After a long drive, we finally arrived at Kroger. The parking lot was almost vacant, considering most people didn't buy groceries after midnight. We strolled into the large building, not really having to worry about cars all that much.
"Okay, we're in and out in ten minutes, got it?" I said.
"But I want some food," Annabelle whined.
"You just ate!" Mack laughed.
"Athlete's metabolism?" Annabelle shrugged.
"Fine! We'll get a little snack, and a sweatshirt for Mack." I said, finalizing our plans.
"You rhymed!" Annabelle giggled.
"Yeah, it is kinda funny," I laughed, and soon we were all walking into Kroger, a little bunch with big laughs. What happened next, the unexpected didn't even expect. Mack's mom was standing right in the middle of the food department. We all just kind of stood there, frozen in fear of what she would say should she find us.
"What is she doing here?" I harsh-whispered at Mack.
"I was staying at my dad's! I didn't know!" Mack replied defensively.
"Don't you guys have a shopping chart?" Annabelle piped up. Mack and I just stared at her in wonderment of how weird her family was sometimes. "What? My family can be organized." Annabelle crossed her arms and started sulking, her childish reaction to our insults.
"What do we do?" Mack started panicking as her mom advanced to the deli, which was closer to our little hiding spot in Subway.
"We run!" And with that, I grabbed Annabelle and Mack by the arm and pulled them across the store to the women's clothing.
"But look, fifty percent off cookies!" Annabelle whined, stretching her arms towards the desert section.
"We don't have time!" I pulled Annabelle harder towards the women's clothing.
Once we were safely hidden behind the racks of clothing, yet another obstacle started approaching us. It was Cam Brimer, again. He didn't seem to notice us, as he started heading over to the cookies. I guess he and Annabelle do think alike.
"See, I'm not the only one that thinks it's a good deal," Annabelle crossed her arms and continued looking through the racks to find a jacket for Mack. After about ten minutes, we had what must have been ten different sweatshirts for Mack to try on, and were off to the dressing room.
