Ten.
After my phone call, I padded across the hardwood floor to what I assumed to be the living area.
For a cabin out in the woods, this place was huge. I searched the large area before my eyes rested on Ramon.
He hadn't noticed my presence in the room so I took my time taking in his appearance in the brighter light of the living room.
His hair looked even more bleached, it was almost white falling over his eyes as he concentrated on the book in his hands.
He was hunched over with his eyes skimming over the words slowly like he was taking his precious time to drink in the words of the book.
I finally decided to make my presence known by clearing my throat softly so as not to startle him.
"What are you reading?" I asked curiously as I padded over to where he sat trying to get a glimpse of the book. He handed me the book while relaxing from his previous sitting position.
After inspecting the book, I opened it but before I for lost on the book and totally forget my reason for coming here in the first place, I spoke.
"I called my father and have him the address of the cabin. He should be here within the next one hour" I paused "thank you Ramon for rescuing me" I finally looked up from fumbling with the hem of the Cardigan I wore, to meet his grey ones looking at me but I didn't look away.
"Thank Lily, she was the one who smelled something fishy and decided to investigate" he replied as his eyes held a glint which told me that he was really close to Lily and they had a lovely relationship.
Before I could respond, a timid knock was heard and I knew exactly who it was. Ramon excused himself to go see who was at the door.
"Kamara?" I heard a voice which I've missed so very much. I turned just in time to see dad before I was taken into a bone crushing hug. I squeezed him back with equal force, if not tighter.
"Oh dad, I've missed you guys so much" I said feeling the years of my initial frustration and pent up sadness pouring down in wants down my face and I didn't make an attempt at appoint away the tears.
"Oh bun, we were so worried" he began saying after I had calmed down and my crying had decreased to just sniffles and hiccups.
"Your mother stopped sleeping since we couldn't find you in your room that morning ..." I stopped listening as he went on and on about all the pains I had put everyone through with my sudden and unpredicted disappearance.
I must have cried for longer than I thought because when I finally stopped crying, dad had already thanked Ramon and we were outside his cabin door.
"Thank you once again, Ramon" dad addressed a happy looking Ramon.
I quickly hugged him tight putting my hands around his middle, I felt his hand arms come around me as he hugged me back but with less force afraid he would hurt me.
"Thanky-"
My thanks was drowned in Lily's frantic barking. No doubt wondering where the new guest was going already.
I crouched and opened my arms which she didn't hesitate to run into, giving me wet doggy kisses making me giggle. I had grown fond of her over my short stay here.
After more words of thanks and Lily's heartbreaking whining, I made my way to my dad's small beetle and took the back seat.
"Bun, your mother is going to be ecstatic when she finally sees you" dad said "you've grown into a mature young Lady over these four months".
Hmm. So that's how long I've been in the forest?. Longer than I thought.
My mind started wondering to what everyone would feel when they saw me.
Mom, Gyasi, though I'm sure he would have gone back to college, Ama and Nilo, my new friends- Crystal and Chloe, Mark, Chris?, Chris. He would probably have a new girlfriend by now.
Four months. I never had the nerve to tell him about my growing feelings at that time but now I wouldn't even have a chance.
" we're here Chi" dad announced pulling me out of my deep thoughts.
"Oh" was all I could muster as I realized we were back at the same house which I had fled from in my stupid quest to explore the forest.
I slowly opened the door and stepped outside while feeling pavement on my bare feet because I had lost my shoes when I fell into that river where I almost died.
"Chi" one word uttered by mom before she pulled me into a power hug while squeezing me tightly. I hugged her back with more force as the tears which I was sure I had ran out of started pouring down my face.
"Mom" was all I could say.
"Shh hun. You're home now and I am so happy you're not hurt" she said after releasing me while placing her warm palm on my face and wiping my years softly
"Don't scare me like that again" she said in a serious tone but the humor in her eyes let me know she was very happy.
After that I went through a series of hugs and kisses from my siblings.
I went up to my room and sat on my bed. I missed this room even though it's not really our real home, I still loved it.
We were to go back home the day after tomorrow and I started thinking about the changes that might have happened in my absence.
I mentally face palmed myself when I thought of the amount of homework I would do.
I wonder if Crystal and Chloe had broken up with the sad excuse of boyfriends they were with. I know it makes me sound like I envied their relationships and all but I remembered when I had told them that those guys were up to no good. It had not gone down well with them. They clearly liked them a lot. Guess I'll have to wait and see.
I stepped into the shower and let the warm water wash away all the dirt of four months away from my body and applied my favorite coconut essence shampoo into my hair then washed it away.
After drying myself with a towel, I stepped into my room and picked out my lavender colored nightdress.
After slipping it on, I made my way to my bed. My head hadn't even touched my soft fluffy pillow before I was out like a light.
