"This is sort of excited, isn't it?" Nico said quietly, spinning the stick. "You know, the whole group relying on us three to make these fires?"

Ty shrugged, not paying attention to the brunette.

"Finally, they actually let us do something! Doesn't it make you feel good, Ty?"

They shrugged once more.

"I mean-"

"Hey, kid, less yapping more twirling." Naya rolled her eyes, and went right back to making the fire. Nico scoffed, but ended up agreeing. Naya's stick caught fire, and set it into the pile. Shortly after, Ty's ignited as well, and they put it into the sticks as well. Nico decided that they had enough and threw his into it too, and the three stepped back at they watched the small flame shoot up into a large blaze. Nico stood in awe for a second before Naya grabbed his wrist and pulled him along with her as they ran away from the inferno.

"And that," Naya started, "is how you start a fire."

Ty smirked proudly. Nico's grin spread across his whole face, clenching his fists in excitement as he jogged. "That was... that was awesome! I did it!"

"Well technically you didn't do it," Naya said. Ty nudged her.

"Let him keep his excitement," They whispered. Naya rolled her eyes.

Suddenly, Nico ran ahead of the two, his arms outstretched. "You hear that?" He shouted gleefully. "We've done it! We just saved your butts! We're not useless!"

Ty bit their lip. Nico was being way too loud. As Nico continued to yell in excitement, Naya turned to Ty. "Aren't you gonna tell your little friend to shut the fuck up before it hears us?" she whispered. Ty rolled their eyes. She was right.

"Come on, Nico, I think they know." Who 'they' was was a mystery to Ty.

"Wait just a second," Nico said. He came to a halt, tilting his head to the sky.

"WE'RE GOING TO GET YOU, YOU FUCKING MONSTERS!"

Ty's jaw dropped. Nico...

"You just... cursed." Nico turned to Ty, smirking. "I have never heard you curse. At least... not like that."

"Well, I guess people change," Nico said smugly. Naya started to clap.

"You tell 'em, kid!" She said with a large smile. Nico bowed, then turned back around.

"Let's finish this job."

Nobody was keeping track of how long they were there anymore. It didn't even really matter, in full honesty. The only thing that Marisa knew was that it was possibly nine in the morning, since the sun was fully out, which sparked the realization that, not long ago, she had almost gotten killed by falling rocks.

"Are you guys already done?" she asked.

"Well, duh," Naya said, sitting down against a tree. "How many fires did you think we were going to make?"

"Maybe more to take a little longer than..." Marisa trailed off, biting on her tongue. "However long you took," she finished.

"Marisa, trust us," Nico started, sitting up from his sister's shoulder. "We knew what we were doing."

"Well someone's more confident than usual."

Nico did nothing besides smile giddily, Sparna grabbing him and pulling him closer to her. He let out a chuckle, wrapping his arm around her neck.

Ty pulled their legs closer to their stomach, showing a small smile. Eira leaned up against a tree near Naya, taking occasional glances at her. No matter how much closer the group as a whole was getting, she still barely knew Naya.

Talon rested her head on Orion's shoulder. She hadn't gotten full use of her legs back (which wasn't likely in the future) but Orion did find some sturdy sticks for a splint and cane. He then trained her to use them better, and they were definitely making progress. However, she was going to really need a physical therapist when they got back.

Yes. When.

Zeke, Dylan, and Lany still weren't back yet, but no one was really worried. They didn't expect them to be. The fire group was early, anyways.

After a little time of awkward small talk, two more people joined the group, one of them on the short side with a limp and the other taller with only three fingers.

"Where have you two been?" Marisa asked.

"We... got lost," Jayed said, biting his lip. Hedi nodded quickly.

"That's code for 'we were making out'," Naya said.

"Why the hell would you say that?" Hedi snapped, offended. Naya's eyes motioned downwards, and it was only then that Jayed and Hedi realized that they were still holding hands. The two boys let go immediately, both of them looking away from each other, faces red as a tomato.

Ty snorted. "Smooth. Real smooth."

"Shut up," Hedi snapped, taking a seat crossed legged near Jayed, yet far enough so that it wasn't awkward.

The teens sat in silence, the only noise being the quiet early-morning wind. They were each in their own head, each with their own thoughts.

Then...

"Wise men say..."

All of the kids looked at Eira. The singer of the soft, hoarse lyric stared at everyone else, her hands folded together in her lap.

Jayed hesitated before opening his mouth.

"Only fools rush in..."

Hedi looked at him, a small glimmer in his eye. Jayed slowly lifted his head up to meet his.

"But I can't help falling in love with you." It was Sparna singing now, both Talon and Nico staring lovingly at her.

Slowly, one by one, more people joined. "Oh shall I say, would it be a sin..."

"Oh if I can't help falling in love with you."

Everyone had come back by then. They were eating the cooked meat (even though it was morning) and Zeke, Lany, and Dylan even ended up finding some fruits to eat.

"To our amazing teamwork!" Zeke said, raising a mango in celebration. The other twelve followed suit, saying cheers before feeling open their fruit and taking a bite.

"You know, " Dylan started, resting his arm on his knee. "we might just make it."

"Way to be optimistic," Marisa said sarcastically. Dylan shrugged, and surprisingly, Marisa grinned a tiny bit.

But seriously, we kick ass, Orion signed.

"Yeah. Who knew a bunch of kids could defeat a fucking monster?" Hedi said proudly.

"William Golding," Talon joked. Half of the students stared at her in confusion.

Nico, one of the only people to get the joke, rolled his eyes. "You weirdo." Sparna tapped him on the shoulder to let him know she was going to the bathroom, and he got the hint and stopped leaning on her.

"Hey! If we survive, maybe we'll become famous!" Dylan said suddenly.

"Fame? That's your biggest concern?" Naya asked, shocked.

"Think about it. Interviews! Donations! Cash!"

"You need to sort out your priorities, Dylan," Ty said, taking a bite of his fruit.

"Okay, that's messed up, even for you," Hedi said. "We've had enough sadness. Let's lighten up the mood. Anyone have any good stories?"

Talon raised her hand excitedly. "Ooh, I've got a great one! It's hilarious!"

"Ooh yes! Spill! Spill!" Marisa exclaimed, leaning closer to the girl. Orion sat up excitedly.

"Okay. So it starts off with Kari..." She trailed off, not wanting to make herself sad again. "It started off with Sparna coming to my house, and-"

Talon stopped.

"Where is Sparna?" she asked Nico.

"She left to use the bathroom," he answered.

"Alone?" Talon asked nervously.

Nico scoffed. "Gosh dang it, what is it with girls always wanting to pee in pairs?"

"That's not what she means, Nico," Zeke said, a nervous tone arising in his voice. "Someone always needs to come to make sure they don't get lost or hurt."

"Sparna will be fine," Nico said, not the least bit worried. "She's strong. She can handle herself."

"Nico! This is serious!" Talon said angrily. Once Nico realized how worried everyone was, he bit his lip guiltily.

Lany and Eira suddenly stood up, facing their anxiety-ridden friends. People were arguing about whether to leave or stay, while some were just staying out of the picture. All in all, it was chaos.

"Everybody relax!" Dylan yelled. Everyone went quiet. "She's just taking a shit! What else would she possibly do?"

***

"Dear World," she started, her shaky hands struggling to stay at her side. Was she really doing this?

Yes. It was the only way.

She continued.

"I didn't want this to be the way I was going to go. But it is. I don't think I can live like this anymore. Every minute could possibly be my last and I since I'm going to die here anyways I might as well pick when." She started to hyperventilate, and she desperately begged herself to stop, but every part of her body was going crazy.

The cliff was so far down...

She kept going.

"Everyone here hates me, even if they don't say it. I'm annoying, bossy, and a bitch that only makes things worse. They'll be better off without me." She sniffed, struggling to speak after that.

"The only thing that I possibly need to live for is Nico. I used to think he was just a tiny, helpless little boy, but now I realize how capable he is on his own. I know he'll be fine." That's when she actually started to cry, failing to keep her tears inside of her.

"I killed Karimah Leya. I killed William. I killed Liam. And now, I need to pay."

She took a step forward so that another slight movement would mean tumbling down into darkness.

Her heart beat out of her chest, and she was unable to calm it down. Her body was trembling so much that she was about to fall because of it. Her face was stained with the water that seeped from her eyes, making everything blurry.

"You know what? None of what I'm saying matters. It's not like anyone is hearing this."

"Sparna?"

The voice was distant, but it seemed to be getting closer. Sparna panicked. It was now or never. "Goodbye," she whispered shakily.

"Sparna! What are you doing?!"

The last thing she saw was the infinite darkness as she tumbled down into oblivion, a constant ringing the only sound she heard.
