After the event, Lelouch and Kallen head back to Ashford Academy for studying. Ohgi was recently going back to Japan for some reason. The Black Knights were being charged by Tohdoh who went joining the organization because he believes Lelouch will change the world alongside the GDI then he will be temporarily leader when Zero wasn't here. The Four Holy Swords have also joined Black Knights only to follow Tohdoh as their leader. The GDI gives them a tour of military structures except for tech lab and how they can be operated on the battlefield. They demonstrate the advanced firepowers to the Black Knights which they are amazed at the arsenal and then they show them harvest zone where they gather sakuradite crystals that were planted and harvest to the refinery. It becomes the most popular industry in the GDI. Rakshata was incredibly amazing about gathering sakuradite so fast. Diethard interviewing the GDI personnel to ask questions about the details.

While the GDI preparing the army, they have secretly built a floating nation in the south of Australia for the Tiber-human to establish a new home and become a colonial independent nation. It was almost finish constructed once they liberate Japan soon.

Altai border gate, GDI territory, Russia

At outside the fortress gate, 2 bunkers are stationed and 2 watchtowers and 2 EMP cannons are protecting the border from euro-britannian forces. The riflemen and missile soldiers were doing some duty when EMP cannons detected something and fires at the distance. The infantry forces got to their attention and headed forward to see what they have found something. As they arrive there, they see 4 unknown Knightmare figures different from Euro-Britannian.

Missile soldier: What the hell are those?

Rifleman: I don't know. But I want to know what are they doing here.

He said as he raised his rifle at the unknown Knightmare. Then, the first Knightmare in front of them opens a cockpit as GDI infantry forces pointing their guns at them until it revealed to be a European girl wearing a blue military uniform.

One of them is master sergeant as he said to her while pointing his rifle at her.

Rifleman sergeant master: Identify yourself.

Leila: Please, don't shoot. I am Leila Malcal, commander of the WZERO from United Republic of Europia. I need a refuge for my people.

In the response, he ordered his men to low down their weapons to see they are not euro-britannian forces.

Rifleman sergeant master: The EU What are you doing here?

Leila: Like I said, refuge, sir. Our headquarter is under attacked and taken by unknown group that aren't part of euro-britannian. Please, we come here this so far.

He thinks of his decision and then he replied.

Rifleman sergeant master: Alright then, I'll take you guys in. But we have to detain you until my superior officer say so.

Leila: I understand. We will do as you say.

Henry was standing at the window watching the view. He recalls his thoughts about C.C explaining a supernatural power called Geass.

Flashback

Henry: Geass?

C.C: Yes. Geass is a supernatural ability which certain people can bestow upon others. It is manifest differently in each individual, possibly related to their inner desires and personality. The power of Geass increases with use, and should the user lack the willpower, they may be consumed.

Henry: Like what? Become lost people's mind and become dangerous.

C.C: Correct. I have a power of geass to bestow those who are worthy and be part of my contract. For instance, I give Lelouch a geass to use for something useful to defeat his enemy.

Henry: Lelouch has one of those magic stuff? Then what type of geass is it?

C.C: What I'm understand is he has geass that can take people's mind and do any command he wants when make an eye contact to another person.

Henry: Jesus Christ... What about you? Anything else than giving powers to anyone?

C.C: I am immortal. I don't die so easily but I can still feel a pain. A lot of it, actually. Is there anything else you need to know?

Henry: No. That will be all. However, I have to keep an eye for him if he will do something mischief.

C.C: It depends on your action. Now, have a good day.

Flashback Ended

Henry can't get off his thoughts on the mind about geass and other stuff. He went back to his desk and turns on the computer. He make a journal knowing about Geass and other stuff. After he making a journal, his AI appeared and said to him.

EVA: Sir, Ms. White has arrived.

Henry: Good. Bring her here.

EVA: Understood.

Henry was sitting on the chair waiting for her to arrive in this room. The door opens to see Ms. White has arrived as she walks toward him and then he said.

Henry: Ahh... Ms. White. A pleasant to meet you. How are you anyway?

Emily: Fine. Thanks to you, my economy becomes greater than before. With enough sakuradites for resources, the military will increasingly the army and we will build more homes and businesses for my people.

Henry: I like to hear it. So, you want a drink?

Emily: *Chuckles* You sure know how make a drink for a lady.

Henry: Oh, don't flatter it. I was being a gentleman. So, shall we discuss about business?

Suzaku come back to Ashford Academy from GDI base to attending the class then he meet Lelouch that he was about to entering the school.

Suzaku: Hey! Lelouch!

Lelouch: Hm?

Suzaku: What's up? You know, we're gonna hold you back, if you don't start coming to class.

Lelouch: I could say the same about you, right?

Suzaku: Uh... I have work to do. It just that the Black Knights and unknown terrorist group have really been on the move lately.

Lelouch: Hey, I thought you were in the engineering.

Suzaku: Uh... we're shorthanded, so they move me around.

Lelouch: Hmm... Still, how about dropping by for dinner more often? Nunnally misses you. Are you free this evening?

Suzaku: Yeah, I could come tonight. But are you sure it's okay? I don't want to cause any trouble-

He was interrupted when Rivalz drove his motorcycle and parking it as he get out of the vehicle and shouted at him.

Rivalz: Hey, Lelouch!

Lelouch: What's wrong?

Rivalz: I hear that the president's out doing a blind date thing again!

Lelouch: Yeah. Today.

Rivalz: Today?! Why didn't you tell me about it?!

Lelouch: Because it'd make you cry.

Rivalz: Boys don't cry!

Suzaku: It's okay. I didn't know about it either.

Rivalz: Don't give me your emo routine!

He shouted.

Suzaku: Emo?

Lelouch: I guess compassion is not in fashion these days. So anyways, are we on for dinner tonight with Nunnally?

Suzaku: Sure.

Then Lelouch ran off somewhere else.

Suzaku: Wait! What about school?

Lelouch: Don't worry, I'll be right back! I'm just gonna go tell her about it!

He keep running until he goes to his sister dorm.

Rivalz: My life is over and he's worried about dinner.

Suzaku looks at him like he know his secret. He had change since on that day at Henry's office room.

Flashback

Suzaku was completely shocked as Henry told him about Zero identity.

Suzaku: N-No... It can't be...

Henry: It's true. We have seen his face. A former prince who becomes a masked revolutionary leader to do whatever it takes to destroy Britannia Empire.

Suzaku: But why? Why he would create a group that would destroys the system that people try to live in?

Henry: It isn't obvious? The Holy Britannian Empire have many crimes they committed unpunished. Not only for that, their own father put exile on them to your country, Mr. Kururugi. You have become so idealistic to believe you can change from within it. But a sad truth is, it will never change as the emperor will dominate the world. Now, I have an order for you.

Suzaku: And what's that?

Henry: Keep an eye on him. I have feeling that someone wanted to take him down for good. Is that understood?

Suzaku: Yes sir. I'll do my best.

Henry: Good. Dismissed.

Suzaku shakes it off and headed to the school.

Nunnally was making a blue origami when she heard the door open and what believe to be Sayoko.

Nunnally: My classes don't start 'till second period.

But something is not right for her. She heard clapping at near the door. A person is not other than Mao as he make a smirk on his face doing something to do her.

Milly went to the GDI territory at eastern Australia in her first time by riding her personal transport, which have secretly hidden from the public to avoid unwanted guest in enemy territory. She went to the tech lab where Llyod was working on the computer then he make a surprise to see her coming here. She take a seat beside him and Lloyd just said.

Llyod: How convenient you are.

Milly: Um.

Llyod: They make you their spy to look out someone very important at school. Now that is something I've never known.

Milly: Yeah. I suppose that's true, but I'd heard you were very unique person, Lord Asplund.

Llyod: Please, Calling me 'Lord' is unsuitable in Global Defense Initiative. They aren't like being monarchy.

Milly: Oh, yeah. I have thought of that.

Llyod: Also, unique. What a delightfully artful way to put it!

Milly: I'm surprised you're interested in a girl from the downgraded Ashford family after it lost its rank.

Llyod: Oh ho, but I couldn't careless about a loss of rank, especially that the GDI don't care you were a member of noble family.

Milly: They are from different world which is more futuristic than our world. But anyway, I see that you are switching side.

Llyod: Well, of course! Seeing how futuristic technology they used in Tiberium war, I'm quite few understand only. And it is remarkable to try understand at all. But tell me, what is your plan?

Milly: My plan?

Llyod: Well, the GDI and the allies are going to invade Japan in two days to reclaim for the Japanese or Alter-Japanese to the GDI.

Milly: Two days!?

Cecile: Excuse me.

She came to the room holding a plate of  tea and place it on the table.

Milly: I'm sorry to trouble you.

Cecile: Not at all. Take your time.

Llyod: No need for that. But anyway, you should be ready when the invasion is started.

Cecile: Um, shouldn't we not tell her? She isn't suppose to know it.

Llyod: That's fine. She is a spy of the GDI they recruited her.

Cecile: Huh? Really?!

Milly: Hehehe...

She covered mouth with her hands for awkward moment.

Lelouch enters his sister room as he said.

Lelouch: Nunnally! Suzaku's gonna-

He paused. There's no sign of Nunnally just only a number of origamis surrounding a picturen of Nunnally being tied up on her own wheelchair. Seeing a picture of his sister, he become angry of whoever kidnap her then he get a phone from ringing and answering it.

Lelouch: Yes?

Nunnally (on phone): Lelouch!

Lelouch: Nunnally?! Where are you right now?!

Nunnally (on phone): I don't know, but I can't move.

Lelouch: Nunnally!

Mao (on phone): It's me, Lulu.

Lelouch was shocked to recognize that voice.

Lelouch: No! It can't be!

Mao (on phone): You just dropped your guard, Lelouch. Just 'cause you thought  you can forget me?

Lelouch: Mao, listen. C.C isn't here right now.

Mao (on phone): I know. That's why I came. Someone immune to my Geass would be troublesome now. I'll save my encounter with her later. So I'm going to kidnap someone you love the most.

Lelouch: How did you-

Mao (on phone): A certain people told me. Now there's no time for explain. It's time to play my game.

Lelouch: You're somewhere within 500 meters of me.

Mao (on phone): Correct. Want to try and find me?

Lelouch ran out of the room and find him everywhere in the school.

Mao (on phone): Oh, by the way, since the game is just between you and me, no calling Black Knights to the rescue. I have meet these people who have know about your secrets better than anyone else and they help me for sure. The reason why I didn't reappear myself is because they give me a good ideas to do something for you instead of C.C. But anyway, you'll never find her because you never focus on finding me and now look what happened now! Your sister is in a bind! What a quandary! What a quagmire! What a crunch!

Lelouch: Nunnally has nothing to do with this!

At underneath the circulation system, Nunnally was tied up on the wheelchair and she said to him.

Nunnally: It's not a very nice way to play a game, you know...

Mao: Hmm?

Nunnally: If you do something to make my brother sad, I'll never forgive you!

Mao: Hahahaha! What a pair of you are! I love this brother-sister thing. Now anyway, enjoy comfort there because I'm headed out. See ya!

He walks out the circulation system and headed to the chapel. He pick up a phone to receive call from someone.

Lady Death (on phone): Hey. Did you work?

Mao: Yes! Of course, it worked! Do you think my idea will fail.

Lady Death (on phone): Just remember, you crush his spirit, C.C have no choice but to show up and give in, and she will be yours. Got it?

Mao: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I got it. Besides, I'm not part of your fanatical genocide organization. I only wanted C.C. That's it.

He turns off his phone and heading the chapel where he will be waiting for him to find this place.

Lelouch keep running through the corridors when he enters the room to see his friends here.

Rivalz: Hey, Lelouch! Can you tell us what's wrong with you and Shirley? You two haven't talk so much.

Lelouch: Huh? What?

He look around like nothing happened.

Rivalz: Just talk to her to make her feel better.

Suzaku: And what about classes? You'd better go to-

Lelouch: Excuse me. Oh, and I'll talk to you later about dinner.

He said as he walk away the room. Suzaku feel something about him so he went investigate. Meanwhile, Lelouch is in the hallway as he received call from Mao again.

Mao (on earpiece): Lulu, if you do a handstand for searching for me, I'll extend your time limit an hour.

Mao calls off the phone from him.

Lelouch (thoughts): He anticipated this. He wants to see me squirm. But what do I do? He must be within 500 meters if he's reading my mind, but...

Suzaku: Lelouch!

Lelouch saw Suzaku coming and put it into his pocket but he accidentally drop a picture and try picking it up when Suzaku notice the picture of Nunnally.

Suzaku: That's... I thought so. Something's happened to Nunnally.

Ohgi was walking on the street to enter the safe house. What he didn't know is two GDI agents disguised as civilians follow him in behind.

GDI agent 1: I got my eyes on him. Proceed in caution. We don't wanna him know we're follow him.

Ohgi got to the place as he unlocked the door and enter it. Before the door was about to close, the agents sent out insect drone as it reached to the door before it closed.

The agents went hiding at the alley as they look at the tablet to see the video from inside the room then they heard the conversation.

??? (audio): Welcome back.

Ohgi (audio): Uh, uh... R-right.

??? (audio): Good timing. The meal's almost ready.

An insect drone look at the person who was talking to Ohgi.

GDI agent 1: Scan the face.

The insect drone is scanning on the woman face and identifying about her.

GDI agent 2: I see... So that girl Ohgi was hiding...

GDI agent 1: Is a britannian.

GDI agent 2: Not only that, but she is part of Purist Faction. A group of pure Britannian agency.

GDI agent 1: We should report this to supreme commander.

GDI agent 2: Right!

...

Both boys are outside the school to find any clues leading to Nunnally.

Suzaku: Who kidnapped Nunnally? It can't be a Britannian or someone from the royal family.

Lelouch: No, this has nothing to donwith our blood line. Just a psychopath who wants to keep a girl all to himself.

Suzaku: So, is he threatening you?

Lelouch: Yes. An investigation could reveal who we are. That's why I can't go to the army or the police.

Suzaku: Then there's no choice. We'll have to do it on our own. This isn't about your gambling though, is it?

Lelouch: It has nothing to do with that.

Suzaku: Okay. Do you have any leads?

Lelouch: Just this photo. And I know that he's somewhere very close by, watching me.

Then his realization came to his mind.

Lelouch: And now that I think of it, I heard the sound of running water too!

Suzaku: Water... The circulation system!

Lelouch: The lower levels?

Lelouch tries to insert his card into a machine but it didn't work so well.

Suzaku: Something's still off though.

Lelouch: What?

Suzaku: Normally, you'd home in right on that. What's is it?

Lelouch: He changed the codes. We'll have to hack into the system.

He break the machine and try to hack the system.

Suzaku: But... that's against school rules.

Lelouch: I'll change it back later.

Suzaku: Then let me do it.

He successfully hacking the system as the elevator opens.

Lelouch: Too late. I got it.

They both enters the elevator and went down to the lower levels.

Suzaku: That was fast. You're a little too good at that.

Lelouch: The student council has partial access to these areas.

Suzaku: Lelouch, I see. This is how you've been getting off campus, isn't it? Your little escape route.

Lelouch: Uh yeah, sometimes.

As the elevator reach to the lower level, they both feel notice something is not right so they went to the each sides once the elevator door opens.

Lelouch: How's it look?

Suzaku use a small piece of a mirror to look at the reflection to see a ceiling turret in front of the elevator.

Suzaku: You were right. The door's guarded. There's a machine gun linked to the security camera. The lag on these systems is tight: 0.05 seconds.

Lelouch: That means we can't access it this way. We'll head back up abd disable the-

He was to make a plan when Suzaku wents in.

Lelouch: W-Wait!

A ceiling turret open fire as Suzaku used zigzag tactic to dodge the bullets then he ran up on the wall and swing kick at ceiling turret. He landed on the floor after he took out a turret. Lelouch was surprised of his move.

Lelouch: Of all the reckless move.

Suzaku: Come on, let's go. Nunnally's waiting for us.

Without a delay, they both headed to the circulation system where they found Nunnally there.

Lelouch & Suzaku: Nunnally!

Nunnally: Lelouch and Suzaku, is that you?

Lelouch: I'm so sorry! I'll cut you loose!

Suzaku: Wait! Wait! Up there!

He stopped Lelouch from reaching her as he pointing a finger at it. Lelouch saw of what appears to be a bomb, tangling around on above her.

Lelouch: A bomb.

Then he got a call from Mao.

Mao (on earpiece): That's right, Lulu. I'll play along since Kururugi came on his own. Can't wait to see how you two deal with this!

He ended the call.

Suzaku: Nunnally, we're going to defuse the bomb. It's okay. Don't worry. Lelouch and I can do anything together. You know thatz

Nunnally: Oh. That's right.

Lelouch look up at the bomb as he said.

Lelouch: It's motion sensitive. A solenoid inside supplies energy that keep it constantly moving. If an external force interferes with the motion, then the bomb-

Suzaku: Explodes. Moving Nunnally even an inch will trigger it. That's the way it's set up.

Lelouch: Can you calculate its range?

Suzaku: It'd wipe out everything within five or six hundred meters, minimum.

Lelouch (thoughts): Now what? We're beyond the reach of his Geass... Is he trying to mislead me?

Suzaku: You think you know how to disarm it?

Lelouch: Theoretically. The power line to the detonator would need to be severed. Since he's not a pro of this, I'm sure I could figure out which lines are dummies. Still, we need to find another way to do it.

Suzaku: Why? If we choose the right one...

Lelouch: Because you'd have to cut the line without disrupting the motion; which is impossible.

Suzaku: I'll do it. There's no choice.

Lelouch: No, Suzaku! We don't have enough information to pull it off!

Suzaku: There's a time limit here; we can't afford to play it safe. As for information, it's staring you right to the face. I'm a soldier, Lelouch. Can't you use that information?

Lelouch don't know if he can able to cut a right wire without disrupting the motion. But, his sister life is depending on it so he said after his choice.

Lelouch: Okay. I believe in you.

On top of the rooftop of the building, Lady Death looking at the academy using a binoculars. Heretic shadow goes to her from behind as he said.

Heretic shadow: Ma'am, uh, permission to speak.

Lady Death: You may.

Heretic shadow: Shall we intervene? We could take out both of them and find C.C for him.

Lady Death: No. We're not intervene his plan. Besides, I'm no use to him anymore.

Heretic shadow: Really?

Lady Death: Yes. It was under direct order from Grandmaster Elder himself.

Heretic shadow: I see... then there's no need for asking.

Lady Death: At least you're understanding so that's a good thing.

Lelouch walking toward a chapel where Mao is waiting for him. He enters a chapel to see Mao is here and he did is clapping to him.

Mao: Well, if it isn't Casanova! No weapons, no strategy. You didn't defuse the bomb, didn't deploy the Black Knights or your friend. What's wrong, Lulu?

Lelouch: I'm not explaining anything to you. The game– is it ready?

Mao: Hmm, let's put an end to this...

He pulled a sheet to revealing a chess board.

Mao: With your specialty.

Lelouch have to take a chances in order to save his sister so he goes to his game and be ready to start. Before it started, Mao explains the rules.

Mao: What you see the scale is the bomb detonator and its cancellation switch. The chess pieces we capture will go here.

He placr his chess piece to the scale as it goes to the left side.

Mao: If the needle swings all the way towards me, the bomb goes off. If it strings towards you, the bomb will be disarmed. In short, if you win the game, your sister's life will be saved.

Lelouch: Your mind is twisted. No wonder C.C left you.

Mao: Provoking me won't work. I can read your thought, so I know what you're trying to do.

Meanwhile, Suzaku was on the top to figure out which wire is a right one to cut it to save Nunnally's life. He waiting for a right moment.

Mao took few of Lelouch chess pieces and throws it to the scale as it reaching to the left side to red point.

Mao: I'm afraid you're not the type of person who can keep your mind empty. There's the part of you that's a critic, constantly watching your own moves. And there's another part that's an observer watching the critic– watching you. You're that kind of person. But I know all your thoughts, so I'm always a step ahead. You can't win.

He took another Lelouch chess piece and toss it to the scale. Lelouch was a bit panicked because he cannot win the game with his mind reading on him.

Mao: Bravo! Your plan is to think of seven things at once to confuse me and trip me up! But you see, if I focus my Geass directly on you, it's easy to tell which one is your true thought.

Mao took out another piece causing Lelouch grew more worried.

Mao: Ah, your last plan is failing as well. You underestimated me, that's why your sister is gonna die.

He toss a chess piece to the scale. Lelouch don't know what to do since Mao is winning the game so far.

Mao: "What do I do? I'm out of strategies. I can't call for backup as long as Nunnally is being held hostage."

He pulled out a shiny gold coin and drop it on te floor.

Mao: Sorry, sorry, I dropped it.

He went to pick it up while Lelouch just standing doing nothing to win the game. After he picking itnup, he clap his hand to snap him out.

Mao: Your turn. Better hurry.

Lelouch was trying to find a right chess piece to start. But he feel shaking to his body making it so nervous.

Mao: Looky, looky, time is running out. Your little sister's not going to make it.

Lelouch got a chess piece as Mao just said.

Mao: Ah, is that the right move? Are you sure you wanna do that?

Lelouch: Isn't this enough?

Mao: Huh?

Lelouch: Please stop it, Mao.

Mao: I can't hear you very well.

Lelouch: You've gotten everything you wanted! Let Nunnally go!

He shouted. He admitted that he can't win the game.

Mao: Huh?

Lelouch: I admit it... you have beaten me.

Hearing his words makes him happy as he laughed and clapping his hand to the air so enjoyable. He was so happy that he admitted he cannot win the game.

Mao: Very well said! You're finally speaking the thoughts from the deepest part of your soul, huh? That feels great! Fantastic! But no.

Unfortunately, it didn't end there as Mao pick up his chess piece and ate black king chess piece, causing Lelouch wide open.

Mao: This is... checkmate.

On a horrible moment for Lelouch, Mao toss a chess piece into the scale and it has reach the red point.

Lelouch: NO!!!

He shouted as he fell to the ground shamelessly to fail to save his sister's life.

Lelouch: Nunnally...

Mao: Hmm, let me see if she's burst into little pieces.

He pulled out a phone and look to see Nunnally is turn into the pieces. Unfortunately, she wasn't blown up into the pieces. She is still alive like the bomb hasn't triggered and Mao was shocked to see her still in one piece.

Mao: Huh? Ah?! What the? What?! Why is she-

Suddenly, a window was breaking through as Suzaku appears out of nowhere.

Mao: How did you?! You kept me focused on you!

Suzaku gets in the chapel as Mao is open fire at him. Suzaku dodge the bullets and punch him to the face then he kick a pistol away and said to him.

Suzaku: I am Warrant Officer Suzaku Kururugi of the Britannian military, and you are under arrest.

Lelouch: Suzaku...

Mao: You disarmed the bomb?! Impossible! You'd have to match your speed to the pendulum!

Suzaku: That's right. After Lelouch showed me which line to cut.

Lelouch: I showed you?

Suzaku: What are you saying? It was your plan: cut the line then burst in here when I heard your scream.

Lelouch: My plan?

Then he came to realized that Suzaku was right. He pulled out an earpiece and look at the reflection as he use his own Geass on him.

Lelouch: Mao, it seems like it's my checkmate.

Mao: Lelouch, don't tell me that you-

Lelouch (thoughs): Yes. I gave Suzaku his instructions then used Geass on myself to forget so you couldn't find out.

Mao was shocked that he tricked him.

Lelouch (thoughts): You believe that if you know a person's thoughts you know everything. That's why you narrowed your range and focused your all power on my mind. That was your mistake.

Mao: That's ridiculous! You bet everything on one friend?! What if he'd failed you?!

Lelouch (thought): Good point. To execute this plan, I had to trust Suzaku completely.

Suzaku call on his phone as he said.

Suzaku: Sayoko, everything's fine now. Right, go ahead.

...

Sayoko arrived as she cut off the ropes on her.

Nunnally: Sayoko?

Sayoko: I'll have you free in a second.

...

Lelouch feel confident as he have won this game against him.

Mao: You think you beat me, huh?!

Suzaku: Stop it!

He tried to hold him down when he just said.

Mao: Get your hands off of me, father killer!

Suzaku became wide open like he was figure it easily. Lelouch is shocked that he called his best friend a father killer. Mao explained.

Mao: You killed your own father 7 years ago. Humph. He called for do-or-die resistance, and you thought stopping him would end the war. That's fact is, you're a murderer!

Suzaku: That's not true! I just! I-

Mao: How lucky for you that no one ever found outt. All the adults lied to protect you.

Lelouch can't believe of what he just heard from him.

Lelouch: But all the reports said his suicide was a protest against the military action.

Mao: A big, fat lie. All of it.

Lelouch: A lie...

Suzaku: I didn't have any choice! If I didn't, Japan would have-
