The Pumpkin Patch
It was the morning of a chill autumn day, orange and yellow leaves were falling off the trees. Hanging from one of the branches was a simple pod on the outside but on the inside was what only could be described as chaos...
In the kitchen one of the trolls was already up nice and early, giving himself the task to prepare a special breakfast for his family. On the menu was orange colored pancakes with a bunch of wild berries on the side of the plate to add some color to its composition. He joyfully skipped to the table to place the food on its surface, making sure everything was perfect.
"Hmm its missing something" John Dory grumbled to himself.
He looked around the pod, looking for what he could possibly add to the dressing. After just a few seconds his eyes landed on the vase holding a boquet of flowers in the living room. His expression lit up in excitement as he rushed to pick it up. Unfortunately the decoration was heavier than he originally thought it would be and, after slipping through his chubby square fingers, it smashed onto the ground with a loud shattering sound. From upstairs Grandma Rosiepuff heard the unusual noise and almost fell down the stairs joining her grandson in the kitchen.
"John Dory! What are you doing?!" Grandma Rosiepuff exclaimed.
"Shit!! Oh hi grandma! Do you have another vase?" John Dory carefully moved around the shattered object.
She had just noticed her flowers completely destroyed by the young trolls feet, she blinked for a moment.
"What?? No!! What is- you better clean that up young man, what are you doing up so early anyway?" Grandma Rosiepuff turned towards the kitchen and sees all the bowls and ingredients on the bench.
"I'm doing the responsible thing by making breakfast for everyone!" John Dory smiled proudly.
"I can see that..." His grandmother let out a small sigh.
At the same time she could hear the sound of little footsteps coming down the stairs. Floyd's pink hair appeared as he casually went to sit at his assigned place at the table still half asleep.
"Morning Floyd! I'll go wake up the others" John Dory started to head upstairs.
"Wait you still have to clean up the- oh never mind" Grandma Rosiepuff gave up and started to clean up the mess her eldest grandson made.
A few minutes later all the brothers were sitting at the table eating the pancakes, except for Clay.
"Why are these pancakes orange?! That's not natural!" Clay poked his pancake stack with his fork.
"Relax Clay, it's just a bit of food dye" John Dory explained.
"I don't care! Pancakes aren't supposed to be orange!" Clay crossed his arms, still refusing to eat.
"Bro, they're orange cause its the Halloween season moron. Use your brain" Spruce rolled his eyes.
"Thank you Spruce for that incredible reasoning! How are the pancakes Floyd?" John Dory asked his younger brother.
"They're really good! Almost as good as grandma's" Floyd smiled.
"Aww.." John Dory looked down at his pancakes in disappointment.
"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA" Clay burst out laughing while finally trying to eat the pancakes, his mouth being too full and he spitted half of it on the table.
"Careful Clay, you don't wanna choke" Floyd frowned in concern.
"Clay that's enough just eat your food, you'll need the energy for later today" Grandma Rosiepuff took a bite of her pancake.
"Later today? What's gonna happen later today?" Spruce questioned.
"Well I thought we could do something fun for the season this year" Their grandmother smiled.
"What is it?" John Dory got curious.
"How would you boys like to take a trip to the pumpkin patch?" Grandma Rosiepuff smirked.
Immediately the brothers jumped onto their feet, their faces lighting up in excitement and started to scream and cheer over the exciting news. They quickly left the table to get ready to leave, rushing back up the stairs like a stampede.
"But you didn't even finish your brea- never mind..." The grandmother sighed in defeat.
After a few minutes, the loving yet chaotic family had arrived at the pumpkin patch. The one that hadn't been mentioned yet, Branch, was hiding in John Dory's hair, nervously peaking at the numerous trolls out there. It was his first time in the pumpkin patch and he didn't really know what to expect.
"Hey baby bro, look at all the cool pumpkins we get to choose from! Aren't you excited?" John Dory gave his youngest brother a comforting smile.
Branch just let out a small whimper and retreated back into John Dory's hair.
"He's probably just afraid of the crowd and the loud noises" Floyd concluded.
"Well I'm not afraid! GERONIMOOOOO!!!!!!" Clay pushed both of them out of his way and rushed towards the pumpkin patch.
"Clay wait up!!" Spruce ran after him.
"Welp so much for picking our pumpkins together as a group, cmon little bros let's go!" John started to walk to a spot where there wasn't as many trolls.
"Yay!!!!" Floyd immediately followed after his big brother.
Grandma Rosiepuff saw her grandsons run off to go pick their pumpkins. She was used to this type of behavior from them so the elderly troll just sighed and took a seat, she would pick her own pumpkin later when most of the crowd was gone.
Clay and Spruce where trying to reach the biggest pumpkins in the patch. It was easy to tell because there was a huge group around the pumpkins that some of them were big enough it would take a few trolls to carry it safely. It was the perfect carving canvas, the two brothers were determined to get their hands on the perfect pumpkins.
"We gotta find a way through, otherwise we'll never get our hands on the good pumpkins" Clay grabbed his hair worried.
"Why don't we use our hair?" Spruce suggested.
"Dude... We can't just use our hair! We're too young" Clay crossed his arms.
"Well then oh wise one how do we get past the crowd and get the pumpkin back to the pod?" Spruce raised his eyebrow.
"Well it is the Halloween season so..." Clay smirked.
"So?" Spruce was confused.
"Let's do what we do best on Halloween!" Clay got a book out of his hair that had a list of Halloween pranks.
Meanwhile John, Floyd and Branch found a nice secluded area away from the major crowds. Since it was more quiet, Branch peaked his head out of John's hair again looking at all the different pumpkins.
"There's so many good options this year!" John Dory smiled.
"I wanna find a pink one!" Floyd was looking around trying to find a pink pumpkin.
"Floyd, there's no such thing as a pink pumpkin, pumpkins are always orange" John explained.
"That's not true! This troll has a green one!" Floyd pointed to the troll with the green pumpkin.
"That's because its not ripe, you can always just paint it pink when we get home" John Dory suggested.
"B-but I wanted a pink one.." Floyd started to tear up.
"Nononono! Don't cry Floyd uh... Maybe we'll be the first ones to discover it! Let's have a look!" John Dory started to look around for the impossible pink pumpkin.
Unfortunately as they went off to go look they didn't notice that their baby brother had escaped and was sitting on the ground intrigued by all the pumpkins around him. He then spotted a particular pumpkin that had a hole in it and he smiled curious about the pumpkin he discovered.
As they walked they went past the big crowd not noticing their other brothers, too determined to find the pink pumpkin. Clay and Spruce were sitting on the ground, Clay had brought out a bunch of different items they could use to pull off the perfect prank so they could grab the pumpkins.
"Ok so here's what I'm thinking, I have about 150 fake bugs, we sneak behind people and we-" Clay explained but was cut off.
"Eat them?" Spruce suggested.
"What? No! Why would we even- we're gonna place the bugs on them and on the ground so they freak out" Clay glared.
"But I'm hungry though" Spruce held his stomach.
"Do you want to get the pumpkins or not?" Clay raised his eyebrow.
"Ok ok fine, but can we get something to eat after?" Spruce asked.
"Yes we'll get something to eat afterwards, now let's get to work" Clay grabbed a handful of fake bugs.
John Dory and Floyd were now sitting on the ground, exhausted after trying to find the pink pumpkin Floyd desperately wanted. John Dory really didn't want to tell his younger brother the bad news, he didn't want to let him down. When all hope seemed lost, that's when Floyd spotted something in the corner of his eye, something round and something pink.
"John!! John!! We found it!! It's a pink pumpkin!!! It's so beautiful!!!" Floyd hugged the pumpkin.
John's jaw dropped, the impossible pumpkin that he originally told his brother didn't exist was there right in front of him.
"Huh.. How even... Well would you look at that" John just stared at the pumpkin in shock.
"It's a Christmas miracle!!" Floyd cheered.
"Floyd it's- you know what never mind good job" John ruffled his hair.
"Branch you gotta see this!" Floyd smiled.
But Branch didn't respond. John was confused as he tried to reach in his hair from him and his face went slightly pale as he didn't feel his youngest brother in his hair.
"He's not in my hair.." John Dory muttered.
"What?! Where did he go?!" Floyd started to panic.
"We'll find him" John said with determination.
They quickly started to retrace their steps on where they had been hoping to quickly find their youngest brother, hopefully before their dear grandmother would find out.
Clay and Spruce were starting to carefully place the fake bugs onto the trolls in the crowd and placing a few of them on the ground as well. Once they were all done, the brothers took a few steps back ready to cause the chaos.
"On my signal we're gonna yell that there's a spider and then let the crowd do the rest of the work" Clay rubbed his hands together mischievously.
"Are you sure this is the best way to get our pumpkins?" Spruce asked.
"Yes, now get ready, 3...2..." Clay started to count down.
Suddenly, they heard their brothers John Dory and Floyd rushing over to them.
"Clay! Spruce!" John Dory called out.
"Ughh guys we're busy! What do you want?" Clay groaned.
"It's Bitty B, we lost him!" John Dory exclaimed.
"You lost Branch?!" Spruce's eyes widened.
"We thought he was in John's hair! Have you seen him?" Floyd asked.
"No we haven't, did you seriously have to lose him at a time like this though? I'm about to pull off a good prank" Clay explained.
"I think our youngest brother is more important than your stupid prank right now" John Dory crossed his arms.
"Well it's your fault for not keeping a better eye on him!" Clay argued.
Suddenly one of the trolls in the crowd turned around to the sound of the arguing behind them, that's when they noticed the creepy bug on their shoulder and they screamed.
"THERE'S A BUG ON MY SHOULDER!!!" The troll screamed out.
That got the attention of the other trolls around them and they saw all the bugs that were on the ground, not realising they were fake. All the trolls in the crowd started to panic and run around.
"Aw man.. I wanted to start the chaos" Clay looked down sadly.
"Well now it'll be trickier to find Branch!" Spruce facepalmed.
"What do we do?" Floyd asked.
And that's when the obvious solution came to John Dory's tiny square brain.
"I know what will catch their attention!" John Dory exclaimed.
"Your square shaped head?" Spruce rolled his eyes.
"Yes- wait! No! BroZone! First things first, these trolls need some serious distracting so we're gonna have to go top shelf!" John Dory smiled.
"Now when you say top shelf.. Y-you don't mean.." Floyd stuttered.
"That's right! We need to sing them the most important songs in the history of Halloween!" John Dory confirmed as he was stretching his legs.
"Yeah but what songs?" Clay asked.
"All of them" John Dory said with determination.
"And when you say all of them.." Spruce raised an eyebrow.
"They did the Monster Mash" John Dory started to sing.
"The Monster Mash" His brothers joined as the back up vocals.
"it was a graveyard smash"
"They did the Mash"
"It caught on in a flash" The brothers started to dance.
"They did the Mash"
"They did the Monster Mash"
Suddenly the trolls that were panicking had settled hearing the familiar voices behind them. They were immediately distracted by the catchy tune, the brothers plan was working.
"I always feel like somebody's watchin' me" Clay switched up the song.
"And I have no privacy"
"Oh-oh-oh" Floyd vocalized.
"I always feel like somebody's watchin' me"
"Tell me, is it just a dream?"
In the distance, a certain trolling heared the familiar voices of his older brothers and started to crawl towards the sound.
"Cause this is thriller, thriller night"
"And no one's gonna save you from the beast about to strike"
"You know it's thriller, thriller night" Floyd sang loudly.
"You're fighting for your life inside a killer, thriller tonight, yeah"
The trolls had fully calmed down now, cheering for the brothers. Meanwhile the brothers were keeping their eyes out for their baby brother as they sang, hopefully being able to spot him soon.
"If there's something strange"
"In your neighborhood"
"Who you gonna call?"
"Ghostbusters!" The audience yelled out.
"If there's something weird"
"And it don't look good"
"Who you gonna call?"
"Ghostbusters!"
"Spooky, scary skeletons" Spruce started to sing.
"Send shivers down your spine"
"Shrieking skulls will shock your soul"
"Seal your doom tonight"
The small blue troll crawled his way through the crowd and spotted his brothers in front of him. The brothers got confused on who the baby was because of the pumpkin covering the little troll's head.
"Who is that weird pumpkin baby?" Clay asked.
Upon closer inspection they could see the deep blue hair inside the pumpkin and recognized who it was.
"It's Branch!" Floyd called out.
Branch was happily clapping along to the song his brothers were singing and they all smiled at him.
"Spooky, scary skeletons"
"Speak with such a screech"
"You'll shake and shudder in surprise"
"When you hear these zombies shriek" The brothers posed as the audience cheered and the song ended.
"Bitty B we're so glad you're alright!" John Dory held him close, relived his youngest brother was safe.
Branch cooed and giggled happily being reunited with his brothers.
"Welp problem solved! Spruce c'mon we can still get our-" Clay saw the crowd forming again and the huge pumpkins were already being taken.
"NOOOOOO!" Clay dropped to his knees.
Branch saw the devastation on Clay's face and took the pumpkin off his head that he was wearing. With a happy smile, he reached out to his brother with the pumpkin in his tiny hands.
"Aww looks like Branch wants to share his pumpkin with you!" Floyd smiled.
Clay started to tear up in happiness over this kind gesture by his baby brother. He grabbed the pumpkin only to drop it to grab his baby brother, spinning him around in a hug.
"Thank you baby bro!!! I love you so so much!" Clay sniffled.
Branch giggled loudly being spun around, the moment was interrupted by a loud grumbling sound of Spruce's stomach.
"Now can we please get food?" Spruce begged.
"Well are we ready to go?" John Dory asked.
"I am! I wanna show grandma the pink pumpkin I found!" Floyd held up his pink pumpkin proud of himself.
"How did he even-" Clay was confused.
"Don't ask" John Dory whispered.
The brothers spotted their grandmother heading towards them. She grabbed an empty cardboard box for her grandsons to put their pumpkins in for easier transportation in case they got tired of carrying their pumpkins back to the pod.
"How did you boys go?" Their grandmother asked.
"Grandma! Look! I found a pink pumpkin! Isn't it pretty?" Floyd showed her the pink pumpkin.
"It's very pretty, would you like to put it in the box so we can carry it home?" Grandma Rosiepuff smiled.
Floyd happily put in his beautiful pumpkin, followed by John Dory who put in his oddly square shaped pumpkin, then Spruce put in a regular pumpkin he found last minute. Clay and Branch put in their pumpkin in together.
"Excellent choices for pumpkins this year, let's get these home and then we'll have some lunch" Grandma Rosiepuff declared.
"Yes!" Spruce cheered.
"After Clay and Spruce clean up all those fake bugs" Their grandmother added.
"Ugh!" Spruce and Clay fell to the floor in disappointment.
The end.
