4. Believe
Hi from here on out please no blurryface references thanks
"Joshie stop!" Tyler giggled loudly as Josh pressed kisses into his neck as they laid in the former's bed.
"I," kiss. "Can't," kiss. "Stop," kiss. He peppered at least a dozen more kisses into Tyler's neck. His heart swelled when Tyler only laughed harder.
"You are such a nerd," he gently pushed Josh's face as he moved closer to his chest, taking Josh's arms and wrapping them around himself.
"I'm your nerd, though," Josh hummed.
"Yeah," Tyler let out a happy sigh. "And I'm so grateful you are," he grabbed Josh's hand and laced their fingers together, squeezing slightly. "I love you."
"I love you too," Josh replied easily.
The two laid there in silence for a moment and Tyler felt so safe and so comfortable that he felt himself begin to doze off.
"Ty?" Josh gently shook him.
"Hm?"
"I know you love napping with me but if you fall asleep now you'll be up all night," Josh explained softly.
Tyler snuggled further into him. "I probably won't be able to sleep anyway if I have nightmares again," he pouted.
"How about this?" Josh hummed. "If you have another nightmare that wakes you up then I want you to call me, okay? I'll turn my ringer on and keep my phone next to me and answer when you call."
Tyler turned around so he was facing Josh with a hesitant look. "I don't wanna wake you up."
"I don't mind," Josh gently pushed Tyler's hair off his forehead and Tyler smiled when he caught a glance of his black nails.
Tyler found himself bringing his finger up to grasp the chain around Josh's neck, twisting it around that said finger and playing with it slightly. "I love you," he repeated, trying to put as much passion into those words as he could.
Josh smiled softly. "I love you too."
Suddenly, a loud crash was heard from above. The two gave one another worried looks. "Jay? Maddy?" Tyler called carefully, getting up and grabbing Josh's hand as he got up too.
Tyler let his body melt fearfully against his boyfriend's as the two walked out out of his room. They stopped when they saw the ladder from the attic was down.
Tyler gestured towards it and the two quietly climbed it, their hands never separating.
Once they were up there, Tyler scanned the room. He saw nothing.
"What are you guys doing up here?"
Tyler gasped and squeezed Josh's hand tighter. He spun around and let his free hand cover his heart.
Maddy was standing there with a confused face and a raised eyebrow.
"You scared me!" Tyler laughed out. He gently hit her arm causing her to giggle. "We heard a loud thump and I'm technically in charge of you two until Mom gets home from work so I got scared something happened."
"I'm alright!" She assured. "Jay wanted me to find his box of Legos since he didn't see it in his room. Something fell. I'm sorry."
"No it's okay!" Tyler assured back. "I just wanted to make sure everything was okay," he paused. "Also the box is right there," he giggled, pointing to the corner.
Maddy smiled. "Thanks, bub," she walked over and grabbed it. "Let me take this down and then I'll pick up the box that fell."
"We can pick it up," Tyler replied.
"You sure?"
"Yeah, it's fine."
"I love you," she sang.
"I love you too," Tyler laughed.
"You too, Josh!" She shouted as she made her way down the ladder.
"I love you too, Mads," Josh smiled.
Once the two were sure she was gone they looked back at each other and laughed.
"You're so paranoid," Josh chuckled, kissing Tyler's forehead.
"Do you blame me?" Tyler asked as they walked over to the fallen box. "This house is creepy I kinda have to be paranoid."
"I haven't felt anything weird," Josh shrugged.
Tyler realized the box that fell was full of Zack's stuff. He bent down and began picking things up. Josh joined him, but stopped and held a smaller box in his hands.
"Ty?"
The mentioned looked over and saw what he was holding and his face paled. "No."
Josh pouted. "Why not?"
"Josh I am not using an ouija board."
"C'mon. Then we can see if anything really creepy does lurk within this house," he spoke in a spooky voice, wiggling his eyebrows.
"I don't know Josh..." Tyler sighed. "Zack bought it to use at his friend's house senior year and he said nothing happened and hasn't used it since."
"Exactly. Nothing happened. You don't believe in this shit, do you babe?" Josh asked.
"Um... I don't not? I don't know I've never had an experience like that but I don't think it's fake."
"Let's test it out," Josh pouted once more and made puppy dog eyes.
Tyler couldn't resist them. Plus, he'd feel guilty if he told Josh no. "Okay," he agreed.
They finished picking up what had fallen before going into Tyler's room and shutting the door. Josh closed the curtains so it was darker and Tyler lit a few candles. It was nearing five in the afternoon so if wasn't that dark and the only candles he had were Bath and Body Works ones so it smelled like a mixture of black cherry and pumpkin waffles.
Tyler sat down on the floor in front of Josh as the latter began setting it up. He watched Josh set the board in between them and slid the box aside. Tyler looked at him. "Aren't you gonna read the instructions?"
Josh laughed. "Nah. We'll be fine. It's not that hard. I saw the Ouija movie."
Tyler gulped. He didn't like horror movies. They scared him too much. He remembers crying during Mostly Ghostly last Halloween.
Josh finished setting it up and guided Tyler. "Okay put your hands on the planchette," he paused when Tyler cocked his head to the side out of confusion.
"The fish thingy?"
Josh laughed. "Yeah."
Tyler complied and watched Josh with soft, innocent eyes as he took a deep breath. "Uh... are there any spirits here or some shit?"
Tyler giggled softly at the confusion in Josh's voice.
Nothing happened, prompting Josh to try again. "Heellloooo?" He called out. Still nothing so he shrugged. "See? It's not real."
Out of nowhere, the planchette began moving and Tyler gasped. "Are you moving it?" He asked in a panicked voice.
Josh looked at him with wide eyes. "No!"
"Don't lie."
"Swear on my life."
They watched the planchette move around the board.
H-E-L-L-O
Tyler glanced at Josh. "Say something!" He whispered.
"Uh... you got a name?"
It began moving again.
W-O-R-S-T-N-I-G-H-T-M-A-R-E
Tyler's heart began beating faster. "I don't think I want to do this anymore," he looked at Josh fearfully.
The planchette began moving at a rapid pace, the two boys' hands flying off of it.
B-E-C-A-R-E-F-U-L-J-O-S-H
Tyler felt tears gather in his eyes. "Josh! Make it stop!" He looked at his boyfriend helplessly.
Y-O-U-T-O-O-T-Y-L-E-R
The two candles blew out and Tyler let out a squeak. "J-Josh?" He sobbed out.
The curtains opened and Tyler looked over to see Josh opening them. He quickly shoved the board and planchette back into the box before putting the lid on. He knelt down next to Tyler and wrapped his arms around him.
"What was that?" Tyler breathed out, tears spilling onto his cheeks.
"I don't—" Josh paused. "—I don't know. Maybe Zack left it to prank us. You can probably program it to say stuff and there's a magnet in the planchette."
"What about the candles?"
"I blew those out," Josh assured. "It's okay. You're okay. I'm sorry for making you do that. Everything's okay."
If only Tyler knew in advance how wrong those words were.
