Confessions: Part 1

"Hold it...and done!" Emerson, the cheerleading photographer, holds up a thumb. It was a week after Robin's accident, but she sat perfectly content on Ace's shoulders, her ankle wrapped. She slowly slips down, careful not to put much pressure on her ankle.

"These are great! Thanks for your time." Robin watches as Emerson walks to her stuff.

"I know that look. Just go talk to her." Ace says.

"But what about you?" Robin turns to her friend. Ace waves it off.

"I've got to get back to the Tower. Working on a big project." Robin nods.

"Ok. I'll see you later." She watches as Ace runs off, then approaches Emerson.

"Hey, you're Robin, right?" Robin nods. "Emerson Rinehart. Sorry about what happened to your ankle."

"Nah, it's fine. Anyway, I see you like photography. I had a few tips for you, if you want them."

Peter sighs, flexing his numbed hand. The sophomores had been given a lot of homework and Peter just finished. His phone starts ringing and he picks it up. The number was blocked.

"Hello?"

"It this Peter Parker?" A man's voice answers.

"Yeah..."

"It's Tony. Sorry about the blocked number, but anyway, I need you to come to Stark Tower. Happy's on his way now."

"We'll add the counter tomorrow. Hopefully that'll fix the problem. I'll see you then." Ace says before shutting off Max. Both Max and his brother Axl were almost complete, but Ace still had to work out a few kinks. Putting up the tools, Ace leaves the two dog robots and heads upstairs.

"...with Ace here." Ace stops at her name. Listening, she hears three heartbeats in the room next to her. Two of them she's always identified as Steve and Tony, but the third...the third was her boyfriend. Curious, Ace sticks her head in. Sure enough, Peter sat talking to Steve and Tony. They all look up when she knocks on the door.

"Oh, Ace, didn't know you were there." Tony says as she walks in.

"It's fine. I just need to talk to Steve about something." Ace says. Steve nods and follows the girl. Outside, Steve turns to her.

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing's wrong, but...I want to tell Peter about me. The other me." Ace admits. Steve sighs in relief.

"You can, but let Tony and I finish with..." Suddenly, JARVIS comes online.

"Ms. Rogers, someone has gone into your lab. They seem to be taking a file." Ace gasps.

"My Autobot Project! JARVIS, where is he now?"

"He just left the building, heading toward 10th. I've identified him as Charlie Keaton." Steve places a hand on Ace's shoulder.

"Go."

Peter listens as the A.I. explains what was happening. He looks at Tony in question.

"We need that file." Tony looks at Peter. "Time to prove yourself, kid. Go get it."

Flying high, Ace scans the ground below. She spots her target and dives down. Charlie doesn't notice the huge eagle until he's swept up. Ace deposits the screaming man onto a roof and shifts back.

"Give it back, Charlie." She says, watching him from behind her mask. Charlie reaches for his gun, but Ace quickly disarms him, kicking his hand and catching the gun as it falls. She swiftly disassembles the gun, dropping the parts on the floor. "Now, the file."

"I'm sorry." Ace doesn't see the high-frequency whistle until a piercing pain erupts in her ears. She cries out as her head fills with pain. Next thing she knows, Charlie is standing over her, his foot pressed dangerously hard on her leg. "Like I said, I'm sorry." Ace screams as her leg snaps below the knee. She could already feel her suit disappearing as she fades into unconsciousness.

Peter spots Charlie. He's shocked to see him standing over a girl. Her dark hair was plastered over her face. Peter quickly picks up a trashcan.

"Hey, Charlie! Catch!" The man looks up in surprise, earning a trashcan hat. Peter quickly webs Charlie. "Nice try, but you're out." Peter grabs the file. "Classified" was stamped on the front. He hears a groan and turns, gasping. The girl was injured, her right leg in a weird angle. Carefully picking her up, Peter swings back to the Tower as fast as possible. Landing on the balcony, he rips his mask off.

"Mr. Stark, I need help!" He calls.

"Peter..." He looks down at his name. He gasps as the blue eyes he knows so well close once more.

"Ace?!"

Robin looks over at her phone as it rings. The contact said: Steve Rogers. She answers it.

"Hello?"

"Hi, Robin. It's Steve. I just wanted to let you know, Ace got in a fight and was injured. She won't be at school tomorrow, but she'll be fine. I just didn't want you to worry."

"Okay. Thanks, Mr. Rogers." No sooner had she hung up, her phone rings again. It was Peter.

"Hey, what's up?" She answers.

"Oh my gosh, Robin, I need you at Stark Tower. Ace got injured rally bad. Her leg broke. They won't let me see her. I'm really worried." Peter answers rapidly, breathing heavily.

"Peter, it's okay, calm down. I'm on my way."

~~ ~~ ~~

"...and her bone was sticking out and there was so much blood!" Robin grabs the hyperventilating Peter.

"Peter, calm down. She's going to be fine." Robin says.

"But her leg..."

"Will be healed before tomorrow. Peter, Ace is the Shifter." Peter gasps. "Now calm down. Her cells regenerate quickly. She'll be okay."

Groaning, Ace opens her heavy eyes. She sees that she's back in her room at Stark Tower, an IV drip in her arm. She spots Steve by the door.

"How are you feeling?" Steve asks.

"Like a bulldozer ran me over." She says. "I had the weirdest dream. Peter brought me back here then found out I'm the Shifter..." She trails off when she feels a movement to her right and spots a flash of red and blue. Peter lay next to her, asleep and still in his suit. His head lay on his right arm, his left holding her hand. Ace turns back to Steve with wide eyes.

"It wasn't a dream."
