Josh took a deep breath as he heard the doorbell go off. Making his way down the stairs, he braced himself as he opened the front door.
Tyler was standing there with a scowl on his face. He pushed Josh to the side and walked in. Jim was already put in another room so they thankfully didn't have to worry about that.
"Your room," Tyler ordered, already making his way up the steps.
Josh blinked and followed him up. Once they got into the said room, Josh shut the door and looked at Tyler. "Look, do we need to talk about—"
Tyler cut Josh off by backing him up towards the door and pressing his lips to Josh's. He held onto Josh tightly as he roughly kissed him.
Josh melted into his touch excitedly. Tyler didn't hate him. Tyler still loved them. Earlier was just a mishap. Everything was okay.
As time went on, Tyler's kisses got hungrier and hungrier. It almost seemed like if Tyler didn't make out with Josh right then then he would die.
Eventually, Tyler pulled Josh off of the door and walked him over to the bed. He harshly pushed Josh onto the bed before climbing onto his lap. He leaned down and went back to kissing him.
Josh felt Tyler bite down hard on his lip and Josh let out a moan. This were okay. They were okay. They were doing great.
Tyler was never ever dominate like this and when they had make out sessions Josh always led them but he didn't mind letting Tyler take the wheel this time. It was kind of nice.
They continued and Josh felt Tyler's hands move down to his waist. He began to fumble with Josh's belt and that's when he pulled back to look at his boyfriend. "Ty are you—"
"Yes. C'mon," he painted out desperately.
Josh stopped him by putting a hand on Tyler's. "Are you okay? You weren't ready two months ago and said you wanted to wait. Are you sure this is what you want?"
Tyler let out a frustrated groan. "Yes! Fuck!"
He instantly began kissing Josh again and this time it was tougher. His hands quickly undid Josh's belt and he slid it out before throwing it on the ground.
Tyler began to tug Josh's pants down when Josh stopped and gently pushed Tyler off of him. "We just got into a fight and almost broke up. Are we sure we want to lose our virginities to one another right now?"
Tyler scowled again. "What? Are you repulsed by me? You don't want to fuck me?"
"Tyler I never said that. I'm just saying—"
"You're just saying you don't love me."
"What the hell? No! You aren't you, Tyler. I don't want this to be a bad experience for either of us just because you're going through whatever the fuck you're going through right now."
"Oh so this is my fault?" Tyler climbed off his lap. "Got it. You can go ahead and cancel those stupid ass fucking dinner reservations."
Josh sat up. "Ty, wait. Let's talk about this. I love you."
Tyler turned around and let out a dry and humorless laugh. "Fuck you. I hate you."
Then, he left. He just walked out and slammed the door behind him like the other day.
Josh let that sink in for a moment. Tyler didn't love him. Things weren't okay. Tyler hated him. Tyler was going to dump him.
Josh sat back on his bed as tears filled his eyes. He was losing Tyler.
Even though he was pretty sure he lost Tyler awhile ago.
Letting out a sob, Josh grabbed his phone and clicked on an all too familiar contact. He didn't want to be alone.
The phone rang a few times before the person he called picked up. "Hello?"
"Lina," Josh sobbed out again.
"Josh? Cariño, what's wrong?" She asked softly.
"Can you come over? Tell your parents it's an emergency or something. I just really need you right now," he bawled into the phone. "Really, really need you."
Lina clicked her tongue softly. "Let me to ask them, okay. I'll be right back."
Josh let out shaky breaths while he waited for Lina. He felt like he was going to die his heart hurt so bad.
"J?"
"Yeah?"
"I'll be over in less than ten."
Josh nodded but then realized she couldn't see him. "Okay. Thank you, Lina. You're such a good friend. I blew you off to go hang with Tyler and I'm still sorry about that."
"Is he what this is about?" Lina asked.
"What?" Josh sniffled.
"Is this why you're crying?"
Josh's lip wobbled as more tears rolled down his cheeks. "Yeah..."
"I'll be there soon."
"Thank you."
"Of course, Josh. You're my brother. One I actually like. I'm always going to be there for you."
Josh let out a sad laugh at that. "I'll see you soon."
"Bye, J."
Josh let her hang up before he started sobbing again. He didn't know heartbreak could be this bad. Tyler hadn't directly said he was dumping Josh but Josh knew it was coming.
Lina arrived shortly after and didn't even bother knocking. She had a key to his house. Besides, he was pretty sure Tyler hadn't locked the door on his way out.
As soon as she opened Josh's door (with Jim following) her face contorted into a look of sadness. "Josh..." she sighed.
Jim jumped on the bed and Josh hugged him tightly, Jim letting him do so. He felt Lina sit next to him and he rested his head on her shoulder, crying loudly. "It hurts, Lina."
"I know, nene. What happened?"
Josh told her everything she didn't already know. It was deja vu of everything he told his dad except he told her all of it. Even the haunted house thing. Tyler may not have done it but he came to Josh after. Maybe Lina would see something in the ordeal he didn't.
"It's that house. That fucking house, Lina. He hasn't been the same since he moved in there."
"My abuela used to tell me stories about that house before my ma told her to knock her shit off. She used to say El Diablo lived there."
"El Diablo?"
"The devil."
Josh looked at her with wide eyes. "No."
Lina gave him a confused look. "No what?"
"That stuff isn't real. It can't be. That can't be the reason why he's acting like this."
"Josh, what the hell are you talking about?"
Josh looked at her. "We used an ouija board at his house. I told him nothing would happen."
It was silent for a moment until Lina smacked him upside the head so hard he let out a small noise of pain and rubbed the spot. "Idiota! Of course that shit is real! Spirits and demons exist everywhere!" Lina put her head in her hands. "You are so fucking dumb."
Josh felt horrible. "I'm sorry," his lip began wobbling again.
Lina looked up and must've seen his eyes fill with tears again because she sighed. "I didn't mean that. It's okay. It's not your fault."
"Y-yes it is," Josh blubbered. "If I hadn't have persuaded him to try it out then..." Josh stopped. "Then what? What's wrong with him?"
Lina looked at him. "As crazy as this sounds. I think he's possessed."
Josh shook his head. "There's no way. That doesn't happen."
"Oh yes it does," Lina grabbed out her phone and went to Google. Josh saw her type 'signs of demonic possession' into the search bar. "See! The signs are all here! Antisocial behavior, angry outbursts, aggression, erased memories, personality changes. It all makes sense. Has he shown any of these other signs?"
Josh grabbed her phone and scanned the list. He swallowed. "Uh. Access to unknown knowledge. He knew about a dentist appointment I had without me telling him. Superhuman strength maybe. He knocked the basketball player into the wall pretty hard and Tyler's scrawny. Unexplained injuries. He had a gash on his arm. Self mutilation. He cut himself with a rock. Changes in voice. His has gotten deeper. Aversion to religion. Your necklace. Foul language. He started cussing. Unnatural sexual desires. He tried to have sex with me before he left."
When he looked up Lina looked like she was going to pass out. "Anything else?" She asked in a scared voice. This was coming from someone who rarely got scared.
Josh knew he sounded bonkers when he said his next words, but he said them anyway. "Piercing eyes. I thought I was seeing things but his eyes have glowed red. Twice. Once when he cut himself with a rock and once when he was going to hit me."
"Nothing else?"
"I'm going to sound crazy if I say this."
Lina let out a worried laugh. "We already sound crazy."
"When we went to the haunted house, he disappeared and I saw a rabbit. The rabbit just exploded. Nothing touched it and nothing happened. It just blew up. And Tyler wasn't around when it happened but now I think he did it. Supernatural powers."
Lina had a horrified look on her face. "Tyler definitely wasn't the one to do that. It was whatever the fuck is inside his body."
"What are we supposed to do?" Josh asked in a panicked voice. "I love him. We need to save him."
"We can go talk to my abuela after school. I'm not supposed to ask her about supernatural things anymore but she knows a ton about it and I think this is a situation where it's okay to ask for help. My parents just can't find out."
Josh was about to reply when his phone went off. He saw Maddy was calling and he sent Lina a worried look before answering. "Mads?"
"Josh!" Maddy breathed out. She sounded terrified. "I don't know what happened with Tyler when he was at your house but he just went into his room and locked the door. I heard glass hitting the wall and breaking. I don't know what to do."
"Keep Jay in your room and lock the door," Josh told her.
"I already did that. Gracie's with us too. What's wrong with him? What happened to my brother."
Josh glanced at Lina. "I need you to come somewhere with Lina and I tomorrow. We can explain everything but we need your help. Can you do it?"
"Anything to save Tyler."
