meet.

meeting in newt's POV

"I think he's the most powerful we've seen in a while."

"And I think he needs our help, take the car, go pick him up."

Newt's head snapped around as he heard Hank and the Professor talking outside his room. He instantly got off his bed and pressed his ear to the door.

"WICKED is on him right now," Hank said, his voice quivering slightly.

"That means we need to get to him fast, go I'll help from here."

Newt could hear footsteps then there was silence. He removed himself from sight as he slowly pushed his bedroom door open. A new mutant, they were going to pick up a new mutant and Newt was intrigued...or maybe he was just bored. Whatever it was, something pulled him out of his room and he slowly creeped down the hall, clicking the door shut behind him. No one could see him but sadly he didn't have noise cancelling powers too which in reality kinda sucked.

He went as fast as he dared down the hallway, internally cheering when he saw Hank. He followed closely behind him, being extra careful not to be heard.

He watched Hank grab the car keys, sighing hard as he pulled on his jacket and hurried out of the mansion. Newt slipped out the door before it closed, smiling as how well this was going so far. Hankie would never even know he'd been there.

When they got to the car, Hank opened the back door, tossing a bag into the backseat which Newt jumped in with. Hank slammed the door so fast it almost clipped his leg and Newt bit his lip to keep himself from gasping. He sat behind the driver's seat, making sure to keep to himself and not touch anything that would be noticable. He felt his heart racing slightly and the adrenaline in his blood. He hadn't been on a mission since...well since he was kicked off the X-Men and he was going stir crazy in the school. He, Minho and the girls could only play truth or dare so many times until it got boring.
Hank was driving faster than ever before. He assumed X was still in contact with him because at random times Hank would say "which way now?" then jerk the wheel harsly in a direction which almost sent Newt tumbling over the seat.

Newt knew they were close when he heard the screams. It was definitely a boy and it sounded so pained that it actually sent shivers down Newt's spine.

Hank slammed on the breaks so hard that Newt's face actually smashed against the back of the seat that time, thankfully Hank didn't notice.

When Newt looked out the window he realized why Hank didn't notice the small bump on the back of his seat, whatever was going on in the street was way more attention grabbing.

There was a stick skinny boy with a mess of dark brown hair standing in front of a heap of unmoving WICKED soldiers which actually wasn't even the creepy part, the creepy part was the way his veins seemingly ran black. Newt suddenly regretting coming, he wanted to be back in his room, not looking at this demon boy.

"Wait who-who's talkin?" the boy suddenly asked as he staggered towards the stop sign. Newt thought he was going to fall and when he caught a glimpse of his face he wanted to rush over and help him. He didn't look scary when his face was visible, he just looked fucking scared.

The boy smacked his temple. "Get out of my head whoever you are."

The boy's head rolled like it was weightless. He mumbled softly as he stumbled a bit. "I'm tired."

"Come on kid!" Hank spat quietly. He was probably about a hundred feet away, he just needed to keep walking before more WICKED-

There was a loud skidding noise as three trucks came tearing onto the street. Newt felt goosebumps raise on his arms as he saw the white letters WICKED printed on the side of the truck.

"I-I can't walk anymore sir, I-I'm gonna n-nap right h-here," the kid said as his eyelids started to close. His knees shook and he looked a second away from falling. Newt felt his hand go towards the handle of the door, he was about to run outside and grab the boy.

Suddenly the boy's body jerked and he was walking forward.

Hank reached over his seat, making Newt jump back, and grabbed the handle to throw the car door open.

"GET IN KID!' Hank screamed as the boy approached the car.

There were gunshots then, Newt flinched and curled back into the seat a bit. He saw a bullet hit the street and bounce off.

He practically fell into the car, flopping right across Newt's lap.

"Get the bloody hell off me idiot!" Newt grunted as he shoved the boy off and slammed the door shut.

The boy looked at him with a dopy expression and poked his cheek gently. "You're pretty."

Newt felt his face heat up as the car lurched and sped down the street. The gunshots were still littering the street but Hank was flying now, probably going around eighty in the small car.

"Newt?!" Hank screamed as he flew around a corner. "What the FUCK are you doing here?!"

"I wanted to see the new munie," Newt said sheepishly as he felt his face get even more red. The boy was watching him with such a dazed expression, it was freaking him out.

"You're in so much trouble!" Hank snapped as he turned roughly again.

"Shit," Newt said as he watched the boy's eyes roll back into his head and his body go limp. "Uh he passed out."

"Just take care of him!" Hank snapped. "I'm a little busy here!"

Newt poked the boy like he was a dead animal. He didn't flinch but his head rolled and hit the window which made Newt cringe. He gently pulled him so he was leaning against the head rest and nodded his head as if he was satisfied.

Something about the boy made Newt want to stay far away from him yet be close to him at the same time.
He looked at the boy's face, he had insane dark circles under his eyes and there was mud smeared across the side of his face. He wondered what kind of shit the boy had been through. Maybe he even could have been cute if he didn't look like he was two seconds away from being put in a casket.

When they got to the X-Mansion Hank yanked open the back door and scooped the boy up in his arms. Newt hurried after them.

"So did he really kill those WICKED soldiers?" Newt asked as he ran behind Hank.

Hank glared at him. "That's not really the concern right now."

They ran him right to the medical wing of the school. Newt wasn't even sure why he was still blindly following them, maybe because it was the most excitement he'd had in weeks.

"Why's Newt in here?" Was the first thing the professor asked as Hank carefully put the boy down in the bed.

"Snuck in the car, almost died."

The look the professor gave him made Newt cower back in fear. It wasn't his fault. The man was terrifying.

"I'm sorry," Newt squeaked out.

The professor just shook his head before focusing back on Thomas. Hank shooed him out of the room, shutting the door once Newt was in the hallway. He probably deserved to get kicked out but it wasn't his fault that he was curious.

—

"No! No FUCKING way!" Newt snapped at Hank who was shaking his head like he was talking to a child. No way was he going to show around the weird new kid, Thomas or whatever the fuck Hank said his name was, with the black veins and ability to murder masses without a scratch. No fucking way was he going to befriend that thing, whatever it was.

"You decided to sneak out, this is your punishment."

"No Hank! I'm not doing it! He can find the way around the place by himself!"

Hank sighed, throwing his hands up. "You're impossible. You're doing this or I'll have no choice but to expel you."

That shut Newt up. He couldn't get expelled. He was almost positive that Hank was bluffing, but he didn't wanna take the risk. If he got kicked out, he had no where else to go. Thomas was looking between them with a lost expression, it made Newt want to punch him.

Hank turned to Thomas and gave him a forced smile. "Do you remember Newt? Well he's going to show you around for the next couple days."

Newt let out a breath and rolled his eyes. His goal was to make Hank wish he never asked him to do this. "Yeah. Whatever."

"Newt!" Hank snapped.

Thomas frowned and Newt wanted to punch him again.

"What?" Newt snapped back. "You can't force me to like it!" Because he did. He didn't like it. Thomas was fucking scary and he wanted to be far away from him.

Hank pinched the bridge of his nose, letting out a breath. He did that when he was annoyed.

Newt snickered, mission success.

Hank put on the fakest smile and looked back at Thomas. "If you need anything, let me know." He glared at Newt one more time before rubbing his temples and sighing.

Newt couldn't stop the victorious smile from spreading across his face. He let out a long whistle as he watched Hank leave. "He's too easy."

"Why do you hate him so much?" Thomas asked suddenly. His voice sounded weird, like it was straining.

Newt made a face at him. Who did he think he was to ask him questions like that? Newt rolled his eyes and turned away. He started walking away from Thomas, he could follow him if he wanted to.

"Wait where are you go-"

Newt groaned loudly and turned around. "Come if you want but I'm not babysitting you." He wasn't sure why this boy made his blood boil so much but he wanted him to go away.

He started walking again but this time he heard Thomas' footsteps behind him. He walked until he got to the room Hank said was Thomas', maybe if he stuck him in there he'd get off his back.

Newt stopped walking and the idiot actually crashed into his back which of course infuriated him beyond belief.

He spun around and shoved the boy into the wall. "Stay off me would ya?!"

Thomas opened and closed his mouth like a fish. "I-I didn't mean t-"

Newt wanted him to stop talking so he waved his hand and shook his head. "Whatever greenie."

Thomas frowned again. Maybe he'd tell Hank he was having a horrible time and Newt would be let off the hook.

Newt pointed at the door. "There's your room."

Thomas' eyes widened like he was in shock. "I get a room?"

Newt rolled his eyes. "Home sweet home."

Thomas seemed to ignore him and walked slowly into the room. He seemed like he was scared to take each step. Bloody hell was this kid weird.

Newt leaned against the door frame as he watched Thomas run his hand across the bed comforter.

"This is all mine?"

"I already said it was yours."

The boy's face lit up like the shitty room was the best thing he'd ever received. For some reason it pissed Newt off, the kid could barely keep it together.

"Yo, what's wrong with you? Why, are you acting like a bloody Christmas?"

Thomas scooped up the blanket in his arms and pushed his face into it. He had this soft smile on his face as he touched the blanket and he got a weird feeling in his chest. At that moment he didn't look like a weird murdering mister machine. He looked like a normal boy and maybe he was kinda cute.

"I haven't have my own room in over ten years."

Newt felt pity strike him in the chest. Maybe Thomas had no one too. Maybe he was just as lost and alone as Newt was.

He watched Thomas flop back onto the bed, an expression of pure bliss in his face. He looked so utterly happy and kinda adorable it made Newt feel weird and he didn't want to be there.

"Can I leave now? I don't want to be here when you start jacking off to the paint on the walls."

"Where's your room?" Thomas asked as he sat up and looked at him.

"Unfortunately right next door, don't knock on my door. Ever. And don't come in. No ones allowed in my room, absolutely no one. Got it?"

Thomas looked like he wanted to yell at him but he just squeezed out an "I won't" in a small voice.

Newt left them, shutting the door hard behind him. He went back to his room, immediately laying down on the bed. Thomas was weird, he didn't want to show him around but at the same time he wanted to see him smile like he did when he picked up the blanket. Newt groaned and pulled his blanket over his face. The last time he saw someone smile like that was...well it was a long time ago.

The last person he saw smile like that was his sister Lizzy when it was snowing. It was snowing on the day she died.
