Part 59
"Henry."
"Dad?"
"Open your eyes son."
Henry could feel soft warmth breezes blew over his face. The ground beneath him are soft, unlike before, he could feel soft sands brushing through his palm. He flutters his eyes opened revealing the bright wide sky above him, bluest as he remembers.
The sound of soft waves crashing by his feet pulling him into a sitting position when he could finally see he was lying down on an empty beach. The sand are soft white and the water is pure blue matches the sky above his head.
"Hey buddy."
Henry shot his head next to him to see his father sitting besides him wearing a cotton white crisp shirt with white sailing pants rolled up right above his ankle revealing his bare feet buried halfway into the sand.
"Dad?" He called surprise by his sudden appearance next to him. "Am I dreaming again?" Henry asks but Arthur smiled softly shaking his head at him.
"You're not Henry." He says cupping Henry's cheek with his palm. Henry gasped at the warmness of his palm pressed against his cheek that he had longed for so many years. Henry didn't waste anymore seconds before wrapping his arms around his father's neck.
"I miss you. I miss you so much." Henry murmured in Arthur's neck tightening his arms over his fathers, scared that if he let go, he might disappear again.
"I know darling, I know." Arthur reassured pushing Henry forward to gaze upon his son beside him. He wiped Henry's tears away with his thumb before resting his palm over his cheek. "I miss you too, so so much." Arthur replies.
"Henry."
Another soft voice called Henry behind him that he felt too familiar. The softest voice he haven't heard in a while pulling him to turn his head behind his shoulder to see her.
"Mum?" Henry cries, immediately stood from the white sand and rushed into her already opened arms. She was as beautiful as Henry remembers. Her blonde wavy hair resting perfectly over her shoulder, her scent that mixed with vanilla and lavender that always calms Henry down whenever he felt too overwhelmed. Her sundress are cream white rested right below her knees and Henry could feel the softness of the fabric brushing against his palm.
"How are you here? I miss you both so much." Henry felt his father's assuring palm resting over his shoulder when he pulled away from his mother. Catherine smiled widely, raising her palm over Henry's cheek. Her blue eyes are like crystals found in a volcanoes, sparkling like stars in the night sky.
"I miss you too darling. You're home now." She replied softly gaze upon her husband stood behind Henry. "We're finally together again." Arthur adds wrapping his arms around both Henry and his wife. Henry smiled happily resting his head in the crook of his father's neck when he heard another soft voice echoed behind them.
"Took you long enough." Henry looked up and there she was, standing in her yellow cream dress with hair radiant like the sun. Smiling sheepishly at them with the freckles painted across her cheeks like stars in the night sky.
"Bea?" Henry pulled away from his parents when he saw her. She is as beautiful as Henry remembers that made all the horrid nightmares of her all these years seems faded.
"Hi lil brother." She smiled letting Henry pulled her into his arms in a tight hug.
"Oh Bea, I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry." Henry couldn't hold on to his tears the moment he wrapped himself in her small frame. Henry could smell her usual scents of honey in her hair that brought up a lot memories of their childhood. "I miss you too Hen." Bea whispered in his ear casually stroking his back in soft circles.
Henry pulled away from her hugs in tears. His hand cupped around her face soaking into the memory of them when they were younger. Bea is always stronger, a fighter and when their parents died, she lost her will but the Bea that stood in front of him right now was the Bea that Henry had longed to see in years.
Her pearly smile made Henry's heart broke in pieces, the smile he had longed to see for so many years that made him sobs further.
"I'm so sorry about Pip darling. What he did to you. I'm so sorry for leaving you. I was weak and clueless. I should have been there to protect you Hen. But I didn't." Bea lowered her gaze down but Henry lifted her chin up to face him smiling at her.
"Not your fault Bea. For what its worth, you got me through. Even you hid in darkness. You were always there, keeping me company." Henry's voice broke. Tears brimming in his eyes that fell on his cheek as he blinked. "I didn't want to hurt you. I didn't want you to feel like you should give up and join us instead." Bea states linking their fingers together.
"Believe me I'd try." Henry joked smiling painfully in his tears. But Bea could only faked a smile back at him with her gaze softens.
"I know how much you've been hurt. That you felt the whole world around you is trying to hurt you Hen. But somehow you pull through. You found a little solace in those fucked up world. You fought so hard to get where you are. I don't know how you managed to find that hunk of a man like that despite everything that happened." They both laughed at Bea's word which brought Henry's mind back to Alex.
"Alex?" Henry whispered realizing what had happened earlier. Alex's face came flooded back into his mind and he remembered the knife that stabbed him. Alex's grimaced face hurts Henry deep in his chest and only then he realized, his chest is stabbing in pain.
"Hen?" Bea asks noticed Henry's stroking his fingers over his chest with his eyebrow crooked. "S-Something's wrong." Henry whispered in reply. He saw the look on their faces dropped including his parents. "It'll be okay Hen." His dad reassured.
But Henry sense something was different between them. Something that pulls his thoughts when they said home didn't seems right to him.
"Wait, did you just said I'm home? Where am I? This isn't my usual dreams." He looked around the beach only to notice that they are the only person there that brought more questions into Henry's mind. "Try to remember Hen." His father said but Henry couldn't, for the life of him, he tried to remember everything that happened but nothing seems right to him.
"Try to remember Hen." Catherine words echoed.
Henry remembers a loud bang. He could almost feel the ringing in his ear but then he remembered Alex. He remembers June lying in the corner barely holding on to her life. He remembered Leon, choking the life out of him. Then he realized something that make all of this understandable.
"I- I d-died?" He whispered, eyes blew wide in shock and disbelief.
"You did it Hen. You save her. Your purpose is done. Now you're home, with us." Catherine told him cupping Henry cheek softly grazing her thumb over the tears that fell on Henry's cheek.
"But- Alex." He muttered his name unable to imagine the feeling he must have been dealing with right now.
"He's gonna be alright son. He found his sister, you helped him find closure in life. He'll survived." Arthur assured him and Henry believes him. Somehow he felt the bitter truth comes knocking into his mind right now. Henry looked up, meeting his father's and his mother's gaze that smiles painfully at him.
"We're almost there." Henry whispered.
"Where Hen?" Catherine asks.
"To a new life." Henry lips whimpered. His eyes burnt with more tears blurring his visions as he stared into the horizon. "I never catch a break, can I?" He asks shifting his gaze back at his family.
"You can rest now Hen. It's over. You don't have to get hurt anymore." Bea whispered stroking his arms softly. Henry looked to his side staring at his sister's soft gaze before he nods. "You're home." Bea whispered wrapping his arms around his waist, "I'm home."
.
The second the gun blasted splattering Leon's brain all over the ground, Alex felt sudden surge of relieve got through him. He sighed kicking Leon off from lying over Henry's body before kneeling down next to him.
"Finally!" He says happily in hope Henry would returned with the same relief but somehow, Henry remained stoic, frozen on the ground with no movement. "Hen?" He called, worried when he saw Henry's blank stares, his eyes are not blinking like usual and the lower his gaze went, he noticed Henry's chest is also not moving.
"Hen?" He called again pressing his fingers over Henry's neck when he felt that terrifying feeling returned. "HENRY!" He yelled out his name before pressing his ear against Henry chest to hear nothing but silence, no sound of his heart beating at all.
"No, no, no, you can't do this Hen. Don't do this. We almost there. You're okay! You hear me? You're okay!" Alex couldn't tell whom exactly he tries to reassure right now, him or Henry. He was desperate trying to make this work, he had everything planned out for them. He could see their future lies ahead of him, him and Henry.
"Henry, don't do this. I need you to wake up. I need you alive damn it!" He pressed on his chest harder, almost hearing his ribs cracked but he couldn't care less, he needed Henry to live. He needed him to breathe, he needed to see him opening his eyes batting his eyelashes back at him when he teases him. He needed to hear him laughed, smiled and even cry when he had too.
"Please. Don't do this to me. Please!" He kept pressing on Henry's chest but his wound are preventing him to move harder to save him. "Argh!" He groaned in pain, collapsed over Henry's chest clutching on his side. He shook himself off before pressing Henry's chest again. "Come on Hen. Come on. Don't do this. Please. Please."
Alex couldn't pressed anymore harder than he should have without the stabbing pain striking his side. His breath huffed and pants as he tries to catch air into his lungs but his breathing caught up with his sobs.
Tears starting to flood his eyes as he gaze upon Henry's lifeless body. He crashed down next to Henry slowly cradling him close to his chest over his lap before breaking in sobbing tears.
He pressed his forehead over Henry's head letting tears falls on his cheek. "I need you Hen. Please. Come back. Come back to me baby." He whispered softly hugging Henry's now cold lifeless body close to his chest.
"We were supposed to get out of here together Hen. I had everything planned out for us." Alex whispered stroking Henry's cheek softly. "We were supposed to go out for dinner, I wanted to get us just dessert, skipped the whole meal and just watched you and your sweet tooth indulged into the dessert." Alex whimpered staring at Henry's cold gaze.
"Then I would ask you to marry me. You would fight me, give me reasons why we shouldn't. But I would say no to any of it. Cause I will tell you how much you meant to me. How much my life changed since you entered. I am not letting you go that easily. I will have to ask you thousand times if I had too until you said yes." Alex smiled in tears at the thought of Henry smiling back at him but instead, he laid in his arm, unwavering.
"I'm so sorry I couldn't save you this time." Alex whispered, whimpering into more tears as he hugged Henry closer to him.
Alex could hear the pounding grew stronger and later the door blasted opened. Cash was the first to come through the door holding out his gun pointing at the entire room. His eyes searched the area when it finally landed on Alex on the ground staring into an emptiness. In his arm, Henry unconscious body clutched close to Alex's chest with another body laid flat next to them.
He crouched next to Alex, slowly clasped over his shoulder that made Alex flinched. "Alex? What the hell happened?" He asks couldn't help staring at the other cold lifeless body next to Henry with head bashed like a crushed pumpkin.
Alex didn't answer him at first. He stares silently holding on Henry's head close to his chest like a mother protecting an infant. His eyes burning with tears that won't stop falling on his cheeks and his eyes are fixed over the corner at the end of the room.
"We found her." His voice breaks.
"Where?" Cash asks.
"She's right there, chained to the w-wall." Alex whispered gasping in his breathy tears and Cash could see where exactly Alex pointed at. He showed their men to help her before turning his gaze back at Alex.
"Alex- "
"He's gone. One minute he's fighting, gosh- you should see him Cash. He fought so hard." Alex tears runs down his cheek more rapidly with his voice choked. "I tried. I can't even save him. He won't wake up." Alex breaths shudder as he wrapped Henry closer resting his chin over Henry's head.
Alex turned his head slowly to face Cash worried gaze next to him with his lips whimpering in tears. "Where were you? I called you for help, you weren't here." Alex asks, eyes filled betrayal. Cash exhaled his breath shakily staring back at Alex's burning gaze into him.
"Alex- " Cash paused when he saw bloods drying out on his hands down to his wrist. "Alex, who's blood is it?" He asks since he couldn't see any wounds over Henry's except for Alex's bloodied hands touching his shirts. Alex didn't answer him but instead shifting his gaze, hugging Henry tighter against his chest.
"Alex let's get you checked. They're taking June, we'll take you- and Henry too." He says lowering his gaze down over Henry cold body.
"No." He murmured.
"I have to stay with him. I need to- " Alex paused breaking in more tears. "You go and make sure June is okay." He told him but Cash wasn't gonna leave him here alone. He knew Alex would fall apart soon enough to deal with Henry's death.
"Alex, you need to let him go." He whispered but only to cause more tears falls on Alex's cheek. "I can't Cash. I can't. I need him. God I need him, please. Bring him back to me."
Alex knew pleading to a certain being felt pathetic and useless. Henry is gone and Alex could not changed back the time or the past. Now everything seems shattering in pieces and Alex couldn't imagined a life without him despite finding his sister that he longed for years now seems pointless.
"I'm sorry Alex. I should have been here sooner- " Cash was interrupted when Alex raised his palm up stopping him. "Leave." He whispered but Cash remained solid on the ground next to him. "I'm not going anywhere Alex. I'm sorry this happened but there is nothing we could do anymore, he's gone." Cash tries to talk some sense into Alex only to flip anger in him.
"I said leave." Alex's words seethed through his clenched teeth shooting his rage filled gaze back at Cash sitting next to him. His arms wrapped tightly over Henry's head brushing his fingers over his blonde hair.
"I won't. I promise Henry that whatever happens, I took care of you." Cash assured.
"But who took care of him?" Alex asks and silence falls between them.
