Chapter One

I guess the biggest mistake I ever made was turning my back on the body. Okay, that makes it sound like I'm a murderer. Let me just back it up, okay?

I was sitting down on a park bench, but I couldn't remember how I got there. I tried to get up, but my leg was chained to it. I could only go about four feet away from the bench, which gave me the space and time to see that the ground was made of rust red dirt. There was only one planet this cold, and this red. How on Pluto did I get to Mars? I turned around, only to be faced with empty nothingness.. I looked around, seeing that I was surrounded by the inky abyss. I had a knife in my hand, covered in silver blood. I recognized it to be the blood of someone from the Jupiter colony. It was freezing cold, but I was used to it anyway. "Vex.." I spun around at the sound of my name. A boy, about my age, stood there. He looked like someone I should know, but I didn't recognize him.. He had white hair, pale skin, and red eyes. His clothes were dark grey, allowing them to be barely visible against the black atmosphere. A silver stain grew on his shirt, and he fell to the ground, dead I presume.. My heart rate quickened. Here's where my mistake comes to play. I turned around, and moments after I did, I felt a hand cover my mouth, and metal press against my neck.

I jolted awake, nearly falling off my bed. I'd been having that dream for days, but I still couldn't make any sense of it.. I pushed off my heavy blanket, I was already sweating. I climbed down my ladder, shivering as my feet touched the cold wooden floor. The window was left open, as usual. I really needed to keep that shut, it just made the room that much colder. "Stupid planet.. Being far from the sun.." I muttered to myself, shutting the window. I looked at the clock on my wall, and according to it, it was morning now. Pluto can get extremely cold.. All the time. And you can't tell what time it is, so everyone has watches. That's right, I live on Pluto. It's been thousands of years since the planets were all colonized, get over it! I walked out of my room, not bothering with the stairs, and deactivating the gravity of my dome for a minute to jump down. I quickly activated it again, landing on the couch in my living room. Luckily, my Dad is on a business trip to Venus, so I can do what I want. It's not that he's an irresponsible parent, it's that he has full trust in me to not destroy the dome while he's away. I grabbed a left over sandwich from the fridge, which was just baloney and cheese. I'm not a really good cook, that's one thing you should know about me. I started eating, which was interrupted by the sound of a bell.
