Cold
A tearful embrace, soft sniffles. Yellow holds onto the corrupted gem, whispering of sweet memories. The gem shudders, then her gemstone begins to glow. She poofs, and Yellow cradles the gem carefully, staring at it. Running her finger over it, she is amazed to find that it's smooth and even, the cracks and marks gone. She smiles and carries the gem back to the base.
Days go by, and Blue has not reformed. Yellow keeps the gem with her, making fresh, hot cups of coffee for when Blue reforms. She even knits a tiny blanket and pillow for her. She often just sits on the edge of her bed and talks to the gem. Perhaps the others think she's gone mad. She hasn't, she just wants Blue to be comfortable when she reforms.
She won't let herself say if she reforms, but as the days turn into weeks, she begins to worry. Late one night, she is talking to her and looking through her files when the gem begins to shimmer a gentle blue glow.
Yellow jolts upright, watching as the light hesitantly takes the shape of Blue Zircon. As the gem lands on the ground, Yellow throws her arms around her in a hug. Blue just awkwardly stands there, not knowing what to do. She suddenly shoves Yellow off.
Yellow backs up, scratching her head. "Sorry. I was too forward there, but I missed you so much!" She says quickly. Blue continues to stare at her. Yellow waits for her to respond.
"I didn't." Blue says quietly. Yellow's eyes widen, tears forming quickly. She takes another reeling step backwards, almost as if Blue had punched her. Which would be a lot better than the current situation.
"Blue! It's me, Yellow! Don't you remember me?"
"I remember you, Yellow." She replies in a monotone voice.
"Don't you...love me?"
"No. I can't and don't love you." Blue says, each word stabbing Yellow to the very core of her gem.
As Blue leaves, Yellow falls to the floor, sobbing.
"I almost wish you hadn't been healed."
She covers her mouth at the horrible words she just uttered.
"Oh stars no, I don't mean that, I mean...I wish you hadn't been corrupted in the first place." She hastily corrects herself.
But it's too late. It's been too late for months now.
