Part 53

"Henry?"

"June?"

"Wake up."

"What?"

"Wake up. You need to wake up."

"I will find you June. I promise."

"I know."

Alex has almost reached the floating dock when he turned around to see Henry assuming he was staring back at him from the dock. But to his surprised, Henry was no longer standing there and his eyes lurked around to find him around the lake. "Alex!" He heard someone screamed his name and from distant he could see Shan running towards the empty dock pointing at the empty space.

"Henry fell!!" Shan yelled and Alex could see a swirled of water right at the front of the extended dock. He didn't think twice but swam faster like his life depends on it to save Henry.

Alex dove into the water as he got to the disappearing swirl trying to pull Henry back from the depth. The dock extended to the deeper part of the lake cause as Alex remembers, Oscar didn't want any of them to hit the rocks at the bottom if it was too shallow. So it would be difficult for him to find Henry if he's at the bottom of the lake.

Shan dived as soon as he reached the dock leaving Nora and Zahra stood by the dock while he and Alex searched for Henry. He couldn't explain why but he had a strange feelings when he saw Henry stood by the dock earlier and his heart was right to call him out. The look on Henry face still etched in his mind as if he was trying to tell him something.

They both emerged from the dark waters panting in their own breaths for air as they held longer than they should. They exchanged glances next to each other and Shan had this furrowed look on his face.

"I don't understand, he can swim." Shan spoke noticed the worried gaze from Alex and the rest kneeled by the dock.

"We'll keep looking!" Alex yelled taking another deep breath and starts dived back into the water later followed by Shan. But for Shan, he wasn't able to hold his breath long enough like Alex does so he emerged few seconds after he dived into the water.

Shan held on to the edge trying to catch his breath as he waited for Alex to emerge but this time it took him longer while they all waited patiently by the dock. He looked up to see Zahra's furrowed gaze with Nora's teary eyes glistening as she kneeled by the edge staring into the water where Alex had disappeared.

"Come on. Come on." Nora mutters repeatedly as they waited patiently for Alex to emerged from the waters.

It felt like forever when they finally saw the tiny bubbles starts floating around the surface before he saw Alex's emerged with Henry in his arms, unconscious.

"Grab him!" Alex yelled when they starts pulling Henry by the docks. Shan climbed first to help pulled Henry from the water which later Alex joined him.

"He's not breathing but there's pulse." Shan claimed after he pressed his cheek against Henry's wet chest.

Alex pushed Shan from bending down over Henry's chest and starts lifting his chin upward. He didn't waste time giving rescued breaths into Henry's mouth waiting patiently for Henry to respond.

"Come on Hen!" Alex yelled refused to give up on giving him more rescued breaths and alternating giving Henry sternal rubs. "Breathe! God damn it!" Alex yelled as just in cue, Henry starts coughing out the lake water from his throat and all of them starts exhaling breaths of relieved.

Shan helped pushed Henry on his side so he could breath better. Alex exhaled longly while stroking Henry's back trying to ease his cough.

"You're okay. You're okay." He whispered leaning his lips over Henry's wet temple. He cradled Henry's head in his arm as Henry looked up meeting his gaze. He held out his closed palm closer to Alex and slowly opening his palm revealing the bracelet Alex had gave him earlier.

"What?" Alex asks confused as he stares at Henry's pale face.

"Alex- it's- June." Henry coughs again but this time more violently than earlier. Alex assumed he swallowed too much lake water that made him coughs this badly.

"Easy Hen. Breathe. We talk about it later alright?" He says trying to cradle Henry in his arm before he pushed Alex on his chest. He tried to sat himself up so he could breathe better in that position.

"I saw her." He whispered before he fought another cough from his throat. Horror flashes over Alex's face but before he could asks further, he was caught by limp Henry on his lap.

"Let's get him inside." Shan told him which Alex obeyed. He cradled Henry in his arm before lifting him off the dock and headed straight inside the house.

"What happened?" Samuel concerned voiced echoed by the kitchen when he saw Alex carried shivering Henry in his arm.

"He fell into the lake." Alex mutters not stopping for a bit and headed straight into his bedroom. Samuel followed behind with his cane knocking on the hardwood floor like a clock on the wall.

"That was foolish to bring someone who can't swim to the lake, puta!" Samuel smacked the cane over Alex's bare thighs lightly earning him a scowl look.

"He can swim. This is- ugh!! I don't even know how to explain it." Alex says pushing the door of his bedroom opened with his knee before stepping into the room. He was about to head to the bed with soaking wet Henry in his arm but Samuel managed to stop him with his cane crossed before him.

"Bathroom first. You need to rinse him and changed him or he'll get sicker." Samuel hinted noticed Henry shivers grew intensely in his arm. Alex obeyed bringing Henry towards the bathroom when he heard Samuel instructed someone behind him to make Henry some warm tea and warm bags for his bed.

Alex changed Henry into one of his old jumper with help of Shan. He couldn't stop shivering and barely could keep his head straight when Alex brought him back to bed.

Alex tucked Henry in bed and immediately he falls to sleep snuggled up with thick blanket. Alex finally exhaled a breath of relief when he saw Henry stops shivering and falls deeply in his sleep.

"Are we going to ignore what Henry just said earlier?" Nora suddenly spoke breaking the silence in the room. They all turned their heads at her except for Alex. He sat by Henry side rubbing his thumb over Henry's knuckle.

"What exactly did he said?" Samuel asks clearly unaware of what happened by the lake earlier.

"He said-"

"Forget what he said! He's clearly distraught. He's not thinking straight!" Alex yelled cutting Nora's word halfway before she could tell Samuel about what happened.

"You don't believe him?" Shan asks surprised by Alex sudden dismissal. He among all of them would have been the one excited to hear but instead he shoved that idea away in a blinked of an eye.

"Never mind what I believed." Alex snapped turning his head a little over his shoulder to face Nora standing right behind him. He could see all of them shared the same look on their faces of confused and worried not of Henry but of him.

For years they had witnessed a little tick of information about June would sets Alex's off and made him jumped on his feet to dig on the truth until he was yet again shut by another liar or fake info about her. But this time, it surprises them how easily Alex dismissed the fact that he had been haunted with his whole life.

"But Alex, if this is true, Henry might found where June is, that's good news right?" Zahra asks concerned that Alex is behaving differently than the Alex she knew.

"No." Shan interrupts his wife keeping his gaze over sleeping Henry on the bed. His eyes then darted towards Alex whom now stood by Henry's bed with water dripping down on the floor from his wet clothes. Their gaze locked and Shan knew immediately why Alex is defending Henry from the truth at the moment.

"What is it? What are you both hiding?" Zahra asks concerned at the sudden dropped of conversation between them. Shan sighed first followed by Alex before they both turned to face Zahra, Nora and including Samuel whom now sitting by the corner chair with his hand clasped over his cane.

"The deeper Henry used his gifts, the closer he is to his own- end." Shan begins noticed Alex swallowed his throat dryly hiding his glistening gaze.

"I can't lose him." Alex muttered with a broken voice when they finally saw the tears cascading down on his cheek. He immediately wiped it off with his palm trying not to break in front of them.

"You won't." Shan whispered cupping the side of his neck firmly with a soft tap. "Henry is not alone anymore. He has us. He has you to protect him." Shan continues staring deeply into Alex's teary brown eyes before he nods.

"Thanks Shan. I appreciate it." Alex says before sitting himself back on Henry side clasping their hand together.

Alex waited the rest of the day for Henry to wake up but he didn't and instead Henry was tossing, mumbling in his sleep. His temperature spiked around the afternoon that made Alex restless and paced around the bedroom. He knew that Henry might have somehow swallowed some of the lake water that would probably cause the fever considering how weak Henry's immune system is at the moment.

His fever broke around the evening when Alex could finally breathe out in relief. He left the door slightly ajar before joining the rest of them for dinner.

He was exhausted despite not doing anything but more of mentally exhausted. Nora pushed the chair slightly for him to join them on the dining table when she saw him walking in while rubbing his messy curls.

Alex plopped down on the chair burying his face in his palm with his elbow rested on the table. He could feel comforting stroke on his arm from Nora by his side.

"He finally sleeping?" Shan asks across the table which Alex groaned to answer.

"I don't know how he handle it." Alex mutters watching as the help poured him a glass of water. "Can I have bourbon please?" He asks her politely. She left and came back few minutes later with a glass of bourbon on the table. Alex told her to leave the bottle for him on the table considered he might need it to survive the night.

They ate dinner silently making small talks with each other when they heard a glass shattering down the hallway. He head flipped immediately to the sound before he saw Samuel already walking towards the hallway to check.

Alex followed behind noticed the shattered sound came from a vase located on the table side by the hallway just outside of his bedroom fell in pieces.

"Lemme check on Henry first." Alex says rushing into his own bedroom only to see the bed is empty and Henry is no where around including the bathroom. He rushed back out with fear clearly plastered all over his face. "He's not in there."

"What? Where could he been?" Nora asks but Alex shrugged when he saw the door next to his bedroom slightly opened. "Who unlocked that door?" He asks pointed at the bedroom next to his. No one was able to answer his questions since they all knew what that room meant.

That room was locked for almost a decade and the only person who held the key is Alex. He never allows the maid to come and cleaned the room cause he didn't want to lose any traces of June in that room. He remembers how psychotic he had become since June disappearance that made the rest of the household help afraid of him at the time.

Alex stepped in, pushing the door with his palm when he heard mumbling from the inside of the bedroom.

Alex walked in, tapping on the light switch to brighten up the bedroom. Few of the bulbs are out but some are still working giving a slight brightness in the room when he finally sees Henry kneeling in the corner of the bedroom by June's dresser digging his nails into the hardwood floor.

"Hen?" He called but Henry seems too occupied with his tasks as they approached him from behind. Alex crouched slowly next to him placing his palm lightly over Henry's shoulder not wanting to startle him. But Henry seems ignoring his presence and kept muttering words and digging his nails through the floor.

"Hen, stop. Look at me baby. How did you get in here?" Alex asks but Henry seems unaware of the people staring at him and it worries Alex when he can see his fingertips are cut through the chipped flooring.

"Baby, stop. Look at me." He pulled Henry by his wrist slowly to face him and saw the look in Henry's eyes. It was not the usual look he had seen for a year now, it was like he's a completely a different person.

"He's here Alex. She said he's here." Henry says continued on scrapping his fingernails across the edges on the hardwood floor.

"Who Hen?" Alex ask but Henry continued to scrape the gap between flooring with his head low. His eyes are empty staring into nothing, completely ignoring the rest of them as they try to pull him off from the floor.

"Hen, let's get back to bed." Shan crouched next to Alex trying to pull Henry by his elbow but he flinched back and accidentally hits the dresser with the side of his body.

"DON'T TOUCH ME!" Henry snapped staring back at Shan retreating a few steps away from him. "Hen, it's me. It's Shan." He tries to reason with him but like they'd expected, Henry was completely a different person right now.

"Henry." A soft voice echoed besides Henry with gentle touched cupped his forearm. Henry looked up, his gaze softened when he saw Nora's worried look etched on her face. Her eyebrows crooked and her lips formed a faint smile to comfort him.

"N-Nora." Henry whispered and she nodded smiling wider than earlier.

"Yes Hen. Let's get you back to bed alright." She says holding out her palm for him. He eyed her small palm opened up inches from him for a while before he clasped his trembling hand over her.

Nora felt his palm is trembling cold with his fingertips painting red over her skin. But Henry stood up from the floor shakily before giddiness overcome his balance and he almost stumbled. But luckily for him, Alex is always there to catch him whenever he almost fall.

Henry managed to get back to bed with help of Alex and Shan by his sides. Alex tucked his blanket and Henry fell asleep immediately after his head hits the pillow.

Alex wanted to stay and kept him company but something inside June's room that screamed for him to check out. "Stay here with him." He told Zahra before rushing out of the bedroom followed by Shan and Nora.

Alex stood at the same place Henry crouched earlier staring at the scratches he made over the wood when he realized the gap grew wider than most of the tiles. He grabbed the letter opened from the top of June's dresser and began to flip through the tiles when he realized it was loose.

"What is it?" Nora asks curious and saw Alex starts ripping the tiles one by one exposing a hole underneath the floor.

"There's something in here." Alex says after pulling out the third tiles when he saw a rusted mint box hidden underneath the flooring. He pulled out the box size of his palm and dusted off the dirt covers over it before flipping it opened.

Inside the mint box there were polaroids of pictures that June used to take when they were little until she moves on to digital probably around her college years. She loves the camera but somehow it broke and it was unrepairable and Alex remembers Oscar bought her a new camera that was exactly as what she used before but somehow she never take pictures like she used too anymore after that.

Alex smiled when the first picture he saw was actually of his mum, Ellen pregnant at the time and Alex knew she was pregnant of him. He flipped back the picture and saw her hand writing scribbled on the back saying, "Mami and lil bro." There was a date scribbled at the bottom of the picture hinting almost two months before Alex's birth.

Alex flipped through each and every one of the picture that June have taken all the years before she broke the camera. There were plenty but none of it make sense why the picture was all hidden underneath her bedroom floor.

"I don't understand. How did Henry knew about this being in here." Nora asks the burning question that made all of them fall into a stunt silence.

"Only Henry can answer it." Shan replied grabbing the mint box from Alex's hand while he stared at one of the photo still in his hand.

"Maybe one of the picture would actually tell us who took June." Samuel interrupts causing them all to lift their heads at him. They eyes filled with questions but also a glimpse of hope when suddenly Alex snatched the box back from Shan's hand.

"He needs rest. Don't push him too hard or he'll break." Alex says before walked past Shan and Nora headed to the door. "Come on! All of you." He pointed at the exit holding the door with one hand while the other still clutching the mint box on his hip.

That night, Alex was haunted with so many questions beginning with how on earth did Henry managed to get into that locked room without a key. Alex pulled out the hidden compartment in his walls and the key is still there covered in dust. If Henry managed to open the door, the key would be touched instead of still covered by cobwebs.

He laid next to Henry that night staring at his sleeping face. He was so mysterious that had drawn Alex like a moth to a flame. Henry had made his life vastly different than others and he can't deny it but he felt protective over Henry these days.

He eyed his cut up fingers resting over his chest that Zahra had helped removed the splinters earlier. They applied some bandaid for the deeper wound and left out the superficials one. He raised himself closer pressing his lips over Henry's forehead before pulling him closer into his embrace.
