Your flawless barrier is me
Only if you let your eyes feel my trough
Expunge your infirmity and hold me tight
Let me be the armour to shield your heart in mine

"Thank you, ma'am. Please visit us again."

You stepped out through the glass door of the pharmacy, your little purse resting against your hip. It swayed gently as you walked, making your way slowly toward the road. By now, the traffic had mostly vanished—the clock hands had already swept past eleven, inching toward midnight.

In your left hand was the plastic bag holding the hormonal vaccines for your dear grandmother. She was waiting at home, half-asleep when you'd locked the front door behind you.

Half an hour had passed, and yet there you were, lingering on the empty pavement. You stood obediently at the signal, waiting for the light to turn red, even though the street was deserted. Rules were rules, and you’d rather endure the chill of the night than break one.

Your mother had reminded you countless times to grab the medicines on your way back from work. But your memory often betrayed you, and tonight was no exception. You’d jogged out into the quiet streets to ensure you were prepared for any nocturnal emergencies.

In earlier months, it had been easier—if you forgot, your parents would handle it. But now, it was just you and your ailing grandmother. The responsibility was yours alone, and there was no one else to share it.

Sometimes it was even worse—finding the local pharmacy closed meant trudging all the way to the next one. Tonight, at least, luck was on your side. The medicines had been procured without extra hassle.

Above you, the sky bristled with thick clouds, threatening snowfall. As if the arctic chill wasn’t enough, the wind conspired to bite at your skin. You pulled your soft, full-sleeved cardigan closer as the gusts whipped through your open hair and fluttered your skirt.

You pressed your clothes down, shivering as you approached the edge of the road. The signal finally turned red. Though the city was hushed, the roar of a distant sports bike broke the silence. It zoomed toward you, making a sharp turn onto your street.

Your eyes widened at the jarring noise. Just as you were about to step onto the asphalt, the bike sped past, nearly brushing you. The rush of air made your skirt fly up, and you stumbled back in shock.

The rider glanced back at you for a brief moment, his smirk etched with audacity. You quickly tugged your skirt down and yelled, "Hey, you pervert! Watch where you're going! Get your eyes checked!"

But your words fell into the void. He was already gone, swallowed by the night before you could blink again.

Moments later, the wail of sirens echoed down the street as four police cars tore after him, their lights painting the walls in red and blue.

"Whoa! Looks like he’s some kind of criminal!" you gasped, your heart pounding. Without a second thought, you clutched your bag tighter and hurried home, leaving the chaotic scene behind.
