School

Hayden

School.
A word that tastes like garbage in your mouth.
A place where it's ok for older people to bully you. A place people tell you what you did wrong.
School.
A reason to get up on time.
That's the main reason I hate school.
I'm not a morning person by the slightest.
After what happened yesterday, I wasn't sure if I was ready for this.
Watching Ocean walk onto the stage was mesmerizing.
The picture of the girl that I saw was still fresh in my mind.
That wasn't Ocean though. It was her other persona. I nodded to myself, knowing that it had to be. I couldn't think that way about a bitch like her.
Sighing unhappily, I climbed out of my bed. I stood up stretching.
Walking into the bathroom, I studied myself in the mirror.
How had Ocean not fallen for me? I frowned.
I smiled at my perfect reflection.
I had debated on whether or not we should stay home after Ocean fainted, but I had decided that we should.
Taking a quick shower, I got ready for the day.
I left the bathroom, heading into my closet to find something nice to wear.
I pulled out a crisp white t-shirt and some fresh jeans.
Once I was dressed, I made my way downstairs to make myself breakfast.
To my great surprise, Ocean was already there, and was flipping the last pancake onto a plate.
I sat down at the counter, confused.
Without even turning around, Ocean slid the plate across the counter, and it came to rest in front of me.
I glanced at her, now unsure.
"What?" I asked.
She looked me dead in the eye and motioned for me to eat. The determination in her face startled me.
"But it's your food."
She rolled her eyes at me, before pointing at a plate in the sink, it was definitely used.
I turned back to the food, eying it sceptically.
Taking a knife and fork, I cut a small piece and slid it into my mouth.
I had most definitely not been expecting what I got.
The pancake was fluffy and light. It had a great texture, and it had a soft flavour. I glanced up and saw that Oceans back was turned to me. She was at the sink, cleaning that pan she had been using.
By the time I had finished eating, Ocean had already disappeared.
I stood, placing my plate in the sink. Heading to my office I collected the stuff that I needed before heading to the door.
I was surprised to see Ocean already there, pulling on her shoes.
She barely glanced at me as she went to step outside. I hurriedly slid my shoe's on. I locked the door behind me before turning to see that Ocean had started walking toward the bus stop.
I ran forward, catching her arm.
"Where do you think you're going?" I asked in an angry manner.
When I didn't get an answer, other than a dropped head, I smirked.
"Get in the car." I was pleased with myself. This was going to be hell... in a fun way.
Once we had arrived at the almost empty parking lot, we both got out of the car and went our separate ways.
I found myself in the spot me and the boys always meet.
"Hayden! What the actual hell."
Well shit.
Next thing I see is a very pissed Jayden. How am I getting out of this?
"You little ..."
"That enough Jayden." Nicks voice broke out from behind him.
"This guy though. He dared to lie." Jayden was beyond pissed.
"Look, Hayden does have some explaining to do, but beating the crap out of him isn't going to do anything." Nicks voice was very cross, and it matched the look on his face well.
"Look." I said unsure of how to start. "It's kind of complicated ok?"
Jayden continued to glare directly at me.
I sighed uncomfortably.
"After school, I will explain everything." I said. "Olive Cove restaurant. Foods on me."
"Fine." Jayden said, but I saw his eyes light up a bit.
I glanced at my watch, seeing I had to go to class.
Most of the girls and boys in the school were talking about the engagement, unsurprisingly. About seven different girls came up to me asking what Ocean had that they didn't. For the most part I ignored them until Nicola came up to me during our lunch break.
"Hayden." She said in a fake whinny voice. "Why didn't you choose me?"
I starts laughing, knowing she was joking due to the mischievous sparkle in her eye.
Nicola joined my laughter and so did the others. After Nick got over shock, he started to scold his sister. In return Vira gave him a light smack across the back of the head.
After school, I met with the boys at the restaurant, as we had arranged. I gave them a longer, but still fake, version of the story.
They bought it since I had told them that I hadn't been going to the office every time I said I was.
I was glad they were cool with it and we had a great conversation.
I headed back to my place after, expecting to see Ocean there. She wasn't, to my great surprise.
I checked the clock and saw that it was 5:30pm. I glanced out the window, seeing that it had started raining. I shrugged, sitting down on the couch. I turned on the tv and got lost in my show.
Once the episode was done, it was 6:15 and Ocean still wasn't home. Glancing outside, I saw the light flicker on, and a figure made its way to the door.
The door nob turned, and the door opened.
I listened carefully to the footsteps as soon as the door closed. I had directed my eyes to the doorway without realizing. When Ocean stepped into view, I realized that.
I turned back to the tv but watched out of the corner of my eye as the tiny, soaking wet girl walked away and up the stairs.
I shrugged off the fact that something was off and ignored her for the rest of the evening.
