1. Punches

This bad boy has been sitting my drafts for over a year since I unpublished awhile back. I have a pretty good understanding of where I wanna go with this so I'm bringing it back. This chapter is the same as before but the second one is being rewritten (: enjoy!

"You're such a fag!" a voice cackled. "What're you doin' after school, Dun? You goin' go home 'nd blow your dad?"

"Can't. I alrea'y have plans fuckin' yours tonight," Josh replied, earning a punch to his jaw.

"Shut the hell up!"

"How was your weekend, Mr. Iero?" A voice interrupted Frank, whose fist was raised and ready to land another blow to Josh's stomach. Instantly he dropped his hand and turned around.

"Uhh, it was fine Mr. Weekes. Thanks for askin'," the black haired boy faked a smile, tucking his blood-covered hand behind his back. As if Mr. Weekes hadn't just watched him deck Josh in the face. "You?"

"It was good. What were you just doing there, Frank?"

"Jus' talkin' ta my pal, Josh."

"Uh huh, I punch my friends when I talk to them too. C'mon, lets go to the office," Mr. Weekes gestured for Frank to walk with him. He grumbled and glared at Josh.

"This ain't over, freak."

Josh didn't reply as he watched the two begin to walk off. Suddenly, Mr. Weekes turned around and gave him a soft smile which Josh tried returning until pain shot through his mouth. "Fuck," he mumbled, rubbing his jaw gently. He grabbed his bag off of the dirty hallway and slung it over his shoulder, walking to the nurse.

When he walked in, Josh noticed the room wasn't empty like it usually was. There was a guy with brown hair sitting on a cot, holding an ice pack to his head. He didn't look familiar which confused Josh because his school was reasonably small. Small enough for him to at least be able to match a name with the brunette. Sadly, nothing came to mind.

"I'll be right with ya Josh," the nurse spoke up. Her name was Nurse Williams and she was a young woman in her late twenties with platinum blonde hair that was currently sitting in braids on either side of her head. "Are ya feeling any better?" She asked Random Dude.

"A little," he replied in a soft voice.

"That Ibuprofen I gave ya should be kickin' in. I still can' believe some kid tripped ya walkin' down the bus steps," she said sadly. "That's a hell of a first day to have."

"It represents my life pretty accurately though," he nervously chuckled.

"It ain't goin' get much better here in Missouri," Nurse Williams laughed softly. "What can I do for ya, Josh?" She turned to face the cotton candy pink haired man.

"Frank decided ta say good mornin' ta me," he smiled weakly while pointing to the dried blood under his nose.

Nurse Williams stood up from her chair and grabbed another ice pack along with an alcohol wipe for his face before sitting back down. "C'mere, idiot," she waved Josh over and tore open the wipe before gently removing the crusted-on blood. Random Dude laughed and Josh gave another small smile. "Ya really gotta stop that kid from gettin' ya. He's a small, insecure little thing. Show 'em who's boss."

"It ain't that simple," Josh sighed.

"Sure it is," she dropped the now red wipe into the wastebasket by her desk. Rolling over in her chair, Nurse Williams ripped two paper towels from the despenser and wrapped them around the ice pack, handing it to Josh. "Ya can go sit by Tyler."

Josh looked over and saw Random Guy looking at him. Once he was figured out his eyes flicked down to the floor. It was then that the pink haired boy connected the dots, realizing that he was Tyler. Taking a seat next to him, Josh gently placed the ice pack on his jaw, sighing in pleasure as he pain began to ease.

It was silent for a good while, the only noise being Nurse Williams' fingers typing on the keyboard until finally Josh spoke up. "So someone tripped ya on the bus?"

"Uh, yeah," Tyler replied. "I was walking off and some kid stuck his foot out on the last step and I hit the cement. I'm lucky I wasn't bleeding."

"Who was it?"

"I don't know his name but he had red hair and was standing with a guy with blond hair–"

"That's Gerard Way 'nd his idiot brother. They're Frank's goons, the guy who beat me up. He calls me a fag but everyone knows he goes 'nd sucks Gerard's dick durin' sixth period," he whispered the last part making Tyler laugh. Suddenly, he stopped, worried.

"Hey is that blood on your shoe? Did he hit you that hard?"

Josh looked at his Converse and noticed a faint blood splatter on the toe of the shoe. Fuck, he thought. "Uh... yeah... I'm fine though," he gave him a reassuring smile. "Nurse Williams say it was your first day here?"

"Yeah," he shrugged. "Great way to kick off sophomore year."

"I hate ta break it to ya but I'm a senior and so far this year fuckin' blows just as bad as sophomore year did."

"Language," Nurse Williams cut in but Josh knew she was just obliged to say that.

"Where'd ya move from?" Josh asked.

"Louisiana."

"Ew."

"I know."

"Even Missouri ain't that bad," he laughed. "Ain't there vampires or some shit in Louisiana?"

"Wouldn't surprise me if there were," Tyler chuckled. "It was a weird place."

"Hey when ya boys are ready to get back ta class your passes are right 'ere," Nurse Williams interrupted, pointing to the two slips of paper on her desk. "And language," she lightly scolded making the two crack a smile.

Tyler stood up and walked over to get his pass, handing the nurse his ice pack. Not wanting to sit alone, Josh hopped up as well and returned his ice pack too. "Thanks Nurse Williams," Tyler said in his small voice as he gave her a gentle smile.

"Don' worry about it, honey. It's my job ta take care of ya."

"Yeah but thanks for not being a bitch about it," Josh clarified.

"Joshua Dun!" She scolded, trying to hide her grin. Josh snickered and grabbed his own pass.

"We'll see ya around," he told her as he opened the door, letting Tyler walk out first.

"Be safe ya two!" She called before the door shut, leaving the two boys in the empty hallway.

"Where ya headed?" Josh asked, noticing Tyler was looking at the schedule on his phone.

"Uh... Honors Algebra Two with Christopher. Do you know how to get there?"

"You'll like her, she's chill," the pink haired boy assured. "If ya go down this hall," he pointed toward a set of doors. "It's the first class on your left. There's a sign 'nd everything."

"Thanks," Tyler said sincerely, smiling at Josh.

"No problem," he couldn't help but return the smile despite the searing pain in his mouth. "See ya around, Tyler."

"See you, Josh."
