*CHAPTER SEVENTEEN*

It had been four hours and fifty-three minutes since they had arrived at that cave. Not that William had been counting every second; he had just started counting recently, but the level of annoyance and boredom in people gave him a rather good estimate. After one hour, people don't really notice a difference, if they're with people. After two hours, people start to be a little bored, but still find ways to entertain themselves. After three, they will make sure that they have something to preoccupy themselves to prevent the boredom that is overcoming them. After four, they might start to try to sleep to get through it. After five, people needed to get out and move.

They were all so close to the fifth hour, and that was something that was way too dangerous that William was going to make sure wouldn't happen.

"We can't just sit here and do nothing," He said to Marisa. "What if a helicopter comes and can't spot us?"

"We need to wait until the monsters forget about us. Then we can leave," She responded, not sounding bothered at all.

"That makes no sense! What if there is a helicopter flying right above us right now and there won't be another one for fifteen years? We'll all be dead!"

"I bet people are coming right now, searching for the plane that crashed. Plus, if they do fly above us, they'll probably see the debris and figure there are people on the island."

"Stop being so positive, Marisa, we need to get the hell out of here!"

"William, you do realize-"

Before she could finish, she was cut off by someone clearing their throat. William and Marisa looked at the source, which was Sparna, and Liam, who was standing next to her. "Can I talk to you guys?"

"About what?" William asked them. Liam shrugged.

"Don't ask me, I don't know."

Marisa and William looked at each other before Marisa shrugged. "Sure, I guess."

The two stood up, following Sparna to the back of the cave. Sparna looked around, as to see if anyone was there, which they obviously weren't. Then, she pulled their closer, voice quieter than a whisper. "This is stupid, sitting here while we're all starving and sick. Jayed and his group aren't even back yet and for all we know they could be dead."

William raised his eyebrows. He wasn't used to Sparna talking so negative, and by Liam's reaction, neither was he.

"So what are we supposed to do? Did you forget that there are monsters out there?" Liam asked.

"But we can't starve!" Sparna protested, trying to keep her voice to a whisper.

William looked at Marisa, who was biting her lip. "I am really hungry."

"More than hungry, Marisa! The cause of our death will be from starvation if we keep sitting here like prisoners! Sure, we need water, but we've already had some. We need food much more at this point."

Sparna looked at William, as if asking for his opinion. To be honest, he was torn. He needed more time to think. "Why us, Sparna?"

"Well, for starters, you're easily the strongest, which will come in handy if we need to kill something. Marisa is a great leader and very brave, and I would be stupid not to bring her." Marisa smiled when she said that, blushing a little. "And Liam's willing to do anything to help people, including doing some crazy task or risking his life."

Liam nodded. "That's true."

"Plus, I trust you guys to help me get the job done. I know you all want what's best for everyone, even if it's dangerous."

William couldn't back out now. They would think he was too scared. "Alright, Sparna. I'm in."

Sparna smiled. "Great." She looked at Marisa and Liam. "How about you two?"

Marisa pursed her lips. William could tell she was torn, one hand taking into account what Sparna said and the other considering the risk. But when Liam spoke up in agreement, he knew she couldn't be the only one that backed out.

"Okay, should we go tell them?" Liam asked. He started to walk away, but Sparna grabbed his wrist.

"No! You can't!"

"And why not?" William asked.

"They might force us to stay. Or, even worse, they'll tag along and we won't be able to stop them and they'll end up hurting themselves."

Liam sighed. "Then how are we supposed to get out, Sparna?" Marisa asked. "I think they'll notice if we push a rock aside and climb through it."

"Don't worry, I have that figured out. I just need to make sure you guys are committed before I tell you."

William and Liam agreed right away, but Marisa was hesitant. After all three of them stared at her, she cracked. "Okay, fine. I'm committed."

Sparna smiled.

"But," Marisa continued. William caught Liam rolling his eyes for a split second. "We need to tell someone. In case we've been gone too long or people start to really worry. They'll know we're in danger and they'll send help."

After a moment of silence, Sparna nodded. "That's... a good idea, Marisa," Liam said.

"But who?" William asked. "They need to be trustworthy so our whole plan isn't ruined."

Marisa smirked. "I know the perfect person."

William's eyes widened. "You better not be talking about your boyfriend."

"Zeke is not my-"

"Doesn't matter. Don't you know how close he is to Orion?"

"Zeke wouldn't tell anybody if he knew how important it was. Also, if he told Orion, how would Orion tell anybody else? I mean, no offense to him or anything, but I don't think anyone would understand what he was saying anyways."

"I just don't know if we can fully trust him-"

"Who else would we tell? There's no way Sparna would tell Nico, and we're not that close to anyone else here."

William sighed. She did have a point. "Okay, fine. Tell him. But make sure he knows that he can only tell the group if we take too long or if people start getting really worried."

"Of course." William saw a little smile on her face, which she knew she was trying to hide. He knew she was excited to tell him. She was terrible at suppressing it.

Marisa walked over to the main part of the cave, going to the area where Orion, Talon and Zeke were talking. William noticed how skilled Talon was getting in sign lanuage, which made him worry that if Orion knew, he would tell Talon and the word would get out. But he pushed that aside because he couldn't stand to think about it.

Marisa whispered something to Zeke, grabbing his hand and pulling him up before he was ready. Zeke smirked at Orion, who smiled a smile back at him, but right after Zeke stopped looking at him his smile faded, Talon putting her hand on his leg. Confused, William looked away and joined the group.

"Okay, so what is this about?" Zeke asked. "Is everything alright?"

"Yeah, we just need to talk to you about something," Marisa said, and then she started explaining how they were going to go hunting and how if they took too long Zeke would have to tell everybody about where they were or if people started to get very worried.

Zeke's eyes were wide through the whole thing. "Why are you only telling me?"

"We don't want everyone to freak and keep us from going or head out themselves."

"Can you do something for me?" Sparna almost interrupted, looking at Zeke.

He nodded. "Yeah, I guess."

"Make sure Nico stays with Ty. I don't want him to notice I'm gone." William noticed tears starting to form in her eyes, and Liam put a hand on her shoulder.

"I'll try, Sparna." He smiled, making her smile as well. She wiped her eyes, thanking him.

"Be careful, okay guys?" They nodded. "Oh! And you need supplies."

"Shit. How are we supposed to get them without anyone noticing?" Marisa asked.

"I got this," Liam said. William raised his eyebrows, making Liam punch him in the side. Liam started to walk to the main part of the cave, looking around the corners for any supplies.

There was a pile of baskets, which he saw almost instantly and made his way towards. There was only one person near them, which was Naya, who was leaning her back against the wall, and he was almost clear until she said, "Stealing, huh?"

"I'm not stealing! I'm gonna try and make some more of these and I need to see how they were made. Plus, some of them are broken."

"You know I don't care, right?"

"But you asked-"

"Just grab your baskets and leave."

Liam grabbed four of the baskets, grabbing one of the stone daggers as well and putting it in her basket. Naya narrowed her eyes but didn't say anything and went back to staring into space.

William smiled when Liam came back with the supplies. "Huh. Nice improve."

"Oh, it wasn't improve. I was thinking about what I was going to say the whole conversation. I knew we were going to need supplies."

Zeke smiled, and went for a high five, but then realized that all their hands were full. He then looked at Marisa. "Please be safe, Marisa." He grabbed her hands, and he looked genuinely concerned.

"Oh, get a room!" Liam joked. Marisa glared at him, but William couldn't help but laugh. Zeke wrapped his arms around Marisa without a second thought. William smiled at Marisa's shock yet happiness at his gesture, even when he realized and walked away.

"Okay, so, Sparna, about that plan you had?" William started, but Sparna didn't answer. She was staring out in the distance, and when he saw who she was staring at, she understood. Nico was sleeping, his head leaning on Ty's shoulder, who was also asleep.

Liam touched her shoulder. She wiped around, startled. "He'll be okay, he said."

"I know," She said, but William wasn't so sure she agreed.

"So..." Marisa started. When Sparna didn't catch on, she added, "The plan?"

"Oh!" She exclaimed. "Right. Come on." She gestured them towards the back of the cave, pointing at the ground. "I found this while I was sitting back here."

"The ground...?" William asked. She rolled her eyes.

"No, idiot." She brushed the floor, and a circular shaped stone trap door was revealed.

"What the hell?" Marisa murmured.

"I'm guessing it leads to the outside," She explained.

William cracked his knuckles. "You sure it's safe?"

Liam didn't look bothered at all, however. Actually, he pushed through the crowd and opened the trap door. "There's only one way to find out."

Zeke side by side next to Orion, fiddling with his hands. He had half wished that he had gone with the hunters, just so he would have something to do, but they gave him a specific task to do and he was going to honor their request. He just hoped he wouldn't need to do what they asked of him. The thought of something bad happening to him was too much, especially since Jayed, Eira, Hedi and Dylan were already taking longer than usual.

Talon had fallen asleep. Zeke was actually very impressed with how well she's doing with her lessons. Sure, she wasn't the best at acting out the signs, but she could understand some of the things Orion was saying-some from interpretation from context and some from actual lessons-and that was what really mattered, right?

Zeke nudged Orion, who was close to falling asleep. He shot up, rubbing his eyes. "Can we talk?"

Why? Everything okay?

No. Four kids had just run into the wild with barely anything to defend themselves. But he couldn't tell him that, they would kill him.

"I'm just bored. And I don't think I can fall asleep under these circumstances."

I was about to, He signed, rolling his eyes a little.

"Yeah, sorry about that." Orion brushed it off, moving closer as to tell Zeke that he was listening to him.

Only then did it occur to him that he had no idea what to talk about. "Y-You go first."

What do you want to talk about?

"I don't know, something to make me distracted and happy at the same time?"

Orion sighed, and Zeke assumed that he was thinking. Finally, he signed, Remember that one time politely I told you to leave me alone because I needed rest?

"No."

It's about to happen.

Zeke punched Orion in the side, smirking. "I'm serious, though. You can go to sleep right after you give me something to think about before that."

Orion sighed again, putting his hand to his mouth. Zeke knew he was thinking because he did that a lot when he was trying to think of something. Well, you could think about the times when you came over for to my house for the night because your Dad was busy and organized all of my messy clothes, throwing any indigo ones at me.

"That might have been fun for you to watch but it was not fun to experience."

And after that I never wore indigo again.

"Yeah, and I told you how stupid it was to throw away a whole part of your wardrobe just because it freaked me out."

Zeke had never been fond of the color indigo. He wasn't sure why, but it always made him feel strangely weird and anxious.

You learned fricking sign language for me, it was not that big of a deal.

"Well that was just being considerate. I mean, I knew if we were going to be friends I would have to adjust to a few things."

Yeah, but you didn't have to be my friend.

"Now we're just talking crazy. Yes I did, Orion, and I don't want you to say anything else about that." Zeke tilted his head, making sure Orion didn't say anything that contradicted what Zeke had said. He didn't, but he smiled, making Zeke smile too. "Thank you."

Why was his friend so modest when he had so much he could be bragging about? Great grades, an amazing family and an especially amazing best friend. An overall good life, even with the bumps in the road like not many people understanding him, which he manages to overcome easily.

After some silence, Orion took a deep breath and started signing something else. Zeke, I need to-

However, he was interrupted by the sound of shouting coming from the outside of the cave. People screaming for help. Zeke wondered if it was Marisa and her group, but then he realized none of the voices belonged to them. They belonged to Jayed and Hedi.

Without thinking, Zeke jumped up from his seat and ran to the boulder. He started pushing with all of his strength, sweat pouring down his forehead. "Get William!" Someone said, but before anybody moved, Zeke stopped them by telling them he was extremely upset and didn't want to be bothered.

"Can someone else please help me?"

Right after he asked, two people came to help, one of them being Orion-which he had figured, since he was rather strong-and Naya, not the person he would have guessed to volunteer herself. But she did anyways, taking a spot between Orion and Zeke. After a few minutes of pushing the boulder, it finally made enough of a crack for everyone to fit through. If Zeke was being completely honest, he was surprised that all four came back alive and basically unharmed.

As soon as Jayed stepped into the cave, he ran right to Quinn, wrapping his arms around him so tight that his face somehow went even paler. Obviously, he didn't care about possibly catching whatever Quinn had. Even though Zeke could tell Quinn was still sick and felt worse from Jayed's squeezing, he embraced him back, smiling and telling him that he was happy that he was okay. Hedi fell to his knees, wiping sweat from his forehead. Eira stood beside him, making sure he was okay. Dylan rolled his eyes, crossing his arms.

"Okay, what the hell happened out there?" Zeke asked.

"And where's the water?" Naya said, no hint of sarcasm in her voice. Lany and Nico joined the group, and it was safe to say that since Nico was alone, Ty was somehow asleep, along with Talon.

"The monster found us," Hedi explained. "Well, we heard it and climbed trees to get away from it."

"These two were so scared I'm surprised they didn't die of fear," Dylan said.

"Oh don't act so tough, Dylan, I bet you pissed your pants while you were up there."

"At least I wasn't acting like a faggot with all of your cuddling and shit!"

Jayed's face turned completely pink, while Hedi's face turned red, and it was hard to tell if it was from anger or embarrassment. Possibly a little of both. Zeke, sure of what his next move would be, ran behind him and grabbed his wrists to keep him from charging.

"It's not worth it," He said, and when Hedi finally nodded, he let him go.

"Anyways, Jayed's the only one that got a good look at the monster. We're talking about the one we hid from, not Dylan, by the way."

Eira covered her mouth with her hand while he let out a small chuckle, Zeke trying his best to suppress his laugh. Dylan snarled. Wow. Zeke could see what Hedi was talking about.

"So, Jayed," Naya started, arms crossed. "what was it?"

All eyes moved from her to him, and as they did he gulped, stepping forward so that he was no longer right beside Quinn. "Well, um, i-it wasn't the same one we saw on the beach. This one had two heads, one of them with razor sharp teeth and one with extremely keen claws. It was... much more terrifying."

Suddenly, Nico, exclaimed, "I told you!" Zeke looked at him in the middle of his little bouncing-dance.

"What are you talking about, Nico?" Hedi asked.

"Do you not remember when me and Ty came back to the beach after Jayed's group found us? I was telling you guys that Ty said they saw a two headed monster, and nobody believed us. Even after we saw that first monster, you still thought Ty was lying about the two heads. But. They. Weren't." It was surprising how proud he looked of being right about a blood-thirsty monster. "You know, you should really listen to us more, we're very helpful," He said, crossing his arms as he smirked.

He's right, Orion signed, gaping. Zeke translated for everyone, but he definitely agreed with him.

"Did I miss something while I was asleep?" Lany asked, but no one answered him.

"I gotta tell Sparna," Nico said, running to the back of the cave and Zeke's jaw unhinged, falling down. He forgot he was supposed to keep him distracted.

"No!" Zeke shouted, chasing after him, but he didn't listen. He was all the way at the back when Zeke stopped, biting his nail. Nico came back into the more open section of the cave, his eyes burning a hole in Zeke's.

"Where's my sister?"
