Part 113
Four days later.
Henry woke up before anyone else later that morning. He could feel his joints ached by each moves. Alex's heavy arms draped around his waist before he pushed it gently, fear waking him up but he didn't move an inch when Henry peeled himself away.
This is the fourth morning he woke up, scared, jolted from his dream of June and Colin's face haunting him. He can't get that image out of his mind and his sleep has been tortured by yet another nightmare. But somehow, Henry had been very good at hiding it from them. He had told George he won't go back to therapy with Sarah until he felt ready and somehow he agreed but deep down Henry knew he only agrees because he felt guilty by forcing him.
He grabbed his crutches under his arm and escaped the bedroom before Alex could realized he was gone. He took one last glanced at him in bed, chest bare, soft breaths escaped his nose, blanket draped over his waist. Henry let out his breaths before he shuts the door quietly.
The world outside still dark when he left the house and he didn't know why but he needs to get out of the house each time to clear his head. David sense his every movement and wanted to follow him but Henry managed to distract him with a treat in his bowl before he escaped towards the back door.
As he walked along the path, crossing the yard in darkness lit only with the faint light from the garden spotlights scattered all around the large yard. His crutches taps on the wet grass before he reached the stairs headed down to the lake. Henry carefully climbed down the steps, holding on to the concrete wall covered in moss before he reached the final steps.
The old dock was blocked by a few logs that Alex had placed so no one can stepped on it while he fixed it. He had been fixing it with George and Shaan for two days now since they dropped the things they needed. He had been working on fixing it ever since that made Henry so proud of him.
The sky still dark but slowly the horizon lit from the incoming sun, shining the earth little by little, revealing the calm water, dark and cold.
Henry set his crutches down next to him as he curled his knees closed to his chest. He pulled the sleeves of Alex's hoodie to hide his cold fingertips as he stares at the calm water. His chest tightened as he recalled that day. The image of Alex saving his lives, cursing at the world for taking him away from him again made his heart shattered.
He couldn't understand why he felt this way, despite his efforts to forget those memories, it kept bringing him back here.
The memories of being drowned in those lakes wasn't the only thing that troubled Henry and cluttered his minds. The dream he had back in the forest, the look on those victims face, especially June and Colin's face as he walked away from them still haunts him almost every night now since the incident with Sarah.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry." He whimpered, slowly resting his forehead over his knees. Tears streaming down his cheek before he lifted his head again facing the now slightly brightened dark blue sky above his head. The cold breeze blew the tears coldly on his face. Henry licked his lower lip, wetting the dry textured with his tongue.
"I'm sorry I didn't tell any of them. I was too afraid." He whispered.
"I didn't want them to see me differently. I've worked so hard to make them see that I am no longer that Henry. So stop haunting me in my dreams. Please, I beg of you." Henry pleaded, tears running down his face like water. His arms wrapped around his legs closer to his chest. The wind blew stronger towards him, rippling the water before finally still.
"Give me time, I promised, I promised you both I will tell them." He whispered, chin resting over his knees. He took a sharp breath through his nose before he exhaled. He didn't remember how long he was sitting there until the sun finally came out fully, brightening the whole lake and Henry could see beyond the lake that filled with trees.
He suddenly heard a footsteps, cracking of dry leaves and twig that startled him. He jolted, turning his body around to see George carefully stepping down the steps with mugs in his hand.
"How did you know I'm here?" He asks as George handed him the mug. Henry held it shakily, feeling the warmth of the porcelain spreads through his cold fingertips.
"I had a sense you might be here." He replied shortly after setting himself down next to him leaving an inch apart between them. Henry didn't look up nor look into George's face, fear that his gaze alone would make him fold and broke down right then and there.
"I'm fine." Henry whispered at first.
"Don't bullshit me. Fine doesn't make someone crawled out of bed at five in the morning for four days in the row and run towards the last place on earth where he died." He snapped back and caught Henry flinched by his sharp words. He thought he hid it well from everyone else in the house but he was wrong. He didn't reply, gaze lowered over the cup between his palm.
"But I know you need time to open up to people. I am not forcing you to tell me anything nor anyone else. But I want you to know that I am always here Henry. To talk, to listen. You are not alone." He nudged his elbow over his arms but Henry still kept his gaze low.
"I was never alone." Henry suddenly whispered in reply. He sensed George's head snapped almost immediately at him.
"When I was back in Broadmoor, the shadow is always there, following me till I reached New York. Always lurking in the corner, watching over me. There is always something or someone, a wandering souls, a lost spirit, some vengeful, some calm, some- confused."
"This is where I found out June is locked up in Maine. Alex went to save her and I lost my ability to see them since then." He pointed at the lake before him as he remembers Alex and him stood by the dock that day. The way he pushed that bracelet into his palm and June's vision came into his mind.
"How did you lose them?" George asks and Henry forgot how little George knew about his ability, only merely few snips and bits that he told him.
"I died." Henry whispered. A shuddering breaths escaped his lips and later he runs his palm over his face like it helped him to process.
"The guy who took June, he knew I was different. He knew I could see him through his eyes. He didn't like it. So he choked me to death." Henry gaze straightened over the water. He could feel George's gaze burning a hole on the side of his face.
"I was supposed to die that day. I was finally in my family's arms when I realized something." He paused dramatically, lowering his gaze again over the mug in his hand. His cast leg stretched while the other fold under it. The pain throbbed by each movement but Henry ignored it. For the last four days, he had been ignoring the pain pulsating from his ankles and he didn't even tell anyone nor Alex about it.
"I didn't get to say goodbye to Alex. I can't leave him like that so I made a choice to stay and my dad told me I would lose the one thing I had. I always thought it was them but turns out, it was my gift." He continued.
"Since then, I understood what alone meant." He turned to face George staring at him with that careful gaze.
"I know I'm not alone here and I appreciate for you and Joanna keeping your eyes on me." Henry says and finally he could see his gaze softened. A soft smile curved on George's lips before a sigh escaped his nose, "Always kiddo." He taps Henry gently over his back and they both shifts their gaze back on the lake.
The wind blew softly around them sending chills running through their spine. George watched him carefully but Henry didn't move and even though he is wearing Alex's knee length shorts, his pale skin exposed to air, he didn't even shiver by the coldness. But it surprises him when Henry leaned his head gently over the side of his arm letting out a breath of relief through his lungs.
They sat there for a while, letting the sun shined brightly, warmth crept through them and the mug had gone cold in their hands. "Hey Dad." Henry suddenly spoke, head still leaned against George's arm. "Yeah?" George replied.
"If you given a chance to see Colin again, what would you say to him?" He suddenly asks and it triggered something in George. His brows furrowed, silent filled him and Henry sensed his awkward silence that made him pulled away from him.
"I- I didn't mean it like that. Forget what I asks. I-I'm sorry." He said, eyes pleading for his forgiveness. "Henry, stop." He raised his palm before him, eyes locked.
"I was never asks about him in a very, very long time. You caught me off guard." He explained and Henry nodded softly.
"I guess I always wanted to know whether it gets lonely out there, alone. Did he ever get bored waiting for us? Does he know how much we break apart after he let go that final breaths. Worst of all, I wonder if it still hurts?" His voice choked at the end and George cleared his throat gently.
"But the one thing I wanted to asks him is, whether he did send you to us? To help us heal or to help you heal? That this new family is what we deserve after years of suffering through his lost. Do we even deserve even the slightest joy while he's up there alone, watching us love someone else other than him. Honestly Henry, I have thousands of questions for him. But those questions would never be answered and I chose not to ponder in what probability and instead, I chose to live in the present and believe that one day, we would see each other again and all my answers will be there waiting for me." He could see tears glistening in Henry's eyes before he pulls it away.
"Why did you asks?" He could see Henry silently swallowed his throat, pressing his lips harder. "Just- curious." He replied shortly.
George let Henry sat there in silence before he told him they should head back to the house. The cup is empty as George carries it in his hand while Henry walked back with the crutches under his arm.
He took his step carefully over the steps, holding on to the mossy walls when he gasped and leaned on his side. He didn't care for the dirt over the stone wall brushing against his shirt when George realized he was holding his pain.
"What is it?" He asks and Henry pressed his lips harder, eyes closed as he softly exhaled through his pursed lips.
"Nothing, just cramps, I think." He lied, but somehow George could sense his pain by the grip he had over the crutches turning his knuckles white.
"Lean on me." George pulled Henry's arm over his shoulder as he helped carried him back to the top. It took Henry multiple times to stop and catch his breath from the pain and each time George would scanned him for any signs of distress.
By the time they reached the house, Henry crushed down over the couch, letting his cast leg rests over the ottoman. George had disappeared into the kitchen when he returned with a small glass bottle in his hand and Henry watched as he carefully sat by the ottoman and set his legs over George's lap. "This will help." He says as he poured the ointment into his palm and rubs it together between his palm.
The warmth spread through Henry's calf as he massaged his pale skin and the heat radiates through his entire legs sending relieved over Henry's aching muscles.
"Can we removed this please? It feels so uncomfortable lately." He noted but George had already examining him, putting his fingers under Henry's cast, carefully pressing his calf to see if its swollen while asking to wiggle his toes for him.
"We'll see in couple of days. If its too painful then we will remove it to release the pressure." George stated as he set Henry's leg back on the ottoman. "But until then, you keep those leg up and rest, no more wandering like a voyager!" He warned Henry and it made him laughs.
"I am merely a scholar. We don't voyage, we explore into the unknown without curiosity." Henry spat.
"Well, curiosity kills the cat." George stated as he stood.
"But satisfaction brought it back." Henry replied. George glared at him with an equal smile. "Stay here. I'll make breakfast." He told him as he backing away on his heel towards the kitchen. Henry watched him silently disappear down the hall and later sounds of him talking to the kitchen staff, with plates and pots clanking indicating him prepping their breakfast like always.
Henry stayed, leaning himself against the couch, face grimacing in pain but he held it as strongly as he could.
"Morning Henry." Zahra greeted him from the staircase as she slowly walked down with Oscar in her arms and Ellie right in front of her. Her small hands clutching on the bannister as she took one step at the time to descend. Later she could see Joanna followed from behind, smiling as she always does every morning she woke up. "Morning darling."
"Morning Zar, Mum." Henry greeted back with a smile. His neck craned over the back of the couch to see them finally descend in a traitorously slow steps before Ellie jumped on the final one with a grin on her face.
"Morning uncle Henry!" She yelled out as she run towards him on the couch. She jumped into his arms with no pause, hitting Henry roughly over his chest that made him huffed his breaths. "Eleanor! Be gentle!" Zahra yelled behind him but Henry didn't mind it at all. He loves her chaotic mess and her enthusiasm in doing everything. Something about her behavior reminded him of a certain someone that probably still asleep in his room.
"Don't worry. I'm stronger than you thinks." He winked back at her, pulling her into the couch next to her.
"I swear one of these days!" She gouged her eyes at her that made her hid deeper into Henry's side, hiding her face behind his shirt. Henry snickered a laugh cause he knew for a fact that no one would be able to hide from her threatening gaze.
"Leave her be. Girls needs to be strong like a hurricane. right Ellie bear?" She grabbed Henry by his chin from behind the couch and pressed her lips gently over his cheek. Elle cheered, holding out her arms to show how strong she is to her mother that made Henry smiled. But he noticed how Joanna still had her hands over his cheek, eyes scanning his entire face with a furrowed gaze.
"You haven't slept my darling. Are you alright?" She asks, whispering in low tone. "I'm fine." He pushed her hand away from his face gently but Joanna wasn't easily convinced but decides she didn't want to hover much. "I'll come back." She told him, ruffling her fingers over his blonde hair and left after exchanging glances at Zahra.
Oscar stirred, letting out a small whimper in her arms that caught Henry's gaze. His small hands fisted into the air, opening and closing as she bounced him with a soft hush. Henry didn't remove his gaze from him and didn't even realized Zahra was still frowning.
But before he could say anything, she shoved the small infant into his arms. Henry cradled him awkwardly, one palm under his small head and the other over his small behind. His whole body curled almost immediately in Henry's grip.
"Take him. I wanna make his bottle." She says before leaving him alone in that couch, completely trusting him to take care of her children. "Uhm- Zar.." He barely got the words out before she disappeared into the kitchen and later he heard her voice greeting George.
He turned to Oscar in his palm, raised before his chest with Elle staring at him, curious. He let out a breath before pulling Oscar carefully into his forearm and he could see him fully awake. "Hi sweet boy." He whispered, booping his finger over his nose. Oscar closed his eyes for a second before opened them, revealing the dark brown orbs that somewhat similar to the man he loves most.
Oscar is staring directly at him, eyes locked in his with that beautiful eyelashes fluttering over his lid. His tongue sucking over his top palate, there's a milk residue on the corner of his lips but Henry wiped it with the pad of his thumb. Elle was sitting quietly next to him, staring at her baby brother in Henry's arms.
"Uncle Henry?" She called quietly, knees folded on the couch, eyes still fixed over her brother. "Yes princess?" Henry replied sweetly.
"Did you remember when I was this small?" She asks, pointing her fingers at her brother. Henry jerked his head at her, eyes searching for hers but something clenched in his stomach. "Uhm- " He couldn't find the words for her.
"Honey, when you're were born, you were born too early. So I didn't get to see you much, you were kept inside until your body could received visitors." Henry told her and she was quiet, again.
"Is that why you left?" She asks, finally lifting her gaze at him him. Her brown eyes lowered fluttering those full sets of lashes that matches Alex but her question caught him off guard.
"No my darling. I left because I hurt everyone by being there. I need to fix myself so I left." Henry explained, best that he could. "Are you fixed now?" She asks.
"Uhm- " Henry flinched, eyes darted towards his broken ankle and the now reddish scar under his thigh that was left exposed. "I'm getting there." He says, smiling widely at her. But his smile made her grinned, happy with his answers before wrapping her arms around his neck. Henry had to avert Oscar away so she won't crush her but not without hurting her feelings of being rejected.
"Good, I like you here." She says, causing Henry to retract back facing her. "What do you mean by that?" He asks, surprised. "Uncle Alex and daddy talks more now since you are here." She replied and something hits him in the center of his stomach. For years he thought Shaan and Alex had a good relationship despite him being gone but he knew now that he was mistaken.
"Elle! What are you're telling uncle Henry now?" Shaan's voice echoed from the stairs and Henry turned almost immediately towards him. He was wearing a rather simple plain shirt and shorts, bare footing as he walked towards them.
"Nothing daddy." She uttered, climbing rapidly off the couch and before he could grab her, she ran towards the kitchen where the rest of them were.
"Don't mind her Henry. She doesn't know anything." He told him, softly running his palm over his son's head.
"You'd be surprised how much children pays attention to their surroundings. I know I did." Henry replied, trailing his finger over Oscar's cheek. Shaan sighs, gently sitting over the arm rest, his back hunched with his gaze forward.
"After you left, Alex and I had uhm- we got cold." He starts. Henry stares at the side of his face, scuffed beard covering his jaw. He had his head hung low, palms clasped between his thighs.
"We barely said anything, I think because neither of us could look into each other without thinking about you. It took us a while but whenever we talk, there's always a room for arguments. Every one conversation would ended with us yelling at each other." Shaan explained. Henry took another breath through his nose and later softly exhaling out of his lungs. Oscar had somehow fell asleep in his arms, wrapped neatly in Henry's warmth.
"Sometimes I let him cause I know how much he needed it. To yell at someone so he could vent his feelings." He continued but Henry stayed silent next to him.
"But I'm glad you're back. So he can starts yelling at you again and not me." Henry glared back at him, before a smile formed on his face.
"He can try. George would wrung him on his neck if he ever raised his voice at me." Henry teased, smiling sheepishly at him. Shaan laughed, tapping his shoulder lightly.
"Come on. I'll take him, you can go have your breakfast." Shaan raised his palm towards Henry to grab Oscar but he held back from him. "Don't you dare." Henry warned, Shaan snickered a smile, pulling his hands away from him. "Alright." He withdrawn, stepping away from the couch and silently headed straight towards the kitchen.
Henry was yet left alone on the couch, Oscar in his arms, sleeping peacefully. He smiles grew, staring at the cuteness of his small snores just like his uncle.
"You don't know it yet little one but you are so lucky to be born into this family. I know I am." Henry whispered the last words into Oscar's ear before pressing his lips into his chubby cheeks. He could smothered himself into his scent all day but Oscar won't like it.
"Alright, bottle is ready." Zahra came shortly after and stopped when she saw Oscar fell asleep right in Henry's arm. Her eyes wide, her mouth falls opened, surprised.
"You have got to teach me how you did that!" She whispered from behind the couch and Henry smiled. "Easy. I don't smell like milk all the time." Henry says and it knocked some sense into her. She sighed desperately but instantly as she leaned closer behind the couch, Oscar stirred.
"See?" Henry told her confirming his words exactly. She huffed her breath but grabbed the baby from Henry's arm instead when he starts to wail louder.
"Come on. George made French toast." He told him, nudging her head over for Henry to follow. But he sat there, smiling back at her politely. "Its fine, I'll be there in a minute." Henry told her and she shrugged, walking away with Oscar, feeding him the bottle of milk.
As soon as Zahra left, Henry finally let his guard down and winced in pain. The pressure he felt over his heels grew more and more since he got back from the lake. He leaned forward, pressing his calf trying to ease the pain although he can't reach the actual parts.
"Christ." He muttered, exhaling his breaths with his head hung low.
"Henry." George's voice echoed from the kitchen and he immediately hides his grimaced away from him. "Breakfast, now!" His voice roared in a commanding tone.
"Coming!" Henry yelled back, sighing before grabbing the crutches on the side and pushed himself off the couch.
.
The pain grew more and more and Henry couldn't stand it any longer. After breakfast, he rushed back into the bedroom, grabbing his medicine pack from the hospital that has his painkillers and immediately popped two inside his mouth and drowned it with a glass of water on the bedside.
Alex has already awake and still in the bathroom when Henry got into the bedroom. But the moment he got out of the bathroom after brushing his teeth and washing his face, he caught him sitting by the edge of the bed, massaging his calf painfully with a hissed.
"What happened?" He asks, immediately rushing to Henry's knees.
"N-Nothing. It's just, it's too much pressure down there." Henry told him, pointing at the lower part of his cast. Alex held his leg over his thigh, trying to see if there is anything he can do to help easing the pain but nothing about Henry's cast looks out of ordinary.
"I wish I could just cut this out. It itch!" Henry's voiced out his frustration, banging his cast over the side table and ended up hurting himself more. He groaned in pain, clutching the cast on the side.
"Calm down baby. Wait here." Alex pushed himself from the floor and grabbed the tapestry hung on the wall. He pulled the small thin rod that used to hung the art before he kneeled back by Henry's feet. He grabbed Henry by his ankle, resting his cast over his thigh with a smile on his face.
"Don't tell George about this, he's going to kill me if he knew. You are not supposed to do this but I know for a fact that this will help." He says as he pushed the wooden rod into Henry's cast gently and began scratching his skin carefully. Henry moaned, pressing his lips harder with his hand clutching on Alex's shoulder.
"How old?" Henry asks him and Alex caught by surprise. He lifted his gaze, mouth halfway opened in shocked.
"I was eleven. I fall from climbing trees and need a cast for like six weeks. My mum was livid and I spent my six weeks living in a house with a drill sergeant." Henry chuckled at his story but Alex retorts back, offended by his laughter.
"Oh you don't know my mum. She can be the nicest woman you'd ever known but she can make a Russian spy fold and tell her every secrets he knows. Believe me." Henry laughs harder, noticed how Alex stares at him from the floor still holding on to his cast.
"I wish you could meet her, and pops." He whispered, eyes stares at Henry's ring glistening on his finger. "Tell me about him." He smiled when Alex shifts his gaze towards him. He sat on the floor, holding Henry's leg like a pillow for comfort.
"They always said that if my mum was the storm, Pops is the ground holding her rage. He was the kindest man I knew. Smart. He would make a great Poppy to Elle. I know he's going to spoil her rotten if he still alive. He took us in after my dad died, didn't even hesitate raising us even though we're not his by blood." Henry noticed Alex's eyes glistened in tear and later a single drop on his cheek.
Henry raised his palm over Alex's cheek, rubbing his thumb over the tears that fallen. "I wish you could meet them Hen. They would have love you the way I do." His tears falls further but Henry didn't hesitated. He straddled Alex on the floor, arms wrapped around his neck pulling his head over his chest. He could feel Alex shudder under his touch, shoulders sobs in tears as he clung around his waist.
"We will meet them one day. Not that I'm counting or anything but I know they are so proud of you Alex. For everything you fought for in your life. For not giving up on me. You've done your best to protect this family and I could never, ever repay you back, not even with my life." Henry's voice choked, causing Alex to push him a little to face him.
"Baby, you don't have to. You love me for what I am and that is enough for me. You are all I need right now." Alex whispered, slightly raised his face to meet Henrys gaze.
Henry smiled, leaning down to Alex's lips letting their breaths ghosted around their lips before he finally pressed deeper into a kiss. Alex inhaled his breath sharply, tasting the sweet syrup on Henry's lips.
"George made French toast?" He asks, pulling his head back almost pushing Henry off from his lap. "Wha- ?" Henry's mouth fell, surprised by his gesture.
"I'm sorry baby but I'm hungry and I had been craving for George's French toast since we were back in Portland." He grabbed Henry on his lap and almost threw him on the bed. He bounced, trying his best hiding the smile formed but he failed. He ended up giggling like a teen girl when Alex used his strength to lift him off the floor.
"Want me to carry you?" He offered, running his hands through his curls. Henry contemplates, deliberately delaying his answers but he could see Alex fidgeting on his feet, edging to run off to the kitchen with grumbling stomach.
"Babe?" Alex called, sensing the silent from Henry but couldn't deny the lingering gaze from Henry in bed. His eyes moves up and down his body with that lusting gaze that made Alex smirked. "Honey, now is not the time. I'm starving, come on!" He grabbed Henry but immediately after he lifted Henry off the bed, he winced painfully at his cast.
"Arghh.." He hissed, grabbing Alex's shoulder in a tight clutched. His fingers clutching over the side of his thigh achingly. "I think I stay." He plopped back in bed, face grimacing in pain.
"Let me get George." Alex wanted to rush out but Henry pulled him back by his wrist.
"N-NO! Don't! Please. I don't want him to make a fuss about it." Henry lifted his leg up on the bed, then later Alex helped placing the pillow under his leg.
"I'm not making fuss enough for you?" He asks, voice sounded hurt but Henry caught his hand immediately. "No baby. But I don't want him shoving me into the car and dragged me to the hospital. I just took the pain killers, it'll be fine." Henry reassured, his thumb stroking over Alex's knuckles. "What makes you think I won't shoved you in the car and dragged you to the hospital myself?" Alex argued.
Henry let out a long exhaled, head falls behind over his stacked pillows. Alex watched his throat bobbed up and down as he swallowed. "Please. I barely got here for few weeks and I spent half of it in a hospital." Henry made his point and Alex sighed, rubbing his temple staring at Henry in bed.
"I'm alright." Henry reassured. His hand still gripping over Alex's hand. He lifted his gaze at him, towering next to the bed. "Promise me you will let me take care of you and take you to the hospital if needed?" Alex asks, tightening his fingers over Henry's palm. Henry smiled, nodding softly back at him. "Maybe just the urgent care then." Henry replied.
"We'll see." Alex says and Henry glared back at him with a smile.
"I'll come and check on you after breakfast." He says, pressing his mouth over Henry's lips. He hummed, smiling back at him convincingly before Alex left the room. The moment the door clicked close, his smile faded, replaced with a frowned and grimaced over the radiating heat and pain over his ankle.
Henry lowered his gaze down at his propped leg on the pillows and felt the pain pulsating from inside the cast. It burns him, skin pricked like needles and itches where Henry can't reached. But the pills he took earlier had made his head groggy and soon he fell asleep, hoping when he woke up, the pain would be gone.
.
Alex didn't want to leave Henry like this but he knew if he took those medications means he is in tremendous amounts of pain and soon, he will feel groggy and sleepy so he didn't want to distract him from resting and let him stayed in the bedroom for now.
David hovers around his feet, hopping over his knees with his tail wagged. "Daddy need some rest. You can play with him later alright." He hushed him softly, brushing his fingers under its jaw. David almost whined but Alex smiled when he retreated from the door and followed him down the hallway but later disappeared towards the living room.
As Alex turned into the corner, heading straight towards the kitchen, he could hear their voices. It grows louder as he gets closer and Alex was intrigued by George's and Shaan's voice echoing, talking in a rather serious tone. It peaked his curiosity.
"You need to convince him to go back to therapy. This is not healthy!"
"You'd think I didn't know that? I can't force Henry to do things knowing how much he would resent it!"
"Alex might be able to convince him." Zahra's voice chirped in between the conversation.
"I won't." Alex stepped into the kitchen, head spun immediately towards him standing at the entrance.
"Alex you have to know something." Shaan stated first but Alex raised his palm to stop him. "You mean to tell me that my husband has been up for four days and wandered off to the lake until sunrise. Yeah, I know." Alex cuts him off and they all sighs almost in relief at his knowledge of Henry's recent behavior.
"Why didn't you say anything?" George asks. Alex shifts his gaze towards Ellie eating by the table, mouth smeared with syrup dripping down her chin. She was completely oblivious about the adults talking around her. Joanna sat besides her, eyes frowning.
"Henry told me once that he spent his life having everyone decides everything for him. It wasn't his decision when his parents chose to leave to find an answers for his being and later died in a plane crash. It wasn't his decision to be locked away in Broadmoor for a decade. It wasn't his decision to be born with that gift that made his life hell." Alex lifted his gaze towards the rest of them at the table, staring back at him.
"For once, he wanted to be able to make decisions on his own without having anyone telling him what to do. Of course I knew my own husband hasn't been sleeping well, hell we shared the same bed. I followed him for the first two days and I realized he never actually want to step into the water, he just sat there, and cried. I wanted nothing more than to comfort him but if he wants to be comforted, he wouldn't have leave, he would ask. So I give him the benefit of the doubt and let him make his own decisions. So should you all. Stop forcing things on him." Alex says otherwise.
"Alex's right." George told them, his eyes darted towards Alex still standing by the entrance. He placed a plate of French toast on the table for Alex before tapping the chair for him. He smiled, nodding back at him before he stepped into his seat.
Alex finishes his breakfast in two servings and felt his stomach is going to burst. "God George, you're gonna make me die young with your cooking!" He grunted, stroking his belly in fullness although he still had his curved abs carved on his stomach.
"Well considered that we both have a dock to finish, eat well and let's get to work." George sips on his coffee before he sat up and Alex followed. "Can I help?" Shaan stood altogether and Alex smiled, nodding back at him. "Sure. But I'm not sure your pretty delicate fingers would do much anyway." Alex teased but he threw a handful of his napkins towards Alex that he caught graciously still laughing.
"You'll be surprised how this delicate fingers could do some serious damage." He wiggled his fingers at him but Alex snorted back.
"Come on." George pushed Alex on his back headed straight to the door. But before he leaves, Alex turned sharply towards Jo and Zahra still at the table grinning at them.
"Can you keep an eye on Henry? I'm cancelling his PT today, let him rest. We'll be back by lunch." Alex says, waving her by the door. "I swear if it doesn't get better I'm going to drag his ass to the hospital myself." George half yelled from the door that made Alex snickered a smile. Henry was right about him.
But he didn't say anything else or tell George exactly what Henry had told him earlier. Truth was, he might not be able to convince Henry but he knows George could so he would let him talk to Henry later if needed.
