6: Prosperous yet mysterious ending
Kyungmi resides in the office peacefully as she fiddles with the pen between her fingers.
"Ill love story of your mother..." Kyungmi mutters, recalling her dream.
Her dreams were getting more detailed, giving her more information of her past.
Well she believes that it's supposed to be her past.
Prayers that it actually is, because the things is:
She wants to know more.
10:00 AM
The time indicates it's her break.
However, the lady dressed in a white polo shirt and black dress pants doesn't lose a second, taking out a heavy book from her bag.
"Korean Empire"
Skip skip skip. Skim skim skim.
And viola!
"Kim Dynasty... Overtook the Moons. This dynasty was dubbed as the most prosperous era, and the last empire before the 50 year silence," Kyungmi reads.
50 year silence? What is that? Kyungmi wonders.
Flip. Flip. Flip.
"Okay..." Kyungmi notes. "The reign of Emperor Kim Seokjoon, same name as Dad. Part of the 8th generation of Kims... and the last emperor—"
"TiMe tO eAt sNoWfLake!" A wild Jihye enters the office with some sandwiches at hand.
"After 5 minutes of observing that you aren't leaving this office, I knew you wouldn't be going to the cafeteria to grab a snack."
On cue, a stomach growling is heard throughout the room.
Shit... Kyumgmi curses. I didn't even eat breakfast earlier.
"My prediction is right," Jihye giggles, placing the sandwich on Kyungmi's desk. "Here you go, my daughter," she jokes. "You didn't eat breakfast didn't you?"
Oh, what can Kyungmi do without Jihye?
Kyungmi replies with an embarrassed smile.
"I'm going to take very good care of you and make sure to bring back that weight you los—"
BUZZZZZZ
"Is it your fiancé again?" Jihye grumbles, right before snatching Kyungmi's phone.
"Hello, sir? Yes, hello this is Jihye, and I am currently feeding your fiancée whom you failed to feed back in NYC. Did you see how much weight she lost? As her not-official-mother-that-is-not-officialy-incharge-of-taking-care-her, I am so disappointed. If it's about the project with BTS, it's going well and we won't be meeting them till next week because of busy schedules. Anything else? Thought so. Just call her after her breakkkkkkkkkk. Which is in 30 minutes," Jihye ends the call with a smile.
Kyungmi snickers, something only Jihye can elicit. "I can't believe you just did that."
"He's not... gonna fire me... right?" she mutters, making Kyungmi laugh.
"I'll make sure he doesn't." Kyungmi grins.
Silence and comfort settles in the room.
"Thanks," Kyungmi says. He's quite pushy these past days. Probably because I'm not with him. He says he misses me."
"Mhmm... Watcha reading?" The lady in her late twenties gets distracted, peeking in the book Kyungmi was reading.
"Emperor Kim Seokjoon..." Jihye read even before Kyungmi could speak. "Oh, the father of the magnificent four!"
Magnificent four? Kyungmi couldn't catch up. After all, ever since 6th grade, she studied abroad in America. Starting then, she didn't have any background information on Korean History.
"Kim Seokjin..." Jihye starts naming them. "Kim Namjoon... Kim Taehyung... Kim..."
There's a pause.
"Kyungmi."
"Would you look at that?" she mentions, eyes meeting Kyungmi's. "She has the same name as you!"
However, she realizes... and places two and two together.
"Do you think your dreams are on Princess Kyungmi? Wait no... Were you Princess Kyungmi?"
Another pause is in the room.
"No way!" Jihye couldn't believe her ears. However, Kyungmi is just so confused.
She couldn't understand why her unnie's reactions were like this.
What is it with these Kims?
"The children of Emperor Seokjoon were the last royal children before the 50 year silence. Their story has always been a mystery in Korea's history."
"What's with them? Why is it a mystery? What's the 50 year silence?" Kyungmi is filled with many questions.
"The 50 year silence was the period where nothing in history was written. Everything... Every letter, book, journal, writing is nowhere! Just so we know, it's already the republic with the people trashing imperialism and monarchy, going towards democracy and presidencies. What happened to the Kims is unknown up to date!"
Suddenly, Kyungmi recalls the visions she saw of her mother and father.
Her mother, stabbed. His father, a sword to his neck.
"You've had dreams of this didn't you," Jihye infers. How could a woman know her so well?
"The family of Emperor Seokjoon is the biggest mystery of the dynasty era! A prosperous era yet a mysterious ending. Historians would die to know this! Don't you know what this means? You can know what happened to them!"
Or perhaps... know what happened to me, Kyungmi hears a small voice in the back of her head.
From wanting to know why she kept seeing Jungkook dying, to discovering it has something to do with her dying as well...
One thing is for certain.
Something tragic happened.
New Message!
Jungkook: Hey, we should talk 😅
Jungkook: It's about the rock.
