick up the pieces?"

And as soon as his words registered in his mind, Jungkook felt something prick the back of his eyes. An intense throbbing started to build up in his stomach, too, and he felt it stream to his fingertips.

"Are you trying to tell me that I'm broken?" The bile rose to his throat, and he couldn't stop himself from spitting out his following few words, "Well, sorry that I've been such an inconvenience. Hauling my broken ass everywhere with you. Don't worry; I got the message. I won't do it anymore. You can leave."

"Maybe I failed as a friend," Hoseok muttered as he opened the door, "Maybe I failed to help you learn how to respect yourself enough to not let this woman back into your house—into your life."

By now, Namjoon had picked up all the members' belongings that they had thrown all over his living room when they walked in and joined him in the foyer.

"I'm disappointed in you, Jungkook. You know I'll be here when she uses you and completely disregards your own feelings, and you need to come back. I just wish you didn't have to go through it again in the first place."

And with that, Hoseok disappeared behind the front door, Jimin waving an apologetic, quick goodbye as he followed to make sure he was okay.

"Text us when she's gone, Jungkook. We'll be back, and we'll bring him. I hope you're not too upset; you know that he's just trying to look out for you."

Jungkook nodded, the tears welling in his eyes, making it difficult for him to lift his gaze.

"We'll be off then, buddy," Seokjin clapped his shoulder, "See you later."

Before he knew it, the room was silent again. All his friends had filed out of the door, leaving him alone. Alone as he thought about you in the next room.

Sighing, he bit his lip as he tried to will back the tears threatening to fall from his eyes. He hated that Hoseok always said the right things.

You did use him, constantly leaving him after having your way. And he would never allow himself to stop the cycle.

"Jungkook?"

There you were, standing in the doorway of his bedroom. Beautiful form, beautiful skin, beautiful voice pulling him out of his thoughts as they always did.

"I'm going to get out of your hair, Jungkook. I'm sorry for being-" you'd started to make your way to your duffel bag in his room, but he bet you to it, grabbing your arm.

"No," he shook his head, "I'm sorry if you heard what they were saying. I'm not letting you leave when you have nowhere to go. We can figure all that out first and then go on about our lives."

He wasn't making eye contact with you. Heck, he couldn't look up at your shoulders. How was it that you'd crumbled every part of him, but his words and actions would continue to betray him?

"But Jungkook, I can't always be having you help me. Your friends are right."

That made him pause, gaze finally rising to look at you. Your friends are right.

His friends hadn't said that you couldn't constantly be receiving help from him. His friends had said that you didn't deserve his help; you didn't deserve anything after breaking him like you did.

And you'd said that they were right.

But before Jungkook could even open his mouth to throw another rebuttal at you, a roaring thump rattled through the room and both your eyes flashed with surprise before whipping to the window.

The resilient storm that had persisted over the past few days was starting to get a bit louder, the grey mist clouding the sky beginning to turn devilishly black, the image irking Jungkook a little.

It didn't look normal.

Suddenly remembering the announcement on the news before, he pulled out his phone in a rush and opened the first news app he found on his home screen.

Massive weather warnings all across the country. Please steer clear of any coastal areas.

Crowds flocking to supermarkets after hearing of expected bizarre weather forecasts.

Stay inside, do not panic, raging storms expected to continue.

His heart had already been over-pumping itself reading the first few headlines, but one at the bottom of the page got his full attention.

Scientists have revealed four comets on track to hit our planet.

"Jungkook?" your voice got louder and louder, and he finally met your gaze. "Is everything alright? Why are you... why are you shaking?"

"The world's..." he hiccuped as he looked back down at his phone and read the article's first few lines one more time, before looking to you again, "The world's ending."
