Prologue
A soft, pink tongue caressed the stained red claws that had unsheathed from blood soaked paws. Once again, the kill had been easy, almost effortless. The black furred she-cat purred luxuriously, her fangs protruding to show a similar red sheen.
A familiar shape started to push its way through the tree line, straight in the direction of the dusky black she-cat. He carried a vibrantly colored red, green, and blue bird in his jaws.
"Thank you, Luna. I would never have been able to take on Bruce by myself," the newcomer splurged after he dropped his prey by his paws. His brown tabby fur was ruffled, his green eyes wide as he looked at her.
Of course you couldn't, she thought with a mild smirk. "It was my pleasure Kato," she purred. She knew that the tom was never comfortable around her, and he had every right not to be. They all fear me.
"I brought you this parrot, like I promised," he meowed as he pushed the body of the feathered prey closer.
Luna's attention instantly transfixed on the parrot, her claws sinking into the lush grass beneath her. "Ah yes. You're always so punctual with my payments. But, you've also seen what happens when your kind has forgotten to bring me my due."
Ah yes, sometimes the cats who requested her service would promise her lavish payment in return. And when they couldn't deliver, they paid with their blood.
Kato's lean muscles tensed as Luna leaned forward to sniff at the bird. She looked up at him from the corner of her eye, a growl rumbling in her chest. "Did you need anything else," she hissed.
The tom jumped, his tail twitching like a leaf. "No, no I don't need anything else," he gasped before he turned and raced back into the tree line. The tropical foliage swallowed his striped brown pelt from view.
Luna glared at the spot where he had disappeared, a scowl tugging at the corners of her muzzle. Sometimes these loners could be so featherbrained. After several moments, she relaxed and started to tuck into her prey.
She had never personally tried to hunt any of the forest's creatures. She was as content with the two-leg's soft, mushy food as she was with the wild animals that lived outside. But she couldn't deny, it definitely tasted unlike anything she could have imagined.
She bit into the prey, savoring the flavor as it washed over her tongue. Ahh, this is perfect, she thought in smug satisfaction. She couldn't imagine her life any better than it was now.
Just as she was about to take her second bite, she heard the feminine voice of her twoleg call out across the garden. With a frustrated flick of her tail, she stood up from her meal and turned back towards the garden's fence. Luna could hear her twoleg walking through the short grass, presumably searching for her.
She glanced down to survey the state of her fur and was pleased to find it silky and devoid of any blemishes or smears. With a hasty mew, she leaped and pulled herself up over the top of the fence and landed silently in her garden.
"I'm here," she meowed as she trotted closer to the female twoleg. "I'm ready to go inside." She stretched up on her back legs as the twoleg reached down and lifted her into her arms. Luna's chest vibrated with a rich purr, her eyes closing as she nuzzled close to the twoleg's chest.
She felt herself pulled in tighter, bliss washing over her senses. I couldn't imagine my life any other way.
