Scratch
Yellow and Blue Zircon have adjusted well to life on Earth. It still amazes them, the melodic birds chirping, the sweet smell of the flowers and the soft, green grass beneath their bare feet. Although they are much more relaxed than they've ever been and see no imminent threat, they still train with Pearl. Yellow's weapon is a slim, sharp rapier sword. Blue's is a thicker, pointed spear.
Blue's fighting style is hesitant at first, then becomes more dance-like as she gets into it. Yellow's is surefooted and confident. But their favorite type of training is the one involving Green Zircon, their fusion. Green has both Yellow's confident style and Blue's analytical thinking. Yellow particularly likes being Green Zircon because "then everyone can see that the best part of me is you."
The two are living happily together, training and practicing. They aren't sure if they want to be a permafusion like Garnet, but they definitely enjoy being Green. But the dark, star-dotted and moonlit nights is Yellow's favorite time. The two sit under the pitch black sky and stare up at the stars. Blue gets tired eventually and leans against Yellow, who chuckles and holds her close.
It happens without warning. The modern gem war. Getting over the initial shock, the two zircons began fighting. They would protect this planet from their home one. It was treason, yes, but they had stopped caring many rotations ago. Blue holds out her hand and Yellow sweeps into her embrace.
But not before a well-placed blade chips her gem, cracking it.
Blue screams, holding onto her carefully. "Please, hang on Yellow, I know it hurts but if you poof, I might never see you again." She murmurs fearfully. Yellow smiles through her glitching form and holds Blue closer. "I love you so much Blue," Yellow says, tugging at Blue's sleeves. Blue shakes her head. "I can't understand what you're saying." She whispers slowly. Yellow begins to sway with Blue.
"Yellow, we- you can't- you should-" She's interrupted with a kiss. She sighs sadly, kissing back slowly. She wishes this moment could last forever, but it will end soon. All things, good or bad, come to an end eventually. And Yellow is nearing the end of her own form. If Blue doesn't get Yellow's gemstone healed soon, Yellow will be shattered here in this awful war. If she can't be healed, Yellow would be gone.
Yellow's humming is off-key and her movements are shaky, but she continues to lead Blue into their fusion dance. The soldiers nearby draw their weapons, bracing to face a new fusion. As the two sway, their gems begin to glow. The crack in Yellow's gem deepens and spreads, tears spilling from her honey gold eyes. As the blinding light engulfs the two, more soldiers surround them.
But the light suddenly disappears as Yellow poofs with a sudden cry of something Blue can't understand. "I love you Blue!" Yellow shouts, but her words fall on ears that can't understand her. Her form was too disrupted and her speech had been affected as a result. But Blue understands all too well what just happened. She lunges at the gem, desperate to cover her so no one can step on her.
Blue carries the gem in her hands and scrambles away, a few quartzes chasing after her.
She kneels down, placing the gem in front of her. She lowers her sword, placing it in front of herself. She stays quiet for several minutes as she sobs. The quartzes approach her silently, her guard down. One lifts their sword as Blue turns to face them, her eyes wide and full of tears. The quartz brings the sword down through her form.
One steps on the yellow gem, breaking it into several smaller pieces.
They leave the blue gem alone, leaving her to suffer the loss of the one she loved.
