A Little Bonding
Anti didn't understand why Henrik brought him back to his office. Once he did, he gave him back his slice of pizza and told him to eat and Anti just stared at him, confused.
He started eating the pizza but his thoughts were still running wild.
He let Henrik check his stitched head even though it was just for the doctor's own benefit. He needed something to do right now to tear away from what just happened even if his distraction was also the source of his problems.
Henrik checked the wound carefully for infection but it looked to still be healing good.
It had only been a day and a half but you could never be too careful.
"I should put more ointment on zhis and wrap it up again just in case" he spoke to himself and Anti let him do as he wished, still munching in thought.
When Henrik was finished and had him gauzed back up, he finally voiced his confusion, taking the last bite of the delicious food.
"What happened back there? Why did Jackie apologize? Why was everyone so freaked out about a note and pills?"
Henrik rubbed his eyes and groaned a little. He wasn't in the mood for 50 questions right now, "Tis the implications, Anti. Obviously Jackie seems to think. We all think . . . . the note could have been a suicide note. And the pills . . . . . the way you might have done it"
". . . . . how do you know, though? Could just be a random note and the pills could be prescription. Right?"
Henrik shook his head, "Dammit, Anti just listen, alright? Jackie found those items hidden under your bed! It's obvious! You were suicidal!"
"So what?!" he flung the empty plate on his desk, "It doesn't mean anything anymore!"
"How can you just say that? Of course it does!"
"No it doesn't!"
"It means EVERYTHING, Anti! It-"
"I'M NOT THAT MAN ANYMORE!!"
They were silent for a moment until Anti continued, "The man you knew isn't me anymore. . . . . so it DOESN'T matter."
With that, he walked out of the room and back into the kitchen where they were all moping. Anti stomped up to Jackie and ripped the note out of his hand, "Hey! What are you- You shouldn't-"
Henrik came back up with him just in time to see what was happening.
Anti read the note anyway . . . . . . . . .

Anti swallowed and then snatched the pills away from Jackie, too, who didn't put up a fight this time. The others just watched.
The bottle was filled with sleeping pills but he understood the implications . . . . seems Henrik was right.
But he just set them down anyways, "I'm not the same person anymore. The sooner you all realize that, the better." he ripped up the note and flung the pieces back on the table, "I'm not him. Even if I DO remember . . . . . I'm not! I'M NOT HIM!! I'm different . . . . ."
Chase cautiously came up to him and gently set a hand on his shoulder. He didn't say anything but Anti understood he just wanted to help. He was starting to glitch again but they didn't seem to mind this time.
Jackie reached over and took his hand in his, nodding his head.
Finally they all had an understanding.
Little did they know Jackie also found something else in Anti's apartment. Something that didn't quite make sense. But he couldn't tell anyone anything just yet. Not until he found out what it actually was.
He could feel something in the air. Something strange. It was like he felt it before.
Plus the TV didn't even have a plug in. Not that that would be unusual for Anti but it was. . . . . weird.
Maybe it was just the smoke scent getting to him.
And why weren't investigators or any officers there at the scene? Maybe he should go back sometime later when the smoke clears out more.
That night, they got Anti all set up in his new room. Jackie was reluctant at first, still, but let it be. He had to understand now that things, although odd, were different. He had to throw out everything he once thought he knew about Anti. To help him or anyone, he had to start trusting him.
Jackie was in sitting on the couch with the torn up note in front of him on the coffee table. He couldn't stop staring at it. His heart wouldn't stop hurting. Had Anti really been feeling this messed up the entire time before the fire? Was it their fault? He had to shake his head at that. No, it couldn't be. Anti was the one who first attacked them in the beginning. Maybe it was regret?
Marvin walked in seeing him so confused, "What's up, Red? It's like two in the morning! What you doing up so late?"
Jackie was startled out of his musings, "Oh, Marv. . . I could ask the same about you. I was just thinking was all"
"About Anti? I thought you made your decision?" he came to sit next to him.
"I did. . . . . but something still doesn't feel right. I don't know. Maybe it's all just in my head"
"I think you just need some sleep, Red. You're like Hen, you know. Always putting your job first. Just relax once in a while, huh?"
He shrugged and they sat together in silence for a few moments.
"You didn't answer my question. Why are YOU up so late?" Jackie asked.
"Oh just a nightmare is all" Marvin shrugged, "I couldn't go back to sleep so I decided to try out some potions. Was coming downstairs for some Thyme for a certain spe-"
"Marvin" Jackie sighed, "I wish you'd just stop . . . . . Potions and spells." he shook his head with a humorless chuckle.
"What?"
"Well I mean. . . you know it's not real, right? We can deal with you trying your slight of hand and card trick stuff, Marv . . . . but actual magic? Come on, bro."
"Oh" Marvin took a moment and sighed, "Well . . I. . . I didn't mean like an 'actual' potion or anything. I meant like something like an elixir. Or homemade. . . medicine"
"Hm" Jackie didn't seem convinced, "Just be careful, alright? At least just stay away from chemicals"
"Yeah" Marvin slapped his lap and cleared his throat, "Yeah. . . . I'm gonna just . . . go back to bed. Have fun staring at pieces of paper, Jackie"
With that, he stomped away, leaving Jackie feeling bad again. Maybe he shouldn't have said that to him.
'He has to learn, though, sometimes' he shook his head, 'Henrik has enough issues on his hands without dealing with another of Marvin's special . . . . homemade liquids. God forbid he tries to give Anti anything right now'
After a while longer, Jackie got up and stretched and finally went to bed.
A few days later, things were still edgy but getting better. Henrik would check his bandages and wounds regularly, Jameson would play checkers with him to keep his brain thinking and Chase was really growing into his role as the parent, supplying him and everyone else with food, practically forcing it down Anti's throat so he'd grow healthier again.
Since Henrik's recent blood tests, it revealed a severe lack of nutrition, pushing Chase further into treating him more and more like a child every day.
But even if Chase was the 'mother hen' of the group, he still had fun here and there and would challenge Anti to video games, even if Henrik disagreed with it, saying that staring at a computer screen wasn't good for him right now. Anti didn't care though, he felt fine and loved the attention he was getting right now.
Marvin and Jackie were still distant, however. Jackie always was but Marvin never seemed to leave his room now. Anti was curious. Marvin always seemed so nice and peppy. Was something wrong? Did Anti do something to upset him? He'd admit he could be annoying sometimes but he tried not to ask TOO many questions.
He made his way up to Marvin's room. If the magician couldn't come down to them, he'd go to him! Before he could knock on his door, though, he heard something strange.
A sort of. . . . chanting. It was deep, though and sounded so soft, like a whisper.
It was calming. Anti could almost fall asleep to the sound.
He knew that Marvin could likely be busy but he was too curious for his own good. He knocked on the door.
The chanting stopped and he heard someone banging into things and a crash. He was about ready to bolt when Marvin answered the door looking flustered and worn out.
"Oh. . . . I uh" Anti started, "I didn't mean to . . .interrupt you. I can go-"
Marvin understood what Anti must have thought and just laughed, "Oh don't be silly! No, no, no! You're fine, Anti. I wasn't doing anything weird! Come on in! Come in!" he moved to the side so Anti could enter.
He glitched a little seeing all the fairy lights, the books glass jars and blankets everywhere. It was quite the set-up. So comfy looking. Except there on the floor was a smashed glass jar, "Oh, don't worry! I'll take care of that!" Marvin took out a broom that was in his closet and swept up the mess neatly, "Go on and take a seat!"
Hesitantly, Anti went over to sit in one of Marvin's bean bag chairs, sinking into it deeply. Marvin plopped in another one with a big smile. He didn't have his mask on this time but it was on top of his head as if he HAD been wearing it.
"What brings you to my room?"
"Oh. . ." Anti didn't know where to start now, "It's just. . . I don't know. I've been . . .spending a lot of time with the others but. . I haven't seen you around"
Marvin shrugged, "I've just been up here working on a few things"
"Working? What do you do? You're cooped up in here all the time!"
Marvin snorted, "Man, Hen was right. You don't waste time getting answers, do you?"
Anti huffed, "Not like it's working. Nobody STILL will tell me about this fooking scar!" he pointed to his neck.
Marvin swallowed, "It's a sensitive topic, Anti."
"It's MY scar. I'd think I'd deserve to know"
Marvin shrugged, "Fine. . . .you want to know? I'll tell you."
Anti perked up and shifted in the chair at Marvin's words.
"You won't like the answer though"
"I don't care. Please? I need to know more about this weird mystery person that used to be me" he started glitching in his excitement and Marvin almost chuckled if the topic wasn't so serious.
"A few years back, you forced your way out of our creator and in your rage, you slit his throat, slitting yours as well in the process."
Anti really wasn't expecting that, "Wait. . . wait, what? Creator? I. . . I slit my own throat?"
Marvin nodded, "I guess the others didn't tell you about Sean. Not that it matters. He's not around us anymore"
"He dead? Did I kill him!?"
"No." Marvin waved it off, sinking deeper in the bean bag, "No. . . . . none of us really knows why he left, though. Anyways . . . it was you. You tried killing Sean, our creator, to possess him and take his body for some reason. But to do that, you slit both of your throats. Luckily, Henrik was there and saved Sean. You were gone already. I assume that's why you have such a nasty scar. I don't know"
"Oh. Okay. . . .. thanks"
"Yeah. . . . anyways! Anything else you want to know?"
"Are you really a magician?"
Marvin snorted, "Of course I am! Don't I look the part? Look at me! Look at my room!"
"Doesn't mean you are one. Can you do a trick?" he grinned excitedly and bounced in the bean bag.
Marvin bit his lip but smiled, "Sure. . . . sure, I'll do a trick for ya, Anti." he got up and went over to one of his dressers in search for something. Anti waited patiently until Marvin brought back a deck of cards.
"I usually have Jackie help me with practicing these tricks but he hasn't for a couple days. . . . so I might be a little rusty"
"That's okay! I'm sure it'll still be good" he tried his best to be reassuring and Marvin could tell.
He was still put off at how nice this Anti was, though, "Th-thanks. . . . um . . .pick a card. But don't tell me yet"
Marvin showed Anti the cards he had and Anti picked one, "Got it"
"Okay" Marvin shuffled the deck around but was clearly nervous, shaking a little. He didn't want to get it wrong again. But he was used to it so this time shouldn't matter, right?
He threw out some cards and splayed three out on the floor in front of Anti, "What was your card?"
"Jack of Hearts"
Marvin touched the middle card that was still faced down and lifted it up.
Anti grinned widely, "Hey! You did it! That's was great!"
Marvin's heart swelled and he flipped it around himself to see it was just as Anti had picked. Jack of Hearts. At first he was excited. Jubilant even and he let out a laugh.
He grinned at Anti's happiness at the simple trick.
Something was weird though. There was no way Anti could cheat to help him feel better. This happened on its own. Marvin never did slight of hand no matter what the others said or thought.
That's why Marvin always got those tricks wrong.
Anti shoved him out of his thoughts, grabbing at the rest of the cards again, "Can you do it again?"
'Maybe it's because of Anti's glitching? Yeah that has to be it. It's his glitching that's effecting the cards. . . .right?'
