The Next Day
My eyes fluttered open, and I saw the pouring rain outside streaming down my bedroom window.
The weather outside looked about as gloomy as my mood.
I sat up on my bed, and rubbed my tired eyes. I didn't get any sleep because I cried my eyes out the entire night. I didn't do any of my homework. Instead, I went up to my room, sat on my bed, and cried a river.
This time, Dad wasn't there to come in my room and cheer me up.
I rose up from my bed, walked over to the bathroom, and shut the bathroom door. I looked in the mirror and saw that my eyes were red and puffy from crying so much. I untied my hair tie that was holding up my ponytail, and my brown hair fell over my shoulders. I picked up the hairbrush, brushed my hair, and then set my hair brush back down on the table.
I stared at my reflection for a while. How did Issac think I was beautiful? Why did he think that?
I looked at my Trach, and one question lingered in my mind:
Why didn't Issac ask me about my Trach?
After I finish brushing my teeth, I walk out of the bathroom and went downstairs. I picked up my backpack that was lying on the kitchen table. I walked out of the door, and walked towards the bus station.
Once I got to the bus station, I stood waiting for the bus. I saw someone walking towards me. Once the person got closer, I saw that it was Issac. He smiled when he saw it was me, but his smile disappeared when he looked into my puffy red eyes.
"What's wrong? Have you been crying?," he asked. His beautiful big blue eyes were full of concern and worry.
I wanted to tell him, but I didn't want to cry again. I didn't want Issac to see my vulnerable side.
"Nothing's wrong. I'm fine," I said in almost a whisper. I avoided looking into his eyes.
I shifted my weight from side to side, waiting for Issac to say something.
"You're obviously lying. You know what? You don't have to tell me. Can I just hug you?," he asked.
I nodded my head, and Issac wrapped his arms around me. I immediately started sobbing. Issac rocked me from side to side in his arms. He held me tighter, and he kissed the top of my head. I felt warm in his embrace.
When he let go, I suddenly felt cold as the rain came down oh my shoulders. Issac was like a warm blanket in the wintertime. I wanted him wrapped around me always.
He wiped the tears that were rolling down my cheeks, and he kissed me very softly on the lips.
He pulled away from the kiss.
"I don't know what happened, but I'm sure it's going to be okay. I promise you it's going to be okay. You don't have to go through this alone. I will be here for you," Issac said while caressing my face.
My lips curled up in a smile. Issac smiled too and put his hand in mine. He gave it a gentle squeeze.
The bus pulled up, and Issac and I walked onto it.
Neither of us said anything the whole ride. We just sat by each other holding hands.
When we arrived at our school, we got off the bus and we still were holding hands.
People starred at us like they couldn't believe a guy like Issac would be with a girl like me. I couldn't believe it either.
I couldn't believe it.
