Conversion Academy {27}

"Do you think he's going to kill us?" I asked Kaz.

We were cuddled together on my bed, covers tugged up to our chests. We'd both slept in later than usual and I knew we had to get up soon to get ready for class, but I was content right here for a few more minutes.

Kaz was playing with my hair, making me drowsy again. He shrugged at me. "He can't do anything else. I stole all the files he had on all the students."

"Oh, so that's what you were doing," I said. "What are you going to do with those?"

"Leo and Mikayla burned them last night. I gave Mikayla my bag before I followed you in here," he said. "They snuck out again and set them all on fire. Leo put the ashes in front of the door to the building Constance's office is in."

"We totally incriminated ourselves though," I said.

"He can't kick us out. That would look bad on the Academy. The whole purpose of this place is to be able to handle the worst kinds of troublemakers. If he kicks us out, it opens a door that plenty of others students can barge through. Constance will be admitting he can't handle that kind of trouble. He won't do that. In fact, he'll probably keep what we kid quiet. He doesn't want other students taking hits at him," Kaz said.

"You really thought this through," I said.

Kaz nodded. "Of course I did. My mom would kill me if I got kicked out of another school."

"Wow, my dick and I would be so lonely," I said with a frown. "Don't get kicked out."

He rolled his eyes and kissed me. I put my arms around him, my hands trailing lightly down his back, feeling the scar tissue gathered there.

The door to our room opened. "Hey, I need to get dressed. Get out."

"Leo," I said, pulling away from Kaz. "I will happily fuck Kaz right here, right now, with you watching."

"Unfortunately for you, I have more modesty than that," Kaz said as he sat up.

He got out of my bed and pulled his pants on, picking his shirt up off the floor. He left my bedroom and I sat up, running a hand through my messy hair.

"Way to ruin everything, Leo," I grumbled.

"Hey, I gave you all night alone. I needed to put my uniform on," he said, digging around for it in his closet.

I got up and grabbed my things, leaving the room. I showered, brushed my teeth, and got dressed.

Leo and I left our room and met up with the others. Siggy and Cam stood together at the end of the hallway, but Siggy didn't look at us as we passed by him, and Kaz didn't say anything about the bruise barely hidden by Siggy's shirt near his neck.

We made our way to the academic building, and I looked around, wondering if an army of Blues would surround us. I could only imagine the lengths Constance would go to just to get back at us for what we had done.

But no one attacked us and we made it into the building without any problems. Kaz strut into the room with a confidence that seemed to set the others at ease.

We took our seats and waited until Mr. Sternberg came into the room. He didn't shoot any of us dirty looks or tell us we were all going to hell, so I had a feeling Kaz was right about Constance keeping everything quiet. After all, why would he tell the teachers that Kaz Warrick had bested him?

Class returned to normal, with Kaz using lighter methods to piss off our teachers. He initiated operation pen click (much to Leo's delight) to piss off Mr. Sternberg, endured a few rulers smacks after playing I'm A Believer when Mr. Miller brought up the devil (my boyfriend knows me so damn well), and grinned his way through a lecture screamed at his face after Kaz cracked a joke about park sex (totally willing to try that, by the way).

Lunch and our last classes were the same rhythm, with no sign of Constance and no Blues giving us trouble. By the end of the day, we collected Beckett and started back towards the dorm building, everyone in higher spirits.

"I'm just saying, I think we should burn the place down before we leave," Leo said.

Mikayla shook her head. "No, no way. Insurance will probably cover that. If we graffiti the buildings, smash a few windows, break a few doors...now that, that'll be a good farewell gift."

"You people are al horrible influences," I said.

"You sucked my dick all night," Kaz said. "Don't be a hypocrite, Malley."

"Listen, my talents don't hurt other people," I said, glaring at him. "But if you want to keep being rude, I'll introduce your dick to my teeth."

"Harsh. Hey, Pete, can you get it up anymore with all those drugs?" Leo asked.

"Haven't tried since I came to the Academy," Pete said, shrugging. Kaz had been keeping him on the lowest dose possible, so he was a little more coherent, but still in a forced state of euphoria.

"It's alright. I'll lend you some cash for Viagra," Leo said, patting Pete's back sympathetically.

"Oh please. You're not getting any action either," Pete said, lightly shoving Leo away from himself. He paused and frowned. "When was the last time I had sex? I can't even remember."

"It could've been five minutes ago and you still wouldn't remember," Kaz said.

"Notepad tattoo," Leo said, tapping Pete's arm. "It'll really save you, man."

"Students."

We all stopped and I partially hid behind Kaz as Constance eyed us with a cool look. Okay, okay, I'm a total chicken. Cut me some slack here, I wasn't built like Mikayla and I wasn't quick like Kaz.

"I spent my day cleaning up my office. I noticed some files were missing," Constance said, eyes training on Kaz. "I found a box of ashes in front of the door this morning."

"Oh, darn, did I do that?" Leo asked, frowning. "Shit, sorry Constance, I think my lighter slipped out of my hands."

"You could've had so much potential and you wasted it all on childish acts of rebellion," Constance said, ignoring Leo and continuing to look at Kaz. "What a shame to your mother and your father's memory."

"If my mother knew what you were doing to me here, she'd set more than just some files on fire," Kaz said. "Look Constance, it's over. You can try to come up with something else, but we both know I'll just outsmart you again. Your specialty is mental abuse. But that doesn't work on us. You can try to separate us, sure, but you know we'll find our way back together. So, what'll it be?"

"It'll be me waiting for the day you land yourself in prison alongside your friends here," Constance said, gesturing to the others. "It'll be me waiting for the day I hear Peter is broke on the streets after wasting his money on drugs, that Mikayla's vandalism and Leo's lock picking land them right next to you behind bars. It'll be me sending Killian home to his family with the disappointing report that he resisted all of our efforts to fix him."

"And while you wait for all of those things to happen, we'll be out living our lives, happy and successful," Kaz said. "We're not going to throw our lives away."

Kaz moved past Constance, hitting him with his shoulder. Oh shit boy. Shots fired.

But Constance was out of ammo, so he simply watched Kaz walk away. The rest of us held our heads up high (lmao totally ducked and ran), and walked on by to catch up with Kaz.

Kaz led us back to the dorm building and into his and Pete's room. We settled down in our usual spots, everyone grinning at Kaz triumphantly.

"How anticlimactic," Kaz said with a sigh.

"It was pretty badass," Leo said, grin growing wider. "Shit, I live for this drama."

My phone buzzed in my pocket and I pulled it out, my face paling. "Speaking of drama."

I stared at my mom's contact as it flashed on the screen. Kaz nudged me and nodded, placing his hand on top of mine.

I slid my finger across the screen and held the phone up to my ear. "Hello?"

"Killian," mom said, struggling as though she wasn't quite sure what to say. "I've talked to your father."

"Congratulations, you two only live together," I said.

"I don't want your sass!" she said. "I'm just...we...Killian, I'm sorry we hurt you. We don't...We don't understand why you..." She stopped and took a few moments before trying again. "We don't understand it. But we can try. We're going to make mistakes, and I'm sorry. But we just...it wasn't acceptable when we were growing up. Killian, people were hurt and killed for it. We're trying, okay? We're trying."

I stayed quiet, knowing that they didn't understand, knowing they'd keep hurting me with mistakes, but infinitely relieved that at least they'd try, at least they wouldn't shut me out. I closed my eyes and tried not to bawl like a baby in front of everyone in the room.

"Killian? Are you still there?" mom asked quietly.

"Yea." I cleared my throat. "Yea, mom, I'm here."

"You're still my son."

"I would hope so. Otherwise, I'm sure there's a very concerned woman out there wondering where her kid went."

"Killian!"

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I don't know how to handle sentimental moments." I opened my eyes and glanced at Kaz. "Mom, when you pick me up one the last day here, I want you to meet my boyfriend. He's a nice guy. His hair is stupid, but he's really a good person. I want you to be happy that I'm with a good person."

She was quiet for a moment. "Okay, Killian."

"This is getting awkward, so I'm going to hang up now," I said. "Bye, mom."

"Bye, Killian. I love you. I really do," she said softly before the line clicked dead.

I stared at the phone in my hand. It would be hard. It would be frustrating. It would hurt.

But it would be worth it in the end. I would work with my parents and help them come to terms with having a gay son. Things would be awkward and different for a while, maybe even for years, but I hoped that one day, I had a wedding and my mom walked me down the aisle and my dad clapped me on the shoulder and said he was happy for me. I wanted them to be supportive, even if they didn't exactly like what they were being supportive of. I wanted them to love their son more than they hated homosexuality. That was all I wanted.

"Um, yea, so that's all cleared up," I said, squeezing Kaz's hand. "Please don't steal from my parents when you meet them. I think it'll make this whole thing a lot harder."

"Deal," he said, and tossed me my wallet.

"Kaz!" I glared at him.

"Kaz!" Beckett also glared at him and held his hand out.

Kaz sighed. "I've been caught."

He slipped Beckett's yo-yo out of his pocket and placed it in Beckett's hand. Beckett shot him a dirty look before beginning to play with his yo-yo.

"Next time you steal from me, I'll hit you," Beckett said, flinging the yo-yo dangerously close to Kaz's face.

Kaz didn't seem concerned, though. "You wouldn't dare. You know I can hit back harder."

Beckett chose to ignore that, instead going back to playing with his yo-yo. Leo put on some music and we all relaxed back and talked, joking around and teasing each other.

After about an hour, there was a knock on the door. We all glanced at each other and Kaz raised an eyebrow.

"It's unlocked," he called.

The door swung open and Siggy stood there, carrying Rogan on his back. Rogan smacked the back of Siggy's head.

"Ow, I was getting to it!" Siggy said impatiently. "Do that again and I'll drop you."

"You've been threatening to drop me since I jumped on you," Rogan said dismissively.

Siggy rolled his eyes and turned back to us. "Kaz, I'm sorry. About what I did. Rogan said you slipped him a note that you burn Constance's file on us. We called our parents and convinced them to let us stay together. We're not separated anymore. I'm not being pulled from the school."

"And Kaz, the next time you lay a finger on my brother, I'll break your arms," Rogan warned.

"Stop, I instigated it," Siggy said. Siggy glanced at Kaz. "Although I forgot how deadly you can be."

Kaz shrugged. "I'm no weakling. Probably should've lightened up a bit, though. You caught me on a bad day."

"Yea, remind me to never do that again," Siggy grumbled.

The Siggeir brothers came into the room and Siggy dropped Rogan into a chair. Siggy proceeded to explain to the others what had happened with Constance, and while they didn't exactly look like they forgave him yet, they looked at him like they could reach that point sooner rather than later.

"So things are finally going to go back to normal around here, huh?" Leo said, slinging an arm around Mikayla's shoulders. "I guess I can go back to skipping class to skateboard."

Mikayla elbowed him in the ribs. "Don't you dare. How am I supposed to pass math without you?"

"You'll just have to find a way. This guy needs some fresh air!" Leo said, looking out of the window. "I miss riding down the hills in town. You can come with me if you want, Mika."

"No way. I am determined to pass this stupid math class. I can't miss it," Mikayla said.

"Wow, it's going to be weird not looking over my shoulder constantly for Constance," I said.

"I think you'll adjust," Kaz said, kissing my cheek. He slipped his arm around my waist and I leaned against him.

Okay, okay, so everything was working out for the better. My parents were actually going to try and love their flaming homosexual of a son, Kaz and Siggy had made up, Constance was going to leave us alone, and things in class were going back to normal. This was good. I could definitely live with this.

"Let's go for a walk after dinner," Kaz said to me.

I smiled a little. "You and your damn walks. I hate physical activity."

"True, but you love my company," he said. "So, we're walking after dinner."

"Fair enough." I let my head drop onto his shoulder, taking comfort in the familiarity of Kaz's body. I was going to make sure he never felt the way Aaron had made him feel. I would treat him the best I could. I would show him all the bad scifi movies I loved and listen to his infectious laughter. I would suck his dick and cuddle with him and be hot and be cute and just make Kaz happy.

I looked around the room. I had come here afraid of these people, but right now, in this room, surrounded by kids that society had cast off as worthless delinquents, I'd never felt happier or more at home.

I reached out and took Kaz's hand in mine. He smiled at me, and I'd give up everything, even memes and sex, to see that smile all the time.

"Welcome to Conversion Academy," he mumbled, kissing my head.

And despite everything, those words made me smile.
