Chapter 3: Welcome Home, Astrid
-Astrid-
I closed my eyes.
I felt the wind blowing straight in my face, and it felt so refreshing.
The mixed scent between the sea and mountains made me feel free.
I stretched my body and then I stretched my hands out to my sides.
Stormfly squeaked happily, like she felt the exact same way as me.
I've always wondered about how it would be if I were a dragon.
How it would be to glide in the air, and soar high up into the skies without worrying about falling off.
I had a flashback to my first flight with Hiccup.
Suddenly, I didn't feel so free anymore.
I sat back down in the saddle and furrowed my brows.
I thought about my fight with Hiccup.
I shook my head, trying to get the thought out.
I focused on what was right in front of me.
The sunset.
The sun being swallowed by the sea, creating a beautiful mix of yellow, pink and purple.
Again, I furrowed my brows.
This can't happen every time you fight with him, Astrid! You've got to be able to watch the sunset without thinking about him!
And then a beautiful memory jumped into my mind.
The day I became Hiccup's girlfriend.
My heart warmed up, and I felt like I was going to melt.
That was maybe the happiest moment of my life.
For a second, the pain in my arm faded away.
I felt Stormfly speed up, and that tore me away from my memory.
I focused on what was in front of me, and I could see Berk.
My birthplace and the home of my heart.
As I flew over the island, I saw people looking up.
The children looked starstruck and they pointed at me as they tugged on their parent's dress or pants.
Stormfly and I flew up to Gothi and landed on the tiny balcony outside of her small wooden hut.
I got off Stormfly.
Gothi wagged out, and smiled when she saw me.
She shifted her look down to my arm and furrowed her eyebrows.
"Um... I was really mad, and I think I broke my arm again" I told her.
She sighed.
Gothi grabbed my healthy arm and dragged me into her hut.
She sat me down on a wooden stool in the corner of the room.
The room wasn't too big.
It had a small bed in one corner, with a wooden bedside table beside it, and in the other corner she had a table and two stools.
In another corner she had all of her medical things.
In the middle of the room, she had a big black cauldron.
She finished up, and turned back to me.
She handed me an arm support made out of wool, and then she threw some sand on the floor.
She drew some figures, and I understood a bit of it thanks to Gobber.
"Do... not...fly your... draw?" I tried. Gothi hit me in the head with her stick. "Do not fly your... dragon! Aha! But... how am I supposed to get back to the edge?"
Gothi drew in the sand again.
"By boat? You know that the edge is really far away, right?" I asked her.
Gothi nodded.
I sighed.
"I'll just go home to my parents and stay there for the night" I informed Gothi.
She smiled and waved goodbye as I exited her hut.
It took me a good while to walk down the stairs that led up to Gothi, but I eventually made it down.
Well, it was pitch black outside when I finally made it down, so...
I stopped for a second and tightened the knot on my arm rest before I continued walking home to my parents.
Let me tell you one thing, sleeping with a broken arm is NOT comfortable.
