Chapter Seven
6 months earlier...
"A traitor?" Queen Oasis asked. She narrowed her eyes. She didn't not expect that any dragon in her kingdom would betray her. She thought they were loyal to her. Well, without loyalty, what did she have? Nothing. Nothing, without loyalty. She must make an example of this dragon. "Take me to him." She commanded her guard. He dipped his head quickly and sped down the corridor.
"I've already had two guards set on him. He shouldn't be able to escape." he explained.
"Excellent," Oasis sneered. "I'll be sure to praise you." They turned a corner and came face to face with a scene of a struggling SandWing, his tail barb locked in a cage and two guards trying to clamp his wings with metal clamps.
"No! No!" he yelled in a breathy voice. "No, it's wasn't me! It wasn't me! I'm not the spy!" one of the female guards managed to clamp his wings while the SandWing shot flames at the other guard. "It wasn't me, it wasn't me, it wasn't me! It was him!" he suddenly said, pointing towards Strike, who was standing beside Oasis. The guard who led her to the captive.
"Enough," Oasis boomed over the scene, and everyone froze, including the struggling dragon. She nodded towards the male guard and he clamped the dragon's wing down. "What is your name?"
"H-Hyrax." he gasped, cowering down as Oasis loomed above him.
"Why have you done this?" she asked.
"N-no! I keep telling you! It wasn't me, Queen Oasis! I swear it. It was him, it was Strike! He was the spy and he's been spying against you and Queen Copper!" Hyrax explained. Oasis turned and glared at Strike.
"Is this the truth?" Oasis demanded, turning around to face Strike.
"Absolutely not. Hyrax is obviously deluded. You know I would never betray you, my queen." Strike finished with a deep bow.
"One of you, is lying," Oasis decided. "I don't want to believe that either of you betrayed me, but someone has." she suddenly turned around to face Strike again, flicking her tail at the two guards. They both grabbed Hyrax's wings and led him out of the hallway. Strike was left to face Oasis.
"My queen...?" Strike asked.
"If you are telling the truth," Oasis started. "You have nothing to worry about."
"Q-Queen Oasis, Hyrax has no proof that I am the spy!" Strike protested.
"And do you have any proof that he is the spy?" Oasis questioned. Strike said nothing, at a loss for words. "Exactly. Now, follow me. This will be quick."
Oasis led Strike into her vaults full of treasure. The glowing pile of gold seemed to wink and smile at Strike, who's stomach was currently flipping in his throat. Because he knew what Oasis was going to do, she was going to use an animus object on him. It's purpose was to tell if someone was telling the truth, and Strike had seen Oasis use it many times before when she wanted to settle something.
"Ah, here we are," Oasis smiled, reaching into the third vault and pulled out a necklace with a silver and gold dragon encircled by a ring. The dragon, was in mid flight, it's eyes glowing with rubies. "Lovely, isn't it?"
"Y-yes, my queen." Strike whispered.
"Try it on for me, won't you?" Oasis handed him the necklace, which Strike took with fumbling talons. What had he done? He'd left a clear trail. Of course a dragon was going to find out about his secret eventually. "Well?" Oasis growled. Gulping, Strike our the necklace around his neck. The moment it touched his scales, the silver dragon's eyes flashed a bright red, filling up the dark cavern with a red glow, extinguishing all the lights expect this. Oasis snapped the necklace off Strike's neck, the red light immediately ceasing, filling the hallway with the torch light again. "You liar." she spat in his face. She grabbed his collar with her sharp talons and dragged through the many twists and turns of the passageways and into her throne room. She threw him in the middle of the floor and flew into her golden throne. Guards encircled Strike right away, pointing their spears and tails at him to ensure he didn't escape. "So you thought," Queen Oasis said, her voice unusually high. "That you'd lie to me and get away with it?"
"I... I... I didn't-"
"Don't you lie to me again!" Oasis snapped. "I have half a mind to kill you right now!"
"No!" Strike yelled, his voice cracking.
"Silence!" Oasis shouted, and silence fell. "I shall not kill you now because that won't set enough of an example. Hmm." she thought for a moment then said. "I have an excellent idea! I'll send you to Copper! You'll be so much fun in her arena, won't you? Guards!" she suddenly shouted. "Release the dragon named Hyrax and send him a full pardon. As for him, take four guards and deliver him to Queen Copper, and say: 'To be killed'. Don't worry, she'll know it's from me." And with that, Strike was swept out into the desert air, and with him, all the promises he made Victoryroar.
