I knew where they kept the machine.
The glass doors slid easily with a kind of slight whoosh that rung in the air before I strode in to the all white laboratory, carrying Three in one arm and raising my gun in the other as I approached the startled scientists in their sickening pale lab coats.
"Agent One- what are you- what are you doing!?" A balding one panicked, clutching onto the metal table behind him in fear as I kept my weapon aimed at his head.
I nodded over at the new machine they were working on.
"Tell me how it works," I instructed in a threatening voice, stepping forward and pressing the barrel of the gun against the man's sweaty forehead as I made sure the little girl was kept securely in my arm.
"Now."
The little girl had wires strapped to her head, temples, and the exposed skin of her arms, her breathing slow as I stepped over the dead bodies of the scientists I had shot, my shoes stained from their pools of blood on the tiled floor before I went over to the numerous dials and buttons that controlled the machine she was attached to.
I slowly turned one of the dials, starting the machine just like the scientists had informed.
First phase was the erasing of her memory.
I slid one of the buttons up, moving it higher over the panel slowly.
Second phase was the input of color for her sight.
I turned another dial with a concentrated expression, eyes darting from the buttons to her unconscious body on the metal table.
Third and last phase was the draining of all emotions and feelings from her.
My eyes skimmed over the panel, making sure to ignore that dial.
I waited, hearing the machine, watching the little girl's body as I silently urged the process to go faster under my limited time.
Just as I began to study her brain activity from the screen in front of me another little voice screamed through the room.
"Anděl! Anděl!" Four came running in, the little boy crying and rushing towards Three in urgency only for me to quickly get in his way.
His cries began to grow louder and louder with desperation as I blocked him, hearing him yell in Czech at me, attempting to hit me with his tiny fists as I placed my large hand over his forehead, effortlessly keeping him in place.
"Ty ji bolí! Nech ji jít! Ty bolí anděla!" (You're hurting her! Let her go! You're hurting my angel!) Four shrieked in fear, relentlessly pelting me with his fists as I heard the sound of rushed footsteps and shouts through the hallways.
Reaching for my gun with my free hand I shot the keypad near the door, sparks flying from the bullet I had left in it as I heard the doors automatically shut close before anyone could come in, giving me enough time while the annoying little boy continued to try and attack me.
I pushed him away, not too hard but hard enough for him to go stumbling back to the floor, taking advantage of the opportunity to turn to Three who was still laying unconscious on the table as I quickly unhooked the wires off her skin, dettaching her small body from the machine before scooping her into my arms.
I had no idea if the process had even finished but all I knew is that I needed to get her out of here.
Escaping this place wasn't a problem, I knew this facility in and out and I could leave anytime I wanted to.
I just never had the motivation or reason to until now.
"Come with us." I snapped at Four who was still on the ground, wiping at his tears.
People were banging on the doors now, trying to get in making me flicker my gaze to the barrier before looking back over at the boy, extending my hand out for his, knowing he would understand that gesture.
"Come with us." I repeated slowly this time, my voice and face both calm as my green eyes met his brown ones.
His fearful gaze flickered to my outstretched hand then back up to my face before cowering back and shaking his head until he trained his attention on my arms.
I glanced down to see what he was looking at, finding Three's eyes open, staring blankly at Four, blinking at him with his slack jaw and flushed cheeks before she slowly looked up at me with an unreadable expression.
"Green..." She mumbled to herself, looking into my eyes as my jaw tightened before her eyes slowly fluttered back close, slipping back to an unconscious state as I stared down at her.
I didn't have time to react when the doors of the lab suddenly broke open, the glass breaking as bullets were fired through the air causing both Four and I to crouch to the ground, my hand immediatly going over Three's head, keeping her small body close to mine before I turned and left, heading for the exit without looking back.
I had left with the girl that night, driving away with her sleeping and strapped in the back seat of my car as I sped far, far away from the base and in no way planning to return ever again.
"You owe me." I stated in a firm tone when I had arrived to the agency office that I knew would be safe for Three.
Vincent looked at me before glancing back at the little girl who was still passed out on the couch of his office behind my body as I towered over his dark, cherry wood desk.
"You know my organization doesn't take in children. That's a bit sick isn't it." He noted, leaning back in his leather seat, taking a drag of his cigar and raising a bushy brow at the girl as I maintained a straight face.
"Exactly why I came here. She's already been trained and when she's older she'll be a valuable agent for tou if she already isn't one right now. Assign her to protection cases only and I promise you she will keep every client you give her completely safe. In return for her service, I want you to provide her shelter, food, and friends." I requested, my words sounding more like a demand as I leaned my palms over his desk while he flickered his gaze back to me.
"Friends," Vincent mused with a pointed look my way, making me grit my teeth in frustration at the fact that he had caught that.
"It's not me. I don't know. She works better with friends or to have someone with her that she can annoy." I quickly cover up, managing to glance back and stare at her tiny sleeping figure before turning back to him.
"Sure, I'll take the kid in. You know this is a family business so you'll have to discuss this as well with my son who will be taking over quite soon actually -but I'm sure he'll comply with whatever you say. I mean after you saved his life and all it's like every word you say is sacred." Vincent chuckled, the cigar between his big teeth as he grinned while I tried not to release a sigh of relief at his acceptance.
I had supposedly saved his kid on one of my missions.
His son had been involved with some bad men, men I was ordered to kill and I of course did.
I had grabbed the kid, putting his body in front of mine during open fire only to realize he was too scrawny to use as a shield so I shoved him to the floor away from the bullets and grabbed another, more thicker body to block the shots instead while I fired my own gun.
I didn't say anything though.
It was the reason why Vincent owed me and I knew he had a clean organization that Three would be better
off in.
An organization that wouldn't torture her and give her enough choices that she could go and decide whatever she wanted to do with the rest of her life.
"So, what's the gem's name?" Vincent's voice bring my attention back to him as I blink at him with a blank look.
"Three."
"That's not a name, that's a number." He laughed out with a light hearted grin as I watched him with a bored expression.
"Not my problem." I said in a clipped tone, feeling the sudden urge to create as much distance between the little girl and I now that we were out of that facility and safe as I turned to leave.
"Where you going boy? You come here and give me a super genius little assassin and you're not going to stay by her side and watch her grow? Not like you age anyhow." He chided, the crinkles forming by his eyes as I stopped to give him a look, slightly irritated at the fact that he called me 'boy' as the irony dawned upon me.
"I brought her safely here and that's it. I will have nothing to do with her from here on out." I told him in a dettached tone, flickering my gaze over at her on the sofa for a brief moment.
Especially when she's older.
I will stay far, far away no matter what.
"Well, I'll keep you updated on her then." Vincent decided, making me snap my sharp glare to him in irritation as he innocently smiled, avoiding my gaze and looking at an ugly picture frame hanging on the wall besides him.
"No, you won't." I growled with impatience.
"Mmmmm... but I will..." Vincent trailed off in a childish, high pitched voice as I inhaled slowly.
With balled up fists I headed for the door, trying to leave before I shot him in the head, only to bump into his tiny son.
He was twenty four but still looked like a young, prepubescent teen as he gazed up at me in awe while I eyed him with an emotionless face.
Can't believe this was the boy who was going to take over.
"You will take care of that girl, understand." I placed one hand on his shoulder, my grip tight with a hidden threat as I locked my intense gaze with his wide eyed one before pointing over at the sleeping child.
He nodded, jaw slack as he looked between me and the kid.
"By all means, if I was to ever come back which I am not planning on doing, you will do everything it takes to keep me and her apart. Am I clear?" My words were chilling low and I made sure to pronounce every syllable slowly in my gruff voice as he nodded again.
"Yes Agent One." Angelo all but squealed, smiling up at me as I took my hand off his boney shoulder, giving him one last look to make sure he was really serious before I moved passed him, taking out a cig and tucking it between my pierced lips before lowering my head to light it.
"I-it was nice seeing you again Agent One! Thanks again for- for saving my life." Angelo yelled out towards me, his excited voice cracking as I paused on my tracks, stopping and taking the burning cigarrette out of my mouth as I blew the smoke out from lips.
I turned to look at him over my shoulder, bringing the cig back to my lips.
"It's Harry."

"No, it's Zen."
