Jimin focus
Jimin stormed out of the room. He felt mistreated by the know-it-all and by Taehyung, too. The pilot had just watched him being lectured. He had thought they could become friends by the way they had been able to talk when he had been woken from cryo some weeks ago, but apparently no-one liked a Charmer. He was just a joke to everyone. Frustrated, he walked down the stairs to the personal rooms. He hated being here. He felt dumb though he was a doctor, too. But a doctor in psychology seemed to be worth nothing on a space ship. Well, he was not even a real crewmember, he was a passenger.
The white sliding door read his handprint and let him enter the room that was labeled with Dr. Park Jimin. Silently, it closed behind him and the LED light strips on the ceiling and the wall lit up to show him a small room of 14 square meters with intelligent walls, a French bed with white bed linen that looked very soft and a white, plain table on the wall across the door with a light-gray office chair. The closet was built into the wall opposite to the bed, and the door to his personal bathroom was on the far right.
"Bang?"
"Yes, Dr. Park," the AI answered instantly.
Jimin had a wild thought and followed his feeling. "How many tasks do you currently handle?" he asked out of interest. AIs had always been his favorite topic.
"Just 126," the uncle-voice replied.
Jimin chuckled. "You're insufficiently challenged, I assume."
"Yes, doctor."
"Well. Can you show me the wallpapers?" he asked in a slightly better mood.
On the wall next to the bed popped up a menu of different wallpapers. Interested in what the system had to offer, he scrolled through the animations and pictures. He skipped the intense colors in the shades of red and orange as well as purple and stopped at the darker shades of blue.
"Can you give me a starry sky on the ceiling?" he requested.
"Of course, Dr. Park," Bang replied, and the ceiling changed into the requested animation. "Anything else I can do for you, Sir?"
"Call me Jimin," he said and opened his closet to slip out of this uncomfortable military uniform and into his own clothes.
With a tap of his finger, a compartment with shirts on hangers opened, and he took out a blue-striped button-down. With a second tap it vanished back into the wall and he touched the label that read trousers. Another compartment slid out and presented him his dress pants on hangers. He thanked the workers that had brought his clothes on board. With another tap a slim drawer revealed his jewelry. Hastily, he got rid of the black and white synthetic that hugged his body uncomfortably and put on his combination. He even exchanged the sport shoes for black leather dress shoes. The uniforms were awful.
"Bang, can you tell me what you're currently doing? Summarized, I mean."
"I'm synchronizing the cores, I watch the reactor, I'm participating in the conversation of captain Jung with the commander and the pilots, and I'm cooking tea for officer Jeon in the kitchen. And in about five seconds I'll be handling the communication of you and Dr. Kim Seokjin, considering he asked for your location some seconds ago."
Confused Jimin looked up from arranging the rings on his fingers. Seokjin?
The bell of his personal room rung, indicating someone was in front of his door. Bang opened a video-feed of the hallway to show him who his guest was. Dr. Kim Seokjin had rung on his door.
"Please change the bell tone, Bang. It's noisy. You can check my personal data to find something."
"Like you wish, Jimin."
Then Jimin touched the small green circle on the wall next to the door to greet his guest.
"Dr. Kim," he said and stepped out of his room, the door closing behind him.
The beautiful man with the hazel hair and the broad shoulders smiled softly.
"Dr. Park," he greeted him, and Jimin liked him instantly for his honey warm voice, "Is everything okay?" The tall man seemed sincerely concerned, and the coffee eyes scanned him for any sign of... well, discomfort? "Commander Kim unfortunately is like that. He's a-"
"Brain. I know," Jimin interrupted the nice man. For some reason the Agency always chose Brains as commanders. Most likely because their enhanced neuronal capacity made them the perfect consultants regarding military strategies, creative problem solving and knowledge in general. They just had problems with following their intuition instead of facts. Brains reminded him of Star Trek's Vulcans, just worse because they tended to be annoying know-it-alls.
"I'm good," he assured the physician with a wide smile and headed off with a bow.
Time to get an impression of the Jeon-boy. He barely had noticed him because the man never seemed to speak. He must be either very shy, very smart or very dumb, and Jimin would find out what he was.
With a quiet hiss the door to the kitchen opened and revealed a lonely mug on the big table and an impressive black figure in front of the automat for drinks. When the soldier heard him enter, he turned around.
"Dr. Park," an astounded melodic voice recognized him. Wow the boy sounded beautifully.
"Keep on talking," Jimin said and leaned against the wall next to the dink automat to look at the attractive pale face with the big chestnut eyes.
The soldier seemed confused and just stumbled incoherent sounds.
"Try saying my name," the smaller offered helpfully, and maybe a little mockingly.
"Dr. Park," the man obeyed.
"No, my first name."
"Jimin."
Wow, he could listen all day to this man just saying his name over and over again. This voice was so unbelievably soft.
"Say it again," he demanded fascinated and bit his bottom lip.
The raven smiled softly and turned his body into his direction. Good sign.
"Jimin," he said once more.
Something in Jimin's chest tightened deliciously. This was a completely new feeling to him, but he liked it very much.
When the screen of the coffee machine lit up green and Jungkook reached for his new mug, he stepped into the younger's way, making them stand chest to chest, and looked up with curious eyes.
"Again," he breathed, watching the soft blush that creeped onto the younger's cheeks with great interest.
The other smiled amused, obviously unsure of what to think, but, nevertheless, he obeyed.
"Jimin," he said, and the older could feel the breath that ghosted over his face and the vibration of the brought body that was touching his.
His chest once again tightened, and his fingertips tingled.
"May I have my tea now, Jimin?" the boy asked and lifted one eyebrow, the amused smile still on his lips.
Jimin needed some seconds to process the words, then he stepped aside.
"What are you doing alone in the kitchen?" he asked the soldier.
"Waiting for the walls to talk," the younger answered and sipped on his mug.
"With tea?" Jimin asked in disbelieve.
The younger's smile became wider. Jimin found him cute. He looked like a bunny when he smiled, and the black clothes suddenly were less intimidating.
"I have a better idea," he said and grabbed the taller man's wrist to pull him with him.
When he turned around, he almost ran into a wall of human bodies. Lifting his eyes, he met the gazed of the captain, his commander and the two pilots.
"I think," Hoseok said with a beaming smile, "I'll make my announcement tomorrow. Go have fun." And he cleared the way to allow the two younger men to pass.
Four pairs of eyes and a gush of mumbles followed them down the hallway, but Jimin ignored them. Whispers and stares were nothing new to him. As a Charmer he seemed to be a magnet for those, no matter if he used his charms or not. Being the center of attention had been something he had forcefully learned to endure. But with Jungkook's broad back as a wall behind him, it felt way less unpleasant, if not even safe. The comfortable warmth that spread through his guts made him smile softly.
One floor lower, when they reached his door, he turned around. "Um, do you maybe want to change into something more comfortable?" He pointed at the younger's uniform.
"That would be nice," Jungkook said with the amused smile that seemed glued onto the bunny-face and watched him with attentive eyes.
"Um... your room..." Now, Jimin was the one stumbling. A stumbling diplomat... His mum would be so proud...
"I'll meet you in five," the raven set a time and walked down the hall a little further.
Jimin felt jittery when he watched the other vanish into his room. What was up with him? Was this caused by Jungkook? Was this what human's called love? But his mother had said that love was an illusion and the medical data underlined her statement. Love was a product of the hormonal mix of adrenaline, dopamine and oxytocin with some endorphins and melatonin. He shook his head. No over-analyzation! He just was curious about the quiet man whom no-one seemed to notice when he was in the room and who looked at him so tenderly.
He unlocked the door to his room and entered it. Though the ceiling shone with stars, the room still was plain and impersonal. He mused about what to change until the door played one of his favorite songs. Bang had made a good decision.
He shrugged off the concerns about his room and opened his door for Jungkook.
The bunny-faced beauty looked gorgeous in his white V-neck and the ripped blue-jeans. He suddenly looked mundane, and not like a killer-machine. His eyes wandered down the trained body to take in the new impression in detail.
"Am I allowed in?" the melodic voice asked and knocked him back to reality.
Slightly embarrassed about his staring, he stepped aside to let the younger inside. "The room's not very beautiful, but I haven't had much time to-"
"What makes you think it's not beautiful?" the taller asked while he turned around to him.
"It's just the ceiling," Jimin replied confused.
"But why would I want to be distracted by animated walls when this single gimmick tells me everything to understand who Park Jimin is?"
For a moment Jimin was stunned by how long this sentence had been, before he understood what the younger had just said. When the information made it to his brain, he smiled happily. Jeon Jungkook developed into the most interesting person he had ever met. And he was anything but dumb.
"I wanted to suggest watching a movie," he said and waited for the other's reply.
"To be honest. I'm more of a gamer," the younger admitted and lowered his eyes to the carpet floor.
"Oh, you must like Taehyung then," Jimin concluded, "He told me he loved gaming, too. Well, he's a V, so he obviously would." His sentence ended in mumbling.
Jungkook chuckled lowly, making Jimin's head snap up again.
"Yes, we played some rounds of an ego shooter when he woke me up from cryo. He's a pro," the boy said and looked down again.
The atmosphere was strange with both of them silently standing in the room, Jimin at the door and Jungkook in the middle. It was one of those weird getting-to-know each other situations that only seemed to happen to adults. Easily making friends was something Jimin adored children for. It looked so easy when the little ones sealed a friendship with 'Do you wanna be friends?' and a handshake. He thought about doing it just the same way, but then he discarded the idea.
"Then let's play," he suggested instead and sat on the floor, using his bed as backrest. "But I warn you. I suck at games."
Jungkook laughed once more when he sat next to him, and the small sound seemed to loosen the weird tension. Bang automatically adjusted the temperature of the floor and opened a big window on the closet wall with an interactive menu for games.
"Thank you, Bang," Jimin said and earned a startled look from Jungkook. "What? Do you think that just because his brain is a computer, he does not appreciate thanks?"
Jungkook looked like he considered the idea, and then he nodded. "Sounds right. Thank you, Bang."
"You're welcome, officer Jeon," the AI replied and almost sounded like it smiled.
