CHAPTER EIGHT
Hi my people!!!!!
Enjoy!!!!

"While we were benumbed, the devil sneaked in and ruined our harvest."
That saying definitely apply to my situation. I let my guard down. I slept when I should have kept watch. Now the devil has gotten us—the devil in form of father. Wanting to ruin our happiness that took us a long time to possess. I am back to square one.
I also did not hear from Timi since yesterday. No message. No call. Nothing. Zilch.
“We’ll be fine baby,” Maama mutters running her fingers through my curls.
“I don’t know anymore,” I cry, turning to look at her with sadness prominent in my eyes.
The same that I see reflecting in hers.
“Tell me Jade, do you think I should drop the divorce?” she asks in utter confusion. I am more confused.
I fear for our lives and safety as I know father made no empty threat. And he has very strong connections in this school and this state.
Father is a politician wanting to run for the post of house of assembly in Adari constituency. I guess now he is scared of his dirty secrets being aired in the public.
Thinking further about this, I realize we need to go about this in a different dimension. We could either give in or not.
“I think it is high time we are both free from father’s shackles. And if we don’t do it now, it might get harder in the future,” I pause, sitting up on my mattress,
“I do not think you should drop it,” I add, finally.
Maama looks up at me with determination in her eyes. For once and for all, we have decide to fight this battle. We have each other and that is more than enough. We will forge ahead.
“Do you remember anything from yesternight?” Maama asks suddenly, “You were mumbling for Timi in your dream, you begged me to sing you a lullaby. You did not sleep till I did,” she adds with a small smile.
Unfortunately, I do not remember any of these occurrences, I can’t believe I was asking for Timi while sleeping besides Maama.
That is just as embarrassing as my 10 years old self was when I still bed wetted.
“So, did anything happen between you and Timi?” Maama asks with a sly smirk.
“I really don’t know Maama. He didn’t reply my message and with what happened with father I was too shocked to get myself to do anything,” I explain with a frown on my face.
I wonder what he is doing right now. Does he even miss me? I frown when I think of the possibility that he does not.
Again, I feel a bilious bitterness forming in the pit of my belly. And it is spreading like measles all over body. It is a terrible feeling.
“Don’t you think you should probably call him?” Maama questions incredulously while resting against the bed frame. Her eyes hold something close to disappointment. At me.
“I didn’t want to seem clingy,” I groan, face palming at my stupidity.
I could have just called him instead of waiting for his call. I just wanted to know if he thought of me as I of him.
My heart is heavy at the possibility that he probably does not think of me that much.
“My dear—”
However, Maama is cut off by the light knocks on our door from outside.
That is definitely not Adisa.
So, I figured it is one of my nosy neighbors. Slipping in my comfy slippers I pad over my carpet to open the damn door as the knocks are now becoming incessant and purposeful.
“Who are—?”
Again, I am caught short. It is him. Him. He fills my entire doorway and all I can see is him.
Again, I realize that he has never been to my apartment with me awake. My apartment that is in a messy situation at the moment. I shut the door in his face as this realization hit me.
“Oh my God!!!!” I exclaim, rushing down the hallway to my room, “Maama, he’s around!!” I whisper-scream, walking from pillar to post with my hands flailing in the air.
I am utterly nervous. It is early in the morning and I’m sure my eyes are swollen and my lips supper puffy.
My room is also in a not-too-good-to-host-guests-like-Timi mode.
Most of all, my heart is clenching so happily, it results to my nervous energy.
“Who is around?” Maama asks shooting an incredulous look at my drama. She doesn’t understand the gravity of the situation.
“It’s Timi,” I whisper, squeezing my hands together with a troubled look. I have to look good before I could let him in. And I have the perfect plan.
“Really!!” Maama screams, jumping up from the mattress, “Why are you here? Go let him in young lady,” she continues, yelling at me.
“Maama please let him in. I need to look presentable first,” I plead, blinking my doe eyes at her.
Understanding finally dawn on her as she takes me in from head to toe.
“You definitely do not look presentable my dear,” she agrees with an embarrassed shake of head, “Now off you go to the bathroom,” she shoos me off with her hands.
I hear her opening the door for Timi, I also notice that the rapport between them is pleasant. Like they’ve met before.
“You brought flowers for me?”
I hear her cooing and awing.
“Yes for both of you ladies,” he answers charmingly. I guess he has won both of our hearts.
Hurriedly, I take a fast shower before applying my face balm.
Internally, my heart is beating like a fast Banta drum, my stomach has this weird fluttery feeling that I have no words for. I want to see him, hold him, and talk to him.
However, I am really nervous about it. Counting always did the job for moments like this, but it seems not to be working in this moment.
Taking a deep breath, I gaze back at my reflection from the mirror, I finally look fit to be seen.
My eyes are not as swollen—at least it isn’t noticeable anymore—and my lips are back to their normal pouty shape. My fluffy Afro is pulled up in a bun, emphasizing my diamond face shape and my high cheekbone.
All in all, I think I look pretty, donned up in my sweatpants and sweatshirt as it is still deathly cold here.
Saying a quick prayer, I open the bathroom door and go towards my room.
Maama and Timi look pretty deep I conversation and it takes a fake cough from me to jerk them apart.
“Hey,” I say shyly, looking everywhere but his face.
He is well dressed in his suit shirt and trousers. In fact, he look overdressed. No student dressed like they are coming from a 9-5 job.
To be honest, he carries the outfit with such finesse, I am almost salivating. The shirt hugs his broad shoulders like an old friend, and the trousers is so snug on his thighs where he seated on the chair.
Now, I am definitely salivating. A pendant is also peeking out from the two buttons he left open on his shirt, revealing his beautiful sternum.
He looks more than good. I wonder how many girls are hovering over him in school, class, at the book shop where he works. I feel envy bolt through my veins.
I want him to be mine. Mine only. Not for some other girls to ogle.
“Jade,” he drawls the vowels out throatily, standing up to meet me.
I can feel his eyes roaming over my face. His cologne is so sexy and sensuous. I immediately feel the sexual tension between us.
“How have you been?” he asks worriedly, his hands reaching out to hold me before he retracts them back into his pocket.
His question arose those feelings from the day before. I am angry at him for taking this long to contact me, although, I cannot deny the happiness I feel seeing him in my apartment.
“Well, it was super dandy,” I retort, folding my hands defensively, “Guess what? A certain someone that I sent a text message to refused to reply me. He kept me waiting, now he is here asking me how I have been,” I add, with a pointed look at his face, still not looking him in the eyes.
I hear Maama sharp laughter.
“I think the morning air will do me some good,” Maama says, her eyes twinkling like they hold some unknown secret. “I’ll see you guys later,” she adds, directing a wink at me.
“Well this certain someone will appreciate it if you look him in the eyes while talking to me,” he bits back with a smile in his voice, “So you could understand the sincerity of his apology,” he adds warmly.
I refuse to look into his eyes. They are my weaknesses. I’ll probably jump him or do something along that line if I do look into his eyes.
However, I never share any of these with him.
“Jade,” he whispers again, his hands holding my chin so softly—like a china doll. “Look at me,” he pleads so soothingly, I don’t know when I did.
His eyes hold a troubled look. I look so deep into his eyes that I can see the dusty array of his brown irises.
There is something this does to me, it rose a deeper feeling in me, making my heart swell with so much emotions it could almost burst.
“I’m sorry,” he apologizes, “For everything. For yesterday, I was really busy. I’m really sorry I couldn’t call you,” he adds with so much emotion.
Pulling him closer, I hug him tight, sinking my head into his chest. His smell fill every inch of my lungs and I couldn’t be happier.
“I was so worried yesterday, I was so, so worried,” I reply, his chest mumbling my words.
“I’m sorry Jade,” he repeats again. I appreciate the fact that he feels remorseful for what he did, however, I know that I have my own apology to make.
“I’m sorry too Timi,” I reply, running my hands over his arms.
"For what?” he asks in bewilderment after pulling back to look into my face.
“I should have called you or something. But I was scared of coming off as clingy,” I admit embarrassingly.
“Look at me,” he commands evenly, looking deep into my doe eyes, his eyes every bit serious, “You should never feel scared or embarrassed or shy to call me, I’ll never judge you for that,” he adds, drawing me closer to him with his hands on my waist. “I think we’ve passed that,” he whispers in my ear, squeezing my ass.
A wave of lust pass through me and I press my lips tight to suppress it.
That last action should have helped, but it definitely did not, my whole body is buzzing for Timi, his smell and his body so close to me does some carnal things to my body.
Opening my eyes to look at him, I find his intent gaze on my face already, and it looks like he is contemplating something.
“What are you thinking about right now?” I ask worriedly. Has he changed his mind about us?
“About us,” he supplies finally. “I want to marry you someday Jade, maybe not now, but definitely soon,” he drops.
Funny enough, this doesn’t scare me like before.
Instead, it makes me feel cherished and loved and needed. It makes me happy.
I can feel the joy blossom in me and I can’t hide the smile that breaks out on my face.
“You know that makes me more than happy,” I reply shyly, desperately finding his cufflinks interesting.
I see him go low on one knee, right in the middle of my room, his hands reaching into his pocket to pull out a fancy cute little box.
His eyes are steady on me and serious looking. My heartbeat is going into an overdrive and I don’t know how to react to this.
“I know we have only known each other for two months, however, I have never felt the deep connection that I have with you with anyone else. I’m offering you this ring as a promise of what I intend to do in the future. I promise to always cherish and adore you. I promise to always put you first. But most of all, I promise to love you till our last breath”—he pauses, his eyes peering intently into mine—“Will you accept this promise ring, Jade?” he asks finally, the little box now opened, revealing a simple ring that catches the light peeking in from my curtain.
I want to squeal, scream, shout or do anything. Something at all. It feels thrilling and overwhelming.
At the same time a small part of me is shocked and terrified.
“Don’t keep me waiting Jade,” he pleads with a small smile on his handsome face.
“Yes Timi,” I reply finally, “I do to everything. I promise to love you till death do us apart. Even after death do us part,” I whisper.
He slips the ring unto my left ring finger. It is so beautiful a moment that it brings tears to my face.
I just can’t help it.
“Stop crying Jade,” he says worriedly as if he cannot bear to see me in tears. His eyes run over my face as he holds me gingerly.
And tenderly.
“But they are tears of joy,” I mumble, wiping my tears away furiously, “I’m sorry for ruining your shirt,” I cry again.
I do not understand what is happening to me. Tears are flowing from my lacrimal glands so badly and I just cannot stop. It is like an opened tap.
“I’m sorry Jade, I just don’t want to see you cry, good tears or otherwise,” he says gently, wiping my tears away with his index finger.
It is so intimate that fresh tears starts flowing, “Oh God! I don’t know what to do Jade,” he says helplessly.
“Just hold me Timi,” I advise.
“Just hold me.”
