11. Text Back
'So here's the deal. Will, David's boyfriend, decided that we were going on a double date with them. I know we literally hated each other less than twelve hours ago but the guy's puppy dog eyes are seriously manipulative. I couldn't say no. Sorry -Dalton'
Sighing as he read over the text he over an hour ago for the billionth time, Dalton finally put his phone down and decided to stop procrastinating from his homework. Cole hadn't replied yet but the blond convinced himself not to worry too much. Cole seemed like the type of guy who put his phone out of sight and out of mind when he was busy, despite the fact that he had the habit of talking on the phone while ordering food or drinks. But that was what made him seem to not have his phone on him while he had plans with friends, he was talking on the phone. Who talked on the phone anymore when there's texting?
Dalton tried to focus once again on the papers scattered in front of him but his phone suddenly alerted him that he had a notification. Unfortunately, it was just Will, texting him that he was home with the pizza. Not that Dalton was waiting for someone else to text him, no not at all. And he wasn't disappointed about Will being home, he was glad his roommate liked taking walks and also that there was a pizza place near their apartment building.
When he emerged from his room with the smell of warm pizza filling the air, he realized he was procrastinating again. Oh well, the paper he had to write was due in three days, he had time. Plus, if he didn't start eating his pizza slices soon, there would be none left, Will loved food.
As they ate, Dalton asked about Will's trip. They hadn't sat down and had time to talk like this in a while. Will told stories of all the shenanigans the couple got up to. Apparently, David had purposefully pissed off a bellhop because he was rude to Will. Dalton liked David even more because of this information. Will explained they were much more alike than one would think. They both liked to piss off rude people.
"The difference is, David actually isn't going to be going on a date with said rude person." Will smiled, laughing. Dalton nervously joined in but protested.
"Uh, actually about that. Could we cancel? I'm not sure if Cole would actually be up to it. He hasn't even texted me back, so I think-" A loud buzzing sound interrupted his excuses, Dal's phone was ringing, an unknown number displayed on the screen. Despite his usual instincts to ignore the call and delete the number completely. He clicked the green button to answer, holding a finger up to silently tell Will to give him a second or two. "Hello?"
"Hey, this is Dalton right?" An unfamiliar voice was on the other end but Dalton decided to see where this conversation would go.
"Depends on who's asking." Dalton snarkily replied. This earned him a flabbergasted look from Will.
"This is Gabe, uh, David and Cole's friend? Cole said that he saw your text but then he had to lend it to his mom before he could reply to it. He's with me now but he wanted to talk to you?" The voice on the other end explained.
Dalton's eyes probably widened as far as they could with how surprised at that response. Will hand motioned for him to put it on speaker because his roommate hated being left out of interesting events. Dalton rolled his eyes but pressed the speaker button after informing this Gabe guy that he had time to talk and that he could pass it on to Cole.
"Hey Dalton, sorry about not responding. I was going to but my mom needed my phone so she could call my grandma when she went to go pick her up." Cole explained very quickly as soon as the phone was handed to him.
"It's cool." The bleached blond restrained from swallowing too loudly with how nervous he was.
"Anyways, I'm down for the double date thing. I know we're not dating and that we probably never will but four people getting lunch doesn't sound too bad, y'know? It's just that two of them are dating and two of them happen to have not totally enjoyed the other's company for a long while. So I'm down if you are. Okay that's all, see y'a."
With the combination of how fast Cole was speaking and how dry Dalton's throats was from nervousness, the call ended abruptly. Will was restraining himself from laughing too hard and choking on his slice of pizza. Dalton, himself, was turning red from embarrassment and anxiety. When Will finally calmed down enough to speak, he told Dalton he'd be right back before heading to his bedroom. Dalton sighed, trying to get the blood in his face to circulate again, and continued to eat his pizza. He tried to forget the very embarrassing call that had just took place when Will came back with his own cellphone up to his ear.
"Yeah, I'm pretty sure that they don't want to do that at all. He seemed pretty lenient on the fact that it definitely would not be that. Yeah, I know. Yes, yes, I love you so much too. Okay goodbye, and I'm serious this time, I gotta go! I'll see you tomorrow." When the call was finished, the Asian held up his phone to show Dalton that the person he had been talking to was his boyfriend, David. "I just told him you and Cole were down for the whole double date thing. We're just having dinner though, no show."
Dalton groaned as his roommate continued to tell him about their plans that would hopefully become truth in the next couple of week. At least now they all know that they are officially doing this double date thing.
