You sighed for what seemed like the 5th time in the past hour. You were completely bummed that you didn't have anyone to spend time with. With moments like these, you would usually go to the local clone bar to relax.
You left your apartment and out the building to go to 79s. You always had a sense of security when you were around the clones. You knew about the war and immediately felt bad for the troopers since they couldn't have normal lives. But overall, you were grateful for them being there to protect people who didn't know about it.
Lost in thought, you hadn't realized that you were standing outside of the bar. You shook your head and walked inside seeing various clones scattered about. Some were wearing blue, some were wearing orange, while some just had unpainted armor. You looked at a pair wearing, you think a double shoulder pauldron and a kama. One with a 5 on his temple looked like he was teasing the one with a blue handprint on the chest plate.
You smiled at their brotherly love and sighed sadly as you sat in a nearby empty booth. A waitress came over and you ordered a water. She nodded her head and turned to walk away as you rested your head in your hands. While waiting, you overheard two people arguing over something.
"Dude, just ask her out." one said.
"What? No! What if she doesn't say yes?" the other said.
"Of course, she'll say yes! I mean, look at you!"
"I'm wearing armor, and I'm pretty sure that it's not a sight to look at."
"Pff, whatever. Just do it already!"
"Fine, if it means you'll leave me alone!"
The waitress came back over and placed a glass of water in front of you, breaking your trance. You thanked her and picked up the glass. You took a small sip then set down the glass as a clone sat in front of you.
"Hey, uh, sorry to disturb you but may I ask you something?" He asked shyly.
"Sure, go ahead." You replied with a smile.
"Uhm, will you go on a date with me?"
As soon as you heard those words, you became shocked. No one has ever asked you that question before.
"You want to go on a date, with me?" You asked, still shocked.
"Uh, yeah, I do." He said slightly confused.
"Are you sure that you haven't mistaken me for someone else?"
"What? Yeah, I'm sure."
"Sorry, it's just that this is all new to me."
He looked at you curiously as you crossed your arms and casted your gaze down.
"What do you mean by that?" He asked slowly.
"Well, um, no one has ever asked me out before." You replied, not looking up. "You're the first to ask."
You grabbed your glass and took another sip, expecting the trooper to leave.
"Then it pleases me to be the first." He said warmly.
You had the courage to look up and see him smiling at you. You smiled back as you placed your glass down.
"Ah, where are my manners, my name is Echo. What's your name?" Echo asked.
"(Y/n). It's a pleasure to meet you, Echo." You introduced.
You held up a hand for him to shake and he gladly took it. Instead of shaking your hand, like you thought he would, he placed a gentle kiss on your knuckles. You blushed slightly at the action as you both retracted hands.
"So, is that a yes?" Echo asked carefully.
"Yes, I'll go on a date with you." You said as you giggled softly.
"How does tomorrow at 5pm sound?"
"Sounds great, I'll meet you here."
"Alright, see you tomorrow."
"Yeah, see you tomorrow."
You two bid goodbye and you smiled to yourself. You watched him walk away as you leaned back into the booth. He looked back to see you looking at him and you quickly casted your head down. You blushed slightly and fiddled with your shirt as you smiled widely. You were going on your first date and you were excited.
<The next day>
You were so excited the entire day and couldn't stop smiling. Some people would ask and you would always say that you were going on a date. You made sure you looked cute for your first date and decided to wear a royal blue strapless shirt with the sleeves off the shoulder. You also wore a pair of fitting jeans with black boots.
You couldn't help but have a slight skip in your step because of how excited you were. You checked the time to see it was 16:54, it was almost time. You hurried your pace over to the clone bar and walked in towards the same booth you sat at yesterday. You ordered a glass of water as you patiently waited for Echo to arrive. A few minutes passed and he still hadn't arrived. You grew worried and thought that something might have happened to him. Your worries went away, however, just as he walked through the door. You smiled as he saw you and and walked over to the booth you sat in.
"Hi, (Y/n). You look mesh'la." Echo said.
"Thank you. You don't look too bad yourself, cate." You said.
He was taken back by your response and sat across from you.
"I didn't know you understood mando'a." He said, shocked.
"I only know simple words and phrases but I can't understand it if you say an entire sentence."
"Oh, that's nice."
An awkward silence fell between you two as both of you tried to come up with something to talk about.
"What are your interests or hobbies?" He asked.
"Oh, well, I really like watching movies and shows. I also like listening to music and I'll sometimes draw if I feel like it." You said.
"That's interesting. Perhaps next time we meet you show me what you've drawn so far, if you want to that is."
"Alright, I'll think about. What are your interests or hobbies?"
"I'd spend most of my time either reading or hanging out with my brothers."
"You have brothers? How many?"
"Well, it's, uh, it's kind of a weird story actually. Let's just say that I have a lot, and when I mean a lot, I mean a lot."
"Hmm, I have siblings as well, an older sister and two younger brothers."
"If I may ask, how chaotic are your brothers?"
"My goodness, one time they thought it would be a good idea to bring in a stray loth cat. Boy, my parents did not like that at all."
"Something like that happened to me a few weeks ago. One of my brothers in the 212th thought it was funny to bring in, not one, but five loth cats. Five, that stunt put him on cleaning duty for a month."
"It seems like you have quite the family."
"Yeah, sometimes, I hate them for what they do but I appreciate them for being my brothers."
"When my sister found out I was going on this date, she grew ecstatic and actually picked this outfit for me."
"Tell her I said she picked the right outfit then."
"I will, uh, I'm curious. Why did you ask me out?"
"Oh, um, actually I was dared to ask you out when you walked through the door the first time we met."
"Let me guess, one of your brothers dared you to."
"Yep, his name is Fives and even though we're brothers, we're also best friends."
"That's how I am with my sister. We love each other like sisters yet be best friends in front of others."
Throughout the entire time spent together, both of you talked about many things. Family and childhood being the main points of conversation. And soon, nighttime came and it was time for you to go home.
"May I walk you home?" Echo asked.
"Of course, I enjoy your presence." You answered happily.
With that, he stuck out his arm and you looped your arm around his before walking out of the bar. You told him the directions to your home and he went the directions you said. There was a comfortable silence between you unlike before and neither of you talked, only enjoying each others presence. Soon enough, you arrived at the door to your home and you turned to Echo before walking in.
"Thanks for this date, Echo. I really enjoyed our time together." You said as you held his hands.
"Even though it was supposed to be a dare, I quite enjoyed our date, too." He said, agreeing with you.
"If you want, maybe we can go out next week?"
"Alright, I'll see if I'm available."
"Oh, wait," you took a strip of paper out of your pocket. "This is my number, my sis wrote it just in case the date went well, which it did so here."
You gave him the strip of paper and he put it in his pocket.
"Thank you again, Echo. I'll see you next week." You said smiling wider.
You stood up on your tiptoes and gently kissed his cheek. You pulled back and laughed a bit at his expression before turning around. You looked back and gave him one last smile before walking inside. You sighed dreamily thinking of Echo already as you leaned against the door.
As for Echo, he started smiling like an idiot as he made his way back to base, calling a taxi. He took out the piece of paper you gave him and glanced at the numbers written on it. If possible, he smiled even wider at the thought of possibly calling or texting you the next day.
You took slow steps to your room and threw yourself on your bed, sighing dreamily again. Just then, you heard a knock at your door and looked up to see your older sister, Karlee.
"So, how was the date?" She asked as you sat up.
"It was amazing, we're going out again next week." You said with a smile.
"Did you give him your number?"
"Yes, I did."
You spent the next half-hour telling Karlee what happened on your date.
As soon as Echo arrived back at base, Fives came up to him and asked so many questions. Echo answered them honestly and also spent the next half-hour telling him how it went.
You thought you would never go on a date, but you were proved wrong when you were asked out by a very handsome man.
