Chapter 16
I was listening to 'Feel Real by Deptford Goth' in this chapter. Really suits the Ianna parts.
--------------------------
"YOU NEEDED TO have been there." I start my tale, smiling like a loon. "I thought Aiden was the best at pool but I was wrong. Boy, I was so wrong."
"And Aiden had the heart to play two rounds?" Christine asks biting off mozzarella stick.
"Yup." I almost yell in excitement. "Ian ended up with three hundred bucks."
Christine winced, "Jeez, I'm not even worth that much right now."
I toss my head back and laugh, "Ian literally scored every ball. I'm in love."
Jamie choked on her pudding, "In love?"
I blush, "Yeah, with pool."
Christine rolls her eyes and I stuff my face with the mozzarellas.
"Since when do you and Ian hang out with the Popular?" Jamie asks with her usual curiosity.
"We don't. Finn just invited us and since we were together, I figured, why not." I shrug, "plus, I'm not one to say no to free food and drinks."
Jamie smiled, but it wasn't a full amused, happy smile. I knew another question was coming up. "So, are you all now like a clique?"
"Nah, I'm pretty sure that was a one time thing and if it wasn't, Aiden hates Ian's gut too much to actual spend time together in a room." I finish up. "Enough about me, how was your weekends?"
"I had another Dolan twins marathon on YouTube." Jamie fesses up and I roll my eyes.
"I finished the third book in the 'To All The Boys I've Loved Before' series and I seriously can't wait for us to go watch that movie again." Christine adds wiggling her brows.
"Do I smell an all girls movie night coming up?" Jamie asks as she and Christine slap palms together.
"It doesn't have to be all girls." I pipe up, "I could invite Finn."
Christine glared, "don't even start and don't use 'Finn' as a way to invite Ian."
I blush, "I wasn't doing that!"
"Yeah right."
I didn't get a chance to respond because just then a scrawny freshman kid walks up to our table and taps me, handing a note to me. My first thought is "Ian?" But then, that thought sinks. I don't think he's one to send notes and we aren't even that close yet. With narrowed eyes, I read the note.
Hey, beautiful.
Unfortunately, I know that hand writing anywhere. I slowly turned around, my eyes directed at the populars table. As I guessed, I see Aiden looking at me. I huff. There's a little flutter at my heart but its so little, it has no effect. I'm touched, disgusted and a little pissed.
"What's that?" Jamie asks stretching her neck.
I hid the note away from her, "Nothing. " after yanking a pen off my bag, I quickly scribble;
PISS OFF
Then I get up, gather my things, walk up to his table and slap the note unto Aiden's forehead. I don't give him a time to react before I start hightailing out of cafeteria. But I don't miss everybody's curious look, including Finn's and Evelyn's glare. No matter what, I needed to do that. I needed to get that off and pass the message across. I think I succeeded.
**
"Knock knock." I hit my knuckles on the red painted door, at the same time that I push the door open and step in.
"You know, most people actually wait for a response before coming in." Ian's voice says and when I find him, he's looking down some machine.
I try to silently clear my throat and disguise my voice. "Is that how you talk to your principal?"
Mental cringe, my voice sounds nothing like my mum's. More like me with the flu and sore throat.
"Hi, Roxanna." Ian says, still not looking at me.
"How did you know it was me?" I ask walking closer.
Ian finally lifts his head up, making his hair flop and bounce around his face. He uses his fingers to push them back and do some sort of arrangement. Some obey, some don't. He smirks at me.
"Your voice and since I've been here, no one else except you and Jamie come in here. And Jamie is loud."
I smile, "Is it weird that I'm flattered?"
Ian playfully rolls his eyes, "yeah but that also depends on your definition of weird."
"Um... Pretzels and Mayo together?"
Ian squeezes up his face in disgust and I laugh. "Same, that's weird."
"And gross and just one big No." He adds and I laugh some more.
He returns to whatever he's doing and I check him out. He has his uniform on, without any jacket and now the two buttons at the top is open to reveal the white tank top he's wearing underneath.
"I'm not against pictures, you know." Ian says looking up and withdrawing a paper from the machine. He smirks at me, "Just in case you want to take a picture."
I blush, looking down at my shoes, then I blurt out. "Let's go out."
"Out?"
I tuck a hair behind my ear, "Yes. It's my free period and we have gym after, which we can and should skip."
"Skipping class?" He gasps dramatically, placing a hand over his muscled chest. "Roxanna!"
I roll my eyes, "Come on it'll be fun, better than being in here."
"I love being in here."
"You'll love outside more."
Ian purses his lips adorably, "if we get caught, I'm throwing you under the bus."
I grin, grabbing his hand, "Shove, push, fling me under the bus for all I care."
Ian smiles and let's me lead, taking us out of the school. While walking out the hallway, we run into my mother. She shoots me a look while walking away but other than that, there's nothing else. In school, the only thing we have in common is our blond hair. I sprint off with Ian the minute she rounds the corner and soon we're in the parking lot, getting into my car.
"Where are we running off to?" Ian asks putting on his seat belt.
I smirk, "You'll see."
I turn on the radio, humming out whatever music starts playing. Ian compliments me on my car and I tell him how I got it. He tells me that he had a motorcycle but it blew up and now his only means of transportation are his Legs.
"How did the motorcycle blow up?" I asks turning to look at him. "Like... automatic combustion?"
Ian does a one shoulder shrug but his features were tense and hardened now. Boys love their bikes and I'm sure the experience was heartbreaking. "I just came out one morning and saw it burnt and almost ash."
I pout in confusion and use a hand to put over his thigh. He gasps out in surprise and I resist the urge to smile. "I'm sorry about your bike."
Ian slowly peels my hand off his thigh, placing it over his. "Thanks fry fingers." He runs his thumb over my hand, "although I should probably start calling you, slick fingers."
I grinned, packing my car in a spot I deem safe. "We're here."
Ian looks around, "where's here?"
"The woods." I do a creepy eye movement, then wiggle my fingers and echo 'woods' for effect. Ian and I get out at the same time and after I'm done locking up my car, I jog up to him.
"What are we going to do here?" He asks sinking his hands into his pockets and letting his eyes scan around the tall red and brown trees. "Or rather, what are you going to do to me here?"
I place a hand on my chest, "What can little ol me do to you?"
Ian looks down at me, "a lot."
I laugh, "Come on, don't be scared. I come here a lot. Its a good means of whiling away time. And there's a really cool water fall ahead. Plus if a wolf attacks, I'll protect you."
"Wolf?" He laughs, linking our hands together. "How are you going to do that?"
"I have my charms."
"Lucky wolf then."
With our hands together, we start walking into the mass of red woods and tall trees. I've really been here so many times and I know this place as much as I know our school. My sisters and I spend a lot of picnic times here and sometimes when my dad is feeling like it, we go hunting.
"Hunting?" Ian asks as I tell him. "I didn't think people still did that."
"My dad still does. According to him, his grand father, my great gramps was quite the hunter and he left some wonderful guns and traps in the family. So, why not."
"I'm guessing you have no brother?"
"Now why would you guess that?"
He lifts a shoulder, "because you wouldn't be going 'hunting' with your dad if you did."
I gasp, "is this the part where I start giving you a talk on gender equality?"
Ian turns to me and smiles, a smile that's so beautiful I have to remind myself to breath. "I totally walked into that one. Can I pass?"
I playfully role my eyes, "well, you are right, I don't have a brother. Just sisters." Sister. "But I'm the boy in my family. I play soccer, I annoy the hell out of my mum. I go hunting with dad and one time, I actually joined a wrestling class."
"Gee, so you're a wrestler now?"
"Nah, didn't work out." I reply shaking my head fondly, "I realized that wasn't my calling after I broke six bones. But I blame that on the rhino I got patterned up with."
Ian tossed his head back and laughed. I'm starting to love this outing more and more. "Too bad that would be a great turn on."
As soon as he says it, he looks away as if he didn't expect himself to say such and I could see a peck of red, nearly ignorable but it was there. I smile, his innocence is a turn on. I gently tug on his hand, making him look at me.
"So tomboys are your thing?"
Ian smirks, his shyness a thing of the past. "Do you classify yourself as a tomboy?"
I take a second to think about to it. "No, not really."
He nods. And I probe, "you didn't answer mine."
"No, not really."
The butterflies in my stomach soar high and around, my heart doing what I imagine as awkward flips. I smile at Ian and he smiles back as we continue our walk. We walk through a little gathering of water with slippery stones lining our path and Ian puts his hand over my waist to keep me steady and from falling as we pass through.
"What about you, have any siblings?" I ask once we pass the slippery water path and I have to talk else I'm just going to focus on where his hands once were and probably force him to touch me again.
He has what looks like a ghost smile on his face as he answers. "I do. A baby brother."
"Baby?" I almost squeal and Ian full blown smiles now. "I love babies."
"I figured."
"How baby is he?"
Ian raises his brow on my question but answers nonetheless. "Nine months."
Now I actually squeal, "oh my gosh. How cute."
"You haven't even since him yet."
"He's your brother. He's nine months old. Of course he's cute. He can't not be cute." Ian smiles. "I can't wait to meet him."
Then the smile is gone.
I dutifully ignore this. "When can I, Ian?"
He frowns, freeing his hand from mine. "I don't know."
My eyes look down at my now empty hand and then trail up to Ian walking ahead of me. I sigh. What's the matter now? I can't see his baby brother? He doesn't trust me enough yet? I can't let my mood dampen by this, I just have to make him trust me. Make him see me as a friend and he comfortable enough to tell me things and let me see his baby brother.
I run until I'm ahead of him, he raises his brow at me but I just smile and continue running. I can hear the sound of water so we aren't far anymore. Quite close actually. I continue running, not fast enough to loss Ian but fast enough to reach our destination in record time.
I wait with a smile on my face until Ian finally makes himself known, a confused frown on his face. I gesture wide with my hands.
"We're here!"
"A waterfall." He says in awe, the frown gone and giving way to an amazed and surprised look.
"You had no idea right?"
He slowly shakes his head, his eyes glued to the crystal clear water. "I didn't. This is... beautiful Roxanna."
My heart swells in pride. I'm glad that I'm the one who gets to show and experience this with him. I smile and start pulling off my shoe and socks. Ian raises an amused brow at me.
"You're not jumping in."
"Not today, I'm not." I assured and when I'm done pulling off my socks and shoes, I walk over to the edge and sit down on it, putting my feet out and dangling above the mass of water, the fall opposite us. I beckon Ian over and he imitates me, joining me at the edge.
"What's the need of pulling off the shoes then. Our legs aren't going to meet the water anytime soon." He says looking down at my now bare legs.
"Its so I can do this," I look down on my feet and wiggle my toes around. Ian laughs.
"Fry toes."
My skirt have never felt shorter. With my knee high gone, I feel naked and exposed and Ian's raking eyes aren't helping at all. He keeps looking down at my legs and I feel red but his look makes me bolder and I break into the silence.
"We never finished our q and a."
Ian groans and rolls his head around. "Fine, fire out."
"How many girls have you dated?" I blurt out without any form of preamble.
Ian turns to me, surprised at my question. I don't bulge and my eyes demand an answer. "Why do you want to know?"
I shrug, "I just want to know what I'm up against."
He smiles and look down at the water. I'm starting to think that this is me crossing boundaries again when he finally speaks. "None."
Silence.
"So, Playboy status?" I ask almost shocked. With his looks, he could totally pull off and get away with being a player but with his nerd attitude and blushes, I wouldn't think he's a player at all.
"No, I don't think I'm a playboy." He answers with a shy smile.
My eyes go wide in surprise. "So... no competition?" To that, he shakes his head. "Why not?"
He bites on his lip, "would you believe me if I said cooties?"
I'm too surprised to respond to that. Never in my life would I have thought...
"Just how innocent are you?" I voice my thoughts. Ian sighs.
"I'm not."
I totally don't believe him. I smile and reach for his chin, making him look at me. "I never liked competition."
Ian smiles, his eyes dropping down to my lips. "Lucky you then."
"But now I feel even more scared." I slowly admit, my voice like a whisper.
"I think you'd do fine."
I slowly close the gap between us, my heart beating so wildly, I bet Ian can hear it. We lock eyes again and then our lips meet. My eyes flutter shut as shiver go through my body. Ian's soft almost cold lips pressed against mine. The sensation is overwhelming and maybe its because I'm kissing Ian but I've never felt anything like it before like it.
I break apart, my eyes still closed and I'm lowkey scared of what I'll see, feel , when I open them. I eventually do and Ian's beautiful eyes are shades darker, the most sexy look I've ever seen on them.
"Was... Was that any good?" I ask slowly finding my voice.
He looks away from my lips and give me a look that I translate as 'are you kidding me?'. Before I get to smile or get Ian to respond, he puts his hand around me, pulling me closer, with one hand cupping my cheek, we share a look and our lips meet again.
With our lips moving against each other in sync, lust, passion and flames going off between us, I couldn't help but wonder;
Where has he been all my life?

Eekkkkk
Long chapter. What do you think? This is my earliest kiss scene in all my full length novels. Worth it?
