Part 73

Henry walked out the apartment felt like a chain being shackled on his ankles as he walked along the New York's pavement. His tears won't stop flowing and his legs kept on moving despite the heavy rain still pouring from the sky since yesterday.

He bumped into everyone's shoulder that walked past him like he is a ghost that they couldn't see and by the time he realized, his own body actually pulled him towards the one place he knew that would helped him in this situation.

He climbed on the steps towards the door of the brownstone house and rang the doorbell with his fingers trembling in coldness.

He could hear feet, padding behind the door and behind the thick glass mirror on the door, he could see silhouette of a man opening the door for him. His eyes wide at the sight of Henry soaking wet in the rain, with duffle bag on his side and clothes soaked in two colors.

"Hen? What the fuck? What's going on? Come in. You'll catch a cold." Shaan invited Henry inside his home without hesitation and Henry stepped inside carefully before Shaan closed the door behind him.

Inside Shaan's home was warmth, a simple decor and arts hung on the wall with living room on the side and the television was on with business news on displayed. He stood by the foyer, staring at the large chandelier hung on the ceiling above his head when Zahra appeared from down the hallways in her robe, covering herself with a tie around her protruding belly.

"Henry? What's wrong? Are you alright? Is Alex alright?" She asks, concerned etched on her brows as she stepped closer towards him.

"I uh- I- I need a place to stay, for a while." Henry coughs, hugging his body closed trying to hide the shivering running through his body right now. But none of them are fools that they couldn't see how much he struggled between his chattering teeth and his coughs.

"Jesus, stop talking right now! Take off the jacket and the shoes, head upstairs and take a shower. I'll bring you some warm clothes." Shaan told him, without even questioning him further as he heard Henry coughs starts getting worst.

Henry obliged, pulling his arms out of his wet jacket with Shaan's helped and tossed the shoes to the side before Zahra pointed him towards the stairs and down the hallway to the left for the bathroom.

"So how do we do this?" Zahra asks her husband grabbing the jacket from his hand that was now dripping with water all over their hardwood floors.

"What do you think? You take your boy, I'll take mine. I'm pretty sure one of them is to blame on this. My money is on your boy." Shaan said which Zahra clicked her tongue back and threw the jacket back at Shaan.

"I'll take Henry, you take Alex cause God forbid, I gave that boy too many chances and if I talk to him, I might have to kill him." Zahra said before climbing herself up the stairs carefully with her hands cupping under her belly while the other over the bannister. From behind her, she could hear her husband calling their housekeeper to clean up the water drops knowing how much Shaan cared for her.

.

Henry stepped into the pale white bathroom and immediately squinted his eyes at the brightness of the light shining into his eyes. The bathroom is a lot smaller than Alex's one back at the loft but it is still bigger than what he used to have. The pale grey marble top were decorated with clean towel folded at the side with black taps in the middle and cupboards of amenities surrounded the wall with a two sides mirror in the center.

Behind him, a single bathtub pressed into a wall with a shower cubicle right next to it in the corner and a toilet separates in between. Henry pushed the toilet seat down and sat on the lid burying his head into his palm before a sobs finally broke him.

His chest heaved as he sobs continues and he couldn't stop himself from crying when the feeling starts to overwhelmed him with the reality. He couldn't accept the fact that he is back being homeless from a decision he had to choose despite every single fibre of his being protested. But he couldn't blame anyone else except for himself. This is what happened when you got too dependent on others for help, you'll be helpless.

His sobs were interrupted when a soft knock came to the door and Zahra's voice followed from behind it. "Hen? Can I come in?" She asks and Henry immediately wiped his tears with his shirt collar that was soaking wet but he couldn't care less.

"Yep." Henry replied when another cough erupts that sounded so painful it made Zahra winced. "Jeez, you sounded like my niece when she had croup. Here." She handed him a stack of folded clothes that made Henry questioned her. "Alex?" He asks trying to take a whiff of the scent on the clothes but it smelt different than Alex's usual scent.

"Nah, it was Shaan's actually, figured he won't mind you used some of his college clothes. Although it might be a little short on you." She said smiling at the thought of Henry tall leaned built wearing her husband's old college clothes. But Henry remained quiet staring at the clothes in his hand before setting it on the counter.

"Wanna talk about it? She asks and Henry hesitated for a while staring at himself in the mirror. His eyes are bloodshot and his blonde hair is all ruffled due to the wind and the rain. His skin turns shades paler from the cold including his lips.

"We uhm- broke up." Henry hesitated, unsure of how she would react but kept his gaze straight when Zahra gasped, immediately moves herself to stand right beside Henry, face shocked and confused. She pulled Henry to face her but Henry couldn't even lift his eyes to meet her gaze.

"Why the hell would you do that?" She asks, voice raised but Henry only kept his gaze down between them in silence again. He shrugged, pressing his lips together trying to hide the trembled. "We're not meant to be." He whispered before his throat caught another coughs.

"That's bull-" Zahra stopped from finishing her sentence considered that she and Shaan had promised never to curse in this house anymore. Henry shrugged his shoulder again that made her cocked her head to search his eyes for the truth. But Henry immediately hides by shifting to his side that made her pulled back from trying.

She sighed rubbing her temple before stroking her pregnant belly that caught Henry's eyes.

"You got big." He said that made Zahra snapped her eyes back at him. "I'm sorry big? Say that word again and you will know how big my fist would feel knocking your teeth out." She fisted her own fist to show Henry how strong she is that made Henry chuckled before another coughs broke him.

"Look I might not know what the hell happened between you and Alex but I'm sure you guys are gonna work things out. You'll see." Zahra reassured stroking Henry's cold hands that pressed firm on the counter.

"Not this time." Henry whispered, voice cracked from the coughs, "What do you mean?" She asks but before Henry could answer her, another coughs erupts in his throat and made him hunched forward into the porcelain sink.

"Go ahead and shower, wash your hair. Your bedroom is right across the bathroom once you finished with shower, okay? Then later when you're done, come down for some breakfast." She explained and Henry nodded clearing his throat in pain.

She stood by the door holding the frame in one hand before turning behind her shoulder to face Henry again, "Stay as long as you need Henry. You're family." She said and Henry nodded thanking her.

"Zar?" He called her out stopping her from leaving and she hummed with a smile, "Do me a favor?" He asks, voice hoarse from the coughs. "Sure thing." She replied shortly.

"Don't let Alex in. I can't- I don't want to see him just yet." He pleaded, eyes are welled up in another tears begging to fall and surprisingly, Zahra nodded with an understanding smile before grabbing the door closed.

She waddled downstairs to see her husband is already on his phone pacing around the living room. "I don't know, he showed up in here, soaking wet like a runaway child." He said into the phone when he realized Zahra walked in to the living room. "Hold on." He said cupping the speaker on the phone before asking her.

"How is he? Did he say anything?" Shaan asks but Zahra shrugged. "He said it's over between them. He won't tell me why but he said not to let Alex in, he's not ready to see him." She explained that made him sighed pinching his nose bridge together.

"Is that him? Let me talk to him." Zahra was trying to snatch the phone away from Shaan's hand but he raised it higher from her. "Not Alex, Cash. He's not answering my calls and I ask him to check on him."

"And?" She asks. "What do you think? He went berserk and now Cash said he's locking himself in the bedroom." He said but Zahra wasn't unfamiliar by Alex's reaction especially his rebellious state ever since she knew him.

"Alright Cash, just leave it be for now but make sure if he leaves the house, someone has eyes on him. I can't keep an eye on both of them at one. Henry is safe here with me, just make sure you did the same with Alex." Shaan told him before ending the call and tossed his phone on the couch next to him.

"What are we gonna do?" Shaan asks his wife as he took a seat on the couch burying his face into his palm and Zahra sat on the coffee table facing him.

"First of all, we need to make sure Henry is alright. He won't stop coughing since he got here." Zahra said and Shaan was about to run upstairs for him when Zahra pushed him back on the couch. "After- he got out of shower." She told him and Shaan sighed back.

"You sure you ready to have kids? Cause I'm petty exhausted with these two." Shaan asks his wife that made her snorted in laughter.

"Of course I am. She has the best damn parents she could have and two idiots uncle that would be there for her whenever she needed it." Zahra said rubbing the side of her belly that made Shaan smiled leaning forward to join her. A flutter of kicks hits their palm that made them laughs happily by the contact.

"They'll be fine, you'll see." Zahra reassured him by stroking Shaan's hands softly over her belly. He sighed again, shaking his head low before pulling his hand away but clasped together with Zahra, "I really thought they would live their happily ever after by now. Not- this." Shaan's voice sounded desperate, defeated even.

"I know darling, I know." Zahra could feel the disappointment in her husband's eyes and hopelessness in how to help these two important people in his lives right now.

They both waited in the kitchen, having their breakfast together like they normally do while waiting for Henry to come down. But to their disappointment, Henry never did.

"It's okay, I'll bring this up to him. You finished your bowl." Shaan told Zahra as she munching on her breakfast. Shaan grabbed a plate of now warm scrambled eggs and a bowl of cut up fruits next to it with a cup of hot English breakfast tea for Henry in a tray before heading upstairs towards the guest bedroom.

He knocked on the door lightly to expect Henry welcoming him in, only to be greeted back with silence so he let himself in with one hand juggling the tray and the other pushing the door opened. "Hen? I brought breakfast." He says as he walked inside the bedroom and found Henry already in bed with his back facing him.

Shaan walked closer towards the bed and set the tray down on the table next to it before he circled around to the other side and found Henry falling asleep with eyes swollen from tears. He sighed pulling the blanket from under Henry's feet and draped it over his body up to his shoulders. Henry didn't move, didn't even flinched when Shaan moves him which tells him how exhausted he is and probably the night he had.

"What am I gonna do to you Hen?" He asks himself as he sat by Henry's side. The bed dipped but Henry never stirred and continued to sleep.

.

"Alex!"

"Open the fucking door!"

"Come on! Just tell me what's wrong?"

Cash insistent banging and trying to find answers after Shaan told him what had happened. Truth is, he was suspicious when he called him so early in the morning and already suspected something is up. Shaan never called him, not for himself anyway, usually it always involved Alex cause he has his own driver.

When Shaan told him that Henry showed up at their home, soaking wet in rain, he had no other thing in mind except he knew Henry might have walked there by himself. So here he is, trying to put the pieces of puzzle together.

"Al- " the door swung opened to Alex standing right in front of him, eyes bloodshot and swollen with tears running down his face. His messy curls falls on his forehead but his gaze are the coldest Cash had ever seen.

"Get the fuck out!" He seethed and before Cash could respond, Alex tried to slam the door back on his face except he was quite quicker than he thought. "Not in a million years." He said pushing the door open but Alex fought equally pushing it back in place.

"Let go of the fucking door Cash!" Alex pushed leaving only a few inches apart but Cash had the equal body strength that would fight him back so they practically fighting on each sides. "Not till you fucking tell me what's wrong!" Cash replied, teeth clenched as he pushed harder.

"I am your fucking boss! When I told you to leave, you fucking do! Why are you so damn strong?!" Alex pushed back knowing it's ridiculous for him to fight his own bodyguard.

"I don't give a shit! You're not mentally stable right now!" Cash pushed and suddenly Alex released his own gripped from the door and stepped aside causing Cash to give all his strength and accidentally pushed all the way in and ended up falling on the floor of Alex's bedroom.

"FINE! You wanna know what's going on?! He fucking left! He left me Cash! I know I shouldn't fucking give my heart to someone!" Alex says as he starts destroying his entire bedroom. He shoved the cabinet down on the floor and tossed literally everything that was on the table scattering it all over the side.

He grabbed the photo frame of his parents at his graduation and starts throwing it on the walls causing the glass to shatter in pieces.

"Alex- I'm so sorry." Cash said after he stood slowly and watched the mess he made in the bedroom. "WHY CASH?! Why would he do that?! Haven't I gave him enough?! Then he decides one day just to broke my heart like this?! WHY??!!!" He yelled again destroying yet another sets of frame into the wall that probably his degree or his achievement awards.

"It doesn't make sense Alex. I know for a fact that Henry loves you. Everyone can see that." He tried to give some clarity on why Henry decides to leave him out of the blue like this. "I guess it's not fucking enough then!" Alex says throwing another frame into the wall, shattering it to pieces.

"Alex, stop. You're gonna hurt yourself." Cash tried to grab another frame from his hand and Alex fought that made them clash in a tug of war with the frame in each hand. But Cash won by tugging it harder that made Alex stumbled on his feet and fell on his back against the bed.

"Alex! Are you okay?" He asks concerned he might pushed him a little harder when he finally saw Alex broke out in tears. He lowered himself on the floor with his back pressed against the bed and the scattered of mess around him.

"I can't do this. I can't live like this. I need him Cash. I need him." Alex whimpered burying his face into his palm while sobbing in tears. Cash sighed, placing the frame down on the empty table before he crouched next to Alex. "It'll be okay boss. Give him time. He'll come around." He said but Alex shot his head back at him.

"Henry said that! Did he say anything to you?!" Alex asks angrily scrunching a handful of Cash's collar pulling him closer that made him stumbled on his knees. "Nope! I'm just saying give Henry some time to think. Maybe time apart would do you guys good, you know, he'll miss you and he will think this is bad idea." Cash tried to defend his word but Alex wasn't convinced but he pushed Cash back releasing his collar from his grip.

Alex remained quiet, staring into the space with tears running down his cheek while Cash adjusts himself and sat on the floor next to Alex.

"Boss, he'll come back. I know he will. Trust me on this." Cash tried to reassure him but Alex only stares forward. "What if he doesn't?" He asks, lips whimpered in tears. He feared for the thought of Henry might never come back.

But Cash couldn't find himself to say anything further knowing it would be nothing but lies and it would hurt him further. All he ever need right now is a shoulder to cry on and someone to keep an eyes on him.

Alex sat there for hours, with Cash keeping him company while helping him cleaning up the glasses in the room and placed every frame back in place including the cabinet.

"Where's your sister went?" He asks, noticed the loft was eerily silenced and surprised that she wasn't there since he got here and Alex was alone while he was having this breakdown.

Alex shrugged keeping his gaze straight on the space before him. The tears had dried out on his face and Cash knew he hasn't had any breakfast yet. "Want me to order something? Or make you something perhaps?" He offered but Alex chose to ignore him. He stood up from the floor, stumbling on his own feet but he grabbed on his mattress to steady himself.

Cash watched as Alex went straight into the bathroom and locked the door behind him. He sighed, carefully sat himself down on the bed when Alex suddenly opened the door with hands full of pill bottles.

"Alex- don't even think about it. I will have you on suicide watch if you dare!" Cash says already stood on his feet facing Alex by the bathroom door. He looked up, eyebrow furrowed in confusion. "What the fuck? NO! I'm not gonna kill myself by taking this. This is Henry's!" He said pushing the bottles into Cash's hand.

"He didn't take any of his meds. He needs his meds Cash. I'm gonna send it to him." Alex says grabbing the bottles in his hand again and bolted towards the door. Cash immediately rushing behind him trying to pick up his own pace as Alex ran towards the elevator.

The car ride to Shaan's house is completely silence and Cash occasionally glanced over his side to see Alex staring out the window biting his own fingernails with knees bounced anxiously on the floor.

The minute Shaan's house came into view, he barely put the car in park when Alex bolted again running towards the front door with the toiletries bag filled with Henry's medicine inside. He pressed the bell repeated in haste and kept banging on the door before it finally opened revealing Shaan in his normal shirt and sweatpants on.

"Alex- " he tried to tell him when Alex barged into his home with no words or even getting invited by him.

"Where is he?' He asks and Shaan pushed him back towards the door but Alex won't budge. "Where is he? HENRY?!" Alex shouted his name and starts pacing in the living room where he finds it empty.

"Alex, calm down. Stop yelling!" Shaan warned him trying to pull him back to the front door as Cash about to walk in. "Oh good, take him home, now." He told him but Alex refuses and pulled his arms away from his grip harshly with his angry gaze.

"I'm not leaving till I talk to him. HENRY! You come down here you fucking bastard!" He yelled but Shaan stopped him from heading towards the staircase behind him. Luckily the staircase was actually facing the other side of the house that required him to walk along the foyer for him to climb the stairs.

"Alex, enough. Breathe. Look at me!" Shaan told him, pushing him back by his chest and Alex snapped his eyes back at him, angrily.

"I know you're hurt. I know Henry is hurting too. But yelling like this won't solve anything. I know for a fact that he love you, deeply." Shaan tried to reason catching Cash's eyes behind Alex as he held his employer arms tight. Alex stopped from fighting himself from their grip and finally broke in another tears.

"Then why?" He voice broke and Shaan could only shook his head back at him. "I don't know alright. I'm gonna find out and I will let you know okay. Please. Go home. Don't make things worst as it already is Alex." Shaan voice is soothing but firm like a father calming his son and for once, Alex obeyed. He wiped the tears in his eyes before he noticed the bag tucked under his arms.

"Give him this. Make sure he takes his meds. There's three for the morning and there is a spray for him to use if he's in pain. It's better if he took it thirty minutes before food so he won't feel so much pain." Alex rambled opening the bag to show Shaan but he immediately stopped him by grabbing Alex's wrist from rummaging the bag that filled with Henry's medications.

"I can read the label. I'll make sure he got this. We'll take care of him Alex. Trust me." Shaan told him politely, softly so he won't think he tries to ignore his instructions but somehow Alex remained quiet with his head low letting Shaan grabbed the bag from his grip and zipped it close.

"Promise me you'll call if anything happens. If he coughs with blood again, you need to take him to the hospital Shaan! I mean it! Don't delay any seconds!" He instructed him and Shaan nodded vigorously. "I won't, I promised." Shaan promised him nodding towards Cash to pull him away.

The moment the door shuts closed on Alex's face, he could feel his whole world crashing down on top of him. Cash watched as Alex took his steps carefully before he finally let his whole body falls down on the stone steps.

For once in his life, Cash never actually seen Alex broke down like this. He always portray a strong facade even when the time his sister went missing, he never broke. But the sight in front of him, the way Alex shuddering and sobbing in tears make his entire perspective changed about him.

He couldn't find any words that would make Alex feels better knowing that it was nothing but lies. So he sat down next to him, hands stoking his back in soft circles while Alex cried into his palms.

.

Henry woke up later with his head buzzing with heaviness. His throat felt a lot more pain than earlier and each time he swallowed, it felt like a knife pierced through him.

"HENRY!"

He was startled by the sound of Alex's voice screaming his name. He stood up, heart stammering in fear to see him but he knows Shaan won't let him especially after he told Zahra not too.

He walked out of the bedroom, slowly edging towards the bannister and Alex's voice sounds a lot clearer now but he remained at the top of the stairs listening to their conversation.

"Alex, enough, breathe. Look at me." Shaan's voice are soft, calming that made Henry's heart swarmed with relieved. Henry's glad that Shaan is one of the person that can handle Alex's temper especially when he's raged with emotions like this. He leaned by the wall and sat on the first steps while listening to Alex and Shaan talking about him.

Zahra came out of her bedroom when she heard the commotion downstairs and Alex's voice filled their entire house. She was fully dressed in her sweatshirt and pants hiding her obvious bump when she caught Henry sat by the stairs with his head leaned to the wall. Her bet is because he heard Alex's voice that woke him up.

She sat herself down next to him pulling Henry's hand in hers before Henry finally turned his head to face her with tears running down his cheek. "Oh Hen." Her heart broke at the sight of Henry crying before he leaned against her shoulder. Her heart broke when she could feel Henry's body shuddering in tears.

She heard the front door closed and soon her husband shuffling towards the staircase and immediately stopped by the end of the staircase when he saw his wife comforting Henry.

They both locked eyes at each other, while Henry continued to sob on her shoulder and the only thing she could do is giving him a soft strokes on his back. Shaan climbed up the stairs and sat himself down by Henry's feet softly stroking his legs in hope it would gave him some comfort knowing that he is not alone in this.
