-Part 3-
Aaron is gone now. He and Clyde were inseparably but there's an empty space where he used to be.
Clyde no longer smiled, he could no longer sleep, could no longer listen, could no longer eat. Could no longer cry.......
"... 124, If you agree, you will take on a face. You will become human so that you can save the child."
And so I became human.
-
I became human for him. For Clyde. So he could remember what is was like to live. Here in this town, I became Aaron.
- (Third person) -
Walking causally through the town, Aaron held a piece of paper, written on it was the address of his destination. The atmosphere here was completely different to what he was used too. The town was located at the edge of the large cyber city he worked in. A wide lake stood in between them. It was an isolated place where mostly wealthy people lived. It was less noisy and calm, not to mention it was a perfect walking distance from the cyber city.
It had only seemed like yesterday that he was first working at TMH care center. The environment there was so different to the outside world. Everyone was organised and on time, they're life's contorted by a schedule. You must be doing this at this time and be here at this time. It seemed like he was always busy. Well you'd guess it be pretty normal considering he was a robot.
He'd taken care of many patients in need of some help and advice, always coming and going in the same rotation. Taking care of the old that stayed there and helping his human co-workers out if needed. Not once did he care that he looked uniquely different to them. There were other robots too which helped. He felt like he had a place locked inside the walls of the care centre, a place where he belonged. Now he had a face, a name and a mission. To help Clyde find his way to live again.
Aaron had reached the neighbourhood of which his next pateint lived. It was a small narrow street. The houses tightly close together letting through a small gap between them, large enough for a car to drive through.
Glancing up and down, he noticed just how posh everything looked. The houses were two storey and had a nice modern tone to them, their gardens looking like they were tamed by angels. It was peaceful, no kids running up and down the street, just fancy cars parked to the side of the road.
He turned into the drive way of Clyde's house. It was wide with tinted black glass walls fencing around the front of the housr. The front porch was covered by a white steel roof, two large marble pillar holding it up. Its marble floor made Aaron's heels click as he made his way towards the front door. The door was carved graciously with wooden detailing. It was simple and white with a few starches.
Aaron knocked a few times but there was no answer. He tried the golden handle. To his surprise it was unlocked. Carefully he twisted it and pushed the door open and looked inside. It was dark, the only light seeping through was those from the windows. Aaron could tell the place was clean and was taken care of. Maybe they had maids.
"Hello is anyone there!" he called out as he step inside. He felt the cold air inside through his robotic senses, the house was large and spacious, making it seem empty.
He closed the door behind, shutting behind the soft nosie of the outside birds as they had began to chirp they're morning song. The door closed with a soft click and the first thing Aaron could hear was the faint sound of music.
"Hello?" he called out again. No reply. He steedied himself and focus his ears on the sound. It was coming from upstairs. Silently he found the grand stair case that led to a slight curve halfway. He carefully climbed up the steps still focusing on the sound. He follow until he found himself in a dim hallway.
As Aaron neared the sound, it lead him to a slide door, located right at the end of the hallway. The sound clearly audible now. It was a soft voice singing along to the strumming of guitar strings. Aaron sat down quietly as he listened to the words.
🎶 But lovers always come and lovers always go, And no one's really sure who's letting go today........ Walking away. 🎶
From the voice's tone, you could tell it belonged to a male, a teenager perhaps. His voice was smooth and clear yet it rolled out in sorrowful waves. Aaron had a haunting feeling that his voice was brought out by pure pain.
🎶If we could take the time to lay it on the line, I could rest my head just knowing that you were mine........ All mine.🎶
🎶 So if you want to love me, then darling don't refrain. Or I'll just end up walking, in the cold November rain......... Do you need some-. 🎶
Aaron was cut off from his thoughts as the soothing voice suddenly came to unexpected stop. A long silence being drawn out. Aaron sat there still and waited for a while.
"Who are you?" a soft voice from inside spoke. It sounded sad.
Aaron almost jumped at the sudden break of silence. He gathered him self up to reply.
"I'm from the care centre, they should have told you I was coming. If not sorry for the surprise." Aaron stuttered out.
"I don't care where you came from, I didn't ask for a replacement. I didn't ask for a robotic Aaron." This was confirmation that it was Clyde behind the door.
"I came to help, at times like this it can be difficult."
"Just leave...... Please." there was much sadness behind his voice.
Aaron let out a sigh, "I understand." he reached inside he pocket and pulled out a single piece of paper.
"One thing though, can you look this over. I need a signature before I can go."
There was no response.
"I'll just leave it here then. Oh here's a pen too."
Aaron began to stand back up after placing the paper and pen in front of the door.
"Guess I'll come back later then." he said mostly to himself. At that moment he thought he heard a growl from behind the door.
"Seems like someones hungry." he thought and let out a sigh.
He walked back down the steps and into a wide hallway. He examined the walls until he found the light switch. He placed his fingers over it and flicked it down. Light. He could see much more now. At the end of the hall he could see a large space. He walked down and turned around a bit till he found the kitchen. It was large as expected and marble all over. The high ceiling had a golden chandelier attached to it which provided a pretty soft light when Aaron switched it on. And so he got to work.
Pulling out pans and the right essentials, he forced himself to find the strength to make something delightful and delicious. He turned the stove on and cracked a few eggs into the hot pan. He began chopping and stirring. Adding ingredients together. What felt like a good 40 minutes of hard work, he felt that he was pleased with the end result. He placed the few plates onto a silver tray he found and headed back up stairs to where Clyde would be.
He knelted back down in front of the slide door and placed his creation down in front of him. Aaron saw that the paper was signed, he placed it back into his pocket as well as the pen. After he stared at his work. On the tray was a bowl of fried rice, a bowl of salad filled with all kinds of fruits and vegetables he could find, some toast and a glass of cold milk along with the silver cluttery.
"You must be hungry." Aaron began to say towards the door.
"I've never really done this before, cooked I mean. So it may not be exactly perfect."
Yet again no reply.
"I'm going but I'll leave the tray out here for you. I hope you'll have some at least." Aaron stood up, dusting himself off.
"I'll be back again tomorrow, good-bye until then."
