Beginning
Today's the day! The day Codie moves out of her parents house at a crisp 20 years old. She would have done so earlier, but, time's been tough and so was money. But now! Codie is ready to embrace the world!
The ginger has dreamed of this since she was little. Not that her parents were bad or anything, no! Her parents are amazing! Sweet, understanding, and helpful. She'll miss them, of course, but she's ready to be independent!
Codie gets ready to meet up with an apartment building manager to check out an apartment she's been keeping an eye on. She'll also be meeting with a possible roommate while there, as well.
The girl pulls a white blouse over her head and slips on some jeans before grabbing her purse and exiting her room. She hasn't heard much about the person checking out the place either besides what the manager said: "Super sweet and over-excitable!"
'Easy to get along with!' Codie thinks, excited as well. The ginger bounces out the kitchen towards the front door, passing her parents along the way. "Bye mom, bye dad!" she waves, her curly hair bouncing off her shoulders.
Her mom waves back, a coffee cup leaving her lips, "Bye, sweetie! Text us if you need us!" With a nod of affirmation, Codie leaves.
~~Time Skip~~
A deep blue colored Toyota pulls up to an apartment building, taking a 'Possible Resident' parking spot. Codie turns her car off and exits, slinging her bag over her shoulder. She smiles and peers around. Such a nice area! She knew this place looked good in the pictures!
"Hello! You must be Codie!" A woman in a brown pencil skirt and blue blouse approaches the girl, her arm outstretched.
Codie shakes her hand while nodding. "Yes! You must be...Mrs. Simmons?"
"Yes! I'm the manager of Sunrise Acres! I'll be showing you the place!" Codie smiles. "If you'd just follow me..." the two quickly make their way to her (possibly) new home, "and this is it! Second floor, two-oh-two."
Codie nods, knowing about the placement. She's looked into this place for a while now, she knew what she was getting into. Not the bottom floor as she wouldn't feel safe enough, and not the top floor as it's a hassle to go up and down. The second floor is perfect!
"Awesome!" Codie exclaims.
"So your possible roommates are already up there, I let them check it out since you were a little late..." Codie catches something.
"Wait, room-mates? I thought there'd be just me and one other person?" Mrs. Simmons turns to look at her sheepishly.
"Well, technically it was just one roommate. But since last week it's two now that they're separated..." she trails off. Codie frowns in confusion but the manager waves her off. "It's alright, they're very nice, I'm sure you three would get along."
'But there's only two rooms...' the ginger thinks as the woman takes her up to the apartment. Mrs. Simmons opens the door and as Codie steps in, she immediately scans anything she may have to take pictures of. (She's done lots of research)
"So here it is!" The lady smiles and sweeps her arm in an outward motion. Passed the short entrance way, in front of her, is the kitchen behind a half wall. To the left is a small living area big enough for a couch, love seat and dinner table. To the right is a small hallway with the 2 bedrooms on each side at the end. In the middle of the hallway, sliding doors hide away the washer and dryer and on the opposite side, the bathroom.
Roomy, yet big enough for the, well, now three of them, Codie supposes.
Mrs. Simmons 'tsks', "I believe they're in the bedroom, I'll get them." The lady leaves down the hall and disappears into the left room. Codie wanders around the front room, and steps into the small box kitchen. She checks inside the cabinets as she hears footsteps approaching. Heavy footsteps.
As the ginger turns around to greet the new people, she stops, mouth agape like a fish out of water. In front of her are very large animatronics. Standing at a whopping 8-1/2 feet tall, two space themed robots stare at her back. One a deep blue, the other a bright yellow. Both have the same looking design, though one is very clearly a Moon, the other a Sun. What with the same heads minus the sun spikes on the yellow one. The Sun looks on with a shy smile while the Moon looks bored.
Codie still gapes at them, at a loss for words, when Mrs. Simmons clears her throat. "Codie, this is Sun and Moon. They might be your roommates if everything goes well." Moon gives her a 2 fingered salute while Sun walks around the wall separating the kitchen and front walkway.
"Oh hello! We've heard good things about you, yes, yes! Like Mrs. Simmons said, I'm Sun but you can call me anything you'd like! Like..Sunny, Sundrop, Sunnydrop..." the bot rambles on and Codie could only smile and nod, shaking his outstretched hand nervously over and over.
"I'm, uh, Codie. It's nice to meet you two."
Still shaking her hand, Sun lifts his other one to his left cheek. "Oh this is so exciting!"
"Well!" Mrs. Simmons gains both of their attention, stopping Sun's erratic hand shaking, a grateful Codie regaining her hand again with a wince. "I suppose you three should get to know eachother, figure out what you wanna do... I'll be heading back to my office for some paperwork. Codie, will you be alright?"
Said girl appreciates the sentiment, and while she is scared, she's more curious and what could go wrong? 'It's only two very tall, probably very heavy, assumingly very sentient AI robots under the same roof as me...ha ha...'
"Uh, ye-yeah, I'll be fine! I still need to check out the rooms...so..." she titters off, voice wavering at the end as she becomes more unsure of herself. The Sun bot in front of her smiles wide.
"Oh! Yes, go check out the rooms! They're very..." he pauses, trying to hold in giggles, "roomy!" Behind, Moon rolls his eyes but Codie notices the very small upturn at the corner of his mouth. Smiling, Codie nods her head and makes her way to the hallway. She first checks the bathroom and washer and dryer. She notices the two staying behind and talking in the living room with hushed voices.
'This is so weird... I have so many questions...' She tries to keep her mind off it for the time being and continues to the bedrooms.
They look relatively the same size, though the one on the left has a walk in closet with a sink and counter while the other has a normal closet with sliding doors.
She likes this place a lot. Now Codie just needs to ask some question about those two.
Exiting the room, Codie finds just Sun in the living room. "Hey friend!" Sun welcomes when he noticed her, "What did you think of the place?"
"Um, I really liked it! What about you two?"
"Oh I love it so much! Moon and I are just so excited to have our own place!" At Codie's little gesture to the empty room, Sun answers, "Oh Moon went to talk Mrs. Simmons about finalizing us staying here! Oh, oh are you going to be our roommate! I can't wait to get to know you! We'll be such good friends!"
Codie grins, albeit a little nervously, "Yeah, I think so! I've been looking at this place for a while now and I really love it so yeah, we'll definitely be roommates." Sun throws his arms up in celebration.
"Yay! A human roommate! We're just glad we won't have to stay with Monty!" Codie frowns, eyebrows furrowing in confusion.
'Monty?' she thinks, before gasping, "Montgomery Gator?! Like, from the Freddy Pizzaplex!?"
"Oh, yes, yes! So you've heard of it? We come from there! It recently got shut down after all sorts of allegations. Also Gregory became our Ambassador! He got the state to allow us sentient AI a chance to live actual lives!"
Codie doesn't know who Gregory is but oh well. "And how many are there?"
"Well let's see! There's the four Glamrocks! Freddy, Chica, Monty, Roxy! And me and Moon! We worked at the Daycare."
"So how come you two decided to move in together? Was it just going to be one of you?" Codie points out, wondering about that separation the manager mentioned.
"Oh, no, no! Moon and I were quite literally the same animatronic!" Codie gapes. "Gregory and his new caretaker, and previous security guard, Vanessa was able to convince some people to separate our AIs into different bodies!"
"Wow. That's pretty awesome! So you and Moon are really close then?" Sun nods happily. "Are you sure you want a roommate, then? I wouldn't want you two to be uncomfortable." Codie rubs her arm.
"No! We're okay! We are super excited to have you as our roommate! We can't wait to experience new things together! I hope you'll give us chance!"
Codie grins, his enthusiasm making it hard not to.
~~Time Skip~~
Codie sits inside the manger's office, signing papers while Moon sits near the door, legs crossed and a clip board in his hands as he finishes signing his and Sun's papers. "So with the new clause of allowing the Sentient AI to integrate into society, a few apartment buildings are getting some new clients, such as your new roommates. I believe their ambassador, Gregory, and his caretaker, along with Freddy are in the buildings a few blocks from here, so if you have any questions, those three would be the best ones to ask."
"Okay! Thank you! And pets are allowed right?"
"Yes, you'll have to sign some extra papers..." Mrs. Simmons bends down to grab some from a drawer when Codie stops her.
"Oh, sorry! I don't actually have one now! I was just curious if I would decide to down the road." Suddenly, Moons stands up and hands his clipboard back over. Mrs. Simmons thanks him and hands him two keys. He gives her a quiet thanks and takes his leave. "He's not very talkative like Sun, is he?"
"From what I can tell, he's more reserved. His part in the Daycare back at the Pizzaplex was nap time, and extra security at night."
'So less human interaction than Sun, and probably very little with adults.'
"Alright, well thank you again!" Codie gets handed her keys and she immediately puts it on her lanyard.
"Of course, dear. Let me know if you need any help." With that, Codie exits the manager's office. Smiling, with a pep in her step, Codie gets back to her car. Across the way, the ginger noticed a convertible. She has to do a double take when Sun and Moon go to get into said convertible.
Codie jogs over to the two. "Hey!" she waves, "Nice car! But how come the top isn't up? I heard it might rain today." She shields her eyes and glances to the sky where dark clouds can be seen in the distance.
Sun waves back and follows her gaze before looking at their car. "We can't exactly fit in conventional cars, silly! Especially with my sun spikes!" Codie blushes, feeling stupid for not thinking about that. I mean really, how did you think giant animatronics would fit in human vehicles?
"Right..." she laughs sheepishly. "Um, hey, before you go, do you want to exchange phone numbers?"
"Good idea," Moon mumbles, fumbling for his smart phone.
"Oh boy! A new human friend's phone number!" Sun pulls his out as well, eagerly shoving it towards Codie while making a grabbing motion for hers. She giggles as she gives hers over and types her number into his and Moon's phone.
"Okay, well I'm heading out! I don't have too much to move so I should be in by Sunday. Did you guys need help moving at all? I'm sure my dad wouldn't mind helping out for some of the heavy lifting..." Codie offers.
Moon lifts a hand to stop the girl's rambling. "Thank you, but we are okay. We can carry things three times our weight." Codie gapes but nods.
"Oh! We wanted to talk to you about rooms," Sun butts in, "Would you be alright with us having the one with the walk in closet? It'd make it tons more easier on us, yes!"
"Oh, yeah of course." It'd be nice to have, yeah, but again, Codie doesn't have too much and surely they'll get more use of the larger closet.
"Yay! Thank you, friend! Oh!" Sun grabs his brother by the shoulder and shakes him a bit. "Moon! We gotta go, or we'll be late! Sorry, friend. We'll see you later!"
Before Codie could say anything, the two hurry off to wherever they needed to be.
~~Time Skip~~
Finally Codie can relax after her long day. She sits down at the dinner table, excited to have a home cooked meal from her mom she won't get as often after moving in. "I'm so proud of you, sweetie!" her mom says, placing a bowl of mashed potatoes down.
"Yeah," dad speaks up, "all grown up and living with a complete stranger... You met them right? They seem okay?" Codie rolls her eyes but smiles
"Ah, well actually..." Codie rubs her neck and avoids eye contact, "there's two now...and they're animatronics from that Pizza Plex that shut down. Freddy's?"
Both parents stare at their daughter in shock. "R-robots? Like the big bear and chicken!?" Mom gasps.
"Two of them!?" Dad gasps as well, the food from his fork splatting onto his plate.
"Well!" Codie goes to placate them the best she can, "They-they were the daycare attendants. Not the actual rockstars like Freddy or-or Monty," she shivers at that, thinking about what would happen if she got the prone-to-anger- Glamrock. "I met them and they seem super sweet, guys."
Both parents look to eachother as if they're having a silent conversation. "You better call us if-if anything happens! Or if they make you uncomfortable," Dad says sternly, pointing a finger at Codie.
"I willll," their daughter drawls, finishing her food. "I'm going to pack up tonight some of my furniture, hopefully I can get it all there tomorrow. Shouldn't take too long."
"Do you or your..." dad twirls his fork as he searches for the right words, "roommates need help with lifting?"
Codie swallows her last bite, "Mm! I actually offered your services but Sun and Moon said they can lift over three times their weight!"
Codie's mom 'wows' as Codie gets up and cleans her dishes. She moves to clear the table and after, retires to her bedroom to finish packing her clothing. She hums as she folds and places them in boxes. A couple hours later, she decides to be done for the night and goes to sleep.
~~Time Skip~~
Codie's nerves are shot as she nervously brings her stuff up into her new home. She can't help the spike of anxiety as she finalizes her moving out to be by herself with strangers. She huffs as she places her night stand next to the dismantled parts of her bed frame.
'I wonder if either of the boys know how to assemble a bed...' the ginger thinks, a finger on her chip as she looks at the bedroom. It's coming together, yeah, but she needs to figure out where she wants what.
"I think I'll have the bed here..." Codie gestures to the wall straight ahead from the door. "Nightstand right next to it... Computer over there..." The girl thinks about a spot for a possible T.V, but she'll have to save up for that since she didn't have one to bring from home.
A sudden noise causes the 20 year old to jump out of her skin. She tries to calm her racing heart and think rationally. 'It's probably both or one of the boys...' She can't get scared now! She's been waiting forever for this moment and a bump in the middle of the day isn't going to make her cower! She decides to wait for a moment and see if the door opens before hiding in the closet and calling 911 as her brain is trying to tell her to do.
"Hellllloooo!!!" Sun's voice echos throughout the apartment. Codie releases a breath of air she didn't know she was holding and goes to greet the animatronic.
"Hey!" she waves, "I was just arranging my room. What did you bring?"
"Moon and I have a bed frame, dressers, oh! And we got a big T.V! And then a bunch of little knickknacks..." Codie eyes the box Sun has in his arms. "Oh this? These are some personal items from the daycare!"
The ginger nods in understanding. "Do you guys need some help bringing up a couple things? Maybe I can help with the lighter stuff while you get the heavier stuff?" Sun's already bright smile turns brighter at the suggestion.
"Oh thankyouthankyouthankyou, friend! Yes, Moon is down there right now, he'll hand you some light things!"
Codie descends the stairs, seeing Moon and the brother's convertible parked under the car port, U-haul parked on the curbside. "Uh, hey Moon!" Codie winces at her awkwardness. "Got any light boxes I can help carry up?"
The lunar jester looks up from the truck. He hums as he looks for something the human can carry. Finding a box of art utensils Sun begged to keep, Moon hands it over. "Thanks," he says softly, watching the girl re-ascend and disappear into their shared home. Moon continues unpacking the truck, putting one of their two dressers on the sidewalk.
He wonders if this was a good idea. The other animatronics chose the same building to stay in. Chica and Roxy rooming together while Monty wouldn't room with anyone, not robot or human. While still in the same body, the brothers argued on what they wanted to do. Moon didn't really want to stray, though he also didn't want to be too close to the others as they never really talked.
Sun wanted to branch out and meet new people, what with the people-person he is, and together they finally decided to live a few blocks down. Independent, but still close to familiar faces.
When Gregory came to Sun about separating their AI into two bodies, Moon was even more nervous about living on their own. Though after going through with it and finally seeing his brother's face with his own eyes, he warmed up to the idea and mimicked his brother's excitement.
Moon wanted it to be just him and Sun but said animatronic was ecstatic at the prospect of having a human roommate. They never really clicked with any daycare workers, nor security, as many quit in a month or less, so this will be good for him, Moon would think.
He shakes his head, breaking the rampant thoughts and sees that he finished unloading the truck. He looks up to the apartment, 'Now why hasn't that fool come back down to grab stuff...' He grumbles, grabbing a TV stand to take up.
"Sun," Moon calls out, opening the door, "we have plenty more to grab, what are you doing-?" he stops and stares at the two lying on their bellies on the floor. Sun stops a rant and looks up, Codie too, mouths formed in an 'O'.
"Moon! I was telling Codie about the daycare! Oh! Oh!" He gets up off the carpet. "Look what I drew! Look!" His brother shoves a piece of paper into his face. He frowns and grabs it to take a look, holding it farther than the 2 inches Sun had it from his eyes.
"It's very nice," Moon compliments, smiling softly at the portrait of himself. Ever since Sun and Moon separated, Sun's been addicted to drawing Moon. What he doesn't know is that Moon has kept every single one.
"It's for you!" Sun says giddily. Moon thanks him, putting it in his chest cavity for now. After that, the three of them finish lugging everything up into the apartment. They separate and figure out where to put what in their respective rooms.
Codie finishes first, having been there before the brothers, and goes to see how their room is coming together. She knocks and Moon opens the door. "Hey, how's it coming?" she asks, peering behind the big bot.
"It's...getting there. Sun keeps getting distracted by his things." Sun comes out of the walk in closet, holding multiple papers in front of him.
"Moon! Where should these go on the wall?" Said brother sighs while Codie giggles. The ginger notices 2 dressers and a very large bedframe in the middle of the room.
"Do you guys...sleep?" she questions, pointing to the frame.
"We can enter a 'rest' mode that recharges our batteries a little bit, but to fully charge we have our cords," Moon explains since Sun's too busy with his kiddie drawings from the daycare. "Sun!" Moon spins around, "Lemme help with that, or you'll make a mess!" He leaves the door open in his haste, allowing Codie to continue to watch their antics.
Codie enjoys watching the two banter as they hang up pictures and Moon finally convinces Sun to rearrange the furniture before doing any more.
As it gets late, the once empty apartment quickly feels like a home as everything is at long last situated. Sun and Moon set up a T.V stand along with a large flat screen they got to take home from the daycare in the living room so Codie could enjoy it, too.
Codie places some silverware in a kitchen drawer before yawning, looking at the clock on the stove. It reads; 8:44. Her tummy rumbles soon after. The ginger decides a pizza would be a good dinner to celebrate their moving in.
That and a few other factors. Such as, do the two robots know how to cook? Do they even need to eat? And the most important one; Codie does NOT feel like cooking after moving all day, so, Dominoes it is!
She sits on the couch and dials the number on her cell. "Shoot," she whispers, jumping up. How could she forget to ask if they want anything? So inconsiderate. She prays a person doesn't answer the phone before she can ask the boys, anxiety and all that. She knocks on their door.
Sun comes out with a questioning gaze. "Hello, friend!"
"Hey," Codie covers the bottom half of her phone with her hand, "I'm ordering a pizza for dinner. Do-do you guys, want anything? Or...uh..." she avoids the Sun's gaze.
Sun understands what she's implicating and touches her shoulder softly to get her to look at him. "We would love anything you get," he assures her. A man picks up at that moment, startling the girl.
She nods before running back to the living room to talk. She orders simple pepperoni and sausage pizza, giving their address before hanging up.
Back in the bedroom, Sun let's Moon know what Codie is up to. "Aren't you a little tired of pizza? We could have gotten...wings or something..."
"Oh come on, Moony, she doesn't know! Plus, pizza is good!" His voice wavers, "When-when it's not flat...and-and greasy and- Aw man now I don't want any pizza..." Sun pouts, crossing his arms. Moon chuckles from his spot on the bed, placing a book down on a nearby nightstand.
"I'm sure pizza places around here won't be as bad as the pizzaplex, so just give it a try." Sun's eyes narrow as he thinks on it.
"Can...can I put sprinkles on it?" Moon rolls his eyes but pats his brothers back on his way out of the bedroom.
"It wouldn't be pizza without it."
~~Time Skip~~
The three roommates sit at their little dining table, chatting and nomming on their pizza. Codie giggles at the wayward sprinkles flying off of Sunny's slice as he chomps down. A Disney movie plays in the background, but noone pays it any mind, fully immersed in their conversation.
"Oh I wish you could have been there! The daycare was truly huge! And the kids that came everyday! I sure miss them..." Codie listens intently on the brother's daycare stories.
"Man, I should have come by! I didn't really know much about it besides the commercials on T.V..." Codie mumbles, "Plus, I'm an only child and I wouldn't exactly have anyone to go with."
"What are you doing for work, Codie?" Moon questions softly.
Not expecting the attention on herself, Codie blushes. "Oh, uh, I kinda have this job where I'm my own boss? I shop for other people and deliver their groceries." The two are silent so she continues, "I know it's not a job job but, I like it and it gets me money. I saved a lot before looking into moving out so if you guys are worried I'll be late on rent or anything-! I-I promise that won't happen!"
"It's okay, we weren't thinking that!" Sun smiles, elbowing Moon when he doesn't agree.
"What he said. As long as you're doing something you enjoy, and can make enough off of it, you're fine." Codie relaxes at Moon's smile, something about it is just very soothing.
"Are, are you guys going to work somewhere, too?"
"Not immediately, we would like to explore and try new things first." Sun jumps up out of his seat, startling the brother beside him.
"We have tons of currency to do what we want for a while! We made out like, like bandits! All of us did! We're so excited to try stuff!" Moon rolls his eyes.
"What he means is, all of us settled out of court for a lump sum for all animatronics to start their lives. I think Chica wanted to start work right away, something about opening a bakery. While a lot of us are trying to settle in living normal lives." Codie nods, understanding his words.
"What do you guys want to do for work when you do decide to work again?"
"KIDS! Definitely kids! Oh Moon we can open up our OWN daycare! Oh canwecanwecanwe?!" Sun quivers in place.
"Maybe, Sunny," Moon smiles fondly. He, too, misses the children he cared dearly for. The nighttime attendant notices Codie yawning. "It's late. You should probably head to bed. It's been a long day. Sun and I can clean up."
Before she can answer, Sun immediately starts mumbling 'clean up, clean up' to himself as he collects their plates. "Yeah, o-," another yawn, "-kay." She rubs her eyes and retreats to her room. She sheds her clothes and puts on a pair of shorts and a plain tanktop.
The ginger snuggles down into her bed, clean sheets giving off a nice, fresh smell. She's finally moved out, being the independent woman she knew she could be. She met two new friends and she can't wait to get to know them more. And with those thoughts, she closes her eyes to go to sleep.
So why can't she?
Sighing, she opens her tired eyes slightly, glaring at nothing in particular. Her stomach churns at an unbridled feeling of nervousness. She checks her phone, blinking away the brightness. Codie gapes, she's been lying in bed with her eyes closed for 2 hours!?
"Ugh..." she groans, sitting up and disturbing her once neat blanket. Maybe she should have taken a melatonin tablet. Codie never liked to rely on them but she may need to until she can settle in living by herself. She moans a bit at that nauseating feeling erupting from her tummy.
She gets out of bed and creaks open her door, peeking to see if they're still up. It's pitch black, not a giant animatronic in sight. She tip toes to the bathroom and then immediately berates herself mentally for tip-toeing on carpet.
Now that she's fully awake, and the apparent nausea isn't going anywhere anytime soon, Codie starts a hot bath, hoping that'd sooth her nerves.
Moon sits awake in his and Sun's bedroom, said brother lying on the bed in sleep mode, connected to his charging cord. He sits by the window, head in his palm as he peers up into the night sky. Ever since leaving the plex, the lunar bot couldn't get enough of the real moon and stars, staying up late to watch the sky for hours on end.
Being the nighttime bot he is, Moon feels more active in the downtime hours of the night, while Sun is the opposite, opting to wake up early and go to bed early. So, while the world is quiet, Moon can be left alone in the serene silence and beauty of the night sky. That is, until the sound of rushing water gets his attention.
He peers back toward the hallway, wondering what his human roommate could possibly be doing at this hour. 'Is she...running a bath?' he wonders curiously.
Moon contemplates whether he should get up and check on her or not, curious as to why she'd be up at this hour, his programming begging him to go put her to sleep like she should be.
With his strong need winning out, he gets up and heads over, stopping in front of the closed bathroom door. The light seeps from under the crack, illuminating the hallway just a tad. 'Is this really my business though?' he asks himself. 'Why do I care?'
He knows why.
He lightly raps on the wood, hearing a sharp and startled gasp from within. At this point, he doesn't even know what to say. Are you okay? Yes, she's taking a bath. Why aren't you asleep? Does it matter? She's not your responsibility, she's not some kid that needs to be put down for a nap.
Her voice breaks his thoughts. "Yes?"
"Sorry to disturb, I just...needed to know if you were alright? It's very late." He curses his programming for caring. Though he knows deep down he'd probably still care even if he didn't have the specific programming.
"Yeah...I didn't feel well and I couldn't sleep. Hot baths help." Codie doesn't hear a response, only footsteps stepping away and a door closing. That was very weird. Why was he still up? 'Duh,' she smacks her forehead, 'nighttime bot.' It's their first night all together and she's already being a burden.
The girl sighs and rubs her arms. Her uneasiness has since gone, so she decides to get out. She dries herself off and redresses, watching the tub water go down, lost in thought.
Snapping out of it, she heads back to bed, falling asleep quickly this time.
