Chapter I
Dipper couldn't believe he was where he was. Stanford University. One of the best, if not THE best and most expensive college in California. This school was known just about everywhere and everyone wanted to get into it, but he was even lucky enough that he was in that building today. This was just the first step to a great career.
He didn't necessarily have to go here. He already graduated high-school with a 4.00, and college wasn't always required, but he somehow made it happen. He looked down at a box of junk he had yet to unpack. He heard the door open, which startled him, causing him to flinch. The 19-year-old turned around and faced the attention of...the principal.
"O-oh." Dipper let out a sigh of relief. "Hey, Mr.Franklin."
"Afternoon, Pines." He walked in and closed the door behind him. "I came to congratulate and welcome you to the school."
He nodded back with a smile. "Thanks." He started to take some things out of the box and place them aside.
Looking at what he had...there was something at the bottom of his cardboard box...and it looked like a journal with a pine tree slapped on the front as the logo.
Crap.
The principal started to walk over, taking interest as he saw him blankly staring for a moment. "What do you have here, my boy?"
The teenager snatched the book and hid it behind his back before he could catch sight of the thing. "It's uh, nothing."
"If it was nothing, then you wouldn't be hiding it from me, correct?"
Please, please, just go away.
"I-suppose..."
"May I see?"
Nonononono.
"If it would be okay with you, I would prefer n-not to."
"Hmmm..." The man paused and then nodded. "Alright, if that's how you feel."
The 19-year old gave a sigh of relief then as the principal headed to the door, he placed the old book back in the box quickly...but what he hadn't expected was the old guy to whip around so quickly and steal his book. With a gasp, he desperately tried to get it back...but it was too late. He saw it.
"...Mind explaining to me what this is about?"
"S-sir, that was from a long time ago and-"
"And I should hope you don't believe in this sort of nonsense?"
"O-of course not."
"Good...because this is all just bologna and pure nonsense. I would hope someone as smart as you wouldn't have to be kicked out for believing in such things."
He gulped and nodded, snatching his book back. "I'll just tuck that away...you don't have to look at it ever again."
Dipper stared at it and put it in his box again, putting that box on a high shelf in his closet. Problem solved.
"Yes, well, have a good night."
With the slam of the door, the principal was gone. The teenager(technically adult) let out a sigh as he glanced at the box on the shelf, rolling his eyes.
"Stupid book..."
~
Dipper's alarm screeched in his ear, causing him to wake up with a groan. Why mornings? And why must alarms be so annoying? The whole point was to get out of bed, preferably not grumpy, and that's what the alarms wanted people to feel like apparently.
Slowly blinking, he dragged himself out of bed and stretched his arms out as he was half awake. School....lovely.
Wait.
School.
YES!
The 19-year-old rubbed his eyes and looked around. Yep. This was his room. He was really at Stanford University, the hardest college to get into.
That just made him excited for the day, knowing this would be his first day in the smartest school ever. This was a chance to be around brainiacs who actually know what he's talking about, and he doesn't have to explain nearly everything every minute, unlike someone...
The boy shook off his thoughts.
Now was not the time to be having flashbacks.
He slipped on his navy blue hoodie and gray pants like the usual and plopped on his favorite pine tree cap he had found at a shop a couple years back. He considered it his lucky hat. Never was he supposed to wash that thing because it was sure to rub all the luck off.
With a grin, the boy grabbed his backpack and opened the door, nearly dashing out of his room and tripping at the same time from excitement.
Whoops.
Luckily nobody was there, or else that would've made a TERRIBLE first impression. Shaking his head and mind away from the thought of his embarrassing action, the boy started down the hall and began to walk to his first class, beaming and ready to start the day.
~
It was the same exciting routine all day. Go to classes, nerd out with classmates, answer all the questions when given a shot, and just have no worries about anything. Homework was given, but not for every single subject(which was the great thing),just for the stuff he applied for. This was college, not elementary school.
In a hard day of work, the kid decided he was going to go out to snag a meal, since he didn't feel like cooking. Walking out of the building, he stuffed his hands in his pants pockets while going along the sidewalk, taking a look at all the sights. Fall wasn't too bad. Better than summer, where in California he had 100 degree weather for almost weeks. Finally, after seemed like ages, he made it to the local sandwich shop. When he ordered and ate his meal, he started to walk back home, pausing when he saw something bluish-green from the corner of his eye.
The boy flipped around and there it was. A ghost was right there.
His mouth dropped as he looked around.
Was anyone else seeing this?!
Then again, he took the long path rather than the short one to kill some time...and he did stop in front of a house where it was told the rich old man that lived inside, died within the very home.
And there the old guy was.
Dipper was at a loss for words. He gulped and stared. This whole time he thought they were fake and unreal. But here was one right in front of him. The kid slowly pulled out his phone to get this all recorded. He pressed the red record button.
"H-h-hey." He finally spoke, gulping again. "I-I'm Dipper...a-and I don't w-want to mean any harm."
The ghost just stayed floating there. Bobbing up and down.
"I-if I'm i-intruding, I can g-go." The-19-year old started to back up...then started to get drenched in a sickening green sticky goo.
The ghost roared before shooting back up into the sky and flying off.
Dipper stayed silent...then he grinned and pumped a fist in the air as he touched the red button again, saving the video. He wooted and threw his hands in the air and began to call the principal, eagerly.
"Mr.Franklin!! You'll never believe what I saw!!"
He paused to listen.
"Yeah!! How'd you guess?"
Silence and then his expression started to turn into a frown.
"It was on the LIVE news..? How?!" He flipped around to see that a news can was driving away.
"....It's not a joke I swear!! Please, Mr.Franklin!! If I could get some equipment to sort this out I can prove it! I-"
The kid got cut off and he listened.
"....Just...let me get my stuff then." The 19-year-old muttered as he hung up.
Well that happened.
He sighed and started to wipe himself off as people snickered around him, seeming to mock what happened. They-EVERYONE thought he was now the crazy one in town. He needed to tell this to someone who would believe him.
Someone who would listen.
His eyes lightened up as he ran back to his room, taking a quick shower and putting back on his navy blue hoodie, gray pants and old Pine Tree hat before digging his hands into that box of his. The one with that book too.
He dug out a post card from his sister he got a while back and flipped it over, looking at the address.
Well, he knew where he was going next.
Gravity Falls, Oregon.
