🧚‍♂️

Elis and Marie had suspicions on josh, of course they did, their whole lives were practically wrapped around josh and what he was doing. But they didn't want to force themselves into his business this time.

Elis spent too much time following her sisters, Josh's mom, orders about how to raise him and make sure what he does and doesn't do. But Elis realized after a while that breathing on josh's neck and hovering over him like a crow just made josh feel more controlled and anxious. That's not what she wanted, she wanted josh to feel safe and happy with them.

So when josh left that morning in a rush she didn't question him when he ran past her and out the door to god knows where. But her mind did immediate go to Tyler and his family. She just had this feeling that whatever josh was going to do or wherever he was going to go, Tyler had something to do with it. Elis just knew she couldn't include herself in josh's life anymore, she needed him to grow up and figure himself out.

It was seven thirty two when josh walked into their two story home, his teeth chattering from the nightly breeze and the fact he was damp.

"What the hell happened to you?" Marie put her tea down and paused the Disney movie that was playing on their television. "Jesus josh, you look like shit."

Josh smiles and kicked off his squishy shoes. "Can I put these in the dryer?"

Eli's squints at him. "S-sure?"

"Cool, thanks." Josh smiles and takes his shoes to the their laundry room in the basement, meanwhile Elis and Marie share looks of confusion as to why josh was soaked and why he had flower petals stuck on his cheeks.

Josh couldn't stop smiling, even if he forced a stare he'd find himself smiling again, everything about today was perfect and enough. It was enough for josh to say he had a great time, especially walking Tyler home and letting Tyler babble about the city and his annoying little sister that can't stop eating plants. He loved listening to him, and he could do it for hours, and the best part was walking Tyler to his front door and Tyler giving him a kiss on the cheek.

Josh peels off his damp shirt and jeans and puts them in the wash, as well as everything else, and puts on some sweatpants.

When he walks back out from the basement, Marie stands at the kitchen counter aggressively mixing the honey into her lemon tea, staring at josh and his blushing face.

"Okay but seriously, be honest, did someone push you in the lake again? Because if that happened I will not hesitate to call co-"

"No, Marie." He opens their white fridge. "I took Tyler to the creek."

Marie is silent, she looks over at Elis who pretend not to listen and instead read a book. "Oh? Did you have fun?"

"Yeah." He sighs, picking out a flower petal from his hair and proceeding to bend down and grab a caprisun. "He's a lovely person. But our bikes got stolen."

"Again?!" Elis moans in agony, bikes were expensive. "I'm going to murder a damn teenager I swear."

"It's okay, I still got my rollerblades."

"You know I spoke with Tylers mother this mornin and she told me they might stick around for a while." Marie sips her tea. "She said they move a lot cuz of custody issues, guess she's running from the police."

Josh frowns and sits atop the counter. "They're safe here. I'll make sure they're safe."

🧚🏻‍♀️

"Where the fuck were you?!"

The scream of Samantha immediately is brought to Tyler once he closes the front door, the soft smile on his face drops into a confused blunt stare.

"I..." Tyler looks around and sees Katy asleep on the couch and his aunt Aurora angrily standing with her arms crossed over her chest. "I was out..?"

"I guess i don't need to summon any blood hounds to track you down then huh?" Aurora sighs, mumbling something about wasting her time, and closes her suitcase.

"Sorry sister, but me and Tyler need to speak alone now." Samantha stares at Tyler, an angry and scary look in her eyes.

Tyler awkwardly stands in the middle of the room, watching Aurora grab her items and vanish into thin air. He noticed the summoning circle in the living room and the spell books brought out of the dusty shelves pages out everywhere in the house.

"Tyler, you have a fucking curfew for a reason. I specifically told you it was six pm, any time after six pm means you're either dead or missing, do you not remember when I established this rule?" Samantha angrily starts closing all the spell books, her voice is shaky and Tyler knows shes holding back an angry scream. "The worst part is I can't call anyone! The coven tracks us through telephone lines and I was, i was just about to risk it all and call people for you!"

"I'm safe, I was with josh, our bikes got stolen." He wants to dash to his room. "It's not a big deal, you're acting crazy calling aurora, we just got here-"

"Exactly! We just got here and you're already breaking the rules we have! I'm not trying to keep you locked up in here, I'm just trying to protect you from the people that want us dead." Samantha angrily slams a book down. "And you don't even know how the town feels about us, for all I know, they want us out of here."

"I understand but I'm strong enough to take care of myself-"

"No you're not! You're not strong! You have no idea what th-those people are capable of doing to you and to us!"

"I know, god, I know what they're capable of, you're the one that doesn't stop fucking reminding us all the time about it! That's all you talk about, and I know that I'm getting stronger! I'm getting stronger than Aurora and-and I'm getting stronger than you!" Tyler starts pacing to the stairs. "And-and I don't fucking need you enforcing these rules that don't make sense! For Katy it makes sense okay? But for me, I can protect myself, and you know that."

"Am I fucking speaking Chinese to you Tyler?" She scoffs and grabs his shoulder harshly, Tyler just snatched himself away. "Are you even hearing yourself?! You're not listening to me! We are in danger! And all you care about is getting us in deeper shit-"

"You're the one that fucks it up for us! Don't blame me when you're the reason we've had to move twelve times!" Tyler feels his arms getting heated, he can feel his body reacting to the anger boiling in his stomach. "How are we suppose to live huh?! We're just going to run our whole fucking lives then? You just want me to live and never know what it feels like to be a teenager or to mess up or to go to school or have friends because you're head is wrapped around us being safe when it doesn't even matter! I feel like they gave up on finding us at this point so get your head out of your ass!"

"You are so selfish." Samantha glares at him. "If we die it will be your fault, if we die it'll be because you stayed out to late and got caught! There are two boys missing and I fucking know I just know you had something to do with it!"

"Fuck off, Samantha." Tyler puts an invisible barrier on the entrance of his room so Samantha couldn't enter. He also called her Samantha instead of mom since he knew it pissed her off.

"You're screwing up! You're already putting us at risk! What if the town finds out huh? They will fucking burn us alive Tyler!" She angrily stomps her leg and grabs a vase from one of the tables in the halls and slams it against the barrier. "All because you want to live a stupid teenage life and put us all at risk, you'll end up just like your fucking parents!"

Something in tylers little heart twisted, into a nasty dark twist that made him relive the moment of seeing his parents die together, something in him saw guilt and emptiness and longing for answers. Samantha knee his parents was a topic too sensitive, too scary to even try mentioning, this topic was too harsh and the outcome could be even worse.

Tyler simply looked at Samantha, and it was enough to send her flying against the wall all the way at the end of the hallway.

It was like his body was controlled by something sinister, something too powerful, he didn't even know he was capable of doing such a thing. Tyler didn't know how to control himself and next thing he knew, his room was going up in flames, hot brutal heat attacked his stuffed animals and closet and sheets violently, his eyes unfamiliar to Samantha who was moaning in pain but managed to pick herself up.

"Igne mori! Igne mori! Igne mori!"
Samantha shouts as the fire slowly reduces itself to nothing.

Tyler stands there with anger in his eyes, anger he had against Samantha, anger he didn't know existed until today. There's a flash of memories replaying in his head of his parents dying, over and over.

"Tyler.."

The black burned wood of Tylers door slams closed, it rattles the house and a sound of thunder riots from the sky above them.

Heavy rain pours down in the middle of a heat wave, as well as hail, in early July, for three days straight.
