🩰

When Josh woke up, the room was black.

Not black as in lightless, but black as in, he couldn't see anything. Usually when you're in a black room you can muster to find the outlining of a cabinet or the darkness of the corner of a room. However Josh couldn't find any of these, not a window or a door or a weirdly shaped pile of clothing in sight. His body didn't feel real either, he was questioning his conscious and his form, he couldn't speak, he couldn't move his arms or wiggle his fingers or speak for Tyler.

Two hands were wrapped around his neck, he didn't know if they were his own, or if they were Tylers. Josh felt his own pulse, beating like a rabbit, the cold fingertips were almost checking is he was alive. Then the cold hands caressed his head, thumbs on his eyelashes, grazing over his eyebrows.

"Burn the witch."

Josh's eyes opened, instead of anyone being there, all he saw was the chandelier of Tylers pink room.

"Josh?"

Josh choked, sitting up quickly he noticed how cold the room had gotten and how hot his face felt. He looked up at Tylers silhouette, barely being able to see the worried look on his face.

"Josh, you look sick." Tylers delicate finger reached across and touched his forehead, huffing.

"You idiot, you're sick! And here you are spreading your gross germs in my bed!"

"W-what-?" Before Josh could even process what was happening, Tyler was grabbing his arm and pulling him quickly downstairs, Josh tripped multiple times but Tyler didn't even care.
"I swear Josh, if you feel icky you gotta tell me."

"I..." Josh was pushed into a pink wooden chair. Tyler immediately started boiling water and making tea. Pulling out honey and sugar from the cabinets with the sway of his fingertips. Josh felt dizzy, and even dizzjer when he noticed Tylers skirt was pulled up a little too high; lopsided almost, probably from sleeping and rolling around in bed.

"F-fix your skirt, dude." Josh mumbled. "I can see your, your uh.. yknow."

Tyler poured the boiling water in cup and spun around, glaring and dripping the pot in the empty sink.
"My what? My ass? You can say ass Josh. It won't kill you." Tyler rolled his eyes and pulled his skirt down, fixing it properly. "Don't act like it bothers you, idiot."

"I-what?!" Josh turned bright red, only for Tyler to giggle and place the hot tea in front of him, mixing the sugar and honey together.

"Drink this, quickly." Tyler said and went to the fridge, pulling out a can of peaches.

"What is this?" Josh asked, the tea bag looked homemade.

"It's something that'll help you feel better." Tyler sat on top of the counter, Josh didn't like when he was so far away. "Samantha always gives it to Katy when she wakes up with a fever."

"Oh."

They sat there in silence for a while. Tyler eating his peaches and Josh sipping the rose flavored tea. Occasionally, Josh would look over at Tyler and watch the way he swayed his legs back and forth like a child.

"Josh, can I walk you home? I wanna see your house." Tyler said as he stared outside, watching the way the purple clouds blended into the blue sky.

Josh stood up, bringing his cup to the sink, placing it gently there and pushing himself up to sit right beside tyler on the cold tiled counter.
"Why do you want to see my house?"

Tyler leaned against him. "I want to see where you come from. And I want to see what your room looks like. And your aunties, I haven't properly met them."

"Jeez, you're kinda intrusive huh?" Josh giggled.

"Oh fuck you Josh. Come on, I wanna see where you come from okay? That's nothing compared to the shit you already know about me." Tyler stared at the clouds as he spoke. "This is my first time having a friend and feeling normal, sorry if I'm being weird okay?" Tyler smiled, a stupid smile, and turned to Josh who also smiled.

Josh laughed too, not because it was funny or anything, he just thought Tyler was cute. It was weird; the way he felt around him. With anybody else, Josh would deny them for asking to see his personal life, the things and people he loved, especially since they weren't perfect at all. But with Tyler, he felt like he didn't have to hide those secrets from him. It was easy to tell Tyler his aunties were lesbians, his mom was dying and he wasn't angry his father was dead. He felt so not perfect, but with Tyler that didn't really matter at all, Tyler didn't give a fuck about perfect or not perfect. Tyler just wanted to stare at the sky and say things like that and not realize josh is losing his mind over him. Except there is so much doubt in Josh. So much telling him he can't. As easy as it feels to be around Tyler, something is telling him to walk the other way, get away. Not risk it.

"You're incredibly weird." Josh whispered. "Like extremely odd and peculiar and I'm constantly questioning you."

"Yeah?" Tyler says sarcastically. "Well that's great that you think that because I think you're incredibly annoying and ridiculous and I'm bound to beat the absolute living shit out of you as soon as I finish this can of peaches. I think I'll start off by shoving this fork up your ass."

"Why am I your friend you are absolutely terrifying." Josh giggles and jumps off the counter just as Tyler finishes his peaches. Josh grabs Tylers arm and takes him outside, where he left the roller skates.

"What the heck are these?"

-

Josh thought Tyler could do anything, but it turns out he sucked at roller skating and it wasn't any help that he was wearing the worst attire for nearly toppling over ever three seconds. But josh already learned his lesson about commenting on his ass so he was silent about it.

It felt like eternity before Tyler finally realized he wasn't supposed to put so much weight on his heel and he managed to glide slowly. It wasn't much but it would do.

Josh grabbed his wrist. Tyler noticed he did that a lot, and he didn't understand why josh didn't just grab his hand and hold it like they were a couple. Tyler knew, of course he knew, Josh felt attracted to him romantically. He wondered why he was so afraid of being with a boy.

They glided in silence, all the way to josh's house, the porch lights were on so that meant Elise and Marie were home. Josh wanted to cry, preparing for the absolute worst.

"You're nervous." Tyler whispered, smiling at Josh's blush. "You hidin something Josh?"

"N-no." Josh scoffed and let go of Tylers wrist, leaning against the gate of his front yard to take off his skates. He then helped gently remove Tylers.

Josh was incredibly silent as they walked inside the home. Tyler immediately smelled something sweet. The house was warm, toasty, and it was cluttered a lot more than his own house, there were magazines and portraits and random bicycle parts everywhere. It wasn't messy, Tyler thought it suited josh.

"Hey, Josh, I was hoping you wanted to watch The Tales of Narnia with Marie and I if you're fee- oh." Elise made a surprised face, seeing the boy behind Tyler. Tyler immediately smiled sweetly.

"Um." Josh put the skates by the door. "You guys know Tyler. Uh-"

"Yes! Yes, hello, Tyler. How's your mom doing?"

Josh was terrified of the interaction unfolding before him, mortified as he watched Elise become excited, god, if she screwed this up it was over. And where the fuck was Marie, dear god, if she walks out naked again he's going to off himself.

"Shes visiting family, but she'll be back tomorrow! I think she's bringing back some traditional family food. I'll be happy to share if you'd like." Tyler smiled, god, he was being incredibly kind and here josh was standing like a fucking idiot not knowing what to do.

"You're too sweet. But that'd be lovely, thank you so much." Elise smiled. Just then, Marie walked into the room with a basket of fresh oatmeal cookies.

"Oh, Tyler, what're you doing here honey?"

"I just wanted to walk Josh home, sorry if I'm bothering..."

"No! No way, here, have an oatmeal cookie."

Josh turned to Tyler quickly. "They're terrible. You'll puke."

"Uh me and Tyler actually have some important things to discuss so we will uh, now leave." Josh grabber his arms and yanked him upstairs, Tyler quickly grabbed a cookie and said thank you, practically tripping as he ran up the wooden stairs of josh's house.

"They're so sweet Josh."

"The cookies taste like utter shit."

"I'm talking about your aunties you fucknut." Tyler giggles and dusted off his skirt. "I changed it to chocolate chip anyway, so I wouldn't know."

Josh opened the door to his room, letting Tyler walk in behind him, shutting the door gently.

Tyler folded just arms over his chest as he ate away the cookie, smiling at the simple small room Josh had, it suited him a lot. It was full of nostalgic things. Like tiny pictures on the wall and random things placed on shelves. Nothing matched at all, and he had a ton of CDS and cassettes and vinyls. Tyler was enjoying how visually pleasing a cluttered room can be.

"Why are you so nervous?" Tyler picked up a random CD. "You were holding your breath downstairs."

"I was not." Josh scoffed, sitting on the end of his bed like an awkward little boy. Watching Tyler snoop around his room and look at random things. "I was just, uh, I'm just tired and-"

"You're the worst liar I've ever met." Tyler giggles, staring at the picture of Josh and his mother when he was little.

"You wanna know a secret?" Tyler asked.

Josh nodded.

"I can figure out the worst shit about some people. I can figure out the core of someone's anger. I can see past a liar. I can see morals and sins. But you know, that doesn't really mean anything to me." Tyler looked at josh and then looked back at the picture of his mother. "I've never known anyone before. I always just know a piece of information of a whole lot of people my whole life. Excluding Samantha and Katy of course. But other than them I've never gotten to meet someone and know them. I've never impacted someone's life. I have never done those things, normal things."

"I want to know you. You're the first person I've ever met that makes me feel like I can be normal. I don't know why you're so afraid of being judged, whatever the reason is, I promise I wouldn't judge you or hurt you." Tyler walked over to josh, who was still sitting on the bed, but was finally looking at him sincerely. "I can practically feel you restraining yourself from saying things to me, I don't know what they are, and I don't even know if it's serious or stupid, but you don't have to be scared of me. I'm sorry if I forced this. I'll leave, and when you're-"

"No." Josh scratches his head. "I'm sorry, fuck. I just- just got scared. I want you here, this is just new to me and I really don't want you to think I'm a piece of shit or that I'm weird like everybody else does."

"You made me a pie and you showed me the most beautiful spots in this town. Also, you bought me marshmallows. I don't hate you, or think you're a piece of shit. You're quite the opposite." Tyler smiled. "You are weird though, I can't lie."

"Shut up." Josh groaned and laid on his back. "Can I give you something?"

Tyler hummed a yes, flopping down next to josh just as he got up to open a drawer and pull out a book.

"It's my old sketchbook. There are some drawings of the town or of people, or maybe some other stupid thing." Josh places it on tylers lap. "Maybe you can figure me out through those drawing or something."

"Okay." Tyler smiled, he knew josh was trying.

"I'm bad at communicating."

"I know you are."

"And I'm not ready to tell you anything anytime soon."

"Noted."

"Just." Josh stared at tylers face, perfect. This was perfect. "Don't kiss me either okay? I don't think I can handle it."

"Yeah, I won't." Tyler pretended that didn't hurt.

"I'm not like that."

"Okay, Josh."

"Thank you, fairy."

"You're welcome, perv."

ANYWAYS Incase you have any questions about this chapter please comment here :)

Incase Josh confused you in the end, just know he is a scared growing boy that is afraid because he was abandoned and abused his whole life and doesn't know how to form healthy relationships with people he loves or express his emotions. he also doesn't want a relationship with Tyler because he fears judgement and is lowkey insecure as fuck. yes he's probably going to hurt Tyler in the future. yes they will kiss in like chapter twelve or thirteen.
