Chapter 8 - "Silly Races..."

Clara's PoV

'Are you sure you want me to come?' I mumbled as he held the gate open for me.

'Of course. If you like running as a stress reliever then you'll love this track' he smirked.

'Whoa. This is massive' I said as my eyes widened and suddenly the lights to the whole track came on. It was like a professional track I was standing on. 'How did you do that?'

'Magic' he smirked. 'So. Last one round the track is a rotten egg' he said briskly bottling away, as I snapped my mouth shut and ran after him.

'Oi. Cheater' I scoffed, running after him and actually catching up with him quite easily, and just about got my foot over the finish line before him.

'How did you do that?' He mumbled. 'You've got a set of legs on you. For such a short person - you have a set of Fucking legs'

'I know right. Can't help it' I grinned.

'You should sign up for the marathon I'm doing' he suggested, as we went towards the stands, to sit for a moment.

'Your doing a marathon?'

'Yeah. It's about 10 miles. A couple of people at the school are doing it but most are just walking. I want to run because I'm hoping to be able to do it in under two hours'

'Whoa. That's pretty quick'

'That's why I come up here almost every night to train. I won't give up until I'm managing it. About 10 laps around this track would be about 10 miles' he shrugged. 'It would be cool to not have to train alone'

'I've never trained before. Id probably be rubbish. I wouldn't even know where to start'

'I'll help. If you want to do it that is. I'm raising money for a blind foundation. More kids should get the opportunity to have correction surgery's to correct eyesight. Seems like a pretty worthy cause' he shrugged.

'You know someone who's blind?'

'Me'

'Wait what? How could you possibly be blind? You know what I look like... Right. You know where you are don't you?'

'Not like that. I was born with shit eyesight and lost most of the sight in my right eye. Basically to my right eye you are just a blob. I can see perfectly fine though out of my left eye. I wear contacts in my right eye which helps, and the right lens of my glasses are helpful, but I've already faced the fact that I'll probably loose the sight in my right eye eventually. The corrective surgery will only last for so long. I'll have to have it again in my 20's and probably 30's.

'And I thought being short sighted was shit'

'Your a contact wearer too then?'

'All the time. Never really wear glasses anymore. I look like such a nerd'

'Fair enough. Now enough of this depressing talk. Let's start with this training'

'I don't know if I'll be any good'

'You don't have to raise it for the blind if you don't want too. Choose a charity yourself. Please? Your a good runner and with a bit of training you'll be running the marathon faster than I am'

'Okay. But in running for the same charity as you. I highly doubt that I'll get as many supporters and donations but I'll give it a go - and my Mum supports pretty much everything I do' I shrugged.

'She can come and watch. Wait at the finish line for support'

'When is this marathon?'

'April 1st. We've got time'

'Not long'

'So let's start now. Run around the track and we'll see how fast you can do it' he said pulling the timer up on his phone.

- - -

'9 minutes. Not bad. If your doing it at 9 minutes you'll manage under two hours. If your doing it at 9 minutes we could set a target of an hour and a half' he said as we headed back to campus.

'Maybe' I said, as he pulled a pouch of something from his bag. 'What the hell is that?'

'Add milk to it. It's a protein shake. Doesn't replace meals but is good for training and running. It's healthy as well' he smiled.

'Thanks. I'll see you in maths tomorrow then I guess' I nodded, hugging him tightly, and heading into my bedroom before taking a shower.

I breathed a sigh of relief to know and find that Casey wasn't here leaving me all alone in the room and gave me a chance to shower and get dressed before she came back with God knows who tonight.

Matt made sure to watch Clara go into the bedroom before disappearing - innocently to check that she's okay but also to find out exactly what room she's in.

He knew that if she was sharing with Casey and having some problems that she needed to be watched and looked after.

'Cut it out. The pair of you' Matt scoffed as he shielded his eyes from the grossness that he was witnessing on Richards bed.

In front of him was Lilly sprawled out very much underneath Richard, who was both moaning and defiantly using tongues in their mouths.

Thankfully they were both fully dressed aside from the fact that Richard was defiantly holding onto Lilly breast tightly.

'It's all innocent dude' he scoffed.

'Hmm. Looks it' Matt shivered, as they sat up and he threw his sweat covered shirt off.

'Forget it Richard. He's just jealous because he's not getting any'

'I'm getting plenty thank you' Matt lied.

'Oh so Clara dropped her facade and decided to go out with you?'

'What. What are you talking about?' Matt said flustered.

'Oh come on. We can all see the chemistry between the two of you. We all know that your going to ask her out?'

'Were not going out. I'm helping her train for the marathon. And she's barely been here two weeks'

'The one your running?'

'Yeah. We're going to do it together'

'Your going to do it together all right' Richard smirked.

'Dude. Seriously?' Matt scoffed throwing the sweaty shirt at him and shielded himself with Lilly's hair going very soon back to making out with her fiercely.
