Chapter 18: Amanda
Come on, Amanda, don't get lazy, I forced myself to sit up in bed, my eyes feeling like they were glued shut. I had barely gotten any sleep the previous night, thinking about our imminent escape and what we would do next.
"Amanda? Are you in there?" Megan knocked on the door.
"Yeah, I'm coming," I replied, trying not sound like I had just woken up. I quickly got dressed and pulled my hair into a quick ponytail. Giving my raven locks a distasteful glance, I sighed to myself. I really had to consider cutting or dyeing my hair soon. Long, wavy black hair was the trademark of the Icehearts.
"What is it, Megan?" I asked, stepping out into the hall where my friend and assistant waited for me.
"It's 6:00, we should probably start driving," she shrugged.
"True," I nodded. "We're really close, just an hour or two and we'll be at the ideal location for exit. We need to be there early just in case it takes a while to figure out. None of us have any experience with exiting thirty first century programs."
"Jade! Calvin!" Megan yelled, and the other two Government members rushed over. "Go get everyone up, we need to get moving."
"Okay!" Jade said cheerily, and the two of them were off to the other RV's.
"Your turn to drive, Megan," I gestured to the front of the RV and Megan grudgingly walked up to the driver's seat. Finally, it was my turn to relax.
I occupied myself for about half an hour by going through old CT's between me and my friends from back when I was growing up on Lessaenes. Ah, the memories...
Soon, I looked up to see a blindingly white doorway hovering in the sky directly above us. It was surrounded by the most complex Code I had seen in my entire life. Without the Northern Lights covering it up, it was even more beautiful.
"It's the exit!" I exclaimed. "It's much closer than I thought it would be. Megan, stop!" I yelled, and she obeyed, pulling over into a random parking lot and screeching to a halt. The other RV's followed suit.
Pulling out my walkie-talkie, I instructed the Division leaders to get everyone out. Soon, WGO was assembled outside the RV's.
"Okay, everyone, I'm going to test this out first. We have no idea how it's going to work," I told my organization, making sure to let my eyes linger on Claire a little longer than everyone else. My way of reassuring the Princess.
Stepping towards the exit, I tentatively held my arm out. A coil of Code shot out of the sky, wrapping itself around my arm and beginning to pull me up into the air! Surprisingly, it didn't hurt at all. When I was about six feet up in the air, I heard a deep, angry voice behind me.
"Stop!"
"Dad?" Claire asked confusedly. Turning around, I saw Henry and Lucia King along with more of the Glitches' fake parents and several police cars. And Claire's father was pointing a gun straight at my face.
"Game's over, Amanda," Henry King sneered. "You're under arrest!" Yelled a police officer. He walked towards me with a pair of handcuffs, and I easily twisted his arm behind his back and sent a burst of Aura into his spine, causing him to collapse to the ground. Two more policemen ran up to me with tasers, but I knocked them out with my Aura. Henry King's eyes widened with fear, he had lost his protection.
"What do you want?" I spat.
"I'm here to rescue my children!" He proclaimed. "And I'll do it if I die trying!"
"I'm not the enemy!" I shook my head vigorously. "We're on the same side here! You don't understand!"
"Claire! Justin! Megan! Come on!" Henry King yelled.
"She's right, Dad," Claire scowled. "We're trying to save the world here. Stop getting in our way! Besides, you're not even my real dad anyway. My real dad's King Fenorel, and he's dead."
"I warned you about this, but did you listen? No! I told you she'd brainwash you!"
"As if you know anything about Amanda! You're not even real!"
"You're coming back home, Claire," Claire's dad growled. "Whether you like it or not." And with that, he raised his gun. "I spent so much time tracking you and getting the police involved. I'm not giving up now."
"I heard the crack of a gunshot and winced, yet, I felt no pain. Henry King grew still and fell to the ground, the blood from the wound in his head staining the snow red.
Behind him was someone else, still pointing the gun she had just fired. Someone I hadn't seen in a very long time.
"Ashley Solace!?" My jaw dropped as the rest of the Glitches' parents filed into their cars, desperate to get away.
"That's right, Amanda," my predecessor smirked. "Remember me? Thought you killed me, didn't you, you little witch! I've been waiting for this moment for years! Im going to tell everyone what you did now! They're going to shun you forever! And, Vince here can stand for my credibility." She pointed to the Codie.
No, no, no! Everything was falling apart! Not now! Not when we were so close!
"Ashley, we have to work together on this! We're working against something so strong, we'll stand absolutely no chance if we separate like this!"
"I'm not buying anything you say ever again," Ashley snarled.
"Members of WGO, it's me, Ashley Solace. Surely at least most of you remember me from a few years ago," Ashley began. "I'm here to tell you that Amanda Myers isn't who she says she is. She's a killer. She killed my boyfriend and my best friend, and she almost killed me. Do you really trust someone like her to be our President?"
"Yeah, Ashley's telling the truth," Vince nodded.
"No! Vince!" Justin hissed, making his way over to his friend. "Amanda's good. Trust me on this one, please. There's so much about this whole situation you don't know about."
Thank goodness Claire decided to bring him along.
"What? Justin?" Vince turned around.
"It's true, Amanda used to be the worst of our problems, but not anymore. Now, we have a much bigger enemy to face, and we have to do it together," Claire stepped up to my side. "Sure, she's made some mistakes in the past, but haven't we all? She's the best leader we could hope for now. Much better than this selfish Ashley person who seems to just want all the power for herself, at least."
"Killing four people isn't a mistake you can forgive," Megan said with a glare.
"Please, let's just get out of this Program first. Then, we can figure all of this out," I begged. "There are worse things than me that are after us!"
I was interrupted by an ear piercing shriek. Everyone simultaneously whipped around, to see Jade with a glowing blue Aural knife, stabbing Lauren. She gasped before falling to the ground, dead.
Jade turned around, flashing an inhuman grin. Her cropped blonde hair fell over her shoulder, revealing the very familiar blue glittery tattoo on the back of her neck. She was a Code.
