Two days later...
Thick rubber sheathed wheels spun tremendously faster than turbine blades. Wind roared at its cruellest octave, sounding highly deafening. A clear note glimmered in the sky, featuring puffy white clouds shaped as cotton candies.
"Player 5 is on the lead. Look at that speed, wow!" screamed a voice through the commentary amplifier.
Race tracks radiated spotless with only a white line running across the clean asphalt. Racing bikes groomed on their boosts, producing a sour pitch of grumbling noise. All the participants struggled with their handlebars and velocity for surpassing the fierce one who was already celebrating a win-win situation.
"Go, go, V! You can do this! Talk to the wind!" cheered Suho from the
gallery, waving to his friend as he crossed the checkpoint for the second time.
"Shouldn't you quiet down a bit? We're only sponsoring our garage. It sounds weird I guess," you spat at his recurring howls.
"Aish, look at you. Are you trying to be ungrateful by any chance? Don't be! After all, he did help you with money. You owe him a meal," Suho explained softly.
"Alright," you yelled, "I know I owe him. If I hadn't been in this condition, I would have snapped his money on his face long back. I didn't ask for help from that intr- I mean uninteresting person," you gulped, uneasiness washing your movements.
"You mean it?"
"Hell yeah! Do I look like I would lie for such a crucial topic?"
"Hmm, let's talk to him today about your debts then, when this event ends."
"Huh? Today? Why? I never asked you to do such a thing! I'm broken, how am I supposed to pay him back?"
"None of my business. It's just that you shouldn't keep someone waiting for long, you know," he winked casually, giving a soft leer.
"Waiting for long my ass. It hasn't even been a month yaah! Tell me you're joking right now if you're my friend."
"What do you think? Miss Apricot?" he chuckled, trying to restore his sniggers.
"I knew it and don't you dare call me by that name in the public. I like apricots but that doesn't mean I need to be called by such lousy names. So there! Shut up already!"
"Fine, what a talkative radio. Let me change the topic then. Do you think he would win today?"
"Why should I bother over such a thing when I'm having proved gains anyway? I don't care if he wins or loses," you spoke at one breath although you felt a wide pang of tension in your heart out of nowhere for the ongoing hustle on the tracks. "This jerk is everywhere,' you thought to yourself. However, something, somewhere was forcing you not to stop thinking about the rider on his wheels today.
Kim Taehyung POV
Gale snapped at the end part of the mullet that peeped out of his black glossy helmet. His sharp gaze kept shifting between the racing tracks and rear-view mirrors. The pointer needle dragged itself smoothly across the dial of the speedometer, impelling the lips of the racer to grab a huge smile.
"I can do this. Kim Taehyung can do this," he chanted to himself, rotating the steering handles as once he flipped his head back to check on the others.
He was fetching the speed but it looked like speed was chasing him more. Wild exhilaration streamed through his blood vessels. Wind anticipated, wheels grazed, leaves rattled on the branches of the trees, surrounding the tracks. It was so close to the finishing line when fate took an unexpected turn. Spurts of petroleum oozed out of the fuel tank and his whirling speed paused its chase. A blank flush painted Taehyung's face when he lost almost all his control over the two-wheelers, making him panic and choke as he imbalanced on his paddock. A red light tailed the vehicle's back and it crashed onto a pillar. One great fall for Taehyung indeed. He splashed up with a jerk, landing at a few yards from the upturned bike over the begrimed run off area. The rest of the participants fluttered dust at his direction as they zoomed out for the finishing line, overtaking Taehyung's helpless body.
"Holy shit! What the!" Suho cried before springing up from his seat. He checked out of his place, soon followed by you. You never knew why you ran behind him, perhaps because you felt an unknown inclination although it might also be out of sympathy. The gallery wooed at the uncertain accident, subsequently, the commentary announced, "Player 5 had an unfortunate elimination."
Taehyung alighted his gloved fists on the ground as he sucked his own breaths. His marks of frustration hit another level, his chest heaved up and down in regret. Fishing his head out of the headgear he gazed at the far distance where all the participants gathered by finishing their routes.
"V! What happened to you? Are you alright?" Suho delivered all his questions at once.
"Who checked my Tiger today?"
An untold boom punched your sound self on hearing the latest query.
"It was Y/N. Why?"
Taehyung darted his orbs as sharp as needle, boring his visions to scan you. You stuttered at his dark stares, "B-but there weren't any faults in your vehicle. It was checked by Beomgyu too."
Taehyung cracked his knuckles while flexing his neck. He jolted up on his feet and started commencing towards you, gradually so that you got the time to think over what could happen to you next, yet, your brain never responded to your calls and now was also not an exception.
"Yah!" you blurted out, "You-you, stop right there! I said I didn't do anything other than washing your bike, I mean Tiger!"
Not another word escaped his mouth until he pinned you to a nearby wall. His sharp gaze never left your terrified face. You tried your little best to tear your eyes away or to block your visions by dropping your eyelids but you could not do so. His brawny desirable glares seemed to bore through your soul once you broke the miserable eye contact.
"Hey, slow down. Go easy on her. She isn't lying!" Suho protested, feeling a sense of rebellion in Taehyung.
"Don't worry," finally Taehyung spoke. "And you Miss Song Y/N, you think I care about this tournament? Poor you, I only wanted the money allotted as the winning prize." He playfully nudged your head, the devious smirk never vacated his lips.
"That's the reason why you and your greedy ass never succeeds. You are a wholesome sinner!"
And you could not afford to capture a second to regret till a wide hand enclasped around your throat. Your eyes appeared to pop out of their sockets as you dropped your jaw in extreme consternation.
"What the fuck did you just say? Do you know who I am? Do you even have any idea what can happen to you next?" Taehyung's hot breaths tended to bleach your toned physiognomy.
"V! Leave her, please. Sh-she-"
"Shut up Suho. I didn't ask for any explanations, because this lady here needs to be taught a lesson now. She thinks she can yell at anyone and everyone. But baby, you got to learn how to hold on, alright?" His grip shrunk around your neck and you felt the urge to breathe deeper.
"I-I am so-sorry, aah!" you grappled with his arms to let go.
"I know you don't mean it. If you don't mean it, then don't say as well." He pulled you in and slumped your head back harshly on the concrete behind you. Grizzly pain shot through your brain cells as you hissed at the inappropriate action. Grasping your skull in between your hands, you crouched down on the soil, tears sprang in your eyes.
"Hey! Why did you do that?" Suho raised as a matter of protest.
"Repair my Tiger by tomorrow morning. I'll come and fetch it by 11," Taehyung said while walking across the tracks to the exit.
You were forced to open your orbs and saw him tracing this path.
"Trash, absolute trash! The boy with a black heart!" you snivelled whereas Suho worked on consoling you repeatedly. But none of his words seemed to affect you by any means. Maybe it was because of the one who just left, providing a reddened patch snaked on your neck.
The competition had just begun.
