A warm breeze rushed passed Audrey as she sat quietly on the porch outside of Ron's room. It was a new day at the Burrow, and just as the day before, the girl honestly had no idea what to expect. In her hand, she held the folded up letter she had gotten in response from Draco. She had read it several times already, but yet she was still positively sure that this night was going to go terribly. She slowly unfolded the note once again, just to make sure she had in fact read it correctly...
'Audrey,
I suppose I will come to dinner. I'm not sure it will go well, but I suppose at this point, what do I honestly have to lose? I apologize in advance if I blow up on someone; I'm sure Potter is there so I can't guarantee I can hold my tongue.
I have found my parents safely. They are in Dublin with my aunt and uncle. I think we'll be staying here for a while, but I'm not exactly sure. We're pretty positive that the Ministry will begin hunting the remainder of the Death Eaters down, so I think the plan is to lay low for a while. During that time, I'm going to try to divide my time as evenly as possible between them and you.
But I digress. I'd continue writing, but Artemis insists dinner is done, so I should probably go eat before my food gets cold. I'll see you tomorrow.
Love and miss you,
Draco'
Audrey sighed and folded the note back up, stowing it in her pocket. So he was coming, she thought. She wasn't sure when, or how, but she knew Draco was coming. Audrey was honestly not looking forward to the night's activities. She was incredibly nervous about bringing Draco around the Weasleys. The families had never been friendly towards each other; seeing them in the same building usually meant a battle.
The girl stared out over the land, lost in her own thoughts. She really thought that this night was going to go dreadfully. Between both Draco and Harry's fiery tempers, Audrey was sure a brawl was going to break out over the dinner. She sincerely hoped that was not the case. Right now, Audrey wanted nothing more than this dinner to go well. If the Weasleys could approve of Draco, then she really saw no reason her parents couldn't.
Her thoughts were interrupted when she saw a flash of red out of the corner of her eye. Audrey turned to see Ron standing next to her, leaning against the railing. "What are you doing out here by yourself?" he asked. "Shouldn't you be inside with the girls?"
Audrey shook her head. "Eh... just got a lot on my mind right now. Thought some fresh air would do me some good. Hope you don't mind me standing here."
"Oh no, you're fine. And I can imagine so," Ron muttered. "What did Mal- err... I mean Draco say about dinner?"
Audrey smiled slightly when Ron corrected himself. "He said he'd come, but it's exactly that I'm worried about."
"You think someone will try to start something?" Ron inquired.
She nodded in response. "I'm afraid some of you might be extremely judgmental of him... and I'm sure there will be a fight over his past behavior. Quite frankly I'm just sure this whole dinner is going to be hellacious."
"Oh don't worry about it! We got this under control," Ron assured. "Only one who might be stupid is Harry, and we all got him in check. Everyone else has your back! Mum, dad, Nicole, Ginny, Fred and George..."
"That's great to know," Audrey sighed, though she still wasn't reassured by that. She didn't speak for several moments before she remembered something. "Speaking of Nicole, how do you feel about her?"
Ron seemed a bit baffled by the question. He gave her a confused look before he asked a question himself. "What do you mean?"
"I mean exactly that. How do you feel about her?" Audrey repeated the inquiry, a smile on her face.
Ron shrugged his shoulders. "I dunno... she's a real good friend. She's... kinda pretty. Why do you ask?"
"Just 'kinda' pretty?" Audrey raised an eyebrow at his statement, and ignoring his inquiry.
Ron sighed and glanced up at the sky. "More like really pretty."
Audrey smirked. "Have you told her that?"
"I always thought she would laugh at me," Ron admitted. "She's out of my league. Plus she's my sister's best friend."
Audrey rolled her eyes at that excuse. "So? Harry's with your sister. Why can't you be with your sister's best friend?" When Ron didn't give her an answer, she continued. "Ron... I may not have been her friend for very long, but if there's one thing I know about Nicole it's that she likes you a lot. I even remember when we were at Hogwarts and she would follow you around, hoping you'd notice her."
"You're joking right?" Ron questioned. "She didn't seriously do that, did she?"
Audrey gave him an expectant look. "No, Ronald. I'm being dead serious with you. She likes you. A lot. I'm only telling you this because she's too shy to do it for herself. And I've witnessed too many good things like this go to waste because of someone being shy."
Ron didn't say anything for a few minutes, as if he was thinking it over in his head. "Is that what happened with you and Draco? Too shy to say anything about it?"
"Something like that," Audrey said quietly, recalling all of the events that had led up to that fateful day when both their feelings had become known. She had thought it was too good to be true, not mention she was a tad disappointed that they hadn't told each other sooner. "In fact, you two remind me a lot of Draco and I. One was too shy to say anything, and the other thinks that they wouldn't stand a chance."
"Which one were you?" Ron laughed.
"I was the shy one," Audrey admitted. "But I overcame my timidity at his birthday party. I knew it was then or never. And well... it worked in my favor."
Ron maneuvered himself so he was more comfortable on the rail. "Well that's great then. I'm honestly very happy for you guys. As long as he makes you happy I guess I'm cool with that."
Audrey found that a bit strange coming from someone she hadn't been close to up until recently, but at the same time she found it to be very reassuring. "Thanks Ron. Just do me a favor?" He gave her a look, causing her to continue. "Talk to Nicole. Tell her how you feel. It'll mean a lot to the both of us."
"I will before we eat," Ron promised. "Now why don't you get inside and get ready for dinner? I'm sure you want to get all dressed up for him."
Audrey smiled. "Alright, alright. I will."
With that note, she and Ron went back inside. Audrey immediately went to find Nicole, and to change into something more presentable than jeans and a t-shirt. The latter of which she decided would wait until right before supper. She found Nicole and Ginny sitting in the dining room, setting the table for supper.
"You guys are already setting up?" she asked, casually leaning against the wall.
Ginny rolled her eyes. "Yea, mum is cooking already too. I hope your man gets here in time. I think it's going to be an early dinner tonight."
"I'm sure he'll get here in time," Audrey assured herself more than anyone. She glanced around, making sure that they were the only three in the room. "So I talked to Ron," she whispered.
"Did you?" Nicole asked, hardly able to hide the excitement from her voice. Audrey knew that on the inside, Nicole was screaming as loud as she could."What about?"
"Oh... I just told him that you really liked him," Audrey said. "He said he thought you were pretty, and that he was going to talk to you before dinner."
A huge smile stretched across Nicole's face. "Really?"
Audrey nodded. "Mmhm, and shhh... I didn't tell you." She winked. "I'll be back down in a moment. I'm going to get changed into something a little nicer."
"We'll be here!" Ginny replied. "Get back soon so you can help!"
She walked away from her friends and up to Ginny's room where her trunk was sitting. Audrey knelt down next to her trunk at the end of the bed, wondering what she had actually packed. Before she could open the chest, she noticed a piece of parchment sitting on top of it. Audrey picked it up, unsure of who it was from. The girl unfolded it only to find one sentence scribbled across it:
'McCarthy, if you value your life, stay away from Draco Malfoy.'
