Chapter Ten

"We're taking my car and Caleb will use his," Ruby informs me shorty after we walk out.

"That's okay," I reply walking towards my car. "Where are we headed off to though?" I get in and buckle up.

I still don't trust Caleb and Ruby, heck I don't trust anybody but myself. But since therapy is going way too slow, I have no option but to try this out.

"Oh, you'll see." Ruby replies getting in. I quickly text my mom about all this and then I text my dad too. This is all beginning to feel sketchy. I'm one second away from bolting back into the house.

"Calm down Iris, it's just a museum down town so you and Caleb can talk." She says reassuringly.

Down town. I've never been to Down town. Who am I kidding? I've never even been to uptown.

I put my car in reverse and drive off. I leave in six months, what's the harm in knowing my town a little bit more before then.

"Just follow Caleb's car okay?" Iris nods at me and we drive off.

Thirty minutes and alot of driving instructions from Ruby later, we're parked in front of an odd looking building. It doesn't really look like much of a museum but I don't comment.

"Okay, so all you need to do is hold my hand and forget that there's anyone else here with you," she says looking at me and then giving me a bright smile.

"I'm sure you brought your pocket knife," she adds. I nod slowly. "Good, no one can hurt you now, you're stronger okay."

We walk into the building and I take a seat with Ruby, my eyes wander around the room and all I see are a bunch of well dressed women with men. Alot of men. Paintings surround the walls but they are also alot of seats and shady areas.

"I don't feel comfortable Ruby, I don't feel comfortable at all," I squirm in my seat and bite my lip. Ruby looks away like she doesn't even notice my discomfort.

"Where is Caleb?" I ask. I completely lost him along the way. He took a right turn at some point and we took a left. Ruby claimed it was a short cut. More time to settle before he shows up.

When she doesn't answer my previous question, I pin my eyes on the table refusing to look up and acknowledge the fact that I'm surrounded in a room full of men. Why, there's even one seated before me. Positive thoughts Iris.

"He's probably parking his car, he'll be here soon. She says finally. "Listen Iris, I know you feel like I'm rushing you but you'll never get over it if you stay indoors all day." She adds solemnly pushing her chair back so she can lower her eyes to my level.

And I almost believe her, I almost agree with everything she's saying till the guy behind me stands up, his stair screeching as he pulls it backwards.

All I see is his shoe, his black polished shoe, huge, he had to be huge. What if he decides to hurt me seeing as I obviously don't belong here.

That's all it takes for me to bolt out of the building like I have fire in my pants.

My heart beats erratically, I bend down and place my hand on my knees trying to catch my breath, I look backwards waiting to see if anyone would follow me.

Ruby doesn't make a move to come out and so I look at my surroundings, the building's are all broken down and the people sketchy, the streets are basically empty and the whole air feels Misty and un-lived. I had watched enough documentaries to know what would happen to me next.

I curl myself into a ball at the side of the building behind a dumpster and wait for Ruby to come out. If I am lucky enough no one will notice me. I wish at this point that I could disappear.

I bite my lips so hard I taste something metallic in my mouth. Ruby knows I don't I have no clue on how to drive myself back home and the valet who parked my car is no where to be seen, why was she doing this to me?

Tears fill my eyes. So this is what you get for trusting people.

The sounds of shouting startle me and I raise my head from the little cradle I had created for them with my hands.

"This wasn't what we agreed on Ruby."

Caleb, that is Caleb's voice.

I squint my eyes adjusting them to the darkness. Caleb and Ruby are stood in front of the building I just ran out of.

I decide to listen before I react, it is clear I know nothing about these people and what their true intentions are, the darkness does a good job of making it look there's no one behind the dumpster close to them hence I stay hidden.

Besides I was used to listening, it was all I could do when grandpa and his friends talked, I stayed quiet and listened.

That was why I survived, I can survive whatever this is too. If I just listened.

"She'll never get better if we continue treating her that way, she has to learn to face her fears Caleb, you're running out of time," Ruby screams in response, her voice rising higher than Caleb's.

He paces around for a while and kicks a small pebble with so much force I whimper. "That wasn't for you to decide Ruby, you had no right to interfere in this, I know you just want to help but back off." His chest rises when he says his final last words. There's literally no space between him and Ruby right now.

"Well excuse me for wanting to help my pathetic excuse for a brother," Ruby says in defeat her voice lowering to that of a whisper, I have to strain my ears to understand what she says, I look up and see her walking away.

"Ruby, come back I'm sorry," Caleb screams after her but she doesn't turn back.

"At least help me find her," Caleb screams at her his voice breaking as he rushes up towards her and puts his hand on her shoulder.

I hear her light chuckle echo through the streets.

"Iris," they both scream simultaneously into the air disturbing the peaceful nature of the slums.

They start walking farther away from me. I quickly scrabble out of my hiding place not wanting to be left here all alone. The enemies you know are far better than those you don't know.

I stand up and dust my dress about to break off into a sprint so I can catch up to them quickly.

Suddenly, I feel a hand clamp over my mouth and I freeze, I can't move. It feels like I'm paralyzed and my head is empty.

"What exactly are you doing on this side of town princess?" A cold menacing voice whispers in my ear. "I never thought you'd step out of your castle anytime soon." I can't see his face, he's this huge shape behind me. I begin hyperventilating immediately my mind registers what is about to happen. I thrash my body trying to break free.

"I guess today's my lucky day then."
The last thing I hear before a cloth comes down on my nose and black spots fill my vision.

Do you need a double update!!!!?
