The Girl Who Cried Wolf - 5 Seconds of Summer

"My mom's book club usually has more wine." Lydia said as we all circled the glass coffee table. The book and the print outs were neatly placed on it.

"Are we having wine? I have never tried wine. Is it good?" I asked happily, looking at her.

"You're not having wine." Scott frowned at me with his arms crossed.

"I bet you guys have drank wine before!" I scoffed.

"Well, they also probably didn't read books that cause violent hallucinations." Stiles ignored Scott's and I's little conversation.

"That's why Malia's here." Scott told us. Malia nodded.

"So none of us go running into traffic?" Kira asked.

"Or worse." Scott nodded.

"Like what happened to Judy." Malia spoke. I looked at her with question. Malia fiddled with her hands. "Chapter fourteen."

"Maybe I should have my mother read it." Lydia picked up the paperback book. "She might remember a girl with a tail leaping off the ceiling and attacking everyone."

"Yeah, if it works." Stiles inputted. I narrowed my eyes at him.

"You're going to be a Negative Nancy too?" Stiles squinted his eyes at me, Theo smiling and shaking his head.

"It has to." Lydia softly said, almost to a whisper.

"What does that mean?" questioned Scott.

"I think I saw them during my surgery. When I look at the cover. It's almost like..." Lydia trailed off, trying to think of the right word.

"A memory trying to surface." Theo said, looking at Lydia. Everyone turned to look at Theo.

"Yeah." Lydia mumbled, looking up from the book.

"That doesn't sound too good." I frowned, biting my lower lip.

"Isn't that what Valack wanted when he wrote it?" Kira asked. Malia nodded along to her question.

"If they did something to me, I want to know what it is." Lydia pursed her lip together and nodded.

"Anyone feel anything yet?" Scott asked. I looked up from my book, pinching the bridge of my nose. Thank gods he interrupted. My eyes were starting to burn and this is getting frustrating. I am still on chapter four. The words are blurring together and rearranging themselves. Why couldn't this be in Ancient Greek?

"Tired." Kira sighed, looking over at Scott.

"Hungry." Lydia mumbled, rubbing her eyebrow.

"Totally not liking this book." I grumbled out, throwing the print out onto my lap.

"I think he meant the book." Theo pointed out. I rolled my eyes.

"I'm going to go grab something to drink. Anybody want anything?" I offered, pushing myself off of the couch. Kira looked up at me and softly shook her head. Everyone who was still in the living room mumbled out a 'no'. I walked into the kitchen to see Stiles sitting down and rubbing his right shoulder. Malia was standing next to him.

"What did you do to your shoulder?" Malia asked. I made my way to the cupboard and grabbed a mug. I closed the door to the cupboard and walked over to the island.

"What are you talking about?" Stiles looked up at her. I started to pour the coffee into my cup.

"I can smell the blood." Malia said. I stopped pouring the coffee and looked over at Stiles. Blood? "What happened?"

"The jeep died on me again. I went to check the engine, the hood fell on it." Stiles replied. Malia narrowed her eyes at him. I looked between the two. What's going on? Stiles glanced up at Malia before he started to nervously tap his fingers against the countertop. Malia looked at me and pointed at the coffee pot. I handed it over to her. She grabbed the pot and poured herself a cup.

"Wait, so, how much?" Stiles crossed his arms on the island. "How much do you remember anyway? With the accident, did it play like a movie in your head or was it like being completely in it again?"

"In it." Malia nodded. I frowned. That doesn't sound fun.

"Was it just the crash? Nothing else?" Stiles questioned.

"Nothing." Malia shook her head. She glanced towards the living room, staring at someone. Being the nosey person I am, I leaned back to see who it was. Theo.

"What if we need some kind of trigger?" Scott suggested as we walked into the school. "Wasn't Malia driving when she remembered the crash?"

"Yeah, but how are we supposed to trigger a memory that we don't remember?" Stiles questioned.

"Maybe it's a delayed thing. Maybe you have to wait a couple of hours to see what happens." The lights in the hallway flickered above us. Scott, Stiles and I all looked over at Kira. She looked at the three of us with wide eyes.

"That wasn't me." She defended herself. "I swear."

"We keep an eye on each other today, okay?" Scott spoke.

"Yes, and keep an eye out for eight other potentially homicidal Chimeras." Stiles added, clapping his hands together.

"And keep an eye out for the Dread Doctors." Kira also inputted.

"What a fun day we got ahead of us." I threw my head back and released a groan. Scott glanced at me with a frown and placed a hand on Kira's back. The two walked off, leaving Stiles and I alone in the hallway.

"Starting to see the appeal of a third eye." Stiles said, placing his hands on his hips. I patted his shoulder, causing him to look at me.

"Me too buddy, me too."

"I don't know, dude." Brett said, the dude who was injured at the club, looked at Mason. The three of us were sitting in the bleachers watching Liam practice lacrosse. "Everyone at Devenford's pretty abnormal to me."

"All right. What else is there to look for?" Mason asked. "There's heightened strength, smell, hearing, speed."

"Uh, able to see in the dark." Brett added.

"Glowing eyes."

"Eyes that reflect the light."

"Oh! Luminous Tapetum." I nodded. The two boys looked over at me. "What? That's the reason for being able to see in the dark and reflecting light. I do have a brain."

"Visible scorpion stingers protruding out of limbs?" Mason shook his head and continued.

"Yeah. Or three foot lizard tails." Brett said. Mason chuckled. I looked back on the field, seeing Liam throw a lacrosse ball over the net. Liam made a face, disappoint written all over it. He twirled his stick and looked over at the Hayden girl he always talks about. She placed the soccer ball down onto the ground and kicked it. The ball soared in the air, hitting the net.

"Hey! That isn't how you kick a soccer ball!" I shot up. Liam looked over at me with wide eyes, rapidly shaking his head no. Brett let out a laugh.

"Nevah, sit down." Mason grabbed my arm and tugged me to sit.

"But she didn't even kick the ball correctly! How did she manage to score a goal like that?" I huffed out.

"You're a little ball of fire." Brett laughed out. "You're pretty cool."

"Why thank you." I grinned, flicking my hair over my shoulder. Mason and Brett laughed at my antics. Liam threw another ball into the lacrosse goal, the goalie not moving an inch for it. Liam cockily smiled at Hayden. I rolled my eyes. "Oh boy."

Hayden responded by making another goal, sending Liam a smile over her shoulder. The two went back and forth trying to outdo each other. That was until Liam threw the ball too hard and knocked over the goalie. I laughed, quickly covering my mouth.

"Sorry." Liam called out, jogging over to check up on him.

"What's up with those two?" Brett asked Mason, eyeing Liam and Hayden.

"Sixth grade. That's not the best year for Liam's anger management issues. There was uh, this fight in the hallways." Mason fished out his phone. "Liam and this other guy. Hayden sort of accidentally walked into it. And this is her yearbook photo." Mason showed us a picture of sixth grade Hayden. She was smiling with a bruised nose, a bandage on top of it.

"Ah, damn." Brett let out.

"Yeah."

"Ow, what did she do to him?" Mason swiped the screen. A boy with shaggy hair and a frown popped up. His nose was also bandaged and he had a black eye. We laughed at Liam's picture.

"Does anyone here have asthma?" Someone yelled as he ran onto the field. "Anyone got an inhaler?"

Liam mumbled something and sprinted off, heading into the locker room. I shot up to my feet. What's happening? I looked at Mason and Brett who both had worried faces.

"It's Scott." Brett looked up at me, his green eyes wide. I ran down the steps and followed after Liam into the locker room. I pulled open the door and entered the locker room. The scenery completely changed. I stopped, looking around. I was in my old house. The one back in Texas. When my mom was still alive.

"Nevah? Sweetheart, can you go check who is at the door?" My mom walked towards me. My breath got caught in my throat. My mom's dark brown eyes looked at me with confusion. My hands were shaking by my side. "Nevah, is everything okay? What's wrong?"

The doorbell echoed throughout our small house. My mom sighed and wiped her hands on her apron. She unlocked the door and opened it.

"Yes?" A lady stood at the door. She smirked at my mother. Oh gods. It's her. It's the monster who killed my mother. I glanced at the lady's legs to see the familiar green scales of a dracanae. My mother couldn't see it. She didn't have the Sight. She can't see through the Mist. She just sees a regular lady. "Can I help you?"

"Mom no!" I cried out. I tried to move forward, but I couldn't move. Why couldn't I move?

"Nevah? Sweetie, it's okay." My Mother softly said. She shook her head and looked back to the half-human, half-snake monster. "Sorry about her. She has social anxiety and doesn't really trust strangers."

"Oh, it'sss okay dear." The dracanae hissed sweetly. "Can I come in? I'm the new neighbor and I have a few questionsss about the neighborhood."

"Oh, of course!" My mother stepped to the side, allowing the dracanae to enter.

"Thank you." The dracanae smiled and slammed the door shut, locking it. My mother jumped back startled. "Now, let'sss talk about your daughter, okay?"

"Nevah." My mother walked backwards, pushing me behind her. "Go. Run!"

"Mom, no!" I protested, trying to protect my mother. I struggled against her grip. Why can't I get out of her grip? I should be able to do this in milliseconds. "She's going to kill you!"

"Nevah, go!" My mother ignored me. The dracanae slithered closer, pulling a sword from under her blazer. She raised her sword, the gleaming silver metal staring me in the eye. Oh gods. It wasn't celestial bronze. I felt my heart beat erratically.

"Daughter of Possseidon, I am here to kill you!" I screamed as the dracanae slashed her sword downward. My mother shoved me back. I stumbled backwards hitting the wall, and sliding down it. The deadly sword cut off her arm.

"Mom!" My mother screamed in agony as she clutched the area where her arm used to be.

"Nevah, run!" I shook my head with tears streaming down my face. The dracanae grinned, the blood stained sword pointed at my mother. She brought down the blade, cutting off her head. My mother's head rolled next to me feet. I screamed, covering my mouth.

"No, no, no." I cried. This can't be real. I can't be reliving this nightmare. By now, I was having trouble breathing. I'm on the brink of an anxiety attack.

"Daughter of the Sssea. Come meet your end." The Dracanae slithered closer to me. Her hands grabbed my shoulders and started to shake me. I screamed and thrashed around, trying to get out of her hold.

"Nevah!" A muffled voice screamed. I continued to scream and kick.

"No!" I yelled, kicking my legs hard. The dracanae let out a small groan. She tightened her hold on me. I need to escape. I need to run. Jumping up to my feet, I elbowed her in the face, a crunch following right after. I grabbed the dracanae's arm and tugged it behind her back. A loud popping noise followed by a howl of pain giving me a small sense of satisfaction.

"Nevah!" The voice sounded louder, less muffled. Tears were still streaming down my face as I pressed the dracanae's arm against her back. She let out a hiss.

"Nevah! Let go." Mason? "Nevah let Brett go."

Brett? What? I blinked my eyes rapidly and saw that I had Brett's arm pinned behind his back. I gasped and dropped his arm, walking backwards. Oh gods. I frantically looked around the area. Where am I? What happened? Where did the dracanae and my mom go?

"Nevah?" I looked up at Mason who was carefully making his way towards he. He had a hand extended out. "Are you okay? What happened?"

"I-she, oh gods." I stuttered out. My knees buckled and I fell onto the floor. New tears streamed down my face. "It was so real. It was so real."

"Hey, hey. You okay?" Brett kneeled down next to me, placing a comforting hand on my shoulder. I flinched, looking up at him. A bruise was covering his nose.

"Me? I should be asking you if you are okay. I dislocated your shoulder and broke your nose." I choked out.

"I'm a werewolf. I'm fine. See?" Brett held out his injured arm to see that it was no longer dislocated. "I'm fine. My nose is already healing."

"Nevah, do you want to talk about it?" Mason softly asked, sitting down next to me. I shook my head. I'm not reliving that ever again. He wrapped an arm around my shoulder and brought me closer to him. I placed my head on his shoulder. "Okay, it's okay."

"How did you know where I was? Or that I was having this flashback?" I swallowed. Mason looked over at Brett.

"I heard you screaming." Brett informed me. "I heard your heartbeat beat erratically. It sounded as if you were having a panic attack."

"I almost did." Loud footsteps echoed through the hall. Scott and Liam ran in, stopping when they saw us.

"What happened?"

"Are you okay? We heard Nevah screaming." I looked up at them.

"Flashback. It was a flashback."

"Are you going to be okay?" Scott asked me as we sat on the benches in the boy's locker room. Brett, Mason and Liam left awhile back.

"Yeah. Yeah, I'm fine now. Just shaken up." I breathed out. I turned to face him. "You? Are you okay?"

"Yeah. Yeah, just a little shaken up." Scott smiled at me, nudging me with his shoulder. I chuckled. Scott stared down at the inhaler in his hand.

"You gonna be okay?" I looked up to see Theo opening up a locker.

"I already asked him that a couple of seconds ago." I glared at him.

"I meant the both of you." Theo responded.

"Oh."

"Yeah. Um, I think it was just a memory hitting me. Us." Scott told Theo. "Psychosomatic thing. Did you want to talk about something?"

"No. It can wait." Theo shook his head. He closed his locker with his backpack and phone in his hand.

"No, no, it's okay. What's up?" Scott looked at him.

"Last night, you guys all fell asleep. I went upstairs to check on Kira. She was sleeping, but..." Theo sat next to me. I wrinkled my nose and scooted away from him.

"You heard her speaking Japanese." Wait, Kira spoke Japanese at the club. But the weird thing was that Kira never mentioned that she spoke that language.

"I didn't just hear it." Theo pressed a button on his phone. Static sounded off before Kira's voice started to sleepily mumble Japanese. The words sounded familiar.

"That's..." I looked wide eyed at Scott.

"That's what she said at the club." Scott finished for me.

"I found a website that can translate it. It means...roughly, 'I'm the messenger of death.'" Scott looked away in shock from Theo's words. "Does it get worse?"

"Please say no." I hoped.

"Ugh...yeah. Something is...something's happening to her. She's got this aura all around her. It's hard to explain." Scott struggled to put into words. "Well, I guess it's supposed to be part of her. But now it looks...differently. Almost like it's taking over. I don't know. Something's happening. And to be honest..."

"What?" Theo and I both asked. I squinted my eyes at him.

"I don't know if I could trust her anymore."

Wise words from Mason Hewitt...Intense.
